A voice in his head brings him back to reality; it was the whispering voice of a child, but it wasn't familiar to him, at all;
"Wake up. You can still get out of this."
When he came to his senses, Rick realized that he barely had ten percent energy left, and that his wife's voice could be heard a few meters away from him.
He knew something was wrong with that voice; it had an almost imperceptible robotic effect.
-The children are looking for you...
"Don't listen to it. It's trying to use your senses against you. Look, there's a secret entrance behind the lockers that are right behind you."
Despite the interlocutor's good intentions, Rick hesitated.
"Why should I trust you?"
Despite the loud laughter of children, the footsteps of another person were heard, heading towards the office.
"I know you have more than enough reasons not to, but you have my word when I tell you that you will get out of here, if you follow my voice."
This only left him confused.
"Okay, I think I've lost my mind."
"I assure you that I am very real."
Three percent.
The imposter was about to enter the office.
Rick completely freed himself from the restraints of the armchair and began to observe the right hallway, where his wife's voice came from.
And he saw it; The impostor had the appearance of his wife's rotting corpse, with a forced smile that showed rotting teeth. He was slowly approaching Rick.
The horror he felt at the sight of it made him retreat.
"No..."
While Rick was paralyzed by the sight of such a gruesome scene, the imposter was about to enter the office.
With his heart about to explode with panic, Rick decided that the best thing he could do was to listen to the new tenant in his head, by pushing the lockers behind the couch.
And suddenly, when the imposter was in the door frame, the door latch activated on its own, damaging it. It didn't take long for it to produce cries of pain.
After moving the lockers completely away, Rick turned around to observe the scene.
It was confusing.
"What the-?"
It tried to resist the force of the door, trying to get up. Its screams intermittently went from organic to robotic.
But it was in vain, and the door ended up destroying it, leaving its upper part separated from the lower part.
After this, everything went back to how it was; There were no children's voices, and the place was dirty, as before. And the impostor destroyed his true revealed appearance; It was a tall, robust endoskeleton, with sharp claws and teeth, and expressionless metallic eyes, glowing with an orange glow.
But the strangest thing was the fact that it had what appeared to be "discs" in all of its pieces.
"Go on. Thank me later."
But the impostor was far from giving up; He reactivated and tried to crawl across the ground at full speed with his arms. The damage caused him to change his appearance and voice uncontrollably, showing aberrant shapes, faces and voices that Rick recognized, and others that he did not.
Zero percent.
The lights began to flicker for only about two seconds, and then left the office completely dark, extinguishing the hum of the bulb.
Again, Rick turned on his flashlight and ran through the entrance he uncovered, without looking back.
The entrance was connected to a long, dark, concrete-walled, poorly maintained hallway.
With the impostor hot on his heels, he arrived in another room, also dark. The voice gave him advice again.
"Quick, press the switch to your right!"
Rick had a hard time finding him, but he saw it, slamming the door shut.
And he almost didn't make it.
