Telepath Wolf

(Season 2)

Healer

Keep in mind that I do not own Babylon 5 or its characters, so if you recognize any of them, THEY'RE NOT MINE. They are property of WB and Straczynski. (Put in other words: sadly I am not making money out of writing this, I'm only doing it for the pleasure of sharing a piece of my mind with you all)

Please remember that this story is a FEMLASH portraying Susan's and Talia's relationship, if this bothers you, you shouldn't be here, so leave now if you're not comfortable with this fact.

Also remember that Susan is a werewolf, kinda like the ones portrayed in the Underworld movies. You know, strong, virtually immortal, and able to control when they shift.

Once again I altered the timeline to suite my needs for things to flow between them. I however, did not alter the B5 General plot line, so the major events that happened during the series, are still there, some of them with a little twist, but most of them stayed just the same.

Telepath Wolf

(Season 2)

Chapter 40 (66)

Healer

My breakfasts at Zocalo came to an end when I realized that Talia was spending more and more time with the telepath sent by Bester to B5. I could not stand seeing her being so openly friendly with someone that was there clearly to spy on us on behalf of Psi Corps. So whenever I needed nourishment because otherwise I knew I would pass out, I tended to eat whatever was available at the crew mess, Stephen tended to join me now and then.

"You look like shit" he told me one morning

"You don't look so good yourself either" I rebutted noticing for the first time that he had not only lost weight but that he smelt different, sick. "You doing ok?" I asked him then concerned and made a mental note to check up on Dimitri to see what was going on.

"Just tired" he sighed "The Narn and Centauri daily conflicts on top of every other medical emergency on the station, is just… overwhelmingly tiring"

"I know" I agreed "Let me know if you need extra hands" I told him as I rose and headed to CnC

"Commander. I was about to call for you" said Lt. Corwin as I entered the Dome "A ship came in through the jumpgate a few minutes ago… but now it's just sitting there"

"Definite carbon scoring on the hull. She's been hit by something" That was odd, and it looked if not drifting, definitely close to. "Unidetified ship, this is Babylon Control. Please Respond. Anything?" I asked Corwin dreading what could be inside that ship

"Negative" he said looking at me "Registering one life form though"

"Alright, let's bring her in, see what's inside. Better have a med team ready" So I set to do every possible scan to determine what was the ship's status and how much of a threat it could pose to the station.

I informed Stephen, Michael and John about the situation and that Stephen's team should head immediately to the Bay where we docked the recovered ship. Stephen and his team were first to arrive. While Michael and I tried to trace the ship's ID with its serial number. No luck with that so Michael ended up heading to the Bay himself.

Eventually we confirmed that there was an injured unconscious female passenger on board that ship, and Michael identified her as Lyta Alexander, the commercial telepath assigned to B5 before Talia.

"Who?" asked John when Micheal debriefed us

"Lyta Alexander" answered Michael "She was the first Commercial Telepath assigned to Babylon 5. She arrived January 3, 2257. She left about 6 weeks later."

"Didn't last long" I mused

"Was there a problem?" asked John

"Yeah, I suppose you could say that" said Michael "She arrived here a few weeks before Ambassador Kosh came aboard from the Vorlon Empire. Only somebody tried to kill him as soon as he stepped off his ship" he started his explanation and as he recounted it to us, I could clearly see it, as if all of that was happening at that moment right in front of me. That was how strong Michael felt about it, and also how much my abilities had evolved. "Lyta agreed to scan him to try and save his life. She couldn't see what was inside his encounter suit but she did manage to get into Kosh's mind. The only human who's ever done it and survived"

"What did she see?" I asked curious since the image he was projecting stopped abruptly. And I doubt that if I asked Kosh about it on our next meeting, he would be forthcoming about it.

"She thought she saw Commander Sinclair trying to kill Kosh" said Michael somberly "Turns out it was somebody using a changeling net to impersonate him. Still the accusation almost ruined his career"

"And you haven't heard anything from her since?" asked John after nodding in understanding

"She and the Doctor who operated on Kosh were recalled to Earth a few weeks later" said Garibaldi "After the scan, she was never quite the same. It's hard to explain but from that day on she was never quite right anymore"

"Right?" I asked him for clarification

"She spaced out and retreated to herself. She stopped taking jobs. Some said she had lost it" he said simply walking away

"What do you think?" asked me John

"I don't know" I told him truthfully. "If she was recalled by Psi Corps, then maybe she is here on their behalf. Then again, she could be a danger to Psi Corps and that may be the reason her ship was damaged. So maybe she's running away"

"I guess we will have to wait for her to wake up and question her" added John sighing

A few hours later, Stephen called us to let us know that Lyta had woken up, and was aggressively demanding to see all the Command Staff together and that she refused to be alone with any of us, or anyone else for that matter, because there was a traitor on board and she had proof.

