Vesa, Fecto Elfilis, Kirby and Elfilin left the guest bedroom the next morning. Vesa stood closer to her partner while Elfilin and Kirby led the way. Keeping an eye on the pink puffball, Elfilis rubbed their eyes a little, having gotten used to sleeping at night for quite a while. Meandering across the station, they stepped through the teleporters to get closer to their destination over a great distance. Using their spatial power, Elfilis aided the teleporters so they used less energy.

Soon enough, they stopped at the large sliding door leading to a medical lab. They didn't hesitate to set foot inside. Susie sat at a desk with another creature of her species in a lab coat.

"Uh," Vesa greeted nervously, "m-morning, Miss Susie."

"Good morning," Susie replied, tapping away on a tablet, "or for what counts as morning this far out in space."

Kirby and Elfilin exchanged glances. Nodding at the small chinchilla, the pink puffball approached the desk.

"Hi!" Kirby waved his arm.

"Hello, Kirby," Susie replied, "it's good to see you again. I hope you all slept well."

Susie turned her gaze towards the doctor.

"It's nice to meet you all," the doctor greeted while giving a respectful bow, "I'm Doctor Blameworthy, and I'll be administering the tests today."

Upon hearing the name, Elfilis narrowed their eyes in suspicion. Vesa blinked twice and tilted her gaze up to meet with their eyes.

"Elfilis?" Vesa paused.

"Yes?" Elfilis returned their gaze, staring into her eyes.

"You…seem tense," Vesa commented.

"I-It's nothing," Elfilis blurted, "just me being a bit ridiculous is all."

Elfilis locked eyes onto the doctor while Susie stood from the desk.

"Alright then," Susie beckoned, "right this way."

The door behind Susie slid open, so Elfilis, Vesa, Kirby and Elfilin followed her and the doctor into the lab. The tall angelic lancer glanced around, their fur bristling slightly at the old memory of similar labs back on the Forgotten Land. Vesa held out her hand, allowing them to grasp it. Elfilis blushed yet they gently squeezed her hand in an affectionate gesture. As they strolled towards an examination table, Elfilin floated over to a cabinet containing assorted medical instruments. Coming to a stop, Susie focused her eyes on Kirby.

"Go on," Susie beckoned to the examination table, "don't be shy."

Kirby paused for a moment before taking a few steps closer and hopping on.

"We simply need to scan your body for any dried skin or any biological material and we can test that," Dr. Blameworthy elaborated, "we'll be doing an x-ray as well. Aside from that, we might also do a few physical tests."

"Poyo," Kirby blinked twice.

Elfilin glanced behind him.

"Physical…tests?" Elfilin blurted.

"Most likely testing for flexibility and automatic reflexes," Dr. Blameworthy added, "seeing how his eyes react to bright light among other things. We'll stop once he starts to get uncomfortable, all he has to do is ask."

Vesa and Elfilis exchanged glances.

"O-Ok," Vesa replied.

Susie pulled out a datapad while Dr. Blameworthy approached the cabinet. Elfilin moved aside while the doctor opened the cabinet. He pulled out a stethoscope along with a few other basic instruments before he proceeded to record Kirby's vitals. Vesa focused intently at the procedure, reminiscing on the days when her father would frequently take her to the doctor's office for these kinds of check ups…more frequently than any other child.

"Interesting," Dr. Blameworthy mumbled to himself.

Once he finished, Dr. Blameworthy returned the medical instruments.

"So does anyone know why he seems to be almost entirely hollow inside?" he asked, "he's like a large rubber ball, but the only thing on the inside is an endless amount of joy and optimism."

Kirby and Elfilin shared confused glances.

"I-I have no idea," Vesa admitted with a shrug.

Elfilis perked up their feelers in mere interest.

"He has an internal pocket dimension that stores everything he consumes so long as it isn't a living thing," Elfilis explained, "any living creature is immediately pushed out somewhere else within a several mile radius around him. My specific affinity is how I know this, and I'm familiar with his anatomy already."

Susie paused in taking notes and focused her gaze on Elfilis.

"If you have any questions you need answered, you can ask me," Elfilis continued, "but I haven't delved into his genetics as they stopped making sense on a physical level."

"Well," Susie mused, tilting her head and placing her hand on her chin, "you seem to be pretty knowledgeable about Kirby."

Elfilis placed their palm on their chest.

"I am knowledgeable about the biology of any creature I come into contact with for even the briefest of instants," they added, "though I wouldn't dare copy Kirby's genetics considering his Copy Abilities tend to alter his body to whatever he may need; the complex magic and divinity woven into his very being make it even harder and less advisable to attempt something like that."

"Then perhaps you would be interested in assisting us in our research?" Susie asked.

