I have a confession to make: I used to be Bluestar of ThunderClan, the author of this story and others.
Yup.
I just put on a new alias, but I guess I don't really need to. Not like it's a big deal.
Anyways, this is a re-upload of my All Dogs go to Heaven story, You Can't Keep A Good Dog Down. It's a rewrite of the movie, but with an OC!
Enjoy it, guys!
Cling. Cling. Cling. Cling.
"Itchy! No, no, a few more degrees to the left!"
Cling. Cling. Cling. Cling.
"No! Your other left!"
Clang, clang, clang, clang-
"That's it! Keep coming, keep coming, you're almost through-!"
"Hi-jahhh..."
"Itchy, what is it?"
More about-to-sneeze sounds.
"Are you ok?"
And more.
"Well, don't stop now!"
"Hija-neeeeeee-! AHH! AHHHH-"
Spitting sounds, followed by a grumpy, "terrific..."
"I'm sorry, boss! I got dirt in my nose!"
Even more about-to-sneeze sounds could be heard.
"Oh- are you gonna do it again...?"
A yellow light flickered, showing a brown and tan dachshund wearing a hard hat and a green sleeveless shirt who looked like he was about to... well, ya know, sneeze.
"Ohh... stand back... I-... eee... feel another... eee-eee-juh- AHHHH-!"
The force of the sneeze made him fall forward, hitting his head on the metal pipe. He looked around for a second.
"Itchy! You're a genius!"
Well, now he had a name. "Thanks, boss!" Itchy rasped, sitting up a little.
The light went out again.
"I'm glad to see ya! Where are ya?"
CLANG.
"OW! Agh! What was'sat?!"
"I-jah... ooh! It's a pipe!"
The light finally flickered back on. "Here I am, Charlie! You ok?" Itchy calls.
An unseen dog, who now also had a name, shushed him.
"Are you ok?" Itchy whispered.
"Yeah, I'm ok," Charlie whispered back.
The light went out again. "Where are you?" Itchy asked kind of randomly, and what did he do to be able to see Charlie?
He turned on his weird little flamethrower, of course!
Fire flashed into Charlie's face.
Charlie appeared to be a German shepherd. He freaked out, shrinking back and putting his paws in front of his face. "Aghhh! No! No! Put that thing out! What're you, tryin' to kill me?!"
As the flames were extinguished by Itchy, his hard hat's light came on again. "I'm so sorry, boss, but the pipe! Here! Lemme try this!" Itchy flopped onto his back and aimed his drill at the pipe, his light blinking again.
Charlie tried to hide behind the pipe in question. "Careful, Itchy! Yeah... you don't think that might be a water main...?"
Itchy shook his head. "Nah, Charlie, water mains are green. This is red!"
Charlie smirked for a second. "You're colorblind! You've always been colorblind!"
"That's true, but this is green!" Itchy replied, almost hitting the metal surface with his drill.
"It's red!" Charlie protested, nervously looking at Itchy.
"Red?"
Then the dachshund turned it on, and it rattled not only him and his hat, but of course it rocked and shook the pipe.
Charlie covered his head with his arms and ducked with gritted teeth.
On the surface, above the two dog's heads in the sewers, the drain exploded and water came spraying out.
Alarms around the New Orleans City Pound began to echo.
"IT'S A BUSTED WATER MAAAAIN!" a guard yells.
"HIT THE LIGHTS!"
"CALL COMMAND CENTRAL!"
Charlie and Itchy both looked down the pitch black tunnel, but Itchy's light showed a ton of water coming right at them.
Charlie, being slightly braver than his pal, gasped and quickly retreated.
"Who-o-o-o! LOOK OUT!" Itchy screamed, following Charlie out a lot faster than the latter had left.
The spotlights on the pound's property began to sweep through the whole area as the water continued to spout high, high into the air.
"SHINE THE LIGHT OVER THERE!"
"No, over there!"
Charlie finally broke through the mud on the surface, stuck around his middle in the drain. Itchy popped out from under Charlie's chin.
"Ahhh! Itchy!" Charlie yelped, hugging his arms around Itchy in desperation as he too struggled to get out.
"Oh, woah!" Itchy yelled. "Woah-ho-ho-ho-"
A gunshot fired. "D'oh!" Charlie cried, throwing his arms over his head. Itchy scrambled out, and Charlie leapt out after him, the water raining down soaking them both.
"C'mon, let's get outta here!"
The two dogs dove under an old pound truck for shelter. Itchy slid in the mud until he was right next to Charlie.
"I'm sorry, Charlie! I think-"
"DON'T THINK! From now on, I'll think!" Charlie interrupted, crouching slightly and preparing to jump out.
Itchy looked scared and apologetic. "Ok! You think and I'll- WOAH!"
Another gunshot fired, and Itchy was flung backward. "My stuff!" he yelled, diving onto his drill that he used to bust Charlie out.
Exasperated, Charlie grabbed Itchy's tail. "Oh, forget the stuff! I'll buy ya more stuff!" he snarled, pulling his rear up to get him to let go.
"Wait a minute, my drill!" Itchy yelped.
Itchy's drill was instantly destroyed by another bullet, and Charlie pulled him back just in time for it to miss Itchy's head.
"Oh, come on!"
Itchy jumped up and wrapped himself around Charlie's belly as the taller dog whipped around and began to run.
Charlie ignored the mud splattering his belly and paws, but Itchy quickly lost his grip on Charlie's body, falling and sitting up immediately to scratch his ears.
Charlie whipped around again, angry and still desperate.
He really didn't wanna get shot, to state the obvious.
"Not now! Not now!" he scolded, diving for his friend; he landed on his back and slid in the mud for a second, Itchy kicking his legs in terror as Charlie lifted him into the air.
"Don't! Not now!"
He tossed Itchy onto his back feet, holding him with his front paws, and kicked out hard, sending Itchy flying through the air.
Itchy landed in the mud and slid in it until he crashed head first into the chain-link fence. "Oof-!"
He fell into the small crevice he'd dig out previously as Charlie reached him. "I can't help it, Charlie! I itch when I'm nervous!"
Charlie snapped his head up towards him. "Well, don't be nervous!" he growled.
"Let me just scratch this!"
He tried to itch himself again, but ducked down as another shot fired above his head, and Charlie swung his head down for a moment. Itchy's eyes were full of fear, and he leapt down under the wooden floorboards on the other side as quick as a flash.
"Oh, it's not worth it, bein' with you!" Charlie yelled, crawling in as well.
It was total chaos. The guards were freaking out because a dog was escaping, and Itchy was just as panicked.
Charlie? He was just desperate.
"Hold this…"
"Ahhh! Oh, woah! Just a minute!" Itchy cried.
Charlie struggled out of the hole at the front gate with a yell.
"Are you ok?!" Itchy called.
"COME ON!" Charlie shouted, running away; Itchy barely missed a bullet fired at him, and it left a huge dent where he'd just been a millisecond before.
They ran down the dirt driveway and ducked behind the small hill, all while gunshots fired just behind them.
"You're such a grouch!" Itchy whispered, panting hard.
Charlie wheezed. "I think-... I think we've got somewhere to be, Itch."
Chapter one, done!
