Dyna Blade proceeded to preen her fledglings as the festival continued on. Vesa and Fecto Elfilis kept Kirby, Elfilin, Fumu and Bun in close proximity as they ventured towards a stage where they noticed competitors were listening in on the host speaking some kind of poem before they'd swipe at some cards on the floor. Vesa noticed as Bandee was among the competitors participating in the game. Fumu's eyes flickered as she watched the game with keen interest. Elfilis looked away, not seeming interested in a game that was unfamiliar to them.
Fumu approached the booth to request to participate in the game while Bun glanced over at another nearby game stand. Elfilin perked up his ears as some cappies shuffled out of the way, allowing King Dedede to stroll down the street with Escargon following close behind. Kirby blinked twice and turned around.
"Poyo?"
Kirby took a couple steps ahead when the penguin king shifted his gaze towards the pink puff.
"Heya, Kirby," Dedede greeted, "how're you enjoying the festival?"
As Dedede continued to walk, Kirby sprinted towards the king. Elfilin made a brief glance at his larger fragment before he flew after the pink puff to catch up.
"Poyo!" Kirby chirped.
When Elfilin caught up with Kirby, they simply strolled next to Dedede even when Escargon gave the small chinchilla a puzzled look.
"You could say we're having lots of fun," Elfilin smiled.
"It's swell to hear that," Dedede replied, "right now, we're on our way to enjoy some more of the festivities ourselves."
Elfilin swayed his tail side to side.
"That reminds me," Elfilin mentioned, happily fluttering his arms, "you should've seen Kirby at the 100 Yard Hop race!"
Escargon raised his eyebrows.
"What'd he do?" he snarked, "eat the obstacles?"
"Not really," Elfilin shrugged, "he sure is a great jumper."
With Dedede and Escargon seemed to be deep in thought, Kirby and Elfilin didn't pay attention to a pamphlet falling out of the king's robes and fluttering off in the wind before ending up on a nearby rooftop. Meta Knight, watching the festival from above, noticed the pamphlet and rushed over to the rooftop. His eyes narrowed when he saw a familiar logo.
"Nightmare," he muttered, "someone in Popstar must be dealing with him."
Meta Knight didn't hesitate to crumble up the paper and with a soft burst of magic, he disintegrated it to dust. The masked warrior wandered off, determined to find the suspiciously crazy jester.
After a couple hours passed, Dedede, Escargon, Kirby and Elfilin reached an opening in the village where they could see Dyna Blade clearly. Elfilin made a brief glance at the Ferris wheel before returning his gaze to the pink puffball.
"Whoa!" Elfilin chirped, "is that a Ferris wheel?"
Kirby tilted his head, or rather his lack of head, to the side.
"Can we go on the Ferris wheel, please?" Elfilin begged, clasping his paws together.
Kirby took a moment to think before he nodded.
"Poyo!"
"Alright," Dedede nodded along, "that don't sound like a bad idea at all."
Escargon gave Dedede a nervous glance.
"But sire…"
"Don't worry about it," Dedede reassured, giving the snail a playful smack on the shell, "it'll be all fine."
Elfilin happily fluttered his arms.
"Thanks, Dedede!" Elfilin chirped, "you're the best!"
Elfilin and Kirby sped towards the Ferris wheel and waited until they hopped onboard. Dedede and Escargon followed close behind as they climbed into a pod, the machine slowly lifting them into the air.
"Sire, we need to summon that Kracko you bought," Escargon hissed with an irritated tone in his voice, "why are we wasting time up here?"
"That's what we're here for," Dedede snarked, pulling out a jar filled with a dark fog and small bolts of lightning, "we'll let him loose once we get him to the top. We should be far enough from the festival, after all."
Still, Dedede frowned a little. When they reached the top of the wheel, Dedede opened the jar and the clouds inside vanished.
All the while, Elfilis watched as Vesa participated in a game where she had to tilt a box in order to navigate a metal ball through a maze. Nearby, Fumu watched over Bun as he participated in another game. She tilted her head upwards, gazing at the clouds in the sky. She shuddered as the sky turned dark without warning.
"Something's not right," Elfilis muttered to themself, "clouds don't suddenly appear like that."
Vesa paused and shifted her gaze towards Elfilis.
"What do you mean?" she asked.
Elfilis gazed into her eyes. Their feelers twitched in alarm as the clouds started to flash with lightning.
"The sky doesn't just gain clouds suddenly, or get so dark so quickly without outside interference," Elfilis clarified, "we should start getting people out of here just in case."
Vesa checked her progress on her game and set down the box.
"Fumu?" she called, "could you get Bun over here?"
