Chapter 5:
Hallway monitor

"Kagome... are you alright?" Yuka asked, her childhood friends were gathered around her locker, peeking past the metal door she had been using as a shield, she tried and failed to seem unbothered.

"Hm? Who? Me? Why wouldn't I be fine?" Kagome answered in one quick breath, busy shoveling her books into her locker in what she hoped would be lighting speed but ended working against her since most of what she put in, fell out.

"Maybe because you've been cowering behind your locker for the entire morning, seriously what gives?" Eri motioned at her, pointing out the fact that she still had her head almost all the way inside her cabinet.

"I am not cowering!" Kagome yelled, poking her head out only to yip and shove it back in just as quick of a matter.

What could she say to them that wouldn't have her expiring from mortification, that she had effectively gone further with the notorious bully than all of them had with their respective boyfriends? That she had now more experience than even their older siblings, and that 'Bad-luck-Kagome', had received the single most intense orgasm from said bully she hadn't even known was possible?

"Yo! Earth to Higurashi? You with us?" Yuka waved her hand in front of her face, blinking away such salacious memories, Kagome gulped down her sudden bout of nerves.

No, she couldn't very well share anything that had occurred as of the last few days. They wouldn't understand, she could barely understand how it had all gone down herself, and she had been an active participant!

"Kagome... are you sure everything is okay; we can help you if you have a problem you know." Ayumi chimed in, in that gentle wash of a voice that was just her way of speaking, but often worked more effectively than the badgering and hammering her other two friends tended to do.

Glancing at her group of friends with their well-meaning faces, Kagome felt inclined to give some form of explanation, even if she didn't quite know what that explanation would be.

"Well-" she began, and no sooner that she opened her mouth, Kagome spotted the source of all her troubles rounding the corner.

Inuyasha moved with a force that was all his own, if people didn't part ways in time, he would simply blow right through them, knocking poor innocent students aside with a stiff shoulder.

His face was set once more in that peculiar scowl of his, one she now knew the reason behind, and felt her face become aflame with how vivid she knew the real culprit of his sour mood.

"Crap, crap, crap!" Kagome hissed low, lowering herself so that she may hide behind her friends, never mind that they were smaller than her and he taller than all four of them.

They all turned to face down the hall, giving her position away just as effectively as if she had a neon sign towering above her head.

"Don't look! He'll see me!" Kagome whispered furiously, shoveling her books in and slamming the door shut with force when the locker refused to shut.

"Who?" Eri questioned, but Kagome was already making her getaway, slinking herself against the wall of lockers and half-crouching-half-running down the hall.

No sooner that she was disappearing around the corner bend, did Inuyasha pass by them, the awful bully didn't spare them a glance. Simply continued on, stomping his away across the hall and scaring the daylights out of the student body, both male and female alike.

"Do you think... him?" Yuka whispered, pulling the other two girls close.

"Noooo~ or... maybe?" Eri whispered back, staring at the boy as he made his way down the same corner her friend had just fled to.

"Is Kagome... having a bully problem?" Ayumi finished for them, wringing her hands together with worry.

.

Kagome walked on with a brisk speed, as close to running as one could get without having to label it that, despite this she was already the recipient of many questioning glances as she passed down one hallway after the next.

She thought about glancing back but felt her nerves spike at the idea, wasn't there a saying in scary movies 'you never look back at the killer'? Her situation certainly felt dire enough that she heeded that warning and just kept going.

Eventually she reached the point of no return, or to be precise, the point where she had no other option but to return back the way she had come.

Surely her luck couldn't be so bad that she would run into him on the way back, right? He was probably already in his own classroom, yeah...

'Oh please, please, PLEASE Kami be on my side today'

Kagome sent a silent prayer up before sneaking back through the halls, if she hadn't made a spectacle of herself before, she was certainly one now. Sticking close to the walls, peeking over corners and dashing down corridors.

