Brand New Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Book 1
Here is the next chapter of my crossover story of 'BNA: Brand New Animal' and 'Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles'. I do hope you enjoy it.
Chapter 1: Unexpected encounters
It had been seven months since the turtles had stopped the Kraang invasion. New York had bounced back and was rebuilt back to its formal self. In those months, the Hamato brothers had healed, and their bond with each other had grown stronger. The brothers had also grown to be a little more mature when it came to stopping crime within New York City. Yet the brothers were still the fun loving and rambunctious teens who loved to spend time with one another. They had also added a new member into their clan as well. Casey Jones. A boy who had come from a war torn future. He had help the turtle brothers save the world from being conquered by the Kraang. It took a while for Casey to get used to being in the present timeline, but thanks to the turtle brothers and April, he was able get the hang of living in New York. As for April, she was growing into her own when it came to being a journalist. Especially when it comes to protecting the environment from people who would destroy it. In their time of healing, the Hamato clan was glad to have some days where they can relax together. And not have to worry about any more disasters befalling their city. Along with not having to encounter anymore strange occurrences in the process. Unfortunately, some times things don't always go as planned.
It was on this particular night that the turtle brothers' lives will change once again. It was during this evening that the brothers were spending time relaxing. And by relaxing; I mean that they were racing through the sewers on Donnie's four new hover boards. They were using the hover boards to play their own version of dodgeball. The brothers' shouts and cheering echoed throughout the sewers as they threw a dodgeball at each.
"Take that!" shouted Mikey as he threw the ball at his older brother, Raph.
"Nice try Mikey!" yelled Raph as he dodged his little brother's attack.
Donnie let out a yelp as he ducked before the dodgeball could hit his head. Leo chuckled as he flew behind his twin and caught the ball. The softshell then turned to glare at Mikey.
"Watch where you're throwing that thing! I thought we were clear about the rule of not throwing the dodgeball in the face!"
"Oh, sorry Donnie! I can't hear you with a dodgeball flying into your face!" exclaimed Leo as he threw the ball at his twin.
Donnie let out a yelp as he dodged out of the way. The dodgeball was caught by Raph, who was preparing to throw the ball again when he was interrupted by a loud bang. That sound caused the four turtle brothers to stop in their tracks.
"Boom-shakalaka, what was that!?" exclaimed Mikey with a shocked expression on his face.
"From the sound of it, it sounded like gun." Donnie answered with frown upon his face.
"Do you think a human could have wandered down here?" asked Leo with a raised eyebrow.
"No way. That totally makes no sense," Raph said with a frown of his own, "why would a human bring a gun down into the sewers?"
Before anyone could speak another loud bang was heard within the sewer tunnels. The Hamato brothers froze at the sound before glancing at each other.
"We'd better check this out." Leo said with a serious expression appearing on his face.
The other three nodded their heads in agreement. They quickly landed their hover boards before jumping off of them. Once they did, the hover boards shrunk down to flat, hand size square discs before they flew into Donnie's battle shell. They also made sure to pack the dodgeball into the battle shell as well. Once that was done, the four brothers took off down the sewer tunnel, heading towards where the sound of the gun had come from.
In the deepest parts of the sewer, we see a shadow streak across the brick wall. The shadow was accompanied by a figure who ran down the concrete walkway. The figure wore a over sized grey hoodie with the hood pulled up over their heads and black baggy sweat pants. The only thing that the person didn't wear were shoes. Their feet were completely bare of any footwear. The person panted as they ran through the sewer before taking a sharp turn down another tunnel. As they did a male voice shouted from the first tunnel.
"She went this way! Hurry, otherwise we'll wind up losing that monster!"
The person quickly pushed their legs to go faster before taking another turn. Unfortunately the new tunnel they had taken had winded up leading them into a dead end, where the tunnel was blocked off by wooden boards. The person stumbled to a halt when they saw that their path had ended. Panting the person placed their hands against the boards. They then turned around when the sound of running feet drew closer. A second later five humans appeared. They consisted of four teenage men and one teenage woman. Each of them held a weapon within their hands. The weapons were a baseball bat with nails hammered into it; a crossbow with an arrow already loaded on it; a police baton; a long range revolver gun; and a hunting knife.
"Well, looks like the freak finally cornered herself." One of the men spoke with a dark smirk on his face. "Guess that means you're luck's run out."
The person responded by fully turning to look at the five humans. As they did the person curled their hands into fists.
"Don't even think about it." The only female of the group said as she pointed her crossbow at the person.
"She's right," spoke the second man as he raised his revolver up. "One wrong move and we'll shoot you right on the spot."
The person let out a low growl after hearing that threat. The first man let out a chuckle as he and his group started walking towards them.
"That's right. Just stay still and maybe we'll end this quickly for you."
The person continued to stand still as the humans slowly closed in on them. But just as the group got close the person surprised them by suddenly leaping upwards. That action caused the group to be stunned by this action for a moment, before the person stepped on the face of the man who held the revolver. The person then used the momentum to spring board off the man, flipped through the air and land behind the humans. Without hesitating the person broke into a run. They heard one of the men let out a curse as they took a sharp turn, and ran down the same tunnel that they had come down a moment ago. The person ran as fast as their legs could carry them. They then risked a look over their shoulder to see if the five humans were still after them. But as they did, the person colliding against something hard. That something let out a grunt that sounded like an 'oof', before the person fell backwards and landed on the ground. The person let out a groan as they slowly lifted themselves up from the concrete floor. Their groan was accompanied by another before a male voice spoke up.
"Yeesh, what's the rush?"
A minute earlier
The Hamato brothers had arrived at their destination. Leo, Raph and Mikey stood around Donnie as their brother brought up the map he had made for the sewer systems.
