Chapter 1: A New Threat?

Taichi was in school and was with his club practicing for their match. Taichi moved forward and kicked the ball, causing it to be sent flying into the goal. Taichi had a smile and looked excited, while the rest of his teammates looked tired. They went for a water break. Taichi finished drinking his water and looked ready to continue.

Taichi: "Alright guys, ready for more?"

Teammate: "Aren't you tired..? Let's just take a break…"

Taichi sighed and sat down on the ground.

Taichi: "Alright alright."

"Oh well, I can't get too carried away. All that running in the Digital World made us way more fit than normal. I shouldn't expect my teammates to have stamina like ours."

Taichi looked over and saw a small figure approaching him. He had a confused look on his face as he stood up and walked over to the figure.

Taichi: "Hikari? What are you doing here?"

Hikari gave a bright smile as she held up a bento in her hands.

Hikari: "You forgot your lunch."

Taichi: "Oh, thanks, Hikari."

Hikari: "Don't worry, you can treat me to some ice cream later."

Taichi had a small smile and chuckled.

Taichi: "Alright, alright. What do you want?"

Hikari went close to Taichi's ear and began to whisper.

Hikari: "I don't know. I'll let you decide. It's been a while since I've had some ice cream in this world."

Taichi ruffled her hair before turning back to his teammates… all of whom suddenly seemed to be much more energetic and doing stretches.

Taichi had an exasperated face before turning to Hikari for a moment.

Taichi: "Be careful of them. I've told them you have a boyfriend already, but they just won't give up."

Hikari giggled.

Hikari: "Don't worry. Takeru is the only one for me. Besides, I'm strong enough to handle myself."

Taichi sighed.

Taichi: "Just be careful, alright?"

Taichi placed his lunch with his belongings and ran off to continue practicing with his team, as Hikari went off to the school grounds.

After practice, Taichi went over to the school grounds as well and saw Yamato passing something to Sora. Taichi walked over to them.

Taichi: "Hey guys."

Sora: "Hi, Taichi."

Taichi looked at the ticket.

Taichi: "Am I… interrupting something?"

Yamato: "Ah, no I'm just inviting Sora to come watch my band play."

Taichi: "Oh, when is it?"

Yamato: "This Sunday, wanna come?"

Taichi: "Sunday?"

Taichi was about to give his response when a hand lightly tapped him on the back of his head.

Voice: "Yagami. Did you bring it yet?"

Taichi turned around and saw his teacher, Daigo Nishijima.

Taichi: "Ah, Mr Nishijima, no I… didn't bring it today."

Daigo looked disappointed.

Daigo: "What? You're the only one left to hand it in! Seriously… meet me in my office during lunch time."

Daigo walked off to his office, leaving Yamato and Sora confused.

Sora: "What was that?"

Taichi: "My career planning form, I haven't handed it in yet."

At that response, Yamato and Sora looked even more confused.

Yamato: "Huh?"

Taichi: "Don't look confused. You know why I can't fill in my true response for that form."

Sora: "True… but you could at least put something related to it."

Taichi: "Don't worry about me, I'll… figure it out."

Yamato and Sora gave each other a look and dropped the topic. The trio went off to their classes.

Hikari reached her locker and was grabbing some of her materials for the day.

"Let's see, today I'll need…"

Hikari finished grabbing her materials and was about to leave when she felt a chilling feeling. She turned around sharply and saw a familiar face.

Hikari: "Oh, h-hello Daisuke."

Daisuke: "You seem nervous."

Hikari: "Ah, don't worry. It's just because we're in a new school now."

Daisuke: "Is that so?"

"Something feels off…"

Hikari began to focus.

"Takeru, can you come to my locker? I need your help."

"Hika? What's wrong? I'm on my way."

Hikari gave a smile and reassured Daisuke.

Hikari: "Yeah, don't worry too much."

Daisuke: "Are you sure? You don't seem alright."

Hikari didn't know why but she knew something was wrong.

"I sense darkness..."

Hikari began to focus again.

"Keru, hurry!"

Takeru was grabbing stuff from his locker.

"New school year… I hope I can get along with everyone. Well, even if I can't, at least Hikari and Daisuke are in the same class as me."

Suddenly, Takeru felt a voice in his head.