"I can write up a report on his biology for you," Elfilis answered, "I wouldn't attempt to look into his DNA however as it would be incomprehensible anyway, and if you attempt to dig into it magically you might face significant backlash, or morons attempting to gain some kind of power from it, only to have it end up backfiring on themselves and everyone else."

"That would be really helpful," Dr. Blameworthy smiled, clapping his hands together, "thank you!"

Elfilis nodded in approval.

"I will have it in your office by the end of the day, is there anything else you need from me?"

"Not much else, but thank you," Susie closed her eyes with a smile, "we'll go on ahead with the physical tests."

Dr. Blameworthy nodded at Kirby, prompting him to hop off the exam table. Elfilis took a moment to create a wooden chair before sitting down. Kirby nodded at Elfilin, who waved his paw at the pink puffball. The small chinchilla floated over to Vesa, perching on her shoulder.

"Ok then," Vesa offered, "you want to study your magic a little more while we wait?"

"Sure!" Elfilin chirped.

Smiling, Vesa sat down in another chair and pulled a book from her pocket bangle. She flipped the pages to the beginning of a chapter. Tilting their gaze towards her, Elfilis perked up their feelers.

"Whatever you wish to learn," Elfilis offered, "I will help however I can. That goes for both of you."

Vesa returned her gaze and smiled.

"Thank you, Elfilis!"

"So what are you interested in learning?" Elfilis inquired.

Vesa placed a finger on her chin while Elfilin studied the text. All the while, Dr. Blameworthy instructed Kirby through essential stretching exercises.

"Well," Vesa mentioned, "I could go for practicing telekinesis. Elfilin, what about you?"

Elfilin tilted his gaze towards his larger fragment.

"How about those cool barrier spells you taught Vesa?" Elfilin suggested.

Elfilis stood up while Elfilin flew off Vesa's shoulder.

"Let's start small, then," Elfilis advised, "there are many options of barriers available to you, and you may even be able to create barriers of pure magical energy without a need for a spell just due to the sheer amount of mana you have compared to Vesa. It's not energy efficient, but it would be a strong albeit brief barrier. It isn't something I would use as I have better, albeit more complex barriers."

Elfilin took a moment to think as he scratched his head.

"I guess that sounds good," Elfilin nodded, "I'm not super experienced with this stuff still so something that can help me with blocking strong attacks would be nice."

"The downside to this aside from its cost is that it can't be used at long ranges or too far from you. It acts as more of a personal barrier rather than something you can give to others or move too far. The mana you use disperses into the atmosphere fairly quickly after you cast it," Elfilis added, "basically, this spell is just expelling mana with a lot of force, so it could even be used as an attack if you were so inclined."

Vesa set down the book and stood up before she began rummaging through her pocket bangle for objects for her next telekinesis lesson. Elfilis proceeded to demonstrate as they pushed a small gust of pure magic from their palm, concentrated enough to the point it became briefly visible as a soft blue mist. The small chinchilla watched intently as his tail swayed side to side.

"Give it a try," Elfilis instructed, "I'll give you mana if you need it."

"Ok, here goes!" Elfilin chirped.

Elfilin didn't hesitate as he began to concentrate. The small chinchilla's mana flowed to his paws as he held them out. A couple minutes later, Elfilin started generating a gust of pure magical energy. All the while, Vesa finished picking out a few empty jars and set them on the counter. She reached for a different book on telekinesis and flipped to the page relevant to what she had in mind.

"You'll need to force it out in a burst for a shield," Elfilis told their smaller fragment, "for an attack, you can push it out harder or pressurize it heavily."

"What kind of attack barriers can I make?" Elfilin clamored.

"One is good for pushing people away," Elfilis clarified, "the other is good for inflicting nasty cuts that can inflict an ailment called Mana Burn."

Elfilin tilted his head while blinking.

"Mana Burn?"

"It forces your mana into their body; while not deep enough to do any real harm, but it'll prevent them from being able to use their magic as easily. Stronger enemies wouldn't be affected as much, but against weaker enemies? It can be devastating. It might prevent them from using their inherent abilities that could otherwise be a problem. Mana Burns don't usually linger for more than a few minutes so if you inflict it on someone, use that moment to escape or fight back harder."

"Ok," Elfilin nodded, "let's see what I can do from here."

While Elfilin proceeded to pressurize the particles in his paws, Vesa looked over the schematics of the telekinesis spell described in the book. She surveyed the room until her eyes locked onto Susie.

"Excuse me," Vesa called over, "Miss Susie?"

Susie blinked and returned her gaze.

"Yes," she replied, "what is it you need?"

Vesa made a glance towards a cabinet while the doctor continued doing physical tests on Kirby, with Susie taking notes.

"Do you have liquids I can borrow?" Vesa requested.