"What I'm about to tell you cost two good men their lives, and nearly cost mine. But this place is important to a lot of people. More important than you could possibly know." she started explaining as soon as we gathered at John's office "So I had to come back to warn you."

"Warn us about what?" asked John, clearly assessing Lyta's credibility after Michael's earlier input

"I imagine Mr. Garibaldi has already filled you in about me" she said deflecting the question

"Yeah, that you were stationed here for a while a few years ago" I answered as I tried to assess her myself with my wolf. "That you scanned Ambassador Kosh and no one's heard from you since you left"

"They wanted to know what I saw in Kosh's mind" she said "There wasn't anything more than what I reported but they didn't want to believe me."

"They?" asked Stephen

"Psi Corps" I answered for her

She nodded before continuing "There was just the memory of his attack and a feeling"

"What kind of feeling?" asked John

"It's not something that I can put into words" she said clearly trying to recall that feeling "I've tried to for all this years and I still can't do it. But they wouldn't accept that" she sighed "Finally, six months ago, I escaped Psi Corps on a shuttle bound for Mars. Since that time I've been trying to get into Vorlon space." She confessed

"Vorlons don't allow anyone inside their borders" stated Michael "Those who try, don't come back"

"I know" answered Lyta turning to take a moment to gather her thoughts "But ever since I touched Ambassador Kosh I've been drawn there. Sooner or later I'm gonna make it, and they'll let me in" she said confidently before turning to face us again "While on Mars, I got involved with a revolutionary movement. I had to pay my way, and someone's always willing to hire a good telepath. Seven days ago, one of our best people was murdered on his way back from an intelligence gathering operation"

"In Syria Planum?" I asked to confirm my suspicions. She nodded and I could see Michael reach to the same conclusion I had.

"Psi Corps has a research center there" he said a little concerned

"Our agent found out about a secret Psi Corps program. A sleeper program." Said Lyta pacing through the room. "They bring someone in and work them over with drugs and deep scans to create a new personality. A personality suited to their needs" As she talked, John and I exchanged looks, knowing that fitted Talia perfectly. Even when now both personalities were merged, at some point one had been dormant. "This personality is then submerged so far into the subconscious that it won't show up, even on a deep scan. But it's always there. Watching, listening, spying. Until the day the password is sent, telepathically, it can't just be spoken, it has to be sent directly into the brain. At that moment, the real personality is destroyed and the implanted one takes control. Permanently" I let out a relieved sigh knowing then that the agent Lyta was talking about could not be Talia, seeing as her personality had not been destroyed.

"So until then, someone could be a spy and not even know it" said Stephen pondering about it

"Correct. They've apparently used this technique to plant moles in several government agencies, including Babylon 5. We don't know who's been implanted with a new personality, but someone here is not what he or she appears" she added pointedly looking at each of us. "Our guess is that it's someone on the Command staff, or close to it since the mole would be looking for vital information. All we have is a code name. Control"

"I'm sorry. This is nuts. Do you expect us to believe you?" I said starting to walk away, eager to check on my mate and ask her what she thought about this. Know if there was even the smallest of possibilities that Tee had been this Control. "I mean how do we know you're not just making all of this up?"

"Because I have the password" she said vehemently "Captain I realize you don't know me and you've got no reason to trust me. But I can prove what I've said. With your permission, I can send a telepathic prove into the minds of your staff, one at a time." Making me scoff "I won't scan, I won't read. Won't do anything to invade your privacy" She defended herself "I will just send the password, and see what happens"

"My people will object, properly to having their loyalty questioned" started John before I could say anything myself

"It's not a question of loyalty!" she argued "Whoever it is, doesn't know they've been programmed. They won't know I'm sending it to them, so you won't have to tell them" she offered "Just get me on a line of sight. I'll take care of the rest"

I looked pointedly at John, hoping to convey not only how against this offer I was, but that we needed to talk it out.

"We'll discuss it and get back to you later" he conceded

"Don't take too long captain." She said sighing "The implanted personality is conditioned for self-preservation. It will react to anything it perceives as a threat, and right now, that is me. So until this is over, with all due respect, I don't want to be alone with any of you. And you may want to keep any eye on each other while you're at it"

"Thanks for the thought" said Michael sarcastically "Now if you don't mind, I'll have a security guard… no, two security guards take you to a holding cell until we decide what to do about his" I tried not to show surprise at that. Sending her to a holding cell was not something I thought Garibaldi would do seeing as he knew her. "Guards"

"Yes sir" came two of Garibaldi's team, clearly already standing by outside John's office

"Take her to holding" he ordered

"Yes sir"

"Comments, anyone?" asked John from his seat

"Does the phrase 'No way in hell' ring a bell?" I asked him talking both about being scanned and believing she could be right

After a brief discussion in which we agreed to wait until morning to decide what to actually do, John asked me to stay back for a bit.

