This was it.
Yuni could feel her flames fading quickly now, but even still, she didn't stop pouring them into the 5 pacifiers she held in her arms. She couldn't stop, not now, and with Gamma holding her in their soon to be final moments, she wasn't afraid anymore. What she was doing was for the good of the future, and the past. She knew Tsuna would be saddened by her death, but hoped that it wouldn't keep him down, especially in such a crucial moment in his fight against Byakuran.
Yuni remembered the words of her mother, and with tears rolling down her cheeks, she smiled. She hugged Gamma closer and closed her eyes as she felt the last of her flames engulf them both, and the feeling of her body and soul disappearing.
….
'This feels…. familiar…' That was the sole thought going through Yuni's mind at the moment. Just moments ago, she was sacrificing herself to bring back her fallen comrades, but now, she wasn't sure where she was. There was nothing here, just a pitch black that made her wonder if she even had her eyes open. After her mom Aria had died, many people told her how she was in a better place, a paradise, and Yuni deep down hoped that was true. That one day, she could see and hug her mom again, and how she would tell her mom about everything that's happened in her life up till now. This darkness, however, was making her feel like maybe the few people like Nosaru who thought that there was no afterlife were right.
Then suddenly, Yuni caught a brief glimpse of something. It was something blue, but it had flown past her so fast that she couldn't get a good look at it. Then there was another flash of blue. Then another, and another, until there were many blue blurs that surrounded her.
'What is this?' she tried to speak, but it was like the words wouldn't come out. Or maybe they couldn't come out due to her circumstances. With so many of the blue objects around her, she was able to get a good look at a few here and there.
It was Earth. A bunch of Earths just passing by her at high speeds. Why, though? The space around her was lit up with a bluish hue, and she was starting to recognize the feeling she's having. It feels like the time after Byakuran tried to break her soul. The time when she learned that she could also travel to parallel worlds with her soul. 'Is that what's happening now?' she wondered.
Suddenly, she felt herself being jerked and realized she was getting pulled somewhere. She saw stars, galaxies, suns, and black holes rush by her in seconds. Soon though, she saw a familiar looking blue planet get closer and closer, until her soul was dragged down to the planet and to the country of Japan. Her soul flew through the country before heading to a hospital in a small town. Yuni didn't have much time to wonder what was happening, before she was engulfed by a bright white light.
... [3 Years Later] [Domino City, Japan]
The next thing Yuni knew, she was sitting on a carpet floor playing with a little pink car. 'Huh?' She let go of the toy and brought her small hands closer to her face. 'What's going on?' she wondered.
She took a look around her and noticed that she was now in a small, lightly orange painted room. Several toys were thrown out onto the floor while more were in a little bucket in the corner. A small bed with bird patterned covers was neatly tucked against the wall to her right. As she turned more, she saw a closet door on her left with a door leading to a hallway slightly ahead of that. She had lingered on the closet door however, due to it having a long mirror attached to it. What she saw looking back at her was herself but, smaller and definitely much younger. She didn't understand what was going on, so she slowly stood up and headed for the room door to try to figure something out.
"H-hello?" she called out into the hallway.
"Yes honey? Did you need something?" Yuni heard this soft voice respond back. She froze for a second before slowly following the voice to the master bedroom. When she stepped into the sunlit room, she looked over to the tall woman folding laundry on the bed. The woman's familiar long black hair framed her beautiful face, and her blue eyes shined in the light. Yuni felt like she stood staring for an eternity, and soon her eyes began to water at the sight of her mother, Aria.
"M-mom!" she cried as she ran at her mother and proceeded to hug her leg with all her might. Yuni couldn't stop her tears from falling as she buried her face into her mom's pant leg. This was her mom, even down to the 5-pointed symbol of the Giglo Nero on her cheek. Aria was shocked when her daughter ran to her and started crying out of nowhere, but quickly put down the unfolded shirt she had in her hands.
"What's wrong Yuni? Are you hurt somewhere?" she asked her crying toddler. Yuni just shook her head and held her mother tighter. "I missed you so much..." Yuni said quietly. Aria knelt down to reach her daughter and gave her a big hug.
"I was right here the whole time, Yuni but I missed you too." Aria smiled and kissed the top of Yuni's head. 'Kids are so weird.' she thought to herself.
Yuni didn't know what had happened, but at this moment she didn't care. She was just happy to be able to be with her mom again. For her, this place had just become paradise.