Almost at her goal, Kagome made the grave mistake of letting herself relax, setting herself up for failure when she rounded a corner quickly instead of scanning down the hall first.

She knew it was him when she knocked face first into a firm chest, she hadn't needed to glance to see it was him, it was so in her range of bad luck that it couldn't possibly be anyone else.

Still, her surprise came when familiar strong hands grabbed her shoulders and shoved her away all in one foul swoop.

"Watch where you're going, NERD."

'Wait, what?' Inuyasha brushed passed her, ignoring her stunned expression to continue down the hall.

"Wait... what?!" Kagome called after him, shocked even further when he completely ignored her and went on his way, not even bothering to spare her a backward glance.

"What..." Kagome repeated to herself, confused and dare she admit, a little hurt.

She had thought he would be trying to seek her out, he had to be dealing with the same issue as before, she could practically see it in the tense pull from his shoulders and the tightens of his jaw.

The first warning bell sounded, yet she stood stuck still, staring at the vacant hall he had just occupied.

"Excuse me young lady, did you not hear the bell? Are you where you're supposed to be."

"Um... no, I'll just- be on my way then."

.

Confused couldn't begin to describe what she was, Kagome had thought it was up to her to avoid him so as not to have a repeat performance of their last interlude, but this was ridiculous.

Every chance she spotted him, he was walking the opposite way, every glance she threw his way was swiftly ignored.

She could see he was having it rough again, the day only seemed to wear on him, and as the last class of the day was on them so were the rumors of his infractions.

"I heard he tripped a girl and she fell down some stairs." One busybody whispered beside her, not bothering to whisper since they were in the middle of a free period.

"Good god! That's horrible."

"You kidding, did you hear what he did to that junior in the bathroom?" Another intercepted, cutting in between the two girls to add their own story. "I heard he stuck that boys head under the sink faucet and ran the water until the boy was soaked from head to toe!"

Rolling her eyes, Kagome continue to doodle in her notepad, only half listening to the stories being passed around.

If Inuyasha had tripped a girl down the stairs, why hadn't the school contacted first aid? And how could he have soaked a kid from head to toe when you could barely fit both hands under those tinny sinks?

She may have not noticed it before, but some, if not all the stories of Inuyasha's infamous behavior were sure far-fetched. Normally these stories wouldn't have been on her radar, but as the ignoring from his part towards her continued, Kagome found herself tuning in whenever anyone had said his name.

Kagome had hoped- No, not hoped, but maybe wondered about the next time they would find themselves in another precarious situation. It had felt as if Kami had been the one plotting and scheming to place them together.

Half expecting to run into him in some unforeseen area with his pants down, then of course she would... do what exactly? Wasn't this what she was hoping for? A clean-cut break to leave her past dues in the past?

Upping her doodling to scribbling, Kagome wondered if the one time experienced, they shared in the nurse's office, would really only be a onetime affair.

"You know he was the one that vandalized the cafeteria and blamed it on Shiteru-san."

"Shhhh! There he goes."

Head snapping up at their words, Kagome glanced around the room until she spotted him, only catching the swing of his long silver hair as he bypassed their classroom.

"I bet you he's skipping again, should I report it to the teacher?"

"Didn't you hear? Last guy that turned him in got wailed on, poor soul had a black eye for three whole weeks!"

"No way! What the heck is that guys problem?"

Swallowing past the knot in her throat, Kagome stared fixated on the open door, willing him to walk by again if only to judge the state of his mood. If the stories were somewhat accurate, he was growing more volatile by the hour, and only she knew what his problem really was.

Kagome wondered if he was on his way to remedy his situation right then...

"Excuse me, Sensei?" Standing up, Kagome raised her hand as high as it would go, heart racing a mile a minute as she did so.

"Yes Higurashi?"

.

Chasing after him was like chasing after a ghost, for as tall and imposing as he was, Inuyasha barely left a trail. Briskly walking down each hall, Kagome had gone on long enough where she wondered if she should turn back and deal with him tomorrow, when the clashing voices reached her.