"Do you think Ms Winters…?" he asked hesitantly

"Couldn't be" I said firmly shaking my head "Kosh merged them." I added firmly "Talia is not gone. The other personality did not take control. So it can't be her" I said whimpering

"Are you two in talking terms again?" he asked me

"Not really. But I will approach her on this if I have to. This is definitely about more than just our relationship" I told John hoping he would agree but would not push

"You think she'd accept to receive the probe? Just to get this done and over. Clear all suspicions from her?"

"I honestly don't know" I said sighing. "We could ask Kosh to come over" I said as an after thought. "Ask him if he thinks what Lyta is saying is true. Or just directly ask him if Tee was this Control Lyta preaches about"

"Even if he knows, I do not think he will be too forthcoming. Ask Ms Winters what she thinks. We'll decide how to proceed after you talk to her" he said tiredly "What about the telepath sent by Mr Bester to take Talia's place?"

"It pains me to say this, but I think Bester is smart enough to know that we wouldn't trust just anyone, specially a telepath, so I don't believe Jean Christophe is the mole" I said sighing.

"Well, if anything, we could still ask Ms Alexander what she thinks" mused John

After I left, Mr Garibaldi came back to talk to John and they had a small argument on the fact that Lyta may be right. I know John believed her, and that was part of the reason he wanted me to talk to Talia about this, however John tried to convince Garibaldi that it might be bogus, or that Lyta herself was the mole trying to cause a rift on the station command with that 'false' information. Apparently Garibaldi was adamant that Ms Alexander was right, and that feeding false information was not her style.

Eventually, Stephen told the Captain that his contacts with the underground telepath railroad had confirmed they helped Lyta get off Earth, and that she was indeed part of a resistance cell on Mars. I eventually confirmed with Tess, and she told me that her group that was now not only formed by wolves, but by regular humans, some mimbari, and the mysterious rangers, had helped in the recovering of the information Ms Alexander brought. Tess had no idea what the information entailed, only that it was a danger for Babylon 5 and some other groups. Which in the end made me grumpily agree with John that we needed to make sure Talia was not the mole Ms Alexander talked about.

I am embarrassed to say, but it took me several minutes to gather my thoughts and the courage to chime on my own door once I was standing in front of it. I needed to see her, I needed to hold her, but most of all, I needed to know that she was not the one Lyta spoke off.

"What do you want now?" she asked annoyed at my sight, which broke my heart and sent my mind spiraling to believe Lyta. Maybe she was the spy and all this had been faked by Talia. And now that she held all my secrets, she no longer needed to keep me close.

"Can I come in?" I asked her after a moment

"No" she said going to close the door

"Please Talia" I asked stopping her "This is station related" I told her hoping at least that would sway her.

She looked at me, trying to determine if I was being truthful. After long moment she stepped aside granting me access to our quarters for the first time in months.

"For God's sake, sit!" she ordered when she saw me fidgeting by the couch, making me smile fondly at her.

"Thanks"

"So, what's this about then?" she asked clearly impatient.

"Talia, did you ever know a telepath named Lyta Alexander?" I bluntly asked her then, hoping that my mate was not the mole

She frowned and looked confused at me before answering "Yes. She was a year behind me in the Academy. We spent six months together in an intern program working for different parts of the Corps. Why?" she asked as she chose to sit too, facing me, but far from reach

"Well… do you think…? Is she someone you could trust?" I asked her

"Like in general? Or specifically me?" she asked still frowning.

"You. Both. You and everyone else?" I asked unsure about that too

"I guess so" she said sighing

"But you're not sure?" I asked hoping she would tell me not to trust Lyta, that she would know something that would discredit everything Ms Alexander shared earlier that day…

"Susan, it was a long time ago…" she started "She was very nice, very… sweet. We were close at one time" she added, and took everything in me not to growl at that "And I suppose, she, like everyone else, can change. But with Lyta? No, I just don't think she would change so drastically as to not trust what she says or her work"

"You said you both intern with the Corps." I started holding on to that "Which department did she intern with?" I asked when she nodded