"Strange, this should be where the sound had come from." Donnie said as he looked at his wrist screen.
"They must have moved on to another part of the sewer." Raph said as with his arms crossed over his plastron. "Which can wind up being a problem for us."
"You're not kidding bro," said Leo as he looked up at his older brother. "If these humans do have guns, then that could mean big trouble for us. Especially for April, Cass and Casey."
At the mention of their human friends, Mikey face took on a worried expression. And he wasn't the only one. Donnie, Raph and Leo were also concerned about the safety of their three friends as well. Even though April, Cass and Casey are able to handle themselves in battles, the though of one of them getting hurt was something the brothers didn't want to see. Especially when it came to people who might have a gun. Just the thought of seeing one of their human friends getting shot was not a pleasant image. Leo quickly shook his head before turning to look at his brothers.
"We should head back to the lair." He said with a serious expression on his face. "If we're facing off against someone this dangerous, then we need to-*oof!*"
Before he could finish what he was saying, Leo suddenly felt something collide into his carapace. The force of the collision caused Leo to fall forward and land on his face. He let out a groan as he slowly picked himself up from the concrete floor. Leo then turned to see what had slammed into him, while speaking in the process.
"Yeesh, what's the rush?" questioned Leo with a frown.
That frown turned into surprise when he saw a human sitting up from the ground a foot away from him. The human had their back turned towards him so he couldn't really see their face. The four brothers tensed when seeing the human in front of them.
"Uh-oh, a human!" exclaimed Mikey nervously.
"Quick, initiate plan H." Raph ordered his brothers.
"I highly doubt that 'plan H' is going to work since we're in the sewer." Donnie said with a frown on his face.
Leo was about to make a quip about what his twin had said before he was interrupted by a female voice.
"He's pretty much right about that. Especially when it comes to meeting someone who isn't exactly human."
The four brothers turned to look at the human in confusion before their eyes widened in surprise. For staring right back at them wasn't the face of a human, but a humanoid face of a canine. Her face was covered in sliver white fur while her ears were tipped sky blue. The canine had long hair which was the same color as her fur, but with a few sky blue and sliver highlights in its strands. It grew down to just past her shoulders. But the most striking feature were her sky blue eyes. They seem to shine within the darkness of the sewer.
The Hamato brothers stared wide eyed at the person in front of them. The canine and four turtles gazed at each other for a moment before Leo decided to break the ice.
"Soooo~ . . . you from Jersey?" asked Leo curiously.
The canine blinked in confusion while Raph, Donnie and Mikey turned to give Leo unamused looks.
"Seriously?" grumbled Raph and he gave his brother an exasperated look. "I thought you're over this whole making 'jokes in serious situations' thing."
"Hey, what can I say? Old habits die hard," said Leo as he gave his older brother a shrug.
Person's (Beast girl's) profile:
I sat on the ground as I stared at the four turtles in front of me in confusion. When I had ran into the first turtle, I'd thought that I had run into another Beastman Hunter. So, I was surprised to see that it wasn't a hunter at all. It was actually another beastman with three more of his kind standing right behind him. I couldn't believe it. There were actually Beastmen living here in this giant city. But I wonder why they were down here in the sewers. Not to mention why they weren't wearing much clothing either.
The only thing they were all wearing were black wrappings on their feet, legs, hands and arms. Black sashes that either went up their shoulders and around their waists, or just around their waists. The only one that seems to be wearing clothing was the larger turtle, but he was mostly wearing black shorts. Another thing they all wore were masked/bandanas that were in different colors. The turtle with two red crescent markings on his face wore a half blue bandana/mask. The larger turtle wore a full red mask/banada on his head. The turtle with the weird black metal shell on his back wore a full purple bandana/mask. Along with some strange looking goggles that sat on top of his head. And the last turtle, the smallest one in the group, wore a orange half mask/bandana.
Yet I was also really curious as to why they all had weapons on them. Two of the weapons that the turtles in blue and purple had are ones I recognized right away. Two double swords and a long wooden staff. But the other two weapons that the turtles in red and orange had were ones that I didn't recognized. They were weapons that I've never seen before.
In situations like this, I would have felt worried about seeing these four turtles possessing weapons. But as I watch them bickering amongst each other, I get the feeling that they didn't seem like the type to kill people on sight. Especially when the turtle in blue mask had asked me that strange question. A question that left me very confused.
'What's a 'Jersey'?' I thought quietly to myself.
I was brought out of my musings when my ears picked up the sound of feet coming towards us. I quickly got up into a crouch as I looked behind me. When I did the Beastmen Hunters appeared from out of the sewer tunnel that I just came from. I let out a snarl as I glared at the approaching humans. My snarling alerted the turtles as they turned to look at me in surprise, but then their attention quickly turned towards the humans.
"Well, would you look at that, more humans," the turtle in the purple bandana/mask said in a sarcastic voice.
"And their armed with weapons." The red bandana turtle said in a tense voice.
The man who held the revolver blinked in surprise when he saw the turtles. But then it quickly changed into a dangerous smirk that I knew all too well.
"Well, now this is a surprise. I'd never thought we'd run into more Beastmen down here in these stinking sewers." The man said with a chuckle.
"Uh . . . Beastmen?" echoed the little turtle in the orange maske/bandana in confusion before pointing to himself. "You mean us?"
"I'm sorry, but we're not . . . whatever you called us." The turtle in the blue mask/bandana said as he stood up from the concrete floor. "Also, you and your friends are pretty much trespassing on our home turf."
The man with the revolver scoffed before he spoke again. "Yeah, right. These sewers don't belong to freaks like you. They belong to the whole city."
"Yes, that's basically true, but we've been living down here our whole lives." The turtle in purple said in a flat voice. "In other words; these sewers are our home. So you and your friends should leave post haste."
