CanZeaWales: Dragon's Hoard

William smiled at the two males sleeping peacefully in the bed, and he knew that the two of them had been hoping that he would join them. But William didn't require as much sleep as they did, and he preferred to watch them. To protect them.

Never had he imagined that he would have a human lover, let alone two. But Fletcher and Matthew had broken through his rough exterior. They had gotten him to care about them. And he would do anything for them.

William was a dragon, and centuries ago had gone into hiding to avoid the hunt that had all but caused his entire race to go extinct. For centuries, he had held a distrust for humans. These two resting in the bed had been the first in what seemed like an eternity to make him trust them. And that had made him love them.

William had accumulated a lot of wealth over the centuries. He had protected it jealously for so long. But he would give it all up, just to see them smile.

Both of them had grown up overshadowed by boisterous brothers. Both had also been the scapegoats for both their brothers. Both were quiet and reserved, though Fletcher was more daring than Matthew. Fletcher had fought back in school. Matthew hadn't. Fletcher had sometimes fought for Matthew.

The two of them had bonded in high school, nursing each other's wounds. It was only natural that the two of them would come together.

William had met them sometime later, on one of the few occasions that he ventured out. They were being mugged by a group of thugs. And yet, the two had fought back as best they could. William had stared for a while before grudgingly deciding to help. Even though he no longer looked like a dragon, he still retained his strength.

And the smiles they had given him when it was over… The brightest jewels in his hoard paled in comparison.

Matthew had sprained his ankle, while Fletcher had a possible concussion. Instead of taking them to the hospital, William had offered to take them to his home.

They had been surprised by his wealth, but William didn't see greed in their eyes. Because other than the opulent home, they could see that he was utterly alone.

To thank him, the two would often come and deliver some food or something, or would simply come to save him from loneliness. He was guarded, at first, but had come to wish for their company.

He wasn't sure at which point he had started to fall in love with them, but he had fallen in love with both of them. And when he had told them, to his great surprise, they were each harbouring feelings of affection towards him, and the more time they spent together, the stronger those feelings became.

In a moment of foolishness, he had revealed his true identity to them. But instead of horror, they had reacted with wonder. They had stroked his scales and he tingled at their touch.

They hadn't seen his true form, but a sort of halfway form between his true form and his disguise. And they still loved him.

He wondered if they knew how much he treasured them. And if they knew that if anyone should threaten them, he would protect them. He would guard them jealously.

The prompt was: 'Person A is actually a dragon who loves and treasures person B (and C) so much that they consider them their hoard. As such, person A is extremely protective of person B (and C).'

This is actually not a request, but one of my own OT3s. I wrote this ages ago, when I was having a block with the requests. I completely forgot about it until the other day when I was searching for the chapter I was supposed to upload and noticed it. And after seeing that I hadn't actually posted this one yet… Well, here you go.