"Psi Cops" said Talia somberly "When she found out she didn't like it, she changed departments, became a commercial teep like me" I sighed and rubbed tiredly at my face, not knowing how to face this then. "What's wrong Susan?" she asked in such a tender tone that surprised me. When I looked up and stared into her eyes, I could see worry there. I could feel her worry for me too. It was curiously overwhelming and I knew that couldn't be faked. She had to feel something for me in order to worry for me like that, regardless of her hating what I did, all our history, all we lived through until then, could not be part of a scheme to spy on the command staff, no one can fake feelings, especially when we made love and our minds reflected all back and forth. Then again, Lyta did say that the person with the implanted personality was not aware of the dormant one. I was in such conflict and turmoil over this that I failed to realize when Talia came closer to me, I only noticed when she cupped my chin and stared into my eyes, silently asking permission to peek inside seeing as I could not form words at the time. In that moment, without hesitation, I did. And she saw the conversation we had earlier with Ms Alexander and my private conversation with John.

After the mild breakdown on my part, I tried to apologize again to Talia, but she cut me off with a needy and desperate kiss. We spent the night together, but not like previous times, this time was urgent and angry, every time I tried to reach into her mind she would completely block me and slam her mind walls shot, pushing me further away, no matter how open my mind was at the time, she even refused to peek inside… and eventually, when we were both tired from the encounter, I was summoned back because of an attack to Lyta, Talia asked me to leave stating that what had just transpired changed nothing. Even when I was sad that my mate still had not forgiven me and had kicked me out again, I couldn't help but feel 'giddy' about her scent lingering on me again as I walked towards John's office.

"You finally made up" said John relieved when he caught a sniff

"Not exactly" I told him sadly "But at least we know it is not her who attacked Lyta" I told him a few seconds before Michael came in and gave a full report of what had happened.

"So we basically have no idea where she could be right now?" asked John.

"No sir" answered Michael not at all bothered by John's frustration

"Both guards died and we have no way to know who did the shooting unless we find Lyta and she let us know if she saw anything before taking off" he said

"Are we sure she wasn't hit?" I asked then

"No. We can't know for sure until we find her" said Garibaldi

"Great. This is just great" started John "I almost wanted to convince myself that she might be wrong… and then this happens"

"Captain, with all due respect this does not prove anything yet" I told him

"No?" asked Michael pushing for support "Who knew she was here? You, me, the Captain, Franklin and a few other people"

"So who pulled the trigger?" asked John

"I don't know" said Michael shrugging

"Well, neither do I" said John in turn "And that's what's bothering me"

"Well Lyta said that this artificial personality was programmed to defend itself." Started Garibaldi "If that's true, then whoever tried to kill her probably doesn't even remember"

"It could be anyone" I said agreeing with him

"Ok. So if we believe her now, then we should each make a report stating where we were tonight and any evidence we can provide on that" said Michael looking intently at me

"I was with Talia" I said annoyed that he immediately doubted me and not John.

"I thought you had broken up" he said clearly disappointed by the fact that I was still with Talia

"We are fighting, but we certainly did not break up. I was trying to sort things out with her" I said tiredly

"Ok. I want Lyta found and placed under protective custody until we get to the bottom of this" said John "One other thing. With this latest incident, I am leaning toward letting her perform the telepathic probe she suggested"

"Captain! I wouldn't submit to a scan to prove my loyalty last year! And I won't submit to one now-" I started to rant, but was interrupted by John

"This wouldn't be the same thing!" he said as heatedly as I had been seconds before "She's not gonna be scanning anyone or invading their privacy. She's just going to send the password!"

"I don't want to be-"

"Look Susan" he said interrupting me again "I know how you feel alright? But if someone on staff has been compromised, we need to know that. Our careers, our lives are on the line. Now we have to know that we can trust each other, or we are dead!"

"And we can't do that when this is hanging over our heads. It's the only way we can be sure" said Michael shrugging

"Assuming she lives long enough to try it" added John

After that, I had Zack helping the pack to track Lyta, seeing as other than me, he was the only wolf who knew her scent. A couple of hours later I called back the search because John informed us that Lyta had made contact through Ambassador Delenn and was ready to meet with us again as long as all of us were present, we were then just waiting for confirmation of time and place. So I made a decision, I figured if John already knew about the wolves, then he might as well know about this and understand why I could not let a telepath other than Talia, scan or even reach into my mind.

It took John a moment to realize I was sitting on his couch, in his quarters, waiting for him, and he only did because he caught my scent.