Fumu blinked and turned her head towards Vesa.
"Uhm, sure," she nodded, "is everything ok?"
Fumu checked the sky again, confirming her answer. She didn't hesitate as she sped off to retrieve her brother. Vesa noticed as the cappies shuddered with fear.
"Is there shelter nearby?" Vesa asked.
Elfilis stiffened when they felt tiny raindrops begin pelting their head. At the same time, Bandee gestured to the Cappy hosting the card game to take shelter before he sprinted towards the angelic lancer.
"If there isn't," Elfilis replied, "I can make shelter, but considering what I have in mind, I don't know if we have enough time."
Elfilis locked eyes onto Bandee.
"No need," Bandee proclaimed, "I know of the places we can take shelter!"
"How far is it? I'll escort you all there before I go aid Kirby."
An immediate gush of wind caused Vesa to cover her face with one arm.
"This way," Bandee gestured, "we have some underground bunkers!"
Upon cue, Vesa and Elfilis went on to help Bandee guide any terrified Cappies out of harm's way.
All the while, Elfilin shivered in fear as the pod he and Kirby sat in rattled rapidly.
"Uhh, Kirby?" Elfilin stammered, "what's going on? I'm scared!"
Elfilin hugged himself closer to the pink star warrior. Kirby glared up at the dark angry cloud. He recognized Kracko, but something seemed off. He knew the sentient cloud could be a bully sometimes, but has never been blatantly evil. Kracko simply swirled slowly in the sky, a bloodshot eye staring down at the four people riding the Ferris wheel. Escargon hugged Dedede's side as his head sweated with fear.
"H-Hold me, sire," Escargon squeaked, eyes widening at the sight of the twisted black cloud.
Dedede simply narrowed his eyes at Kracko while keeping a protective hand on his advisor's shell. Without warning, the sentient dark cloud shot a thunderbolt at the Ferris wheel. Kirby's eyes widened in horror at the sheer immense power of the thunderbolt. He quickly grabbed Elfilin and jumped off the side of the Ferris wheel before the bolt struck where he was standing, shocking the whole contraption.
Dedede grabbed Escargon and smashed through the side door of the pod, pulling the snail onto his back in mid air and inflating himself. He let his body make its slow descent to the ground.
"Oh dear lord, oh gosh! Momma, I'm sorry I didn't listen! Oh, why did I come here," the cowardly snail babbled to himself.
The wheel let out an ominous creaking noise before the bolts holding it in place snapped and flew off. The large machine fell to the ground and rolled away, eventually picking up speed and disappearing from sight.
The loud noise from the Ferris wheel roused Dyna Blade's attention as she sheltered her chicks from the rain. She narrowed her eyes at the Kracko hovering in the sky.
Kirby held onto Elfilin as he dived towards the ground, inflating at the last moment. He scurried into a nearby home and set down the small chinchilla. Surveying his surroundings for a brief moment, the pink puffball inhaled a nearby kitchen knife, a green cap appearing on his head and a sword in his hand. Frightened by the loud thunder, Elfilin slinked underneath a table.
"Kirby," Elfilin bleated, "please be careful."
Kirby made a brief glance at the small chinchilla and nodded.
"Poyo!"
Kirby dashed out of the house and sprinted out into the field. Kracko didn't wait long enough to start taking shots at Kirby, bolts of lightning slamming into the ground around him. He was at least thankful the rain would extinguish any fires from the electricity's searing heat. Still, the pink puffball leapt and dodged electric bolts which came his way.
Kirby slashed the air, creating sword beams and launching them at the Kracko since he hasn't taken any damage yet. It would be a while before he gained enough experience with the sword to work past this handicap of his.
Kirby soon noticed as Kracko shot two vertical bolts of lightning. The bolts slammed into the ground around him, with one barely managing to hit his blade. He quickly realized he might need to switch copy abilities. The pink puffball quickly jumped to avoid another thunderbolt. He checked the festival stands from a distance for any objects which might grant him a new copy ability. His eyes locked onto Dyna Blade's while he had a worried expression for her chicks. The pink puff gestured with his arms. Dyna Blade lifted one of her wings, a feather firing out like a throwing knife before it embedded itself into the ground. He shed his copy ability and coughed out the kitchen knife. He inhaled the feather, turning into Wing Kirby.
Kracko unleashed a large double beam attack in a circular motion. Kirby leapt up and flew after it, dodging the beam flails. He unleashed a barrage of feathers which seemingly never ended. He flew around and took shots at Kracko's vulnerable eyeball, making it wince and crackle in anger. The sentient cloud expanded its body. Kirby thought fast and flew out of the way.
