STAR TREK
"Foolish but Noble"
The Tholians were constantly on the run as they had only recently made their claim to the galaxy. They began building many ships.
Harenda opened his eyes, "How did I get here? I thought there was no more than this cave."
"Come with us," Tholians said using blades to free him from hanging upside down.
He hit his head on the cave floor, "Hey, watch it now. I would like to not lose my head over this."
"Hey, what are you doing?" the other Tholians heard as their eyes were shut.
"Nothing. Harenda here has passed school," the two guards said. "Keep studying, you guys."
It was a birth. A Tholian was being born. He would crawl, at first. Then he stood up to float out the cave. The cave held many others.
"Harenda, let me show you the light," it was said to him. "It is an inverted world of great beauty. If you look up, a small star sits directly above us."
"Good," he smiled. "I can see that. They told me I had a mission in school. What do I have to do?"
They smiled back, "You must first climb that mountain. It will tell you what gender you are."
"I must ask, what is this big place?" Harenda said brushing off the two guards.
They responded, "This is your home planet. It's called Tholia. It is the only world we have."
"Tell me more," the Tholian named Harenda asked them. "Is there such a thing as aliens?"
"Just climb up that mountain," they replied as they returned to guarding the cave.
The young Tholian climbed and climbed. Once he got to the top of the mountain, he would find a communicator. It said, "You have no gender."
"Great," he said sarcastically to himself as he stood up. "How am I going to justify my existence?"
He looked up to see a starship. His eyes widened open at the massive vessel. He found the way he was going to live, "Wow, that's nice."
Only in his dreams did he see the stars. It was time to find out if they really existed. Many others were there.
"Yo!" he cried. "Can I join you, friends?!"
"How old are you!" they replied. The men were working off in the distance.
"About thirty minutes old!" he told them. He slipped and almost shattered an arm doing so.
"Come on down!" it was yelled to the Tholian who was beginning his life in the Holdfast.
As he floated up to them, he had questions. But, first, he had to tell his new friends his name, "This starship is nice. My name is Harenda."
"If you could stop working for a second, what's her name?" Harenda asked of the men.
They looked up to their star to say, "Its name is Stalwart. I hope you like law, sir."
"Why?" he inquired. "I mean, in school I was a fan of law. But can't this ship do more?"
"Well, it's a patrol corvette used to defend space," it was said to him. "Do you wish to be a crewman?"
He nodded, "May I see the bridge? I hope that someday I might become a leader."
"Let's go there right now," a technician said to the new crewman. They entered a turbolift. In a matter of seconds, they were on deck one.
"Cool, the Stalwart is quite nice."
As other technicians worked around him, his host asked, "Would you like the center seat?"
"Yes," he said without hesitation. "Is this the seat of the leader of this fine ship?"
He sat down. Then the Tholian showing him these things noted, "Usually, a crewman is too coward to sit down so quickly."
He continued, "Would you like to be the captain of this ship and fire at aliens?"
"I thought we had a captain already," Harenda said. It was very important that he make that clear.
"Actually, no one has had the bravery to claim the captain's chair," another informed him.
He stood up to float to the intercom. He said, "I am taking command of this ship. I am Harenda. It is time to look for trouble somewhere out there."
The second officer started, "Everyone to their stations. Let's find some adventure."
In space, he had fun. The space doors of Tholia scared him, though. After he played it off, a mission to defend Tholia would save many lives.
The End