"I let myself in" I told him "You should change your lock code more often"

"You okay?" he asked sitting by my side

"Talia kicked me out right after… and it all just hurts so much" I told him, stalling a little longer telling him the real reason I was there

"I'm sorry" he said truthfully

"There's something I need to tell you" I told him after a couple of minutes in silence. "I can't have Lyta, or any telepath other than Talia, in my mind. Ever"

"I understand your feelings…" he started patronizingly

"No" I interrupted him this time "You don't understand" I said calmly "You can't, because I haven't told you"

"Told me what?" he asked confused "We know somehow your pack and any information related to it is safe from telepaths. You told me so"

"There's something I have never told you." I told him "Only Talia knows." And Kosh I added in my mind. "You know that my mother was a telepath and that since I was born, she could slip into my thoughts in a way that I could never even describe to you. And Talia… when she does, the way she brushes my mind, the way she slips in and fills my mind… it's just so intimate and personal"

"You don't want anyone intruding on that" he concluded

"It's not that. Or it's not only that." I said taking a deep breath. This was it. This was the moment I would test my trust. "What I didn't tell you, is that I learned how to keep my mother out when I wanted to. And then every once in a while, I was the one who touched her mind" I confessed. He squinted his eyes, trying to make sense of what I just told him. "I'm a latent telepath… well, was, a latent telepath"

"What do you mean?"

"I am no longer just latent" I said softly "After Ironheart left, my dormant abilities as a telepath started to develop. I don't know what Psi Corps would rate me now. But Talia said once I might be a P3, or P4. I've been training to control it. At first with Talia, then with Ambassador Kosh"

"Susan, why didn't you tell me this before? I thought we could trust each other" he said disappointed

"It's got nothing to do with trust" I argued, even though I knew that was a lie. "I've spent my entire life hiding this John. It's not just something you can change overnight. It's hard enough telling you this now. Not even one soul in the Pack knows. And that was the main reason I stayed as far away from Talia as I could at the beginning. I couldn't have her know when she was so loyal to Psi Corps. She would have ratted me out. You should rat me out."

"Stop it, you know I won't" he said determined, making me smile at him. "But you're right. I'm sorry"

"For as long as I can remember my mother drilled three words into me…" I said standing up and pacing the small room "Tell no one. She taught me how to fool the tests given at school, transferred me from one school to another, always staying one step ahead of Psi Corps. I wasn't even a P1 before Ironheart. But that would have been enough for the Psi Corps to come pull me in. And you have three choices, service to them, the drugs or death."

"But Lyta isn't with the Corps" said John standing too "She's on the run"

"How can you be sure of that?" I asked in turn

"Well, I can't. But Garibaldi believes her. And if Talia isn't the mole, then there is someone else the Corps experimented on"

"There are many others the Corps experimented on" I said defeated taking a seat again

"I know how hard this must have been for you to tell me this. Thank you. Now, let me think about it. I will find a solution. I'm sure we can work something out"

"Okay" I agreed trusting him completely then "It's all this nonsense lately. The Narn and the Centauri. And the Drazi with their cycle coming to an end and already preparing for their ceremonies… even their home world leaders want me to stay in the position I have... And…and Talia…"

"And Talia is still shutting you out" he said engulfing me in a hug when a choked sob escaped my lips "I know. You'll work something out too. You'll overcome this. Heck, maybe she is not even that angry at all and just wants to make it as difficult for you as it was for her when she pursued you" he said joking

"I doubt that is it." I said chuckling "But thanks anyway. It's just, some days I don't even know who I am anymore" And as I said that, I could see what John remembered. A dream or a vision of myself asking him if he knew who I was. "John?"

"I just… remembered a dream I had a couple of months ago" he confessed. He was going to explain it, but his commlink chirped "Sheridan"

"A message from Ambassador Delenn for you Captain" came the voice on the other side of the link. It was not a voice I recognized

"What's the message?" John asked

"One word. Now" And with that, we headed back to John's office to wait for Lyta to show up

She came in escorted by Ambassador Delenn "Do you wish me to stay with you?" she asked Lyta

"No. I think I'll be okay"

"Thank you for your help Delenn" said John. And immediately after a brief bow, Ambassador Delenn left without asking questions

"So… are we gonna do this?" asked Lyta

"Yes" simply said John "You'll start with me"

"Are you sure?" asked Lyta surprised

"I can't ask anyone else to do this until I've done it myself" Explained John. And boy did I hate he was right "Send the password" he commanded after looking for a moment to each of us in the room. Lyta focused and after a few seconds nothing happened. "Well, when do you start? Asked John intrigued

"I've already done it" said Lyta "You're clean" she added relieved

"Alright… doctor?" asked John hoping probably to leave me last

Stephen took a couple of steps forward approaching Lyta and waiting "Nothing, you're clean" she said after a moment "Mr Garibaldi?" she asked once Stephen walked slightly away

Garibaldi offered his PPG to John, strengthening the respect I held for the man, he knew if he was the one Lyta spoke of, he would be a danger to us, and chose to strip himself as much as possible from anything that could potentially harm us. Lyta focused and the moment she did Garibaldi's face started to contort in what appeared to be pain, he brought his hands up to cover his face just as his scent started to shift, making John and I look at each other. After a few seconds, once his scent settled on a slightly murkier one, he peeked from behind his hands "Boo!" he said "Gotcha" He added jokingly, putting his hand down. But I was not so sure. And neither was John. To anyone else this would have looked just like a joke he would pull on us, something so him to do, but his scent did shift, however John chose to play along, giving me the cue to follow his lead.