"Don't go running your mouth off to us, Beastman!" exclaimed the man with the baseball bat. "After all, you and your friends are in no position to speak to us that way!"
"Funny, cause my brothers and I were about to say the same thing." The larger turtle in red said as he slammed his right fist into the open palm of his left hand. "Especially when it comes to you guys threatening us."
"Just shut up and die already!" yelled the girl as she raised her crossbow and fired an arrow straight at me.
I froze in fear as the arrow shot towards me. I closed my eyes waiting for the pain that was about to come . . . but it never did. Instead, I hear something slicing through the air. A second later the sound of wood clattering on the concrete sewer floor echoed against the sewer walls. I opened my eyes and blinked in surprise when I see the turtle in blue standing before me. He had his two swords drawn and was glaring at the Beastman Hunters before him.
"Okay, I don't know what your deal is, but that's completely over the top." The turtle said in a voice that held a hard edged to it.
"Yeah!" exclaimed the turtle in orange as he and the other two stepped forward. "What did she ever do to you?"
"By living, that's what!" yelled the man with the hunting knife. "This city has no used for freaks like her. Nor you for that matter."
"Yeah," said the man with the baseball bat before he ran forward. "It be better if all of your kind just dropped dead!"
The man raised his baseball bat to bash one of the turtles, but the turtle in purple quickly stepped forward, and blocked his attack with his wooden staff. I was then taken by surprise when the turtle in blue, who had quickly sheathed his swords, knelt down and scooped me up from the ground. I let out a yelp of surprise as he and the little turtle in orange jumped back a couple of feet, away from the turmoil that was happening now. The turtle in purple quickly kicked the man in the stomach before smacking the bat out of his hands. The larger turtle then stepped forward, grabbed the man by the shirt, and threw him at his gang members. The man collided with the other members of his ground, who all fell down and crashed onto the concrete pavement. The larger turtle straightened as he glared at the hunters in anger.
"You've just made a big mistake," He said in a hard edged voice. "I hope you and your gang are ready for a butt whooping."
The turtle in blue then gently placed me down onto my feet before speaking to me in a firm voice.
"We'll handle things from here. You go and find a safe place to hide."
My eyes widened in surprise. These turtles were helping me, why? I was a complete stranger to them. Yet I didn't question it, nor did I want to spend time arguing about it either. I wordlessly nodded at the blue turtle before I turned and ran down the tunnel. But I didn't go very far. Once I had turned the corner, I hid behind it in the shadows. I panted for breath as I looked around the corner to watch what was going to happen. The Beastmen Hunters slowly picked themselves up before they turned to glare at the four turtles.
"You four are going to pay for that." The man with the baton said.
"We'll just see about that." The blue turtle said in a low voice.
Things then started to become chaotic after that. I watched as the turtles and Beastmen Hunters fought each other. The turtles were really holding their own against the humans. And despite their best efforts, the Beastmen Hunters were not able to land a single hit on them. Especially the girl with the crossbow. Whenever she tried to shoot one of the turtles, they would always disappear one second then reappear the next. I was surprised by this. This was my first time meeting others of my kind, and I have never seen anyone move that fast in a blink of an eye before. The orange and purple turtles used their weapons against the humans, while the red and blue turtle either kicked or punched them. I watched in amazement before I noticed something. There were only four humans fighting the turtles. What had happened to the one with the revolver? My question was answered when I heard a clicking sound a little ways to the right. I turned my attention towards the sound, and saw the Beastman Hunter pointing his gun at the orange turtle, who was fighting the man with the baton. My eyes widened in horror and before I knew it, I ran out of my hiding place. As I did, I felt a familiar power rush through my body. A split second later my legs shifted into cheetah legs, and I was soon running like a bullet as I headed towards the orange turtle. The sound of the gun being fired was heard throughout the sewer. Luckily I was able to push the turtle out of the way before the bullet could hit his head. And for me to only lose a few strands of my hair as the bullet barely missed me. Unfortunately for the man who wielded the baton, the bullet had hit him though luckily it hit his right shoulder.
The turtle and I rolled across the concrete ground before coming to a stop. The both of us let out a groan as we slowly sat up before looking at each other. The turtle stared at me with a look of surprise upon his face. I smiled at him and was about to say something when I caught sight of the female hunter, pointing her crossbow straight at the turtle. She then shot the arrow without a moments hesitation.
"Look out!" I shouted as I quickly pushed the turtle out of the way.
A second later I felt an intense pain shooting through my body. My body froze as I slowly looked down to see the arrow piercing into the left side of my stomach. For a moment I just stared down at the arrow lodged in my side. Then I began to slowly fall sideways as my vision started to go blurry. For a moment I thought that I would fall and hit my head upon the concrete ground. But my fall was quickly halted when I suddenly felt a strong pair of arms catching me. My vision cleared a little and I saw the face of the blue bandana/mask turtle staring down at me. His face had a serious expression on it, but his eyes held a look of fear, and something else that I can't really place my finger on. My vision began to blur once again as the turtle turned to look at someone behind him.
"We need to get her back to the lair, now!" He shouted in a loud voice before he turned to look down at me again. "Listen, you need to stay awake. We're going to help you."
All I could do was nod my head and tried to do as he told me.
