A/N: This one shot is more on the hurt/comfort side.
"Ow!" Gwen whined. "Easy with the acid!"
"Your stab wound needs urgent treating, not gentle brushing", Ami scowled while treating Gwen's injury.
"I can recover, I've got self-healing abilities ya know".
"You said that an hour ago and only the cuts are gone but not where you were stabbed". Ami replied. She couldn't believe how reckless the spider was when she fought criminals. Superhero fights were painful physically most of the time, but that didn't excuse how brash Ghost Spider was when fighting the Enforcers. The confidence this blonde American has was always something that got her aroused, but lately, she was getting careless in defense during her battles.
"Pretty suspicious about how you are near me whenever you come to San Francisco", Gwen smirked.
"I think you mean 'lucky'. You're pretty lucky I was in the area", Ami took out items for surgical stitching. "I think you should be more careful, I doubt you have luck as a superpower".
Gwen chuckled but winced. "Man do I hate it when injury keeps me from laughing". Gwen hissed at the feeling of needle and string going through her skin. "Ami…it's kinda odd and out of character for me to be so okay in asking someone else for help".
The Kumiho looked up at Gwen in surprise at this confession. "…I know the feeling. Gwen, I don't know why but talking to you makes me forget about… self-isolation".
Gwen and Ami just stared heavily, as if they were scanning each other. For Ami, it felt so terrifyingly satisfying to be friends with another superhero who understands her biggest issues. This blonde girl just makes her want to blurt out all her secrets and treat her like her lifeline. She could talk to her for hours without being cautiously aloof. Every quip she says is so hilarious and cute, not to mention her struggles were so understanding. It angered her that their friends and families didn't understand their trauma.
Gwen can just relax around Ami, she has earned her trust. Usually, she hesitates to reveal more than half of who she is, but Ami makes her want to spill her entire life story. It makes her feel like Ami can effortlessly break down her walls. She couldn't figure out why or what was making her trust this white-haired fox girl with her life.
"And done, go take a shower to wash the bloodstains on your skin". As Ami stood up, Gwen grabbed her hand. "Is something wrong?'.
"Yes—I mean no! I was just wondering if…".
"I could join you in the shower?"
"What?! N—no! I wasn't going to ask that! I was going to ask if you have anywhere you need to be…right now…".
"No, not really. The N.I.S. told me I'm not needed for their new assignment". Ami smiled at Gwen's awkward nervous movements. She looked at the fox.
"So…you can sleep…here—but I understand if you feel uncomfortable—"
Ami blushed at this, some of the men she seduced had asked her to stay with them but they were just targets on her undercover missions.
"I don't feel uncomfortable with you. Besides, I was planning on asking if I could stay here for the night".
Gwen's eyes widened with joy, she couldn't have been any more pink-faced than at this moment. Ami sat by the blonde and looked at her with warmth.
"Gwen…you are the first person I've met who truly understands me, and you make me feel like I'm not facing my issues alone".
"You…are the first and so far the only person who accepted more than half of me. You're the biggest reason why I love coming to this dimension. And…I love how terrifying that feels".
Ami and Gwen blushed at their confessions. It was confusing and a huge relief to let out these issues. This trust couldn't be just platonic.
Gwen felt like this moment was the perfect time to make a move, that could be her biggest desire or her biggest mistake that could ruin their friendship. If she loses this friendship then she will feel even more broken than she already has since…
When Gwen faced her head to Ami for direct contact, she just felt like everything around her was as silent as outer space. Each heartbeat felt faster than a millisecond.
Ami knew what was happening, so she cautiously leaned forward. Was she going to regret this? Hardly.
The feeling of soft, lips barely pressed against another pair. Ami asked in the sweetest, requested softness.
"Can I?"
For the first time since becoming a superhero, Gwen acted on impulse. No analyzing, just went with the moment as she pressed her lips slightly harder so she could taste Ami's lipstick. It was weird to kiss someone she wanted to kiss. Kissing Miles or Harry felt like an obligation. That she was forced to reciprocate. This fox humanoid being though, she was feeling like being lifted. Along with a sense of danger and adrenaline. This brought feelings that were the opposite of the tragedy of her name. This was…happiness.
Ami had never thought of how worth the wait it was to kiss Ghost Spider. Suppressing her urges to take the blonde was like being in the Darkhold. The kiss started light and tender, but the fear of ending this ecstasy made it last longer.
Finally parting, Ami and Gwen were catching their breath. Ami opened her eyes to see Gwen looking back at her, pouring tears like a dam had burst open. "Gwen I—I'm sorry—"
"I'll go wash before the blood cuts are dry", Gwen spoke. She stood up and walked to the bathroom. As she closed the door behind her and leaned against it, she started crying. This was such blissful and heartwarming confusion. Was this the right thing? Will this ruin her friendship? And more importantly…
Was Ami someone she deserved to have in her heart?
