"Anything so far?"

Kevin had expected the question since he'd felt her eyes on his back, watching his every move as he scanned one database after the next, implementing filters here and there in hopes of narrowing down their killer in the vast network that summed up his computer's capabilities.

Despite their witnesses' reasonably accurate description of the vehicle, his search still came back with over 2,000 potential hits in the greater New York area alone, which didn't include any vehicles that could have been brought in from other states, rentals, visitors, the works.

The daunting task of finding the right owner was made worse by the delay of receiving the composite sketch after the family had demanded to see their daughter first before getting to work on a drawing. The viewing in turn had taken a lot longer as the parents were forced to say goodbye to their only child after the unexpected death, the entire process a heart-wrenching mess due to the condition of the body.

With little to show for in forms of progress, he felt the anxiety rise within, hating every minute they were sitting here and waiting for more information to trickle in, thus allowing their killer to get ahead even farther.

"Oh, we have a lot…of data.", he sighed, trying to hide his disheartened feelings about the situation, "Had a lot of information come back but narrowing it down will be the hard part. Some of the vehicles are registered to young men matching our description, but so many more are registered to women, or older males. There's no telling if the driver is the owner or just a relative. That also doesn't take into account a dozen or so that have been registered stolen over the past 12 months."

"Let's just worry about working with what we have…", Beckett replied evenly, trying to soothe his taxed senses by squeezing his shoulder amicably, "Start with the ones owned by young men fitting our killer's description and hold off on the others until we get the drawing. I am going to check in with the next of kin of our other victims, see if they recall seeing the car hanging around before the girls went missing."

With a final squeeze, she straightened back out and returned to her desk, leaving him to stare at the screen filled with names and VIN numbers, hoping to find the needle in the haystack soon.

Hopefully very soon.