Leo's profile:
Things had happened so fast. One minute; my brothers and I encountered this mutant dog girl. Then the next we started fighting these humans with weapons, who wanted to kill the female mutant. Which was totally not cool by the way. I mean, come on! They wanted to kill that girl just because she existed? That's just screwed up! Anyways, for a while we pretty much had things handled. But that changed when we suddenly heard the sound of a gun being fired off. I quickly turned just in time to see the female mutant push Mikey out of the way before the gun's bullet could hit him. I was a bit surprised by this action. Never in my life have my brothers and I ever encounter a mutant that would risk their life to save one of us from harm. Except Todd of course. For a moment, I was relieved that the mutant had saved my little brother. But that relief was quickly replaced by horror. A split second later, the woman with the crossbow shot an arrow at Mikey. Like before the female mutant pushed him out of the way. Unfortunately, she winded up taking the shot. My eyes widened in shock and horror as I stared at what had happened before me. Seeing that girl taking the shot to save Mikey brought forth a memory that I never wanted to remember. A memory of Raph protecting me from getting stabbed by the Kraang's tentacle, by taking the blow that had fractured the top edge of his shell, and slashing straight through his shoulder. That memory would haunt me throughout my dreams. Along with the other nightmares of what would have happened to my family and friends if we hadn't stopped the Kraang from taking over our world. My horror was quickly replaced by rage as I turned towards the woman with the crossbow.
I drew one of my swords and dashed towards her. The woman, who had just reloaded the crossbow, turned and got ready to fire at me. But I never gave her the chance. I was in front of her before she could even blink. The human let out a gasp of surprise and flinched back. That provided enough of a distraction for me to slash my sword down on the crossbow, slicing it and the arrow into two before kicking the woman hard in the stomach. The woman crashed into the wall and fell down to the ground with a thud. I didn't waste any time after that. I drew my second sword and quickly summoned five portals. All of them appearing underneath the five humans who dared invaded our sewer home. They all let out yelps of surprise as they fell through the portals and disappeared from sight. Once my portals had closed, I sheathed my swords onto my back again. I then turned towards the mutant dog and saw that she was about to fall onto the concrete ground. I quickly dashed forward and caught her. I looked down at her face and for a moment her eyes looked a bit unfocused. But then they slowly turned to look up at me. I quickly turned to look at my brothers before shouting an order at them.
"We need to get her back to the lair, now!"
I then turned my attention back onto the mutant again before speaking to her.
"Listen, you need to stay awake. We're going to help you."
The only response I got from her was a small nod. Raph and Donnie ran up to me, while Mikey crawled towards me with a worried expression upon his face. Raph knelt down before I handed the mutant girl over to him. Once she was safely in his arms I quickly stood up, unsheathed my swords again and created a portal to the medical bay in our lair. We didn't waste any time as we quickly stepped through the portal. I closed the portal once we were in the medical bay, before turning to look at my brothers.
"Raph, place her down on the bed. As gently as you can," I instructed my older brother with a serious expression on my face, "Donnie, grab the medical supplies, and the IV we'll need for the surgery. Mikey, go find Dad and tell him what's going on. We don't want him barging in here while we're in the middle of surgery."
Mikey quickly nodded before running out of the medical bay. Raph gently placed the mutant down on the bed. As he did, the girl let out a weak whimper of pain. Raph looks down at the mutant in concern before he gently patted her head.
"Easy, you're okay," spoke Raph in a gentle voice. "We're going to fix you up. You're in good hands, I promise."
The mutant responded with another whimper, but it was accompanied by a small nod of her head. I placed my swords in the corner of the medical bay before getting myself ready for what I need to do. I grab some ointments from the cupboard, plastic gloves (ones that my twin had made to fit on our three fingered hands), and a mask to cover the bottom half of my face. It wasn't long before Donnie came back with the medical tools that I needed for the surgery. Along with the IV that held the painkilling fluids in it. I walked over to the female mutant and picked up a pair of scissors from the metal tray. I started to cut away the fabric of the mutant's hoodie around the arrow, while making sure that I didn't accidently cut her skin in the process. It was a slow process but I got it done all the same. Once the fabric was cleared away, I got a better look at the wound.
I grimaced slightly at the sight of it. There was blood leaking out and the arrow looked like it had punctured deep into the girl's stomach. This wasn't going to be pretty. Especially when it came to pulling it out. I turned to look at Donnie.
"Donnie, grabbed the scanner." I said in a firm voice.
Donnie nodded before he quickly went to get it. As he did I heard the girl whimper again and turned to look down at her. The female mutant's face was scrunched up in pain. Her lips were pulled back to show her teeth. They were clenched tightly as she breathed harshly through her nose. I also noticed her hands gripping tightly at the mattress's covers. Her claws piercing the fabric slightly in the process. Yeah, can't have her doing that. Don't want any tears within these still new coverings that April had gotten for us two months ago. I gently grasped the girl's left hand. The action caused the mutant to open her eyes slightly to look at me. They held both pain and fear within their depths. I gazed down at her with my eyes softening slightly before speaking to her in a calm voice.
"It's going to be okay. I'm not going to let anything happen to you."
She stared up at me for a moment before her hand slowly unclenched from the mattress covers. She then slowly turned it over to grasp my hand before speaking to me in a soft voice.
"You promise?" she asked in a tone that held both hope and fear in it.
I smiled behind my mask before answering her. "I promise."
The mutant's face slowly relaxed as she smiled up at me. As she did a small tear leaked out from the corner of her right eye. I gently gave her hand a squeeze to give her reassurance. It wasn't long before Donnie came back with the scanner. He quickly used it to scan the area of the arrow and the wound. The girl flinched at the suddenly whirling sound the scanner made, while also tensing up her body slightly in the process.
"Easy, easy, it's okay." I spoke in a soft voice as I rested my hand on top of her head. "We're just scanning you to see what kind of damage the arrow had made to your body."
She relaxed slightly at my words, but I can tell that she was still tense. I decided to keep talking to her to help calm down her nerves.