... [12 Years Later]
"Next please" the woman sitting at the registration table called out. She brushed her brown hair away from her face as a girl walked up to the table. "Your name please." she asked the girl. "Yuni Nero" she responded. The registration woman took a moment to look through the sheet of names given to her by some academy staff member. "Ok, I have you registered now. Just go through the doors and the room where you'll be taking the written exam will be the second door on the left." she recited to the applicant. "Ok, thank you." and with a short bow Yuni headed for the doors. The applicant couldn't help but stare at Yuni as she left, specifically the big, white, pillowy hat she wore. 'What a weird hat, and what was with that pacifier?.' she thought to herself before looking forward at the long line of applicants still left. She sighed at the sight before calling for the next applicant.
Meanwhile, Yuni walked down the hallway littered with several other teens, all here for the same reason. To be admitted into the Duel Academy, arguably the best dueling school in the country. Through the past 12 years, she figured out that she not only traveled to, but essentially got reincarnated into a parallel world, though it must've been one of the parallel worlds that was further away from her original world, since she had never traveled to this one before. She also quickly learned that this world seemed to be a little obsessed with something that was never in her original world. That being 'Duel Monsters', a trading card game that almost everyone seemed to be hooked onto. At first, Yuni didn't really see the appeal of the game, but after going to a match her mom was participating in, it started to grow on her. She wasn't as good as Aria, being the former pro she is, but Yuni wanted to grow in skill and reach the same level her mom did. So for the past 9 years, Yuni had learned, practiced, and played the game, with her mom helping her as she went. Now, at 15 years old, Yuni is taking a chance to be able to take her dueling to the next level. To become a pro and make her mom proud.
Yuni stepped into the large classroom and went over to an empty seat next to a window. She took her bag which held her duel disk off and sat down to wait for the start of the exam.
"I like your hat." a voice behind her said suddenly. Yuni turned around to see a girl with blond and black hair and green eyes with a small smile on her face. "Your hat. It's interesting." she said while pointing at the big puffy hat Yuni wore.
"Oh, thanks. It's a family heirloom that my mom gave for me to wear today for good luck" Yuni explained while lightly messing with the front of the hat. She was surprised to learn that her family here in this world had the same hat she wore in hers, and even more to learn that according to her mom, their family at some point hundreds of years ago were royalty, which is what the hat signified.
"That's pretty cool." the girl said. Yuni caught her glancing down for a second before she asked "And, what about the pacifier necklace?" Yuni looked down at the orange pacifier she had attached to a lanyard and smiled a little sadly.
"This is also a good luck charm, and... it's to remind me of some old friends. I had this necklace custom made about 5 years ago." Yuni wanted to get something to remember not just the Arcobaleno, but everyone else she had left behind. It brought her comfort to think of this as them always being with her. There was also the fact that she was so used to having a pacifier that she didn't feel right without it.
"Hmm..that's kinda weird…. but I like it." the girl said while giving a wide smile. Yuni smiled back; she knew that this girl didn't mean anything rude with what she said. Something that Yuni realized she still had from her old life, is her ability to know a person's intentions and feelings just from looking into their eyes. Yuni felt nothing but innocence and curiosity from the girl's emerald eyes. "Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't introduce myself. My name is Lori Hayashi. Nice to meet ya!" she said happily while extending her hand to Yuni.
"It's ok. I'm Yuni Nero, and it's nice to meet you too." Yuni smiled back while giving Lori a handshake. Shortly after, a tall man walked into the room with a stack of packets in his hands and stood at the front of the room. "Alright applicants, quiet down now. We'll be starting the written exam shortly so please take your seats." While the few people standing up were starting to pick their seats, Yuni looked back at Lori for a moment to wish her luck on the exam. Lori smiled before wishing her the same, and soon after the entire room was quiet aside from the sound of pencils scribbling on paper.
...
After finishing her exam and it being graded quickly via machine, Yuni was told to head towards the arena which was down further into the building. Now, Yuni sat in the stands waiting for her name to be called so she could have her dueling exam against one of the proctors. For now, though, she'll just watch the few matches that are happening currently. As she was watching a duel of an applicant using a zombie themed deck, she didn't notice that someone walking around nearby had stopped and was standing next to her.
"That's Shuten-Doji right?" a guy to her right asked her while pointing at the monster the applicant she was watching had on his field. Yuni turned, a little spooked by the boy's sudden appearance. "Um, yeah it is." she responded. The boy brought his hand to his chin and sat down with a focused look on his face. "So that means all he has to do is crash into the proctor's monster, then use Call of the Haunted to bring it back and attack directly to win." he muttered to himself, all the while looking at the match. The boy suddenly turned to Yuni for the first time, with a small blush and a look of embarrassment on his face. "O-oh, I'm s-sorry. I j-just get a l-little excited with d-duels is all." he blurted out.