"Michael! You ever do that to me again…" said John giving him his PPG back, as Stephen rolled his eyes at Garibaldi's antics.

"Sorry, I just couldn't help myself" said Michael holstering his gun "Uh.. Ivanova"

"We're gonna hold off on her for now. We've got plenty other people to check and I suggest we get to it" said John before I could even look at Michael "Besides, I know for certain she was not the one that fired on Lyta"

"How are you so certain?" asked Lyta not upset, but not thrilled either

"She was…" He started trying to find a way to explain, so I sighed and chose to embarrass myself by being blunt instead of being scanned.

"I was having mad angry sex with my fiancée" I told them all, making Stephen choke for a few seconds and Garibaldi grin amused, once again getting aroused by the idea, making me upset about it "Get your mind away from those thoughts!" I snarled when I saw his day dream to be the one to have angry sex with Talia.

"Oh come on now, you can't know what I'm thinking" he said dismissively

"Uh, we don't need to be telepaths to know what you were just thinking Michael" added Stephen, inadvertedly covering for my slip up.

"Let's just move forward" said Lyta rubbing at her temples, probably having been hit by Garibaldis thoughts too.

"Before we proceed with the rest of the staff, do you think it is possible for another telepath to be the mole?" Asked John

"Yes! We did not think about that possibility yesterday" said Franklin excited

"I guess it is possible" said Lyta after pondering about it "But highly unlikely, it would be too obvious" she added, making me sigh in mid relief. "How many Psi Corps telepaths are here?" she asked then making me freeze

"One" said John

"Well, actually two. I know you guys are fighting, but we must not forget Talia" said Franklin, to which both Michael and I frowned.

"Talia does not report to Psi Corps anymore, she reports to Ambassador Kosh" I supplied, hoping to keep her away from this for as long as possible

"What do you mean?" asked Lyta

"She was hired exclusively by Ambassador Kosh, several months ago. About a year ago if I'm not mistaken" Answered John looking at me waiting for me to nod in confirmation

"That is why Psi Corps ended up sending a new commercial telepath for the station. He arrived late February" I said in turn

"Then I don't think it is her, and from the intel we have, the sleeper has been on board for a long while, so I do not think it is the new telepath either, that would be actually a stupid move by the Corps" said Lyta "But we could always try the password on both of them" she added shrugging her shoulders

"Let's start with our staff then" said John simply

And with that, a procession of officers were summoned one by one to the Captain's office, just to receive praise and a thank you for their hard work, all while Michael casually leaned on John's desk, Stephen fidgeted by plant in the corner of the office, I sat impatiently waiting at the couch, and Lyta kept sending the password over and over, each time signaling for the Captain to know that the mole had not been found in the people that kept coming in.

Zack was clearly confused when his turn arrived and he only stood by John's desk a few seconds before been dismissed, without praise or punishment. He looked warily at me and I ended up nodding, hoping to convey it was ok for him to leave and that everything was alright.

We spent hours going through all staff, all of us getting anxious with the whole situation. Eventually, once I stood to stretch my legs, Michael ended up approaching me.

"Hey, you all right?" he asked but there was something in the way he was looking at me that stopped me from speaking, so I just nodded. "Okay" he accepted and walked back to lean against John's desk. I couldn't shake the feeling that maybe we had already found the mole and we were doing nothing about it. There was no other explanation as to why Garibaldi's scent has shifted the moment Lyta sent the password. And yet, I was holding on to the hope that I was wrong, because if I wasn't, then there were definitely more than one people with implanted personalities, and that possibility was almost as scary as completely losing Talia.

If both Michael and Talia had implanted personalities, and both were supposed to be spying on us without knowing, then Kosh had to have known about it and that must be the reason he merged Talia and Tee. So if I was right, surely he could do the same with Michael and whoever it was that took his place.

Eventually, while I was lost in thought, John lost his cool and strode towards Lyta "All right, anything?" he asked hoping for an answer

"No…He's clean" said Lyta calmly "They've all been clean. If the password worked, you'd see a reaction" she added. Making me look at John, hoping he could understand what I was thinking. He did look at me too, and I knew he thought the same. And for the first time in many years I was happy he had heightened senses, because if he had only known about it without experiencing it, then it is entirely possible he wouldn't have believed me when I told him about Michael's scent shifting, or would state it was out of spite because of his crush on Talia.