"By the way, I don't think we've ever got around to introducing ourselves to you back in the sewer. My name is Leonardo Hamato, the handsomest amongst all my brothers." - Donnie let out a groan while Raph only rolled his eyes at me, both in humor and exasperation. - "But you can either call me Leo or Leon for short."
The mutant looked up at me in surprise before smiling at me.
"It's nice to meet you Leo." She said in a soft voice.
I smiled under my mask and was about to ask her what her name was when Donnie suddenly spoke up.
"Alright, the scanning is finished. Now let us see what we're dealing with here."
Raph, Donnie and I turned to look at the medical screen. A moment later we see the damage the arrow had caused. We blinked in surprise when we see that the arrow was barely an inch deep into the canine mutant's body. I looked a bit closer and was relieved to see that the arrow didn't hit anything vital within the girl's body. I also saw that the head of the arrow was bullet shaped instead of it being barbed.
"Okay, that will make pulling the arrow a lot easier." I thought quietly to myself while frowning slightly.
"Still, I'm surprised that the arrow hadn't pierced straight through her body." Donnie said as he gazed at the screen with a thoughtful expression while stroked the bottom of his chin. "Usually the speed and trajectory of the an arrow being fired by a crossbow would cause great damage to its specific target. A shot from that bolt should have killed her instantly."
"Let's not look a gift horse in the mouth Donnie," said Raph said in a serious voice, "We should be glad that the arrow didn't cause any serious damage."
"Maybe so, my dear Raphael," said Donnie as he turned to look at his brother with a serious expression upon his face. "But what I'm most concern about is what will happen after we pull said arrow out."
"We'll quickly apply pressure to the wound so that it doesn't bleed out too much," I said as before turning to the task at hand. "First we need to give our patient the IV painkiller fluid before we start."
Donnie nodded before he began to set up the stand for the IV bag. As he was doing that, I rolled up the left sleeve of the mutant's hoodie. I noticed her tensing slightly and began to talk to her again.
"It's going to be alright. We're just giving you some IV painkillers to help in easing some of the pain you'll feel during the surgery."
The girl still looked a bit nervous before she quietly gulped. A hard expression appeared on her face as she tried to make herself feel a bit brave during the procedure. I gently rubbed her arm to hopefully give her reassurance before I continued. It took a while, but we were able to get the girl hooked up to the IV. It then took a minute or two for the girl to slowly fall right to sleep.
"Alright, now it's time to brake off half of the arrow," I said as I turned to look at my twin, "Donnie, hand me the wire cutter."
Donnie quickly handed me the tool. I nodded my thanks to him before taking the cutters. I then carefully snipped off about half of the arrow. Once that was done, I placed the feathered end of the arrow onto the metal tray, along with the cutters. I then grabbed a small jar that held the healing ointment in it. I opened it and began to gently dab the ointment around the wound, which would also hopefully help in pulling the arrow out easier. Once I finished applying the ointment, I closed the lid of the jar and placed it back onto the metal tray. I then grasped the arrow with my right hand.
"Okay," I said as I turned my gaze onto Raph. "I'm going to pull the arrow out now. Hopefully she'll sleep right through the pain. But just in case, Raph, I want you to hold her down during the procedure, alright?"
Raph nodded before he stood up and placed his large hands gently, yet firmly down on the female mutant's shoulders. I then glanced over at Donnie, who nodded at me with a firm expression on his face. Nodding back, I turned my attention to the task at hand.
"Alright, on three . . . one."
Raph tensed as he got ready to hold the mutant down, in case she woke up and started thrashing about in pain.
"Two . . ."
Donnie bit his bottom lip nervously as he awaited for what would happen next.
"Three!"
And in one quick move, I quickly pulled the arrow head out of the mutant's stomach.
A minute earlier
Mikey was rushing through the lair in search of Splinter. Hoping to find him in his usual place. He was running as fast as a speeding bullet with a look of determination fixated upon his face. Yet that determination turned to surprise as he let out a yelp when he saw Casey Jr and April appearing in his path. The two humans let out exclaimed shouts of surprise when they saw the speeding turtle rushing towards them. Mikey managed to stop himself from colliding into his human friends.
"Whoa! Where's the fire Mikey?" asked April in confusion.
"Sorry, April," said Mikey as he looked up at his adopted older sister, "but I can't talk right now. I need to find dad and tell him not to come into the medical bay for a bit."
"The medical bay?" echoed Casey as he gazed down at the younger turtle in alarm. "Why? Did something happen to Master - I mean Leo and the others?"
"No, but we brought in somebody else who . . ." Mikey paused for a sec before quickly speaking again, "I'll tell you more once we find dad."
"Okay, but you'd better tell us exactly what is going on here little brother," said April in a firm voice.
Mikey nodded before he and the two humans quickly headed to the living room, where Splinter was most likely watching movies. The rat was sitting in his recliner chair as he watched one of his old Lou Jitsu movies, while having milk and cake in the process. It was just getting to the best part in the fighting scene when Mikey quickly slid in front of the screen.
"Dad!" shouted Mikey.
Splinter let out a groan. Don't get him wrong, Splinter loved his sons but sometimes they can be a little overwhelming, even for him. Though he was getting better in spending time with them. It's just that Splinter sometimes wanted to have a day to himself. He quickly paused the movie just as April and Casey Jr entered the room.
"Yes, what is it orange?" asked Splinter in a monotone voice.
"Sorry for interrupting your movie, but I just came to give you a message from Leo!" exclaimed Mikey in a rushed voice.
"And that would be?"
Mikey took a moment to collect himself before he answered his father's question.
"Leo told me, to tell you, to not to enter the medical bay for a while."
Splinter's annoyed expression changed to one of worry when Mikey said the medical bay.
"Did something happen to one of your brothers, my son?" questioned Splinter with concern laced in his voice.