Yuni gave the gray-haired boy her famous smile and waved a hand. "There's nothing to apologize for, duels are exciting after all." The boy's blush got bigger, and he quickly looked away and moved as if he was thinking about running away to hide. "U-um my name i-is Yuuchi." he said quietly.
Yuni, still smiling, stretched out her hand to him. "Nice to meet you, my name is-"
"YUNI!" screamed Lori as she practically jumped into the seat on Yuni's left. Lori had a huge smile on her face at seeing her hopefully new friend. Yuuchi on the other hand had been scared badly due to Lori coming out of nowhere and her yelling. Yuni saw in the corner of her eye how he was basically hiding in his shirt like a turtle tucking his head in.
"So, how did you do on the exam, Yuni?" Lori asked, seemingly ignoring Yuuchi.
"I did pretty good on it, I studied a lot in preparation for it." Yuni answered. "That's cool, I probably should've studied more. I barely passed it, but hey, that's still passing!" Lori said while shaking her head, then she had an idea. "Oh, if we both make it into the academy, can you help me with studying? Pleeeeaaase?" she asked Yuni while tilting her head and making her eyes look as big and innocent as possible. Yuni found this cute and giggled behind her hand. "Of course I can help you with that, and I'm sure we'll both make it into the school." Yuni answered. Lori's smile somehow got even wider as she pumped her fist and did a little jump. "Yaaay! I think we're going to be good friends!" she exclaimed, resulting in a couple other teens looking at her with a weird look.
As Lori sat back down, she noticed Yuni's bag which was just barely holding her duel disk inside. "Oh, I almost forgot! I wanted to ask you what kind of deck you use? If you're ok with telling me." she asked while pointing at her bag. Yuuchi slowly peeked out of his shirt to look over at Yuni, also curious about the answer. Yuni looked down at her bag before looking back at Lori. "I don't mind telling you at all." Yuni said honestly before grabbing her bag to place it on her lap. "The deck I use is-"
"Yuni Nero, please report to exam field 7. Yuni Nero, please report to exam field 7."
Hearing her name called over the PA system, Yuni quickly stood up holding her bag tightly. "Oh, it looks like I'm up now. If you guys get called before I get back, then good luck to both of you." Yuni said to Lori and Yuuchi while giving a small bow to them before quickly walking moving down the stairs. Lori watched Yuni go down the stairs with a pout. 'Man, I wanted to know what she was playing. Well, I guess I can just watch her duel then.' she thought to herself before turning and noticing Yuuchi sitting a seat away from her. "Oh, hi! I didn't notice you were there. I'm Lori!" she said as he slowly brought his head fully out of his shirt. "H-hi, I'm Yu-Yuuchi." he said quietly.
"Nice to meet you Yuyuuchi!" she exclaimed with a smile, not noticing the look on his face as she said his name wrong. "Soooo, what deck do you use?" she asked with a small mischievous grin on her face.
"Lori Hayashi, please report to exam field 2. Lori Hayashi, please report to exam field 2."
"Aaaww, already? Now I can't watch Yuni's duel." she said sadly, before getting up and slinging her blue and green backpack on. "Well, wish me luck Yuyuuchi!" she said before running down the stairs, not letting Yuuchi have a chance to say anything.
Yuuchi let out a breath he didn't know he was holding. "So hyper and loud." he muttered to himself. He sat up a little straighter as he looked towards both exam field 7 and 2. One could see the sudden focus that appeared in his amethyst-colored eyes if they looked over to him. He was curious to see what the nice and gentle Yuni would be playing, and he even wanted to know what kind of deck the loud and cute Lori would use.
...
As Yuni was walking under the dueling area's floor, she heard the PA system call for Lori and silently hoped that she would win her duel. Yuni made sure to strap her duel disk on and held her deck box in her hand. She took a deep breath as she walked onto a little white circular platform in front of her. "I can do this…I can do this." she said to herself. Then the platform hummed before raising her up into the air. The floor above her opened up and she was slowly brought up into the duel field. She looked at the 4 walls surrounding the area, taking notice of how tall they were and how no one other than the people in the stands could look in on the duel.
