Bloodline II - Caballero Family

An offshoot of the Guerrero Bloodline from long, long ago and that managed to survive to the modern day. The Caballero family came to be as its members mingled with nobility, high and low, through the ages, always placed in dangerous posts and commonly dying in defense of their subjects or in the name of the church. With more readily available resources than their original bloodline, at least when it came to the public life and eye, they were tasked not with the more bloody part of any conflict, at least not directly, but as previously mentioned, they were always in dangerous situations and deaths were far from uncommon.

And because it was direct combat that the Caballero engaged in far more than they were originally meant to, the Caballero line was bred for size, muscle and brutality far beyond the Guerrero, generally tempered by a more sociable and noble background and purpose. As such the Caballero, or Knight in English, bloodline was meant to serve as commanders and, as their name indicates, knights of incredible power. It was perhaps this particular breeding that would, down the line, be a problem, as such combinations tended to be for the Order.

Much more trustworthy than the Guerrero that first spawned them after the bloodline was cursed, the Caballero, originally separated from their cousins, was made to mingle with them from time to time. This connected the blood very rarely, every few generations or so, to ensure no contamination. As such, and thanks to a greater degree of individuality, the Caballero very slowly, but ever so steadily, connected with the commoners more than the church or fellow nobles and lords… Though it was not until very recent times that such friendships have seen the Caballero in a much darker light for The Order.

The original plan was also a means to an end that few but the highest positions of The Order knew, to make sure that, in case something happened, the Caballero would be there to lend aid. What The Order expected to happen is unknown, but their close ties to their cousins may prove an ordeal to the many surviving Caballero now that complete annihilation was the result of no further aid or pressure on the Guerrero meant their disappearance from the living world.

Mario Caballero, a representative within the story of Ouroboros, is a prime example. As leaders of men and nobles tasked with the betterment of their fellow mortals until times changed and they opted not to get into politics despite their background, the bloodline has seen their faith in The Order shaken. With Heaven's minimal intervention on Earth and The Order's focus being on demons with nefarious desires on Earth, the Caballero found both sides' little faith in modern humanity to be condemnable if nothing else.

As of now it is unknown what The Order's stance on the Caballero bloodline is, but considering their ties to the Guerrero, it is safe to assume their standing has decreased as of late. Mario's fall to Hell alongside his two children and members of the same bloodline has surely not helped matters.