"No, but Leo is preforming surgery right now on this mutant that we just brought home with us." Mikey replied as he explained the situation to both his father and two human friends.
"A mutant?" asked April with a raised eyebrow.
"Yeah. She's actually a new mutant that we came across in the sewers," said Mikey as he turned to look at his adopted older sister. "She was being chased by a group of weird humans, who all had these weapons on them. We then got into a fight with them as we tried to protect her, but she winded up saving my life, twice and got injured in the process."
The two human stared wide eyed at Mikey in surprise when he said that he and his brothers met a mutant, and had encounter a group of hostile humans. Splinter frowned as he took in this information while stroking his chin thoughtfully.
"That is disturbing news," spoke Splinter in a serious voice, "If there are humans out there hunting mutants, then it's best that we keep on our toes."
"Yeah, about that," continued Mikey as a frown appeared on his face. "When we first met those human hunters, they didn't call us mutant but something else."
"Did they call you monsters?" questioned April as a look of anger appeared on her face, "If they did then I'm gonna beat them until they're black and blue."
"No, what they called us was completely different."
"What exactly did they call you Mikey?" asked Casey Jr in a curious voice.
Mikey thought for a moment before finally answering Casey's question. "Those guys called us . . . 'Beastmen' I think."
Different reactions came over the three. For April; her reaction was one of confusion as she had never heard of the word 'Beastmen' before. For Casey; his reaction was that of shock and surprise. And as for Splinter; his reaction was tense and held a bit of fear in it. After a moment of silence April was the one to speak first.
"Beast-what-now?" she asked in a confused voice.
"I don't really know what it means either," replied Mikey with a shrug of his shoulders.
"A Beastman is a being that is neither human nor beast," spoke Splinter with his voice having a hard edge to it. "They anthropomorphic creatures that have lived amongst humans for centuries. Their forms differ from each animal that they are born in."
"Sounds like you know a lot about them," said April as she placed her hands on her hips.
"I have only heard stories about them through my grandfather," explained Splinter as he crossed his arms in front of his chest. "I have never met a beastman face to face before. And if I had then I wouldn't know about it."
"What do you mean?" asked Mikey curiously.
"Unlike Sunita and many other youkai, who use cloaking brooches to conceal themselves from humans, the Beastmen have the ability to hide their true forms by shapeshifting into humans. It makes it easier for them to blend in among the people who live in large cities."
April and Mikey stared at Splinter in amazement before the young turtle frowned when he remembered the human hunters.
"But why would those humans go after that girl just because she's a different? I mean, she doesn't seem to be the type to hurt anyone."
"That is where you are wrong about that my son," said Splinter with a frown. "For even though Beastmen can walk and talk like humans can, they are still beasts and can be very unpredictable. If a human was to ever turn their back on a Beastman, then they would be torn to shreds by them."
"No, you're wrong about that," spoke Casey Jr as a hard look appeared on his face. "Beastmen aren't like what you or everyone else think they are."
April, Mikey and Splinter turned to look at the boy as the rat mutant gave him a hard look, while the other two looked at Casey curiously.
"What do you mean by that CJ?" asked April with a raised eyebrow.
"Because back in my timeline, I've met a couple of Beastmen," replied Casey Jr in a firm voice.
Mikey gasped before an excited expression appeared on his face. "Really? What were they like?"
"Orange," said Splinter in a warning tone.
But the younger turtle ignored his father as Casey Jr answered his question.
"They were like all of the rest of the people who lived within the resistance. Both humans, mutants and youkai alike. They talked, laughed, argued and fought like the rest of us. Like the mutants and youkai, they were quite strong and were resilient when it can to fighting against the Kraang. Yet they were also compassionate and kind like the humans who cared for each other. Especially when it came to protecting me and the rest of the kids within the resistance."
"I highly doubt Beastmen are capable of having emotions like 'compassion'," grumbled Splinter stubbornly.
Casey was about to argue with that when a loud female yelp echoed throughout the lair. Hearing that sound, Splinter quickly jumped from his chair and began to run towards the medical bay.
"Dad, wait!" shouted Mikey as he chased after Splinter.
Casey Jr and April quickly followed after the two, hoping to both stop Splinter from entering the medical bay, and to see the beastman themselves.
Leo was pressing down on the wound with a cloth as the mutant girl let out painful whimpers. When he had pulled the arrow out of the girl's side, her reaction had been just as he predicted. She had jerked slightly while letting out a loud yelp of pain. Luckily she didn't thrash around and try to claw him or Raph in the process. The girl remained perfectly still during the whole procedure. Leo had quickly cleaned out the wound before putting pressure on it to hopefully stave off the bleeding. Luckily the bleeding began to slow down after a moment or two.
"Okay, let's staple this wound close," said Leo as he glanced over at Donnie, "Pass me the stapler Dee."
Donnie quickly passed the stapler over to his twin before Leo proceeded to close the wound. He made sure to not to pinch the skin too tightly where it puckered, but tight enough where the edges just touched. The canine mutant whimpered in pain as Leo stapled the wound close.
"Don't worry, I'm almost done," said Leo as he spoke to the girl.
He had just finished putting in the last staple before the trio heard the sound of rushing footsteps coming towards the bay. Along with the footsteps was Mikey's voice shouting.
"No dad, Wait! You can't go in there right now!"
"Sounds like Mikey wasn't able to prevent Papa from coming to the medical bay," said Donnie with a frown.
"Luckily I'm almost done," spoke Leo before he turned to look at Raph. "You think you can keep dad from entering until I finish wrapping up the girl's wound?"
Raph nodded his head in answer to Leo's question. The big turtle removed his hands from the canine mutant's shoulders before he headed towards the medical bay doors. Raph quickly closed train cart doors behind him before turning to see Mikey, Splinter, April and Casey Junior running up to him. He stood in front of the door as the four stopped in front of them.