Yuni turned to her left and noticed the dueling proctor standing on the other side of the box they were in. The proctor was a brown-haired man with glasses, wearing a buttoned up bluish-purple jacket with white accents on it. The proctor looked over to her and called out. "Ok Ms. Nero, listen up! This duel will be for 1 or 2 things. The first is to see if you'll be accepted into the school, and the second is to determine what dorm you'll be put in if you are accepted into school. The time limit for the duel will be 40 minutes. I'll be using a premade exam deck for this duel, and you can use a deck of your own choice, or a deck premade by the academy if you do not have your own. Do you understand?" he explained to her. "Yes sir." Yuni said as she walked into the outline of the duel field on the floor. She attached her deck box to her pants and took out her deck. She stared at it for a moment, before placing it into her duel disk with a smile. "Let's do our best guys." she whispered to the deck as she turned on her duel disk, letting it spring open. The proctor, seeing her ready, proceeds to place the exam deck into his duel disk as well. "Ok rookie, let's get started."
(Author's Note: This is my first time writing a duel, so please excuse me if it isn't that good)
"DUEL!" they simultaneously said. As their duel disks set both their life points to 4000.
"I draw!" Yuni said as pulled a card from her deck. She looked down at her hand and started to think about her game plan. Her hand consisted of:
Pot of Avarice
Rainbow Maker Indigo
Polymerization
Rainbow Maker Yellow
Negate Attack
Monster Reborn
Yuni looked up as she grabbed two cards from her hand. "First I summon Rainbow Maker Yellow in defense mode!" she placed the card onto her duel disk, making the image of a brown-haired boy in a yellow raincoat drop down onto the field with his arms crossed over his chest.
Light | Fairy| Lvl 3 | ATK: 1400 | DEF: 1300
"Then I'll set one card facedown and end my turn." she finished with putting Negate Attack into her duel disk, making the facedown card appear in a spell/trap zone.
The proctor watched all of this before drawing a card from his deck. "Hmm, nothing special so far. I draw!" Yuni watched him look at his hand for a second before grabbing and placing a monster into his field. "I summon Treeborn Frog in defense mode." he said as a hologram of a little frog with wings appeared.
Water | Aqua | Lvl 1 | ATK: 100 | DEF: 100
"And I think I'll end my turn there. Go ahead rookie." he said while crossing his arms.
"Alright then, I draw-" Yuni said before seeing that she drew the card Pot of Greed. "And I'll play the card I just got. Pot of Greed! This allows me to draw 2 more cards from my deck." she said before drawing two more times. She looked at the new cards:
Airknight Parshath
Bountiful Artemis
"Alright then, I'm going to tribute my Rainbow Maker Yellow to summon Airknight Parshath in attack mode!" Yuni sent her Rainbow Maker monster to the grave before placing the new monster into the field, watching as the hologram of the angelic looking knight appeared.
Light | Fairy | Lvl 5 | ATK: 1900 | DEF: 1400
"But now I'll use the spell Monster Reborn! This lets me special summon 1 monster from either graveyard, and of course I choose my Rainbow Maker Yellow!" Yuni told as she brought her monster back in attack mode.
"Now I'm going to attack your frog using my knight! Go Parshath, with Holy Slash!" Yuni yelled as her monster ran up to the frog and slashed at it with her sword, destroying it in a shower of pixels. "And Parshath has a special effect, where if she attacks a defense position monster, it inflicts piercing battle damage to you!" Yuni explained as the shockwave from her Parshath's attack hit the proctor, dealing 1800 damage to his life points, making them go down to 2200.
"Then when she inflicts battle damage to my opponent, I can draw a card." Yuni said as she drew the card Spirits Fusion. "Alright, and now my Rainbow Maker Yellow will attack you directly for 1400 points of damage, with Bright Beam!" The boy's hands glowed yellow before he launched a yellow beam at the proctor, causing his life points to drop even lower to 800.
"Ghh!" The proctor grunted as his life points dropped down to 800. He looked up at Yuni and smirked. "Hmm, not bad rookie. Not bad at all." Yuni just smiled and set Spirits Fusion before ending her turn.
"Well, time to get started. Draw!" The proctor drew his card. "Now, since I have no spells or traps on my field, I can special summon my Treeborn Frog from my graveyard." he says while grabbing the monster and placing it back onto the field in defense mode. "But he won't be staying long, because I'll be using him to tribute summon: Zaborg the Thunder Monarch!" he exclaims as the giant thunder monster appeared on the field from a burst of lightning.
Light | Thunder | Lvl 5 | ATK: 2400 | DEF: 1000
"And that's not all! Since he was tribute summoned, he gets to destroy one monster you control! So say goodbye to your Airknight Parshath!" he said as Zaborg charged lightning between his hands before shooting it at Parshath, making the monster explode.
