Nabu Pov:
"It is impossible to destroy Klarion. Everyone was confused that despite being a factor that would be able to stand against the chaos lord's magic, our battle would last for a millennium. The only means of banishing one from a plane of existence is to take away the anchor that allows them to roam the mortal world, having seen much death upon this world I decided to go a different route. I extracted the magic that was channeled into the familiar and back into the witch boy causing him to cease to be and retreat to his dimension. Having handled him and his puppets defeated, all that remained was the woman who allowed the warlock and witch to enter the tower, so Klarion had no means of escape. This shows that there is a chance this world can change for the better if one mortal can change their ways, however. I don't see it possible for her to be forgiven by the other residents of her Earth."
Overseer's Earth-Morning
It was impossible to imagine it, Homelander and the Overseers had been defeated, and their supporters had been arrested by the remnants of the old government that A-Train and the other rebels had concealed from the tyrannical Supes. It made things easy since unlike Homelander who fooled everyone with his promises of looking after the people, Superman along with Wonder Woman and Flash was able to handle the remaining Overseer forces. Right now at City Hall was a detained Sister Sage who was being monitored by Bebop and Rocksteady to make sure she didn't escape or attempt to make a run for it. They were being monitored by Bizarro, Annie, A-Train, Pop-Claw, and Doctor Fate in the company of the other magic users who were questioning what to do with her.
"I still think we should send her ass to another dimension since we have three people who know magic. Or better yet turn her into a statue for pigeons as a new outhouse."
Pop-Claw suggested to the group since there was no chance of her either reforming or trusted since she was responsible for the destruction that Homelander Prime and his group had organized for the last few years. The others would agree with that statement after seeing what the dead Supe had done to this world, there had to be another way for the woman who decided to change out of nowhere and handed them a swift victory against the chaos lord.
"I assume that most of us would be interested in that love, but when we were preparing our best spells to handle the brat. We saw Sage open the door for us and lead us to the captured capes."
Constantine explained how easy it was for them to enter the building and was guided to the room where the others were being captive. The woman was ready to stab him with her claw for suggesting they spare Sage and let her go off doing heaven knows what with her team either being dead or detained. In the Enchantress's place was her host June Moon who decided to take control since this conversation had to be handled by someone who was used to sharing a life with an individual who was impossible to trust and unable to see their next move.
"I think it would be best if someone would look after her. Like a parole officer, they'd monitor her actions and would find a way to make amends for the crimes that she'd committed."
She offered an alternate solution since everyone on this earth would want Sage dead, executed, and other means of punishment she would face by the people who would demand just for what had happened. A-Train was in the same situation with his girlfriend making her face her crimes and pay for the lives he watched killed by the Overseers. However, knowing that there would be someone who could take her away from here would be all the better.
"Who exactly is the one in charge of her? Because I don't think the newlyweds would want her hanging around back home. More or less the other folks that came with you."
He questioned Bizarro about letting Sage live in his world since they would have the security and resources to keep Sage from committing any crimes, the idea however didn't sound right for the others since Cheetah and Maeve would rip her to pieces for having a hand in ruining their wedding. Taking a moment to see where June's offer was pointing, they looked at Doctor Fate who would be Sage's watcher and warden to ensure she'd never interfere in either of their worlds ever again.
"For eons, I have safeguarded numerous realms of potential threats that would cause untold harm across all life. Despite her having no powers, Susan Heyward has the means of destroying it with her genius alone. The tower or fate will help the Supe make amends for her sins, and possibly find a new path for her. But it must be offered, not given."
Nabu spoke through the helmet as the host removed the helmet so Hughie could take over it and be the one to make the offer to Sage. The group saw the ordinary man looking at him to see if he realized what was happening and what he was getting into, looking over at the cuffed woman standing in the middle of the mutant rhinoceros and warthog. Hughie kept his composure before walking to meet the woman and gestured toward the men that he wanted to speak to her alone.
"Nice knowing ya."
Rocksteady replied to Sage not knowing what would happen to her since he heard about the guy's girlfriend being harmed during the wedding attack. Walking away and allowing Hughie to talk with Sage by himself, he brings up a chair where he sits in front of the woman and looks at her dead in the eyes showing no type of sincerity or compassion for suddenly changing sides during the final battle.
"Your teammates put my girlfriend in a coma and almost killed a child. All to help a madman conquer a world that had killed him before having the chance to realize his potential."
Hughie explained to Sage about what she'd been involved in and having hurt someone close to him at the start of this attack. She could see the drama that he's been through to that of him having to take up a position that has cost him his ordinary life. More or less anything she'd say would provoke him into either sending her to a nightmarish realm to that of an isolated island where no one would know where she'd be.