"Takeru, can you come to my locker? I need your help."

Takeru had a confused face but quickly responded. He began to run towards the direction of Hikari's locker.

"Hika? What's wrong? I'm on my way."

Takeru was running but he soon heard another message.

"Keru, hurry!"

Takeru took a swift glance around, seeing very few students, he began to speed up a little. Soon, he turned the corner and saw Hikari, with Daisuke next to her. Takeru flinched as he suddenly felt uneasy as well. Hikari noticed him and waved.

Takeru waved back and walked towards the two. Daisuke noticed Takeru and for a second, it almost looked like he had a scowl before turning to Takeru with a smile.

Daisuke: "Hey, since you're here, let's go to class together."

Takeru went over to Hikari and gave her a smile before turning to Daisuke.

Takeru: "Sure."

Daisuke went in front of the two and they all began to walk to their class. Takeru put his hand on Hikari's back reassuringly.

"You're feeling it too, right Hika?"

"Yeah… it's why I called you over."

"Right. He… there's something off about him. He doesn't feel… it doesn't feel like he is Daisuke."

"Could it… could it be related to that weird dream we had?"

"I'm not sure…"

"Onii-Chan said he also had a weird dream, but I couldn't ask him about it. Did you manage to ask Yamato?"

"No. I haven't seen him around yet. Besides, they're in a different section of the school. It's unlikely we'll see them here often."

Hikari nodded and they all continued to walk towards their class.

The school day had gone on without much event, and Taichi was currently sitting at a table eating the lunch his mom prepared for him.

Soon, he was joined by Yamato who held a ticket out to him.

Yamato: "Mr Nishijima interrupted us just now, you wanna come?"

Taichi took the ticket and looked at it for a moment.

Taichi: "Right, you said Sunday… sorry I can't make it. I have a match on that day."

Yamato: "Alright."

Taichi passed the ticket back and continued to eat. Yamato sat down and looked at the other side of the table.

Yamato: "Can you pass over the pepper?"

Taichi: "Sure. Hey, your band is still the Teenage Wolves, right?"

Yamato took the pepper from Taichi and began to shake it into his food.

Yamato: "Yeah, although we're probably going to change the name soon."

Taichi: "True, the name won't really fit soon."

Yamato and Taichi continued to eat their food in relative silence. Soon enough, Taichi finished his food and stood to leave.

Taichi: "Alright, I need to meet Mr Nishijima."

Yamato: "Alright. Seriously though, at least put something down in that form."

Taichi: "Yeah yeah I know."

Taichi began to walk towards his teacher's office and sighed before he knocked on it.

Voice: "Come in."

Taichi entered and saw Daigo sitting down, doing calligraphy. Daigo motioned to him to take a seat. Taichi sat down and sighed.

Daigo: "So, what's your plan, Yagami? I'm certain you have something in mind."

Taichi: "My future, huh?"

"Yeah, as if I can say what I really want to do in the future."

Daigo looked at Taichi and had a small smile.

Daigo: "I get it. You do have something in mind. But you just can't put it down, can you? Society wouldn't accept it?"

Taichi flinched back a little and his hand brushed against his Digivice, which was hidden by his uniform. Taichi began to look a little nervous.

Daigo: "I hit the nail on the head, huh?"

Taichi: "Y-Yeah."

"Does he know? But we hid it so well. There's no way. Ms Himekawa is making sure our identities aren't found out."

Daigo saw Taichi's face, which looked natural, yet had a faint trace of panic. Daigo smiled and pointed to one of his papers, which simply said 'Dream'.

Daigo: "Dream big, boy! Follow your own dreams. Don't just stop because something is hard, or others say you can't."

Taichi seemed to calm down and gave Daigo an appreciative look.

Taichi: "Thanks Mr Nishijima."

"Yeah... he was just giving general advice... theres no way he would know..."

Daigo: "Alright, now go and put it into your form. I'm expecting it by tomorrow."

Taichi thanked his teacher again before leaving the room.

Daigo pulled back his jacket and pulled out a small device, he began to speak in a soft whisper.

Daigo: "I'm counting on you, boy... to make this world a better place. Heh, even if you can't achieve this goal, at least you have your experiences to help you with other aspects of your life."

