Kai POV: I groaned as the pounding in my head woke me up in the worst way ever. I groaned again when my whole body started to ache painfully. Slowly, I opened my eyes and glanced around, and found myself in the med bay. Why was I there? And where was Zane and Lloyd. The last time I saw them was… oh no. They could be hurt, or worse. I need to find them.
I tried to sit up, but someone's hand stopped me and they said, "Take it easy Kai." I looked over and saw that it was Cole.
He looked tired and Nya had her head and arms on the bed, she was sound asleep. Zane was on the other side of the bed. He was also asleep, but why was I the only one on the bed?
"What's going on? Where's Lloyd? Is he okay?" I asked. I was going to ask more, but for some reason it hurt to talk and I groaned again.
"Lloyd's fine. Don't you remember what happened?" he asked, making me lay back.
"Sort of… I remember seeing the drill starting to fall and I ran to them to get them out of the way, but…" I said through the pain. And that's when I looked down.
My arm was in a sling, my other arm and leg were bandaged, and I could see some more bandages peaked out from under the blanket that covered me. That would explain why it hurt to talk. But that doesn't help me remember anything else.
"What…?" I was going to ask, but the pain spiked and I groaned painfully. Nya immediately woke up from that, as did Zane. He checked the IV next to me and Nya tried to comfort me. It just hurt and the pounding was getting worse. It really just hurt…

I didn't when I fell asleep, but the next thing that I know I was waking up again. This time only Zane was in the room and the windows were dark. He was checking the machines and didn't notice me at first. I opened my mouth to say something, But I started coughing hard, which really made everything hurt. Zane immediately helped and put an oxygen mask on my face. It took a minute, but they slowly went away and I groaned again.
"Are you alright?" Zane asked, after he was sure I was done.
"Not sure." I groaned out, and I again looked down at the damage. I was practically immobile now, which is going to be so much fun.
"Cole told me that you only remember pushing Lloyd out of the way. Is that correct?" He asked after a bit.
I nodded and said, "I just remember black after that. What exactly happened?"
"When the drill fell you were caught in the debris. In the process, you broke your shoulder, leg, and several ribs. Your wrist is fractured and a concussion, as well as a large wound on your side from a pole that nearly impaled you." He explained.
That was a lot of damage, and that means I'm going to be sidelined for a while. Great.
Zane sensed what I was thinking and said, "You helped both me and Lloyd from getting seriously injured. Now it's time to let us take care of you."
I sighed, which hurt, and said, "I know. This is just going to suck."
"It certainly won't be easy for you. That is true, but we can help make it more comfortable for you." he responded, and continued with what he was doing.
It's not that I don't believe him, but nothing is going to make this any easier for me.
But I didn't say anything and let him finish what he was doing. And when he finished the door opened. It was Lloyd. When he saw that I was awake he immediately came over.
"Glad to see you're awake." He sounded so relieved.
"Probably not for long." I said, trying to joke.
But he didn't laugh, instead he sat down and said, "Kai, you really scared us with what you did."
"I'm sorry, but I would do it again. The last thing I want to see is you in this bed." That was too long and made everything hurt.
Lloyd just sighed and mumbled, "Do you think we want to see you here?"
As much as I wanted to say something, I was in too much pain to talk. But when I took a breath and the pain flared, I groaned. They both caught this and Zane started doing something. But I didn't care, I just wanted some sort of relief. Eventually, I started to feel less pain. However, I couldn't stay awake. I just wanted to sleep…

Lloyd POV: Once the meds started to kick in Kai almost immediately passed out. I hated everything about this and he wasn't really helping. I looked over all of his injuries and flinched a little from them. He was in bad shape.
Zane noticed this and said, "You don't have to worry. He is going to recover."
"How long is that going to take?" I mumbled, looking at his slinged arm.
"It will be a process, that is true. But we have the ability to help him." he tried to reassure me. Which worked only a little.
Because knowing Kai, he's going to be extremely stubborn throughout all of this. That's what worried me the most. I don't want him to push himself, but that's going to happen no matter what.
I sighed and sat back down once his breathing evened out. There was still a bit of pain in his sleeping expression, which I really hated, and just sat there in silence. Zane didn't say anything and just rechecked everything. We were in silence for a while before he broke it.
"Everything is in working order. Now I can check on you." He walked over to me, and that made me confused.
"What do you mean?" I asked, and he raised an eyebrow.
"Lloyd, your ribs. They need to get treated." he said.
Oh right, I completely forgot. I took a painkiller earlier and waited so that they could focus on Kai. How did I forget that so fast?
"Right, that." I mumbled to myself.
But I didn't fight it and climbed onto the bed next to Kai. I rolled up my shirt so Zane could get a look. And I flinched at the sight of the giant bruise that formed. At least I wasn't wrong about them being broken.
Zane got to work and started a scan. It didn't take too long and he said, "You have two broken ribs, as well as two that are bruised. However, they shouldn't take too long to heal."
"That's good. Something's going right." I said, and he started to wrap them.
It hurt, bad, but at the same time it was getting better. I just wish that the painkiller was starting to wear off just as he started the scan. Perfect timing meds, perfect timing.
Once he finished I rolled my shirt back and he said, "I would suggest that you stay here for the night, just to be safe."
"I think I'll be fine, Zane." I tried to argue back, but he wasn't having it.
"Just to be safe. And you can keep an eye on Kai if you do." Of course he had to make a good point.
And it had to be about something that I already wanted to do. I sighed and said, "Alright, I'll stay."
He nodded and said, "Let me know if anything happens."
"Got it." And he left after that.
I laid back and looked over at Kai. The pain that I saw before wasn't there anymore. Meaning that the meds were working. That made me feel a tiny bit better, but I'm not kidding myself either. I know that this is going to be a temporary thing. And it was going to be this way for a while.
This is going to be so much fun.