Yuni covered her face from the smoke the explosion caused but had no time to rest as the proctor went into his Battle Phase. "Now Zaborg, attack her Rainbow Maker Yellow with Thunder Domination!" he commanded. Zaborg charged up some more lightning before making it rain down onto Yuni's sole monster, making it get shocked and destroyed, causing a yellow explosion. The lightning then went to Yuni as she took the 1000 points of damage to her life points, leaving her at 3000.
"Then I'll set one card facedown and end my turn." he said while putting a card onto the field. Yuni proceeds to draw a card, but the proctor wasted no time and called out to her. "Since it's your Standby Phase, I can activate my trap card!" The card on the field flips up, revealing it to Yuni. "Thunder of Ruler! This card makes it so that you can't conduct your Battle Phase this turn." he explains while the trap card produced a golden glowing wall to appear between the 2 duelist's fields.
Yuni said nothing at this and looked down at the card she drew. She then immediately placed it into the spell/trap slot of her duel disk to use it. "I activate Rainbow Reach!" she said as the continuous spell appeared onto the field. "This card makes it so that once per turn, I can banish one Rainbow Maker monster from my deck. Then during the End Phase of the next turn, I get to add it to my hand." Yuni explained while going through her deck, and then grabbing a monster. "And I'm choosing to banish Rainbow Maker Red." Yuni showed the proctor the monster before the card dissipated into a red light before turning into a solid red rainbow that appeared above the dueling area.
(Author's Note: When someone banishes a card in the anime, it either just goes somewhere we don't see, or the card banishing it does something to the card. So I decided to go with the second as it makes for a cool mental image.)
All the applicants in the stands and dueling fields, saw the sudden appearance of a red beam stretching across the arena like a rainbow. Yuuchi, who was going back and forth from watching Yuni and Lori's matches, saw that Yuni was the cause of this.
'Hmmm, Rainbow Reach, a card that could eventually put one of the Rainbow monsters in your hand every turn if it stays on the field long enough. And with the proctor on 800 life points, all Yuni needs to do is find an opening and take the win.' he thought to himself with his hand on his chin again. 'But unless she can get rid of the Zaborg, and who knows what else the proctor might summon, Yuni will be in a rough spot.' For right now, Yuni's match has taken his sole attention, as Lori's match hasn't been going too well on her end anyway.
Yuni, after putting her deck back into her duel disk, continued her turn. "I'll just summon Bountiful Artemis in defense mode, then end my turn." Yuni placed the monster onto the field, making a robotic angel appear, with it using its wings as a shield.
Light | Fairy | Lvl 4 | ATK: 1600 | DEF: 1700
"Don't lose too much steam, rookie. The duel's getting good now." the proctor told her as he drew a new card. "Once again, I have no spells or traps out. So Treeborn Frog gets to come out again!" he says as the winged frog comes back onto the field again. "And just like last time, I'll be tributing it to summon a monster. This time, it's Thestalos the Firestorm Monarch!" the tall, armored monster appeared from a burst of flames. "And now his effect goes off. Whenever he's tribute summoned, I can discard 1 card from your hand randomly. And I'm going to choose the far left one." he said while pointing at the card in Yuni's hand. Yuni frowned at the predicament and discarded her Pot of Avarice to the graveyard.
"Now, Thestalos, attack her Artemis with Dominant Inferno!" he called out as Thestalos created a ball of fire in the palm of his hand before throwing it at Artemis. However, Yuni interrupted this attack.
"Not so fast! I activate my trap card Negate Attack, which does as the name suggests and ends your battle phase!" The trap was flipped up and a vortex came out of the card to swallow up the fireball. "And since I activated a counter trap, I can use Artemis' effect which allows me to draw 1 card." Yuni said before drawing the card: Rainbow Maker Blue.
"Fine then." the proctor said. "Then I'll just set two cards and end my turn." he said while 2 cards into his back row. Yuni drew for her turn and seeing that the card was Prelude to a Rainbow, she was making a plan in her mind that would lead her to victory. "Alright, I summon Rainbow Maker Indigo in defense mode." Yuni said as she placed down her card, making a girl with Indigo colored hair and a kimono float down from the red rainbow above them.