"Raphael, what on earth is going on in there!" demanded Splinter urgently.
"Yeah, we heard a loud yelping noise," spoke April as she, Mikey and Casey Jr all held concerned expressions upon their faces, "Is everything okay in there?"
"Don't worry Apes, everything is fine," answered Raph as he held his hands up to calm everyone down. "Leo is just finishing up in there. He just needs to wrap up the girl's wound."
"Is she okay?" asked Mikey in a worried voice.
"She's alright, Mikey. Luckily the IV painkillers that we've given her are helping to dull the pain. It was also lucky that the wound didn't bleeding too much."
"What kind of wound did she obtained?" questioned Casey Jr in a serious voice, "Is it serious?"
Raph hesitated in answering the question, but he knew better than to keep this information from his three family members.
"She was shot by arrow from a crossbow after pushing Mikey out of the way."
April gasped in shocked horror, while Casey's expression was that of uneasiness. Splinter's expression was that of surprise and confusion. Raph quickly eased his older sister and the young teenager of their worries.
"Like I said; the wound didn't bleed too much when Leo pulled out the arrow. She also didn't gain any serious injuries either."
April, Casey and Mikey all let out a sigh of relief after hearing that. As for Splinter, his expression turned serious as he spoke in a hard voice.
"Raphael, did that creature hurt you or your brothers when you three were helping it?"
Raph looked down at his dad in confusion after hearing the tone in his voice.
"No, she squirmed a bit after Leo pulled the arrow out of her, but other than that she didn't do anything else. Why do you ask?"
Splinter was about to reply before the door to the medical bay opened. Everyone turned to see Leo and Donnie walking out. The slider had take off the medical mask inside the cart a moment before stepping out.
"Phew, all done," said Leo with a relieved look on his face. "Donnie and I just finished bandaging her up."
"And luckily not as gruesome as I'd thought it would be," added the softshell before his face grimaced slightly, "Although she does stink a bit."
"Like we don't stink ourselves when it comes to living down here sewers, bro." Leo quipped as he playfully nudged an elbow against his twin's arm.
Donnie glared at Leo and was about to make a retort before Splinter suddenly spoke up.
"I would suggest that you two don't turn your backs towards that creature inside the cart."
The twins looked down at their rat father in confusion before Leo spoke with a smirk on his face.
"I don't think we have to worry about that. From what I can tell, she'll be sleeping for quite a bit. We gave her some IV painkillers before the surgery. Not to mention that I'd get the feeling that she was a bit exhausted after being chased around a lot. It probably caught up to her after she finally saw that she was in a safe place."
Splinter still had an uneasy expression on his face despite his son's calming words. April then walked up to Leo and Donnie with a concerned expression upon her face.
"Leo, just how bad is she?"
Leo gazed down at his older sister with a gentle, yet serious expression on his face.
"Well . . . the good news is that she'll live," his answer caused April, Mikey and Casey Jr to relax slightly before he continued. "The slightly bad news is that it'll take a while for the wound to heal."
"And how long is a 'while'?" questioned April curiously.
Donnie was the one to answer that question as he looked down at the screen of his tech gauntlet.
"From what I can tell; it'll probably take about two to three weeks for her wound to heal. And probably about a month or two before she is back to full strength again."
"Hopefully in that time you can make something to keep that creature contained," spoke Splinter in a firm voice.
Raph, Leo and Donnie stared down at their father with questioning looks upon their faces. It was rare for Splinter to use his serious voice. He only uses it if something has really set him off. Leo was the first to speak as he crossed his arms in front of him.
"Okay, you mind telling us what exactly has gotten your tail all up in a knot, dad? You're never this serious unless something is wrong."
Splinter gave Leo a firm look of disapproval before he answered the slider's question.
"That creature you have in the medical bay is dangerous."
Raph and Donnie gazed at their father in confusion, while Leo let out a scoff as he took on a confident expression.
"Oh, come on dad. We've handled mutants before-"
"That creature is not a mutant, Leonardo," interrupted Splinter his son, "nor are they a youkai. What you have brought into our home is a dangerous beast known as a Beastman."
Leo, Raph and Donnie glanced at each other for a sec before looking back down at their father.
"A beast-what-now?" asked Raph with a raised eyebrow.
"A Beastman," repeated Splinter sternly, "a shape shifting beast that is half-man and half-beast. They can change their form to look human to blend in to society. They are also known to be unpredictable and will attack humans without any warning or reason."
As Splinter said those words, Leo noticed Casey Jr frowning in anger. The slider can only guess that human teen knew something about these Beastmen. He then turned to look down at his father before speaking to him.
"Dad, I don't really understand what you're telling us-"
"Of course you don't," grumbled Splinter as he once again interrupted Leo, "you boys still have much to learn."
Leo frowned at his father in displeasure before he continued, "-but what I do understand is that if it weren't for that girl, Mikey would have been killed today."
Splinter's eyes widened in surprise before frowning in confusion, "what do you mean by that?"
Raph, Leo and Donnie gave each other uneasy looks. April noticed this before placing her hands on her hips as she glared at her three adopted brothers.
"Guys, what are you not telling us?"
Mikey was the one who meekly reply to the question.
"Well, when we were fighting those hunters down in the sewers, one of them had pointed a gun at me. But I was a bit distracted with fighting the other hunter to really notice. I didn't realize what was going on before I heard the gun being fired off, and just before the bullet hit me the, girl tackled me to the ground."
"Did she get hit by the bullet?" asked April in concern.
"No, it only nicked a bit of her hair off," replied Mikey in reassurance.