"So what are we supposed to do now?" asked Michael from a corner of the room "Just keep on going?" he added mockingly "We've got over 5000 technical staff, and that doesn't even include Dockers Guild, medical support, environmental personnel…"

"The further you go from the center of power the less likely it is we're gonna find the person that we're looking for" said Lyta pointedly looking at me

"I suggest you move those eyes somewhere else while you still have them!" I said tightening my jaw with every syllable.

"Ivanova!" called a startled Stephen, never having really seen me so aggressive when it was not related to Talia

"I know what she's implying" I said staring at Lyta

"No one is implying anything" said Stephen trying to calm me down

"To avoid discovery the implanted personality would do or say anything" started Lyta "So how do we know for example, you're not just saying you were with your fiancée at the time of the attack?" she asked still pointedly staring at me "How is it that you are so certain that she was?" she asked turning to the Captain "This personality could manipulate anyone just to keep the cover"

"Is that what you think I'm doing?" I asked upset by the accusation

"Well you sure as hell are worried about something" contributed Michael, making me want to kill him

"He's right" said Lyta slowly approaching me "Mind telling us what you're hiding?"

"Damn it, I've had enough!" I yelled at the same time John did, making me pause. I didn't know if it was him projecting to me, or me to him, when we said the same thing.

"Now, look at us" said John after a second of silence "This is exactly what Psi Corps wants. They want us paranoid, afraid of each other. Divide and conquer, it's the oldest rule in the book, you know that"

"I guess it wouldn't be a good time for me to suggest that we all join hands and sing 'Kumbaya'?" asked Michael probably trying to lighten the mood

"Mr Garibaldi-" said John turning to him the moment I reached a decision

"I'll do it" I said softly

"This is neither the time nor the place-" continued John not minding my words

"I said I'll do it" I said loudly then "Now, before I change my mind" I addressed Lyta and braced myself for the probe that I knew would come. And as I expected, as soon as I felt her brush against my mind, all my walls went up. I was putting a big effort into putting them down for her to be able to send the password, but I just couldn't.

"She's blocking me" said Lyta clearly surprised, before trying again. "How are you blocking me?" she asked when I instinctively pushed her off my mind again.

"Let's try one more time" I told her after I took a long breath. We had the same result. Just as Lyta was about to push harder into my mind, John approached me and loosely held me in his arms

"Okay okay. That's enough" he said soothingly "That's enough, come on" as he did, I perceived Talia's scent approaching, and I relaxed somewhat soothed by the fact that she still had my own scent lingering on her, in that moment I felt the password slipping through.

"She's clean" said Lyta sighing, probably upset I was not the mole "I'm sorry" she added as an after thought

"Go to hell" I told her, taking a small victory in the fact that she seemed to have a headache then.

Immediately after that Talia came in. "Captain, there you are. I was looking for all of you" she said looking at Garibaldi, John and myself "Ambassador Kosh has asked me to run some errands off Babylon 5, so I need some help making the proper transport arrangements" she said making me pause and wonder how long would she be gone, and if Kosh had really asked her to go or if she had asked Kosh for a chance to leave the station. However my questioning of the reasons for her departure came to a halt the moment Lyta sent the password without warning to Talia's mind. Both of them were slightly thrown physically apart, and both kept holding their heads.

"Are you alright?" I asked immediately coming to Talia's side, helping her stay steady on her feet

She took a moment to deeply breathe in and compose herself. She looked up and stared hardly at Michael, to which he grinned. As I was about to growl, Talia held my arm in a soothing manner "I am. Just a strong headache." She said looking me in the eye but sending a different message into my mind 'We need to talk' she added as she straightened up "Ms Alexander should have known that sending such a strong probe to an unaware telepath would have caused both of their mental walls to clash and crack" she said smiling through the headache she clearly was still fighting off "Mr Garibaldi, I could use breakfast early in the morning tomorrow to discuss security for my trip, say, at 6:28? That is if you are awake" Michael nodded still smirking. "Found what you wanted?" she then asked mockingly to Lyta, who blushed at that question

"I'm deeply sorry I did not believe you Commander Ivanova" said Lyta recomposing herself

"Ivanova, why don't you take Ms Winters home?" suggested John "We'll sort what you need for transport tomorrow" he said looking at Talia "In the meantime, we will wrap this up" he said then gesturing to Lyta. "Oh, Commander. Don't forget our meeting tomorrow morning. We still need to go through those pesky reports" he said making me frown for a moment. We had not a scheduled meeting for the day after and I knew not of which reports he was talking about. Then it dawned on me, he wanted to talk about Michael.