Light | Fairy | Lvl 4 | ATK: 1800 | DEF: 1100
"Now I'll use her effect, which allows me to take 1 fairy type monster in either graveyard and add it to my hand." Yuni's graveyard glows yellow before a card slides out of it. "And I'm choosing my Rainbow Maker Yellow!" she says as she placed the monster in her hand. "And now, I'm going to activate the spell Polymerization!" she exclaimed as she placed the card into her duel disk. "And I'm going to fuse my Rainbow Maker Yellow with the Rainbow Maker Blue that's in my hand to summon-" Yuni starts as both monsters appear on the field before jumping into the air and turning into spheres of their respective colors. The two colors start fusing together, causing a good chunk of the nearby fields to go from being bathed in a blue and yellow glow, to a light green glow.
The now green sphere in the air broke apart, to reveal a long green haired girl, with her hands glowing the same color. She wore a white and green dress, with a brown belt wrapped around her waist, and there was a green aura surrounding her.
"Rainbow Maker Green!" Yuni finished as the monster gracefully dropped down onto the field, making a glowing green shield, as she was put in defense mode.
Light | Fairy | Lvl 6 | ATK: 2100 | DEF: 2600
The proctor smirked at Yuni. "I see. Your plan is to create a wall of monsters to try to slow me down until you can find a way to win. Seeing as how Greenie here has 2600 defense points, my monarchs can't destroy her by battle." he said, shaking his head. "Unfortunately for you, I won't let you get the chance to find what you're looking for!" he yelled before flipping up one of his back row cards. "I activate Raigeki Break! By discarding one card from my hand, I can destroy one card you control. And I choose, you're Rainbow Maker Green!" he explains ending with him pointing at her monster.
The trap card glowed before shooting out a bolt of lightning at Yuni's monster. "Well, unfortunately for you, my Rainbow Maker Indigo makes so that all my other Rainbow Maker monsters can't be destroyed by card effects when she's on the field." Yuni stated calmly as Indigo turned to Green and pointed her glowing hands at Green's shield, making the bolt collide against it harmlessly. Green gave Indigo a smile as Indigo went back to defending with a small smug smile on her face. "And that's not all, because now I'll use Rainbow Maker Green's effect to gain 400 life points for every Rainbow Maker monster I control with a different name." as she said this, Green turned around to Yuni and sent a green beam at Yuni, which raised her life points from 3000 to 3800.
Yuni smiled at this and set her Prelude to a Rainbow trap down. "And, just in case, I'll use Rainbow Reach's effect again to banish a Rainbow Maker monster." she said, showing another Rainbow Maker Yellow to the proctor, before it floated up and became a yellow beam that joined the red rainbow that was above them. "Then as I end my turn, I get to add my banished Rainbow Maker Red to my hand." the dual-colored rainbow above them turned to a solely yellow one, as the red beam came down and turned back into the monster card. Yuni grabbed it from the air with a smile and waited to see what her opponent would do now.
The proctor drew his card and smirked. "I activate the spell card Change of Heart. This lets me take control of one of your monsters until the end of the turn." he said as the angel from the card appeared behind Rainbow Maker Green and took her over to the proctor's side of the field. Green's eyes had glossed over as this happened, and her face became emotionless.
"Oh no!" Yuni said worriedly.
"Oh yes! And I'll change her to attack mode and go to the battle phase!" the proctor retorted. "Now then, Zaborg, get rid of her Artemis!" Zaborg proceeded to launch a few lightning bolts at the monster, making it get shocked before exploding. "Rainbow Maker Green, attack your little friend Indigo!" Green's hands glowed brightly before sending out a green tornado at Indigo, causing a strong wind to whip up. Indigo tried to hold strong but ended up being destroyed and causing an Indigo colored explosion.
Yuni watched as her monsters got destroyed with a look of shock and some fear. "Now Thestalos attack her directly! And to help, I'm going to activate my other trap, Reinforcements! This will give him 500 more attack points for the turn. Now go, Dominant Inferno!" he yelled as his now 2900 attack points monster threw an orb of flames at Yuni, causing her to scream in pain and fall to her knees as her life points dropped down from 3800 to 900. "With that done, I'll end my turn. I hope that wasn't all you had rookie." he said, still smirking. Then, Rainbow Maker Green went back to Yuni's field and looked back at Yuni with a worried and apologetic look on her face.
Yuni slowly stood back up and drew a card, but didn't even glance at it, since she didn't need to. "That was close, and I'll admit I might've underestimated your deck for a moment, but luckily for me, the pieces are still in place." she said with a small smile.
Both the proctor and Yuuchi in the stand were respectively shocked and curious about what she had just said. "Oh really?" the proctor scoffed. "Then prove it rookie!"