"You really trying to piss me off, huh?!"

"I'm not afraid of you, you know..."

Peering around the next corner, Kagome spotted her culprit having it out with the hall monitor no less. The poor lad said he wasn't afraid, but the slight knocking of his knees together could tell otherwise, as it were, Inuyasha was glaring down at the fellow with just about the darkest look he could muster.

His eyes had tales of sleepless nights, and his sneer made him look downright demonic, but even with the frightening scowl and bawled up fists, Kagome felt determined to intervene.

If not for the poor monitor's well being, but for Inuyasha's as well.

"If you don't get out of my face, I'll-"

"Inuyasha!" Kagome called out, a false cheerful tone to her voice, one she hoped would help deescalate the current standoff. "There you are, you forgot your pass, silly."

"What?"

"Huh?"

Walking in between them, Kagome nearly shoved her slip into his empty hands, standing as a barrier.

Both boys stared at her as if she had lost her mind, and in all truthfulness, she felt she had. But Kagome was too far in it now to turn back, putting on the best smile she could muster, she beamed at the hall monitor with all her charm.

"Oh, sorry to interrupt, Inuyasha here walked out of the classroom without his pass, so our Sensei asked me to make sure he got it. Wouldn't want anyone to file a report against him only to have it be revoked, too much paperwork, am I right?"

She felt her composure slip as both boys only stared open mouthed her way, but eventually the hall monitor recovered long enough to stand down.

"I see... well, I should report you for your attitude alone, but I guess I'll let it be this time."

Regaining his composure, Inuyasha snarled at the boy who was really nothing but skin and bones.

"Just try it Pointdexter, see what that gets you!"

Using her elbow, Kagome aimed to hit him in the gut to silence him, instead she was the one who had to bite the inside of her cheek when it felt as if she had collided with stone wall.

They both waited for the hall monitor to walk down the hall and away from them, just as he had turned the corner, Kagome felt he was far enough away where she could properly react.

"Owww! Owie, owww, OUCH! What the heck do you keep under your shirt?"

"Keh! I ain't like these flabby wimps, but never mind that now, why'd you go and do that?"

Rubbing her sore elbow, Kagome returned his glare with one of her own.

"What? You wanted to get sent to detention? I figured you'd be over that by now."

Scoffing, Inuyasha crossed his arms and sneered down at her, still putting up pretenses even though they were alone.

"What do you want ya nerd?"

"Nerd? Seriously... whatever, I don't want anything, I just thought you needed help."

"Oh yeah? And how exactly do you think you could help me?"

She wanted to respond that she had already helped him, he was either going to pummel that poor boy and get suspended or get sent to detention for being out without permission, in honesty he probably would have gotten both. But as soon as he had asked her how she could help him, all types of images began filtering into her mind.

The many other times she had 'helped' him came flashing across her eyes, her nerves were spiking, and she didn't need a mirror to know she was once again red in the face.

"Hmm... don't tell me." Leaning down so he could be within eye height of her, Inuyasha was slow to smirk her way, studying her in a way that had her fighting to keep from squirming. "Were you hoping to help me that way again, huh?"

"NO!" Kagome cursed inwardly when her voice squeaked on its own accord, feeling foolish and exposed at the same time.

Just as she was preparing to deny, deny, deny. They were pulled from their conversation by the same irritating boy, he was rounding the same corner he had disappeared from, while half-shouting at them to- "Wait a second!"

"I don't think I asked to see your pass, Miss!"

"Ah..." Kagome hesitated, brain turning as she wondered what she could do or say to get out of this one.

When Inuyasha took hold of her wrist, "Fucking idiot, I swear."

Pulling her had been too easy, without another word, he had them both flying down the hall in a last-minute escape plan.

.

"Wait- hang on, seriously Inuyasha. Please~!"