"Well," Susie answered, gesturing to a sink in the office, "there's a sink right over there you can use."

Vesa stepped towards one of the cabinets.

"I appreciate it," Vesa added, "but water's not the only kind of liquid I'm looking for. I'll need a few more types."

Susie placed a hand on her chin.

"We have different chemicals, oils and fluids you can use," she mentioned, "go and ask one of the drones. I would prefer not using the chemicals in here since they're used for medicinal purposes."

"Ok," Vesa nodded, "will do."

Vesa stepped out of the office in search of a drone. Just then, the particles in Elfilin's paws condensed a little further.

"You're on the right track," Elfilis encouraged, "keep going."

Elfilin felt a burst of confidence as he concentrated harder. At that point, it seemed like he was firing a blast of blue smoke out of the ends of his paws. The hissing sound echoing across the room compelled Kirby to pause what he was doing and focus his eyes on Elfilin.

"You're doing good," Elfilis praised, "now stop for a moment and push it out rapidly; not as a stream, but as a burst of energy."

"Ok!"

Elfilin raised his paws up and pushed out the condensed mist in a short burst, which came off as a slight breeze to Elfilis's fur.

"You need to put more force into it," Elfilis insisted, "force it out of you harshly. It's much less likely for mana to hurt you if you push it out."

"O-Ok," Elfilin replied, "I'll try again."

While Elfilin went back to concentrating, Vesa returned with a drone following close behind carrying a few containers of assorted liquid. Elfilis would keep a watchful eye on their little fragment while they approached Vesa.

"Hey, Elfilis!" Vesa waved her hand with a smile, "I got some liquids for my lesson."

"So what is it you're looking to learn today?" Elfilis asked, "I don't believe you told me yet."

Vesa focused her eyes on the empty jars.

"I want to see if I can levitate liquids into jars," she explained.

Elfilis placed a finger on their lower jaw.

"Ah, well," they commented, "I can see several uses for learning to levitate water or other fluids, such as a Water Prison, or compressing water tightly around an enemy and lifting them into the air. It's a powerful water based attack, but it's difficult to pull off. Masters of the technique can do it without touching the water, but the closer they are in contact with it, the easier it is to pull off. Many people who use this technique need to remain in constant contact with the water to keep supplying it mana, leaving them fully stationary and open to attack. It can be useful against a single opponent or for holding onto a hostage for a couple minutes if needed."

While Dr. Blameworthy nudged Kirby to return to his physical tests, Vesa plucked a container from the drone's grip and read the label.

"Let's see," she muttered to herself.

Vesa removed the lid and held the container parallel above the floor. She waved her free hand in a circular motion until some vinegar began to emerge. Focusing her eyes on one empty jar, she molded the vinegar into a shapeless blob. Concentrating the mana in her hands, she levitated the vinegar towards the jar, watching as the contents flowed inside. By the time she finished, Vesa locked eyes onto Elfilis, who gave her a nod of approval. Her smile brimmed with confidence, so she shifted her gaze towards the drone.

Just then, Elfilin finished condensing the magical particles into a mist and pushed it out in a stronger burst. Elfilis perked up their feelers as the burst of mana knocked over the containers of chemicals, spilling them over the floor and eliciting a startled yelp out of Vesa. Elfilis thought fast and grabbed all the chemicals with their telekinesis, pulling the remaining chemicals into the air and into their pocket dimension. They took note of the contaminated chemicals on the floor and nodded to Susie before they went on to dispose of them. Vesa blinked twice before she gave Elfilin a confused look, the small chinchilla lowering his head.

"S-Sorry," Elfilin blurted.

"T-That's alright, Elfilin," Vesa tried to reassure Elfilin with a nervous laugh.

Vesa shifted her gaze towards Susie, who returned the glance from her tablet.

"Anyways," Vesa asked, "is there a place where injured people get treated?"

"Normally," Susie explained, "it's either here or in the trauma ward, but we don't typically have many injuries here. When we do, people tend to just want whatever part of them that's critically injured replaced entirely with an upgrade. It's kind of part of the culture of how our species developed over time. As we got more advanced, it just became efficient to replace things to improve yourself if the opportunity arises. This also brought people who don't need that kind of thing, and there's a whole black market for that kind of surgery now. They would market to plenty of people who feel like they need to fit in, or people who are suffering from mental issues. Sometimes they just go to shady people to get that kind of thing done, or even injure themselves to get things replaced. It's honestly a bit horrifying. This kind of thing has been something debated heavily lately as to whether or not it should be allowed for anyone who wants it or just people who need it, but people are split down the middle on the subject."

Vesa placed her hand behind her head while Elfilis ran their finger along the top of Elfilin's head.

"Well, I guess it wouldn't hurt for me to check it out anyways," Vesa proclaimed.