Yuni just kept smiling at him. "With pleasure. First, I summon Rainbow Maker Red!" She started as a brown-haired boy with red eyes and glowing red hands dropped down onto the field with a pose, as if he was trying to make himself look cool.
Light | Fairy | Lvl 4 | ATK: 1600 | DEF: 1000
"Now, I'll use Rainbow Maker Green's effect to gain 800 life points." She said as her life points we t up to 1700. "But they won't be here for long, and neither will any of your monsters, because now I activate my trap card!" she said, flipping up her card. "Prelude to a Rainbow! I can only activate this card if I control two or more Rainbow Maker monsters, but then, it lets me destroy all monsters on the field, including mine!" Yuni said as dark storm clouds appeared in the air above them and a heavy downpour followed, making all the monsters on the field get destroyed.
Then right after, the rain stopped and the clouds parted, revealing a full 7 colored rainbow going from one end of the arena to the other. Yuni looked up at the rainbow with a smile, and the proctor could've sworn that for a small moment, he saw a small look of sadness and nostalgia on her face.
Yuni then looked back at the proctor across the puddle ridden field. "And now, I activate my last facedown." she said calmly as she flipped over her other trap card. "Spirits Fusion. This card at the cost of 1000 life points, allows me to Fusion Summon a monster by banishing the fusion materials from my graveyard, but the monster is destroyed during the End Phase." she explained as her life points went back down to 700. "And this time I'll use Rainbow Maker Yellow to fuse him with Rainbow Maker Red to summon-" we see the 2 monsters appear, and just like they saw earlier, the 2 monsters turned into spheres of their respective colors and started merging together while in the air.
We then see the sphere turn orange before breaking apart in a way that resembles a fire spreading. In the sphere's place, was an orange haired boy wearing a kimono of the same color, and he was exuding an orange aura around his body. "Rainbow Maker Orange!" Yuni finished. Orange dropped down to the ground in front of Yuni, and stared down the proctor, who was feeling a little intimidated by the orange eyed boy.

"And now, since you have nothing to defend yourself with, I'll attack you directly with Rainbow Maker Orange! Go, Bright Burner!" Yuni commanded. Orange raised one hand with his palm facing the proctor before firing out a big orange beam that engulfed the proctor.
"Aaahhh!" he screamed as his life points dropped to 0.
As the duel ended, the puddles on the floor, the rainbow in the arena, and Rainbow Maker Orange all faded away. "Phew, that was a close one. Thank you for the duel sir." Yuni said while giving him her trademark smile.
The proctor walked up to Yuni while taking off his duel disk. "Not bad rookie. You're still a little wet behind the ears, but not bad at all." he complimented as Yuni turned her duel disk off. "I'd give it…a 6.5 out of 10. But that's good enough for now. Allow me to be the first to welcome you to Duel Academy!" he said while putting his hand out for a handshake.
Yuni smiled wide and shook his hand excitedly. "Really?! Thank you very much sir!" Yuni said. The proctor just smiled before walking away back to his side of the field, and Yuni quickly went back to the circular platform that brought her up onto the field and was lowered back down to allow her to leave.
...
Yuni was walking back to the stands, a big smile still on her face. 'I can't wait to tell Mom when I get home! I'm gonna be just like her.' she thought as she grabbed the orange pacifier around her neck.
YEEEEEAAAAAAHHHHH!
Yuni jumped at the sudden loud scream accompanied by what sounded like a guitar riff before looking around quickly to find the source of it, but not seeing anything other than the nearby applicants also looking confused and some scared. Yuni, after freezing in place from the scream, eventually resumed her walk up the stairs. She saw that Yuuchi was still sitting where he was when she left and went over to him.
"Hey Yuuchi." she greeted before looking at the duel fields and realizing that he had a view of the field she was just at. She turned back to him and asked, "So, what did you think of my duel?" as she sat down.
"It w-was a close d-duel, and I think you have a r-really interesting deck. G-good job winning." Yuuchi stuttered while rubbing his ears in pain from the loud noise that had happened moments ago. "It s-seems that there are a l-lot of people using f-fusion decks today." he said to her while waving a hand at the people around them.
Yuni briefly looked around at the people before turning back to the stuttering boy. "Well, thank you." she said, giving him a smile, but he turned away from her quickly before she saw him blushing again. "Oh, by the way, is Lori still dueling?" she asked as she started looking around all the duel fields trying to see if she could find her new friend.