"If it makes it any better, I had a plan for how'd we handle the takeover of your world. We'd isolate the people who would follow us and they'd be spared, the rest would be killed quickly. Unfortunately, with how things were turning out and the witch boy turning Homelander into a weapon. It seemed that there was no chance of ruling this place, only destruction."
Sage informed him that the plan of organizing a new world under authority went down the drain when she realized that Klarion wanted to continue bringing death and chaos across other worlds that were peaceful and stable. Hughie could tell that she meant it alone wanting to keep things under her control, Sage had to realize that idea was thrown out the window after hearing about the stolen power he showed in the arena was a sign that things would get disastrous to the world ending.
"Then what do you think will happen next? Because everyone in the other room wants to flay you alive for the lives you helped ruin. All except for Nabu, who seems interested in keeping you alive and unharmed."
He informed Sage about how one person seemed that she would be important to keep alive for the future if it would acquire her intelligence and perspective when the time came. Taking a look at the helmet seeing that it was more than just another piece of the costume that Hughie was wearing, Sage decided to listen to Nabu's request in keeping her intact and safe from harm.
"Then I would like to hear his input to see what he'd have me do for him."
Responding to Hughie on speaking with him face to helmet in knowing what use she could do for a lord of order. Unsure about it being what she wanted; Hughie obliged in her request and put the helm back on his head where Nabu had taken over the human and took charge of the conversation. Seeing how his eyes changed from questioning to a demanding approach left Sage cautious about what he might have to say about her.
"Susan Heyward. There are many humans and Supes on this Earth that would see your death a thousandfold, much like the others from the other Earth for what you had done to the women's wedding. However, that can be changed."
The sorcerer stated to her as Nabu aimed his right hand near one of the doors where his Ankh symbol appeared. It opens toward the Tower of Fate, it caught Sage's attention as she could see there was more to the path that he was showing than the last several years since her time working with a lord of chaos. Her fascination was cut short as she felt Nabu's glare right on top of her which left Sage to listen to whatever he had to say about this decision to travel to the Tower of Fate.
"If you take this offer, you are to never again walk upon this Earth nor any other. You will be the keeper of the books of Order, for all time. Otherwise, I allow the beings of this world to take their justice and punish you for what has happened."
The ancient entity explained what the catch of his offer was as Sage would be cut off from any interaction with the people she had encountered; she'd be cut out from all worlds and remain in the Tower for all eternity. It was a complicated response since there was nothing left that this world could show her that everyone around her wouldn't take the chance of ending her life in a heartbeat after being with the Overseers. Taking a look in the other room and seeing the looks of doubt that were on the faces of the people she had attempted to kill, Sage looked back at the doorway to a plane of existence that she could never think of with her advanced intelligence.
"Then I guess, I'll be in your service for all time."
She accepted the offer of working for him in his library for a better understanding of the multiverse and the worlds that are around her. Looking over to A-Train and Pop Claw one last time seeing that they were angered with where she was going would be an escape from facing them, Sage knew what she would be facing would be unimaginable and just what she deserved. Stepping through the doorway and closing behind Doctor Fate, the caped sorcerer looked over at the others who were in disbelief at what had happened as he removed his helm which allowed Hughie to take control of himself.
"Not to act rude but I think Nabu's idea is bat shit crazy. Even if she's not going to plot any revenge on this world or ours, letting a woman like her have access to almost everything supernatural."
Annie responded to Hughie by allowing Sage to become the librarian of one of the most mystical lairs across the dimensions of time and space. Hughie nodded at the idea of letting a woman like Sage in the library be dangerous, he looked over at the same door that Sage went through to see another woman making her way out of the doorway. It was Robin, Hughie's girlfriend who had been outfitted in mystical garments and wearing a ring that had the ankh symbol that Nabu used whenever he would use his magic.
"Because she's not going be looked over by not just my boyfriend and Nabu. But a very pissed-off woman who owes her a miserable stay for putting me in the hospital, plus a chance to spend more time with Hughie."
She explained that while everyone was facing off Homelander Prime and the others, Robin had managed to wake up from her unconscious state and would now company Hughie during her stay in the Tower of Fate. The others looked at Constantine and Enchantress to see if this was the right course of action since they didn't ask them if the couple was content with their new living arrangement.
"The human's right. Doctor Fate's home can allow anyone to live a long amount of years and have everything they'll ever want. Except for working with Nabu from time to time."
June told everyone about what they'd be in once the couple would depart from this world and be experiencing away from everyone. Bizarro felt sorry for what he had done to Hughie and Robin for inviting them to the wedding. Noticing the look on his face, Hughie walked over and tapped him on the shoulder to assure him that he was alright with his new occupation.
