Prolouge: Science Flair!

"You ready for this?" Karen asked her friends, green eyes sparkling with determination.

Like, hero-level determination.

Kara's heart skipped a beat as she and Babs grinned. This was going to be awesome! Kara and Barbra helped Karen to pull open one of the two heavy metal doors. They creaked open on aged iron hinges and light poured into the dark hallway.

The sudden splash of light blurred the girls' vision. When the sunspots cleared from their collective view and everything came into focus again, the trio of girls were greeted by a sparkling gold banner embossed with equally bright blue letters:

Sci-Fly! ; County-Wide Science Fair, 33'!

Kara's eyes blinked owlishly as she looked around, suddenly speechless "Wait...wha-?"

This was not an ancient temple, or a secret laboratory. It was an ancient school cafeteria!

In place of the long, brown tables that usually crowded the linoleum floor of the cafeteria were stools, singular tables, platforms, and booths sporting wonderful, wacky, creative, and fascinating inventions, presentations, and projects. Creations of metal and chemical construction, digital and technological feats that seemed to defy imagination were all around them!

Karen's eyes were as large as saucers. Babs squeaked with glee. And Kara…groaned with disappointment.

This was NOT what she had signed up for!