Just as Yuuchi was about to answer her, they heard the sound of some cheers, and turned to the stairs, where shortly after Lori came out from the tunnel and dashed up the stairs. "YUNI! YUYUUCHI! I DID IT, I WON!" she screamed before even getting to them. Yuni smiled wide and waved at Lori, while Yuuchi just covered his still recovering ears from the loud girl's assault on them.
"That's great Lori, congratulations. Like I said, we'd both be going to the academy." Yuni said as Lori ran up to her. Lori smiled more before grabbing Yuni's hands and pulling her up on her feet just to spin the two of them around quickly with happiness.
"I'm so happy! We're going to Duel Academy!" Lori yelled as she kept spinning the two of them in a circle. Yuni just nodded in agreement as she was starting to get dizzy.
Suddenly Lori stopped spinning and let go of Yuni's hands, leaving the girl to spin a little more as she tried to regain her equilibrium. "Oh! What about you Yuyuuchi? Did you get to duel yet?" she asked the boy who was still covering his ears.
"Hmm? O-oh yeah, I had m-my duel before you g-guys got here. I already s-secured my spot in the academy." he said looking away from her eyes with an almost unnoticeable smile on his face. Lori cheered and quickly ran over to him to try to spin him around like she did with Yuni, but Yuuchi being even quicker, moved out of seat to dodge her attempt, leaving her bent over the now empty seat. "N-no thank you, I'm f-fine celebrating it by m-myself." he said as Lori pushed herself up and pouted at him. "Hmph, fine then party pooper." she said before turning back to Yuni.
"Oh! Yuni, did you see the rainbow that appeared? It was so cool and pretty." she exclaimed while pointed at the ceiling. Yuni giggled a little and said, "Well I'm glad you thought the rainbow my deck made was pretty." as she patted her deck box that was attached to her pants.
"That was you?! Now I gotta know what your deck is! It already sounds cool like mine." Lori exclaimed with stars in her eyes. Yuni nodded, as Yuuchi slowly moved back to his seat while saying to himself, "At least Y-Yuni's deck is quiet l-like her, unlike a certain loud p-person."
Yuni, who heard this, glanced back at him for a second before coming to a realization. "Wait. So, was that loud scream from your duel, Lori?" she asked the hyperactive girl. Lori puffed out her chest in confidence as she placed her hands on her waist. "Yup! My deck rocks, doesn't it?" she said with a smug smile. "I-it's loud, is w-what it is." Yuuchi answered, making Lori laugh. "I know right! It's so cool." she said without a care in the world.
Yuni just smiled as she watched the two. "You know, I think school is going to be fun with the two of you." she said sincerely to them, making them both look at her a little surprised. Lori quickly smiled widely at her while Yuuchi looked away nervously while rubbing the back of his head.
"Yeah! Let's do our best to make this school year be awesome!" Lori said as she put her hand out with her palm facing the ground. Yuni, seeing this, stepped closer to her before placing her hand on top of Lori's. Then the both of them turned to look at Yuuchi, who was glancing at them in the corner of his eye.
He stood there for a moment getting more nervous as the two girls stared at him, saying nothing. "Umm..f-fine." he said before walking over and placing his hand on top, making the two girls smile at him and causing him to blush and turn his head away from them.
Yuni was excited to start her journey to become a pro duelist, especially now with these two. She didn't need her clairvoyance to know that the three of them would become good friends and even better duelists while at the academy, and she couldn't wait.
End of chapter 1.
Author's Notes:
1) I noticed how in other Yugioh crossovers, some people will do a "The main character won a contest which let Pegasus make them a custom one-of-a-kind deck" thing. Let me just say that even though I made custom cards for Yuni to use in this series, it is not a custom-made deck in their world.
2) I plan on making a custom archetype for Lori as well, but Yuuchi will have a deck that was made sometime during the GX era. I'm not 100% sure on what yet, but I have one in mind.
3) Even though we didn't see or hear about Jaden or anyone else from GX in this chapter, this story does take place in the world of the anime, during the time he joins the academy. Don't worry, we will see them soon.
4) Even though this takes place in the GX anime, I will make some changes if I think it'll help the story (Ex. The applicants are doing the written exam on the same day of the test duels and Yuni having Spirits Fusion which is a card from the GX manga). I'll do my best to not make unnecessary changes though.
5) The Rainbow Maker Cards are available to use on The link to just view the cards is this: Duelingbook - Deck
Anyway, thank you for reading this long chapter, and if you have any helpful criticism or writing tips (especially for the duels) then leave a comment.