"I'll be alright big guy. But next time make sure everything is handled before inviting friends over to a special event."
He told Bizarro in being aware of his surroundings whenever there would be another time to be invited to a special occasion, they'd get everything handled before bringing in the guests. The clone nods before giving him a hug for not being mad at him for dragging the pair into their trouble. The couple said their goodbyes to everyone before retreating through the ankh door where they returned to the Tower of Fate to start their duties as agents of order and keeping close watch of Sister Sage. With them leaving and looking over to A-Train and Pop Claw who now looked content with the last member of the Overseers being trapped within another dimension, they heard coughing coming from John who was drinking from his flask to interrupt the touching moment.
"If all are you done crying over the love birds, I think there's another set of birds that need their union handled."
The warlock reminded them about Cheetah and Maeve's wedding which they had to get to by the end of the day. With that statement Superman as well as the rest of the heroes making quick work of any remaining forces that Homelander Prime might have had in the case of his downfall. They could finally have the wedding without any interruptions, and everything was handled in case something else happened.
Later-Supe Earth
Deciding to have the wedding back home and handling the arrangements, Barbara and Maeve were finally able to get married and have a dinner party to celebrate the occasion. Due to the amount of fighting and fixing everyone did back on the Overseer's Earth, they decided to go to have a small dinner at Nubia's house since her home was spacious enough for everyone to have a pleasant meal. There were several tables set up and amongst each group, private conversations were happening amongst the league and party guests.
"You're going with Red Hood and the others?"
Marie asked her friend who was sitting with Arsenal and the others as her friends had been discussing when the dinner was over and everyone heading back to their Earth. Emma would join their team on the other Earth, despite her not deciding to continue a career as a masked superhero or use her powers to fight crime.
"I should have mentioned it to you before but, from how these guys are getting less reputation back in their city. I thought it be right if I helped out in getting them noticed and credited as heroes. Also, me and Roy are a thing."
She explained to her friend about deciding to try something different and see what was out there to experience. Marie and Jordan could see how they had known each other for the last few days, it seemed that the archer had become attached to the girl's shrinking cricket. They heard Sloane letting out a groan to congratulate Emma's choice to join the team as the table raised their glasses for her going with Red Hood and the others back to see what life was like when superheroes had their act together.
"Don't worry. Will make sure she's looked after, much like how I'll teach her the way of the Amazonian warrior."
Artemis told the two as she hugged Emma tightly which made the Supe girl feel her bones crack in the embrace of the redheaded girl, Crimson laughed at how it was the same treatment that she'd received when she'd joined the team along with Black Noir. Across the other table was Clark with the addition of his family, cousins, and their dates as well as Bizarro and Annie who were welcomed at the table after they'd saved Clark.
"It's a surprise that everyone managed to make it out alive without anyone dying. Not that I'm disappointed but glad that everyone is safe and sound, more importantly. Welcoming someone new to the family."
Lois remarks about the times when a friend of hers or the Justice League would have a wedding to celebrate a relationship becoming serious. It would be interrupted, and someone would be taken away from them. Luckily, no one was killed, and everyone was able to make it back in one piece. Each of them around the table shared a smile and relief about it was luck they escaped Homelander Prime and his amassed army of villains of both worlds. More importantly, talking about Starlight in the group as it felt strange to be welcomed in a family that could accept someone like her after the things she'd done in the past.
"If I can be honest. I'm not used to being a part of a family due to my relationship with my parents but for right now. All I want is just to be around people who just want to have one normal afternoon."
She spoke in an honest tone about the issues that have been happening to her and wanted some peace with people who would accept her for what she is. The Kal-El family could see the stress that Annie had been through, they would be happy to help the Supe learn what it was like to spend time with others who have been through difficult moments in their lives. Across the other side of the tables was Manta and his son Kaldur speaking amongst themselves since it was a personal issue that had to be discussed before everyone went home.
"What I'm saying is the truth Kaldur, I want you to take my place in the league while I return with the heroes and pay for my crimes."
Manta told him that after getting his injuries sustained and managing to make it back here in one piece. It made Hyde realize that everyone on the team had changed in the way, all except for himself who remained bitter and frustrated with himself about how to control his anger.
"Now don't think I'm making a big deal about it. It's just that after the Deep has been handled, there's nothing left for me here. Plus, I know you can do better here than I could when trusting others."
