Kylo's swings were growing sluggish, but that didn't stop him from putting the pressure on Luke. Luke battered each of his swings to the side with ease, despite the both of them breathing fairly heavily from their quarrel. The difference between them, however, was experience. Kylo swung down hard but Luke sidestepped him, causing him to stumble. "Anger may make for a sufficient power source temporarily, but it's ultimately a detriment in the long term." He lectured. Kylo snarled, then used the force to grab one of the fallen knights' weapons and sent it flying at Luke, who battered the weapon away. Kylo grabbed the rest and sent them soaring through the air, following the first, keeping Luke occupied while Kylo recovered his bearings. "I have waited too long, lost too much, come too far, to lose here to the likes of you!" he seethed as Luke fended off the incoming weaponry. He deflected four more incoming blades before using the force to bring the weapons to the ground, halting them there. Kylo, now revitalized, charged forth with renewed enthusiasm. Luke matched him with underhanded slashes that eventually ended in a saber lock. "My power is absolute! The vow I made that day still holds true; I will burn asunder everything you hold dear!" he bellowed in rage. Luke stared through the helm that was meant to imitate his own father's darkness. "No, you won't." he stated sternly. Luke forced the brunt of his saber forward, forcing Kylo's back into his helmet, fracturing it. He yelped in surprise as he was thrown back. He hit the ground with a thud. He groaned and removed the ruins of his helm from his head, revealing that his eyes were shining with the sickly light of the dark side. He rose to his feet and charged Luke once more. He dragged his blade along the ground and arrived with an upwards strike which Luke dodged. He followed with two strikes to Luke's flanks, both of which he blocked. "You won't. Because everything I hold dear, you do as well." he said. Kylo aimed for Luke's neck and then his legs, both of which he blocked. Kylo forced Luke's saber to spin outward to try and disarm him, but Luke maintained the grip on his weapon, and redirected the momentum into a stab, which Kylo deflected outward. He then slammed his saber into Luke's with all of his might, clashing the two. Luke held fast against the onslaught. "Only look at what Han's death has done to you. One only need look in your eyes, you are in conflict!" he said. Kylo gritted his teeth as he pushed his blade towards Luke's throat. In response, Luke grabbed Kylo's tri-saber, and to counter, Kylo grabbed Luke's saber. The two wrestled around, vying for control over the deadlock, sabers whirling around in the air, still clashing. Kylo forced the sabers toward Luke's head. Luke was strong both in the force and with his cybernetic hand, but Kylo's rage was fueling him, driving him forward. Luke maneuvered his saber to the tri-saber's hilt, looking to destroy the blade and end the stalemate. However, the cross-guard made the attempt an impossibility. Luke thought for a moment of a way around this obstacle. As Kylo was gaining ground, he thought of a solution, and reluctantly put it into motion. Luke forced his saber into Kylo's cross-guard, pushing through and destroying the tri-saber, and right through the boy's hand, severing it clean off. He howled in pain and keeled over, grasping where his right hand used to be.

Luke sheathed his saber and caught his breath, spent from the lengthy battle he just won, Kylo was on the floor grimacing in pain. Luke regarded the boy. "I'm sorry Ben, but you left me with little choice." Luke said softly. Kylo glared up at him. "Do not call me that! Ben Solo is dead! He was weak! Too weak to stop that abomination! Too weak to protect his friends, his life, and too weak for trusting you!" he accused angrily. Luke's composure remained stern. "Ben I-" Kylo cut him off. "NO! If you hadn't created that monster, all of those people never would have…" he trailed off. The pain on Kylo's face grew. Luke's expression softened. "I told you that wasn't-" Kylo cut him off again. "Wasn't what?! She took dozens of innocent lives and nearly destroyed the planet itself! Yavin IV is a graveyard wasteland! She was a danger to the entire galaxy, and still is!" he bellowed. Luke grew stern again. "Ben..." he cautioned. Kylo continued on. "And even after everything she did, everyone she killed, everything she destroyed, you let her go! You let her off scot-free while the rest of us were left to pick up the pieces. You cared more about her than you ever did about any of us! This is all. Your. FAULT!" he shouted. Luke had heard enough. "I KNOW!" he shouted back. Kylo's eyes, while still fuming with hate, turned to confusion, the admittance had caught him off guard. Luke lowered his head. "I couldn't see what she was becoming. It was right in front of me, I was blinded by my own foolish pride. You were right, I was a prideful parent. I failed her, but she needn't pay for my mistakes. She deserved a second chance." he said. Kylo's breathing was slowing. Luke continued on. "You had every right to be angry with me... but aligning with Snoke? Embracing the dark side and becoming a part of The First Order? That wouldn't've healed the pain, merely redirect it." he said. Kylo thought on his words. He shook his head. "No... the Supreme Leader is wise. He's taught me how to harness my power." he said in an almost rehearsed manner. Luke stared him down. "He may have taught you knowledge, but I ask you, to what end? Has he gifted you this wisdom for your sake, or his own?" he asked. Kylo's eyes wandered, He knew the words held some truth to them. "He needs... he wants me to... to rule the galaxy by his side." he trailed off. Luke stepped forward slightly. "He's using you as a means to an end. He just wants you as a puppet to do his bidding, much like The Emperor with my own father." he said. Kylo's eyes widened, his thoughts shot back to his grandfather's words to him. "No...no, I... he needs me…" he stuttered out. The hatred left his eyes. Luke knelt down beside him. "Search your feelings if you must. Do you truly believe he cares for you?" he asked softly. Kylo thought back to his master's indifference towards his failure in his trial. He knew Skywalker's words to be true. Tears began to form in Ben's eyes. "No... no... that's not... I'm not..." he tried to muster out. Ben Solo began to cry. Luke gently embraced him. Ben whimpered into his chest. "No... no... I... no... dad..." he muttered. Luke slowly caressed the back of his head with his left hand. All the anger, violence, and bitterness of the years passed washing away.

Out of the corner of his eye, Luke spotted a shade of blue. His father was watching them from afar. Anakin simply smiled, nodded, and turned, before vanishing.
