Anniversary-Doo
It was a special day for Mystery Inc. Today marked twenty years since they became a team and to celebrate the special occasion the gang were having a private party at Fred and Daphne's house.
It wouldn't be anything fancy, just the five of them spending the evening together.
Velma, Shaggy and Scooby arrived at five o'clock, each with a bag around their shoulder. She knocked on the door. Fred opened the door.
"Hello, Fred." They said.
"Hey, guys. Just in time." Fred greeted.
"Evening Daphne," Velma called.
"Hello, Velma. Glad you could make it." Daphne hugged her best friend.
"I won't have missed this for the world."
"So Fred, what's the plan for dinner?" Shaggy asked.
"You'll have to wait and see." He teased.
"Ran re rave a rint."
"Sorry guys, I don't want to ruin the surprise."
They moaned in disappointment making the others chuckle.
"I can't believe it's been twenty years already," Velma stated.
"Seems like it was only yesterday when we solved the case of the Black Knight," Daphne reminisced.
"Yeah." Shaggy signed. "Remember how he said, "I would have gotten away with too, if it wasn't for you meddling kids."
"I sure do," Fred said. "I'm just glad they stopped calling us that."
"Same. I wished they would have done it sooner." Daphne stated, remembering how they were still being called meddling kids even in their twenties. The last time they were called that was when Velma, the youngest, was twenty-five and that was seven years ago.
"Those were the days," Shaggy said.
"Rhen re rere roung." Scooby signed.
"And look at us now. In our thirties, still doing what we love." Velma said.
"You can say that again," Daphne said, looking lovingly at her husband. Ten years ago, Fred finally popped the question to her and the two had been happily married with their kid, Henrietta Blake Jones who was at her friend's house for a sleepover.
"By the way, how's the bookshop doing?" Fred asked.
"It's doing well, Rick has been handling things swimmingly," Velma explained. Rick was a man she had met during one of their cases a few years ago. After the mystery had been solved, the two of them started hanging out which led to them dating, until Rick proposed to her two years ago.
"So, Daphne what's first on the party list," Shaggy asked.
"That's easy, an evening swim."
"Well, what are we waiting for?" Fred stated.
They left the living room and went to get changed, the boys in one room and the girls in another.
Shaggy was the first in the outside swimming pool, wearing baggy green swimming shorts. Velma joined him shortly, wearing an orange one-piece with a beachball in her hands.
Fred, in a pair of revealing blue swimming trunks, came outside with Daphne, who was wearing a revealing purple bikini.
"On three," Daphne commanded.
"One, two, THREE!" They counted before jumping in simultaneously. When they surfaced, Daphne playfully splashed her husband. Fred chuckled then playfully splashed her.
They spent the next hour swimming around and playing volleyball with Fred and Daphne winning three to one.
"Great game," Shaggy said. "Now how about dinner?"
"Reah, rinner?" Scooby licked his lips.
"Ok, Shaggy, we can have dinner." Daphne giggled.
"Great, because that game sure did build up an appetite."
They laugh as they get out of the pool. Scooby shook himself dry while the others used their towels.
They sat at the table, now in their regular clothing, eating their meal.
"This great Daphne." Shaggy complimented.
"Thanks, it's my grandmother's secret recipe."
"Say, how is she?" Velma asked.
"She's doing great. We were chatting the other day."
"About what?"
"Funny enough, about Mystery Inc's anniversary." Fred chimed in.
"Really?"
"Yep. She lent me her recipe for the occasion." Daphne explained.
"Well, tell her that Scoob and I said thanks for the great chow," Shaggy stated.
"Reah, reat rhow." Scooby howled.
"We will," Fred reassured.
After their meal, they played charades in the living room with a drink. It was Velma's turn.
"Book." Daphne guessed correctly.
Velma held up four fingers.
"Four words," Fred said.
She held one finger.
"First word."
She put her hands together.
"Pray?" Shaggy called out.
She shook her head.
"God."
Wrong again.
"Lord," Daphne said earning a nod.
"Rord rf rhe rings," Scooby stated.
"Lord of the Flies," Fred called.
"Correct," Velma said.
"Your turn Freddy," Daphne said, kissing him on the cheek for good luck.
Fred got off the sofa and began to do the motion for rolling a camera.
"Movie," Velma said.
He nodded then held out three fingers.
"Three words."
He held out two fingers."
"Second word," Shaggy said.
Fred made his fingers look like claws and made mute roars.
"The Lion King." Daphne cried.
"Got it in one," Fred said.
"Man, how are you able to guess that so quickly?" Shaggy asked.
"I just know my husband too well." She shrugged before taking a sip of her wine.
"Are you sure he didn't tell you?" Velma teased.
"Why would I need to?" Fred said. "Like she said, she knows me too well." He kissed his wife on her cheek.
"Lovebirds." Velma chuckled.
"Alright, your turn Daphne."
She got up and made the gesture of singing.
"Song," Shaggy said.
She nodded before holding up seven fingers.
"Seven words."
She held up a finger.
"First word."
She brought her arms into her chest.
"They Long To Be Close To You," Fred called.
"Correct." She congratulated him.
"Of course he gets it." Velma chuckled. "That was your wedding song after all."
"Naturally. It's her favourite song."
The pleasantries lasted until nine-thirty. Velma and Shaggy gathered their things before saying their goodbyes with Scooby to their hosts.
"Thanks for a wonderful evening guys," Velma said, hugging her best friend.
"Yeah, it's been great," Shaggy added.
"You're welcome. Thanks for coming." Fred said as Daphne and Velma ended their hug.
"See you guys soon," Daphne said.
"Bye," Velma called as she, Shaggy and Scooby headed off for home. Fred closed the door before he and Daphne went to clean up.
The couple lay in bed together. Daphne snuggled in closer to her husband.
"I don't know about you, I think this evening went perfectly," Fred stated.
"It did." Daphne agreed before her facial expression turned sly.
"What are you thinking." He asked with an equally sly smirk.
"Oh, nothing. It's just that we're alone now." She reached over and turned off the light before he pulled over the covers.