He stated that there was leadership in his son despite having followed his archenemy for years after discovering that he had a kid. Seeing how his father was serious about him remaining here and going with the heroes to pay for what he's done, Kaldur remained silent and nodded in accepting the responsibility of helping the Injustice League in keeping this world safeguarded and out of trouble. The guests continued talking amongst themselves until they heard a glass being tapped several times as it came from Diana, who wanted everyone's attention, so they'd focus on the newly married couple.
"While I do enjoy seeing friends and foes talking amongst themselves, a friend of mine has made a speech that she wanted to announce to everyone. As well as to her wife."
The Amazonian Princess announced to the group allowing her friend to make her voice known for everyone to hear. Barbara did her best to not smile since it felt special to see Diana with her as a friend then an enemy like in the past. With her taking a seat amongst the others, Cheetah stood up from her table with a drink in her head as she looked hesitant about what she would say to everyone.
"When I first transformed into the Cheetah. I thought my old life was gone, that Barbara Ann Minerva had no reason to continue living after what had happened to her. However, having been through tragic moments in my life and having done things I've thought seemed impossible to forget. I've had a chance to start anew, with someone who's been through much ordeal as I had. For better or worse, I'm both the same woman that Diana met years ago to the huntress that Maeve had met. And I will not forget how they each have made me the woman I am today."
Cheetah finished her speech about how drastically her life had become to where there was no sight of being her old self. Yet still, she didn't think of going to another world where she'd meet someone who had so much struggle within themselves to the point it would destroy them. Maeve could tell that Barbara meant every word that she had said about thinking there was a way for her to start a new life, though now she could with someone who was able to keep up with her. While it was a touching moment to see Cheetah open up, it was ruined by Maeve going up and playfully hugging her it left everyone to laugh at the sight of the redheads becoming an official couple and having no issue messing around with one another.
"Alright, everyone! With that out of the way, let's get to the real food!"
Harley announced as she and her crew were coming out of the house with several plates of cooked meals and salad which made everyone cheer at them needing something to fill their stomachs. Everyone went over to accept the meals and enjoy the rest of the celebration amongst themselves, except for Constantine and June Moon who watched the party going off peacefully and seeing no signs of any trouble happening.
"I think your girlfriend might want to show up because I think we're going need her for another uninvited guest."
John informed June as the two looked behind the fence where they saw a white skin girl with black hair sitting on the bench and having a plate of the same meal that everyone else was having. Stepping out as quietly as possible to avoid being noticed, June shifted into the Enchantress as the witch was able to recognize the girl as one of the Endless, Death herself.
"For most of my family, food is nothing that doesn't satisfy us nor fill us with any emotion. As for myself? I can taste the emotion and feeling the people put into them. I find it quite amazing."
She explained that despite not needing food due to her unnatural physiology and power. The Endless enjoyed the taste of what humanity makes whenever they cook their meals as it made her smile at the joy they put it them. Neither Constantine nor the witch found it amusing since they had been through much after learning what would happen if a Lord of Chaos had the opportunity to manipulate a world and weaponize it to invade others.
"Cut the malarky and give it to us straight. Having Nabu taking a bloke like Hughie helps keep this world safe and the rest? Because I doubt that even your book of destiny can accept an army of mad bastards like Homelander taking a chance to make themselves known across the multiverse."
The warlock questioned her if it could happen again and could be prevented by someone who knows Supe and has someone who can encounter them as Sister Sage could. Death took a moment to stop eating as she looked upwards at the sky to look at the stars, realizing that she was trying to be dramatic. The two decide to sit next to the entity and join in on the stargazing.
"There are many worlds across space as there are souls. Each of them has a story that wants to be heard by people as old as I am, much like the Enchantress when she learned about June's story. The book doesn't guide people to their stories, they make them. And the book records it so that it can be shared with the entities and gods that desire such lives. And Hughie Campbell? He'll keep things organized and in control."
Answering his question on the human having control on the matter since it would take someone with a story that nobody knows about to make one that will catch everyone's attention. Which would be the man who was given the duty of looking after the multiple earths around them and keeping them from being manipulated. While her words were sentimental and confident that Hughie would be able to handle it, the Enchantress knew that wouldn't be the case since there weren't happy endings for the lives they had lived. Just endings where everyone would have to continue keeping things the way they are before something else changes. Though for the time being and taking a chance to enjoy the moment that her friends were partaking, the witch decided to let the Endless girl have her say and enjoy watching the night sky. Along with seeing a couple that nobody imagines being together would become something unpredictable and beautiful at the same time. Much the world the Injustice League was protecting, an Earth unlike any other.
Comments are welcome to be answered. Apologies for taking a long time to finish the story, it was challenging to bring everyone together. Harley Quinn and the Outlaws will return in the winter along with the Injustice League next year. Until then, see you soon!