"Then we are dealing with a cheetah Beastman," grumbled Splinter with a frown upon his face. "No animal is that fast when it comes to out running humans or dodging bullets."
The four turtle brothers became quiet as they cast each other awkward glances. April, Casey Jr and Splinter noticed this as they gave the four Hamato brothers a questioning look. It was Leo who was finally the one to speak.
"Actually . . . it's wasn't a cheetah that saved Mikey from being shot. She's actually a dog."
Splinter stared at his sons in disbelief, "a dog!?"
"Yeah, a dog," repeated Leo with a nod of his head.
"What kind of dog?" questioned April curiously.
"We're not really sure," answered Raph with a shrug, "we didn't really have time to get a good look at her."
"But from what I can tell she looks to be a husky," spoke Donnie as he typed on his tech gauntlet. "Probably a Siberian breed, but I'll have to take a fur and/or blood sample from her to be sure."
Leo gave his twin a look before Splinter spoke up again, his voice still holding a bit of a shock tone to it.
"But how could a dog beastman be that fast to dodge a bullet?"
"That's an interesting question," replied Donnie with a light frown upon his face, "and one that I'm unable to answer at the moment."
"Okay, then explain the second time she saved Mikey," said April with a light frown on her face.
Leo took in a deep breath before he answered April's question. "The girl saved Mikey the second time by pushing him out of the way. Unfortunately she winded up getting struck in the side by an arrow in the process."
"From a crossbow to be more accurate," added Donnie with a frown.
April gasped in horror while Casey Jr and Splinter were shocked by this news.
"But like I said; she'll live," spoke Leo as he quickly reassured the trio.
"Yet how could she have survived that?" questioned Splinter with a frown. "Beastmen are known to be resilient, but not that resilient against human weapons."
"Believe us dad, we're just as confused by this as you," said Raph as he crossed his arms over his chest.
They then heard soft whimper emerge from the medical bay. Leo turned and headed back inside train cart with the others following behind him. The slider walked over to the medical bed to check on the canine girl. Her eyes were still closed but the expression she had on her face was that of discomfort. Leo gently pushed a part the girl's long bangs from her forehead. As he did, he saw a four pointed sky blue star marking.
'Wow, how exactly did I miss that,' thought Leo before he rested his hand on his patient's forehead.
"Shh . . . it's okay," he spoke in a soft voice, "It's all done. You can rest and recuperate now."
The female's ears twitched slightly at hearing Leo's voice before her face relaxed. Leo smiled in relief as his family circled around the bed. Splinter had brought over a stool to stand on so that he could get a better look at the beast-girl. April stood beside Donnie as she gazed down at the canine in fascination.
"Wow, I'd thought her face would be more animal like. But it looks almost human," said April in a gentle voice.
"I must admit that I'm quite surprised at this as well," spoke Splinter as he stared at the beast-girl's face. "I have always heard stories of beastmen having more animalistic features."
"Maybe it's because she's younger?" guessed Mikey curiously.
"That might be the case, Angelo," said Donnie thoughtfully.
As the others were talking, Leo turned to look at Casey, who stood beside him. When he did the slider saw the expression on the boy's face. It was a mixture of surprise, sadness, joy and relief. Leo didn't have to guess that this beast-girl had been someone important in Casey's life. He then gently cleared his throat to gain everyone's attention.
"Okay, our guest needs her rest and we don't want to crowd her. So let's all continue this discuss back in the living room, alright?"
The others quietly agreed and began to make their way out of the medical bay. But not before Donnie took a blood and fur sample from the beast-girl. Leo and Casey hung back as the others made their way towards the living room. Leo quietly closed the medical bay doors behind him. He then turned to look at Casey with a serious expression upon his face.
"I've noticed how you look at that girl in there," spoke Leo in a low voice so that the others wouldn't hear. "I'm guessing she was someone important to you back in your timeline?"
Casey gazed at Leo in surprise before a sad frown appeared on his face.
"Yeah . . . she was. She was one of the beastmen adults that I knew back in the resistance."
Leo raised an eyebrow at what Casey had said before a sly smirk form on his face.
"Was she almost as cool as my future self?"
Casey smiled a little at Leo's teasing voice before he replied to the question.
"She didn't take part in battles very often. Mostly because she wanted to protect me and the other kids in the resistance. When sensei first found her, she had been distrusting and nervous around the adult humans. The only ones she was really able to relax around were the kids, sensei, Master Michelangelo, Uncle Tello and Master Raphael. It took a while for her to warm up to Commander O'Neil, but after that those two became really close friends. Overtime, she became one of the best fighters that we had, and the best caretaker to the kids. She was also able to keep the peace between the humans and other beastmen, who'd joined the resistance before I turned six years old."
"Wow, it sounds like she was one of those hard as nails types of people."
"Most of the time she was, but she was also really kind, and cared about others no matter who they were. Yet some times she was a bit . . . distant. Like she wasn't really sure how to act around people. I'm guessing that something bad must have happened to her a long time ago to be uncomfortable around others."
A thoughtful expression appeared on Leo's face after hearing what Casey told him. Could something have happened to that girl during the Casey's timeline? Or did her distrust towards humans happen before that? Well, the only way to find out was to ask her. Especially about what her name is.
"Thanks for telling me, Casey," said Leo as he gave his human friend a smile. "Hopefully we can get some answers from her once she's recovered from her surgery."
A small smile appeared on Casey's face before he nodded his head in agreement. The two then headed to the living room, where the rest of their family was waiting for them.
To be continued
And here is the second chapter of the story. Just to warn you guys; Splinter will be a little bias towards beastmen throughout the few chapters of the story. But his view on them will slowly change as he slowly gets to know them through my OC. I hope you all enjoy this chapter and leave a review about it.