Halting in their mad dash, Kagome braced herself on the nearest wall, huffing and puffing as she tried to regain normal breathing.

"Keh! You're out of shape."

"I... am, Not!" Pulling herself together, Kagome turned to glare at the boy who didn't seem at all winded. "I just wasn't prepared to be dragged all over the school so suddenly."

"It was either that or getting your first mark on that perfect record of yours."

Furrowing her brow, Kagome crossed her arms in defiance, "How do you know what my record looks like."

"Please, a goody-two-shoes like you. Of course, your record is squeaky clean. Bet you have some honorary mentions in it too, let me guess, perfect attendance?"

"Why you-"

"HEY! Hold on you two!"

"You have got to be kidding me!" Kagome peeked back around the corner they were currently hiding in, only to see the same lanky boy keeping up with them on the wild chase.

"Annoying fucking tool that one, let's go or do you want to get caught?"

"I don't want to get caught but..."

"But what?"

Putting on her most desperate face, Kagome pleaded for him to understand when she exclaimed, "I can't run anymore!"

"Useless... I should leave you here if you can't keep up."

She thought his threat real, felt hopelessness peeking its ugly head in, when once again he took hold of her wrist.

"Oh god no, please, not again."

"Keep up nerd, I've got a plan."

His plan had been to run down two more corridors before coming up on an unmarked door, no window to it, she assumed it would be locked as most unmarked doors were. But when Inuyasha reached for the handle, the door opened like he knew it would.

Inuyasha pulled them both into the dark small depths of what had appeared to be a janitorial closet, no light to be had here, just the uncomfortable jabbing of whatever hung on the walls.

She tried to push back further into the room and away from the wall, but Inuyasha was there acting as a barrier, and the more she pushed the more he shoved her further into the wall.

"Ouch! Something is hurting me."

"Shut up you idiot!"

Kagome had half a mind to stomp on his foot, assured she would find it somewhere within the dark if she just kicked around wildly, but the voice from just the other side kept her nice and complacent.

"WAIT!... huff... wait you two... I- need- pass..."

She waited until the voice grew quiet in the distance, once she felt safe in the stillness outside, she whispered behind her. "Do you think he's gone?"

His reply came after a tense pause, "Yeah, you should be good."

"Okay... so what do I do now?"

"Leave... NOW."

His harsh tone confused her and in an act that was too hazardous, Kagome decided against his initial instructions, turning around in the dark room to face him, she reached blindly towards him.

No sooner that her hands had landed on his chest, did he snag them away from him, holding both wrists in a tight one-handed hold.

"What do you think you're doing?!"

"I- I was just... are you- okay?"

"What's it to ya!"

"Look if you're in pain or whatever, I want to help."

"Oh yeah? Is that why you were running away this morning?"

Kagome was so glad for the darkness, her blushing face would be spared, and his pointed words were plenty, she didn't need to see his harsh glare that he was undoubtedly shooting her way.

"Yeah, got nothing to say now, huh?"

Again, she remained silent, unsure of what to say when it felt as if she was the one that had hurt his feelings, what a novelty that seemed to be. Kagome the ever-good soul, wounded the notorious school bully, but she had and now she had no words to make it better.

"Just leave, I've dealt with this problem on my own long before you, I can do it again."

This was once again the out she had been looking for, everything that had been done previously could be written off if she were to just step out, and whatever situations they had landed themselves in before would be a thing of the past.

.

It felt too ridiculous how little she thought this through, not even a moment of hesitation before she was willing to crucify herself all over again.

"I want to help."

The silence that followed after was on his part, for a moment Kagome thought he would turn her away still, regardless of how much in need he truly was.

"And tomorrow you'll what? Run from me again?"

"Tomorrow..." Kagome swallowed thickly, a part of her brain stunned into silence by the deal she was going to be making, "I'll help out too... if you need me, or whatever."

"You're sure?"

"Yep."

"Fine then... turn around and bend over."