Multiple bolts of lightning fired down from the sky almost constantly. Kracko seemed to have sacrificed aim for sheer numbers as one bolt struck Kirby, knocking him out of the sky. The pink puff managed to recover just before he made impact on the ground.
Kirby took only a few seconds to breathe just as the barrage of lightning bolts died down. He noticed as Kracko appeared a little worse for wear, its cloud density lower than it was a while ago. Even as a fair amount of pain lingered, Kirby was still emboldened. Watching as the sentient cloud dove down and began charging at him, the pink puffball leapt up. With the flick of an arm, Kirby shot a row of feathers.
The cloud winced as the feathery projectiles struck it, its eyes closing in pain. The majority of Kracko remained in the sky, but its main body crashed into Kirby. The pink puffball skidded along the ground before coming to a halt. It didn't take long for him to confirm Kracko detached from the clouds in the sky completely. Kirby charged at the cloud while spinning. He did a backflip and slammed down onto its eyeball.
The cloud crackled with anger and pain, its body slowly fading away into water droplets and evaporating after several moments. Kracko would reform elsewhere eventually, but it's no longer an issue. Kirby touched down on the ground, determination flickering in his eyes. Likewise, the rain came to a stop and the clouds began to disperse.
Elfilis was the first to emerge from the bunker, flying all over Capupu Village to survey for any possible casualties. They fixated their eyes on Kirby just as he shed his copy ability. The pink puffball tilted his gaze upwards and waved his arm at the tall angelic rodent.
"Poyo!"
"Is everything taken care of here?" Elfilis called over.
Kirby nodded. Elfilis propped up a teetering stand with their psionics, moving a large branch from a nearby tree to prop it up. When Vesa and Bandee emerged from the bunker, Elfilin emerged from the house and floated down the streets in search for Kirby. When the small chinchilla reached the edge of the village, Kirby turned around and scurried towards his friend.
"Kirby, you're ok!" Elfilin chirped, tears of joy flowing from his eyes, "that was so scary…"
Kirby spread his arms open, allowing Elfilin to hover closer and nuzzle his face. Elfilis made a brief glance at the two and nodded slightly before they proceeded to begin rudimentary repairs of the area, reinforcing collapsing structures and keeping them from falling apart. Thankfully, most of the village was intact. All the while, Bandee and Vesa gestured the hiding cappies to emerge from the bunkers. Elfilis noticed the Ferris Wheel was missing, but brushed off the thought for later. The cappies soon returned to the town and the festival resumed for a while.
Before long, the festival was nearing its end, so everyone gathered at the edge of Capupu Village. Dyna Blade just finished preening her youngest chick's feathers. Elfilis sat down on a sturdy branch of a large tree, staring down at the rest of the festival and keeping an eye out for further threats. Vesa carried Elfilin in her arms while Kirby, Fumu, Bun and Zan Partizanne stood next to her.
"Dyna Blade," Fumu commented, "she looks amazing."
"She's totally pretty," Elfilin added.
Bun crossed his arms behind his head.
"What's so great about this huge bird, anyway?" he sighed.
"I enjoy bird watching so this is an interesting and exciting festival for me," Zan replied, "birds are such interesting creatures, they don't require any magic to fly. I find it fascinating that they operate purely on physics rather than magical assistance. However, I do think that Dyna Blade may be too heavy to fly, so there might be some magic at work in her case."
Fumu made a glance at Zan with awe in her eyes.
"If I'm correct," Zan continued, "I think large portions of Dyna Blade's feathers are made of metal. I can feel their conductivity.
"That's pretty cool," Vesa smiled softly.
A couple minutes passed before Dyna Blade tilted her head towards the sky and spread her wings. They all watched as the majestic bird flew off into the sky with her chicks, briefly blocking the sight of Zan and the others as they flew overhead. Excited murmurs swept across the crowd as a soft breeze blew through the village. With that, the festival drew to a close, so the cappies who were hosting the booths began to pack up. Vesa brushed a few stray hairs out of her eyes.
"Elfilin," Vesa asked, "are you ready to head home?"
"I think so," the small chinchilla nodded, still a little shaken up from earlier, "I had a good time despite everything that happened."
Kirby happily jumped up and down.
"Poyo!"
Zan Partizanne made a brief glance at the castle in the distance.
"That reminds me," Zan proclaimed, "I should take the cabinet minister's children home."
Vesa smiled and waved her hand.
"Ok then," she chirped, "I'll see you later!"
Zan gave Vesa a bow of respect before she gestured Fumu and Bun to follow her.
