A/N: This chapter has more "flashback conversations". Part of the reason I wanted to write this story was because I was curious to think of how Bella and Edward, and the rest of the family, would explain their history to Renesmee one day. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Renesmee's POV

I rounded the corner on the science building and leaned against the brick wall, closing my eyes and focusing on my breathing. No more dark thoughts. I am here. Mom and Dad are great and happy and in love. Repeating that a few times helped calm my mind and center me back on a happier track to continue my day. I opened my eyes, zeroing in on the empty lot across the way, which sparked more of the conversation with my parents.

"Okay, so, Dad came back and you two made the cutest lab partners and fell in love?" I was imagining "happily ever after" pages like I'd seen in my favorite fairy tale books. Mom playfully glared at Dad while he grimaced.

"Not exactly," he hesitated to explain. Before he could go on, we heard little footsteps running up to our house. We all froze for a moment and I waited for my parents to assess the threat. Once Dad heard the newcomer's thoughts, he groaned. "Oh lovely, I guess I wasn't a good enough story teller for her."

As he spoke, our company glided inside and found herself a seat at our table.

"No, you were going to gloss over everything and tell the bare minimum. Our sweet Renesmee deserves to hear every bit!" She reached over to snuggle me close.

"Aunt Alice!" I was ecstatic to see her, especially as she seemed ready to join our story telling.

"Alice, I would love to hear your version of the events." Mom gave a "go ahead" motion with her hand, looking fairly eager herself.

"Well, Renesmee first you need to understand that your father was the king of angst, the ultimate brooder of the Cullen family, basically until the day your mom became a vampire. Some of the worst of it came in those early days when they first met." I couldn't help but giggle. While my dad was not that way now, I could totally see it. He's always so serious. Dad tried to speak up and argue but Mom cut him off.

"Edward, don't waste your breath. I loved every bit of you from the beginning, but I would describe you the same way." He proceeded to pout but allowed Aunt Alice to continue.

"Great, glad we're all on the same page. Anyhoo, the day after Edward came back, there was almost an awful accident. It was the peak of the winter season; snow and ice everywhere. We had just gotten to school and I had a vision of Bella being hit by a car that lost control on the ice. It was so sudden, the only way to save her was for your dad to run across the lot and pull her out of the way. Thankfully, everyone was fine. But, it caused some ruckus amongst the family; fighting over if we should move, if Edward had exposed us, if we had to take," she paused awkwardly. "Other action. But I wasn't worried. That was the first day I had a vision of your parents falling in love." My little heart soared at that, while Mom gasped aloud.

"You did?" She looked lovingly at Dad. "Why didn't you tell me?"

"Unfortunately love, that wasn't all she saw that day." Dad admitted, looking ashamed.

"Alright, technically, I saw pathways where you died or became a vampire as well. But, the love! The family couldn't believe it, our sweet Eddie boy in love after all this time. I started brainstorming wedding plans right away." Typical Alice. I've seen her party planning skills in action for my birthdays, she goes all out always.

"But Mr. Stubborn over here wasn't having it," she punched Dad's shoulder. "Iced our poor girl out for weeks! I could've wrung his neck; he snarled up the pretty future I'd seen. Until finally, finally he broke and talked to her again. And now here we are." Aunt Alice looked ridiculously smug. Dad rolled his eyes at her.

"Okay, but why did you finally talk to her again? What broke you?" Surprising me and Aunt Alice, Mom erupted in a fit of laughter.

"I guess I never asked that question," Alice waited eagerly for their explanation. Eventually, Dad spoke up.

"I was jealous," he shrugged and leaned over to kiss the top of Mom's head.

I laughed, coming out of my thoughts. My spirits lifted to keep exploring. I peered in other building's windows, without the usual school year setup, other rooms looked generic enough to be home to Math or English or any other subject. Soaking up the campus, I felt flutters of excitement for my turn to join my family in high school this next time around.

I continued down the sidewalk headed to the last building on the property, notably different from the others. I realized immediately, it was the gym. Seeing this building brought Uncle Emmett's voice to my mind. I lost track of how many stories he told me about having to participate in human Gym Class; all the times he had to hold back his strength or ability to blend in. I was glad that was one area I wouldn't have to worry about as much as the rest of the family.

I started to slowly walk back to the car, still letting my mind wander. I wasn't sure why I loved reminiscing on my parents' past so much. Was it because I would soon be going to high school? Was it to better understand my mother's human life? Or was it because of how desperately I one day wanted a love like theirs?

If I was being honest with myself, it was heavily due to that final point. Although, knowing more about my human mother also sparked my interest. She hated talking about herself, so I usually had to hear stories from the rest of the family.

"Tell me about my mom, when she was human." I was spending an afternoon with my aunts and uncles, my parents away hunting for the weekend. Immediately, Uncle Emmett cackled at my request.

"Well first off, she was a total klutz." I was shocked, especially as the rest of the room slowly nodded their agreement. "Couldn't walk more than a handful of steps at a time before tripping. Hurt herself more ways than I can count, although being around vampires all the time didn't help that part." Soon the whole room was laughing, each of them throwing in a random moment of Mom's lack of grace.

"And when she'd get embarrassed, everyone knew. Didn't even need my extra abilities," Uncle Jasper explained. "She would blush bright red, from her neck all the way through her cheeks."

"She had zero fashion sense," Aunt Alice grumbled. "Argued every time I wanted to improve her wardrobe. And hated when we spent any money on her. Your dad had to trick her into going to Prom and I thought she was going to kill us all." At that point, Alice dashed away and brought back a picture of that night. I stared in awe at Mom—human, slightly less pale, face less defined, shy even in pictures, and Dad—completely unchanged, smiling together at their Junior Prom. I started to tear up, clutching the picture tight to my chest.

Alice, Emmett, and Jasper continued to reminisce on a few other moments of Mom's human quirks; her stubbornness seemed to be a common theme. Finally Rosalie, who had been sitting quietly, spoke up.

"Human or Vampire, that girl has always fought for who she loves." She looked directly at me, looking as though she'd be crying if it were possible. I couldn't agree more, my mom, the ultimate fighter and she fought her hardest for me.

I was back at the Volvo now, dabbing at the corners of my eyes. Gosh, I missed my mom so much I would run straight to her if I could. But I can't, not today. Today, I have a date to get ready for.