"Will see you tomorrow Captain" I said, leading Talia out

It felt strange walking side by side when we were not talking. I reached for her hand hoping she had had a change of heart and was willing to let me in, and that that had been the reason she said we needed to talk, but I was wrong. She just moved away when my hand brushed hers. After a few minutes we were at our quarters door.

"Come in" she said rolling her eyes when I didn't move from the threshold as she opened the door. "I went to Kosh after you left" she said once I was inside "He said that unity had been a gift, a show of good faith I believe. Then he tasked me with something off the station and told me to arrange transport since he would not do that for me. I've been looking for you or the Captain since then"

"Where are you going? When are you coming back?" I asked worriedly

"Can't tell you where. And don't know when" she said shrugging "But that is not the reason I had to talk to you"

I looked up hoping once again she were to forgive me. "Is it not?"

"I was the mole" she said "When Lyta sent the password, I remembered everything" And my heart stopped there. "Hey" she softly called making me look up, realizing I had dropped down to the floor "I said I was" she said crouching in front of me "My code name was Control 13" she said offering me her hand and helping me rise, slowly bringing me to the couch.

"The password worked" I whispered trying to make sense of what she was saying

"It did. But only partially. At least with me. Because of Jason. And because of Kosh"

"What do you mean?" I asked, desperately wanting to be wrong about the assumptions I was making then

"I was not the only one in the B5 sleeper program" she said confirming my suspicions "I am, was, Control 13, as I told you, and there were two more, 28 and 64, who were supposed to report to me." she continued, making me gape at her

"Do you know who the others are?" I asked her, still dreading the answer

"Yes. If I was ever awoken, I was to wake the other two, so they could assist me. 64 is long gone" she said sighing

"And 28?" 'Please let me be wrong' I prayed

"I think you already know" said Talia sadly

"We need to tell John" I said sighing defeated

I called John and talked him into coming to Talia's and mine quarters, stating that this could not wait until morning, even if morning was only a few hours away by then. Once he was informed of 28 and who it was, we agreed to proceed as he did before, pretend we did not know about the change, and let Talia play double (or was it triple now?) agent for us, starting with a report she sent on that moment to Control HQ, and then her morning breakfast with Michael. It pained me to let her put herself in danger like that, but I had to let her, or there would not be a chance for us to rebuild our trust, and therefore our relationship.

"We'll be alright Susan" she told me when John left our quarters. I looked at her, not daring to hope "I can't completely let go of my anger yet, but I eventually will." She said holding my hand in hers and planting a small kiss on my knuckles "And we will be alright" she added letting go of my hand and leaning in to give me the sweetest of kisses. 'Love is enough. And I do love you Susan, with all my bieng' she added in my mind before breaking off our kiss.

A few days later, when Talia left with Lyta a couple of days before New Year, it felt as if my life lost its meaning,

When New Year's Eve came along with the traditional Boom, it all went crazy and during the aftermath of all that, the only thing that kept me going, were her last words in my mind.

We all knew that Babylon 5 was our last best hope for peace, by the end of 2260 we knew that it had failed, but in doing so it became something greater… it became our last best hope for survival, because sometimes peace is another word for dead, and because secretes had a way of getting out… so as I said, I clung to Talia's parting words as a lifeline…

Love is enough.

A/N: Telepath Wolf Season finale!

Ok… No words here to describe how grateful I am you are all still here, or how sorry I am for disappointing you in the time that passes between updates, or the inconsistency in the length of each chapter. I know saying life gets in the way of writing is disappointing to read, no matter how true it is.

It will be a while before our ladies are reunited again, so in turn it will be a while before we have a chapter from Talia's POV, next time we do will start with the missing parts of "Divided Loyalties" from her view and continue with some of what she went through until the moment she comes back to B5. I do hope though that it does not deter you from still reading what I come up with for Susan and the Pack and you know, the usual B5 booms.

So just a small note time line wise. I took the writing liberty to stretch this season in the period of 2 years canon time. This means, S01 took place in 2058, and S02 took place in 2059 and 2060, S03 will definitely take place in 2061, but for now only using episodes of canon S03. Then, eventually, S04 will be on 2062… and this still might change, so basically, we are pushing the canon events through a longer period of time. It is ok anyway because I will only use small parts of canon S05 (I think).

Now, do not forget that this particular fic will be marked as complete, and for the next chapter you will have to look/wait for the next fic in the series, Telepath Wolf Season 03, I hope that its first chapter will be posted soon, cant really say that will be within a month, though that is what I am aiming for.

BTW, you know the drill… Remember to leave your reviews… they nourish my imagination.