Taichi was leaving school and saw a figure by a tree. Taichi walked over to the figure and called out.

Taichi: "Hey, Koushiro."

Koushiro: "Ah, hello Taichi."

They exchanged pleasantries before speaking in much quieter voices.

Taichi: "So, any progress?"

Koushiro: "None. I still don't know what's causing the blackouts."

Taichi sighed.

Taichi: "At this rate, maybe it's just some random malfunction and not a Digimon attack."

Koushiro: "I doubt it."

Taichi: "Anyways, I have a game on Sunday, wanna come?"

Koushiro: "Ah, sorry I can't."

Taichi: "You know, one day of rest won't hurt much."

Koushiro: "I know. I can't go for your game because it's my parents' wedding anniversary."

Taichi: "Oh, sorry for assuming."

Koushiro: "It's fine. Hmm, why don't we ask Mimi?"

Taichi made a confused face.

Taichi: "Huh? She's in America. No way she can make it."

Koushiro: "There's always the Digital Gates."

Taichi: "True but…"

Koushiro's phone beeped.

Koushiro: "Oh, that was fast."

"Hi hi! Thanks for the invite. I'll be there, so cover my plane ticket, ok?"

Taichi: "Huh?! She's coming by plane?"

Koushiro: "Will she even arrive on time..? When's the game?"

Taichi: "2pm."

Koushiro: "Most of the planes are… unable to fly due to the power outages. It's going to be hard and expensive to find a plane to get back here… and then she's going to have to fly back as well? Can't she just use a gate…"

Taichi: "Well… Mimi always has been a bit… impulsive…"

Koushiro: "Well, yeah but she's not stupid. Maybe she has some other reason for coming by plane?"

Taichi: "I sure hope so… I don't have the kind of money to pay for a flight."

Takeru and Hikari were walking on the street. Hikari was pushing her bicycle as they walked.

Takeru: "Ah, Onii-Chan's band also has a performance on that day. Do you know when Taichi's game starts?"

Hikari: "2pm."

Takeru: "That's way too tight. If only we could use the Digital gates to travel. Then we could actually make it on time."

Hikari: "Yeah. I don't like that we are hiding this though."

Takeru: "The gates? Everyone else will be able to use them just fine. It's just the two of us since we're half Digital now."

Hikari: "Yeah… it's too risky if we use the gates carelessly. At least the others can't be infected."

Takeru: "Speaking of, I'm surprised none of them found out we aren't at the house."

Hikari: "Mmm, Onii-Chan has been busy helping Koushiro so he probably hasn't had time to visit the house."

Takeru: "True… I wish we could solve this problem soon. Qinglongmon is nice but, I still prefer our house."

Hikari: "Yeah…"

Takeru and Hikari crossed a road and stopped there.

Takeru gave Hikari a quick peck.

Takeru: "Alright, I'll see you at home."

Hikari: "Hmm? You going somewhere?"

Takeru: "I'm just going to walk around a little."

Hikari: "Alright, see you at home."

Takeru turned to walk off as Hikari continued in the direction of her home. Suddenly, both felt a spine-tingling chill. A strong gust of wind blew past them. Hikari instinctively let go of her bicycle and crouched down, with her hands over her head. Her face was full of fear. Takeru quickly ran back and placed his hands on Hikari's shoulder and shielded her from the wind.

As the wind died down, the duo looked up and saw nothing.

Takeru: "Was… was that…"

Hikari: "It… yes…"

Takeru hugged Hikari and quickly helped her to stand.

Takeru: "I'm going with you. We'll go to your place and then we will inform Qinglongmon."

Hikari: "Ok…"

The duo started the walk off towards Hikari's home. They had sensed a presence all too familiar to them. They needed to inform Qinglongmon.

A few days had passed without incident, and it was Sunday. Taichi and Hikari were sitting at the dining table, eating their meal. The television was on, showing a report on the recent blackouts.

Taichi: "I really wish we could figure out what happened…"

Hikari: "Yeah…"

Taichi gave a weird look at Hikari. It seemed like she was hiding something.

Taichi: "Are you… alright, Hikari?"

Hikari: "Hmm? Yeah, perfectly fine…"

Taichi didn't look convinced but dropped it.

Taichi: "Ok, but if anything happened, you can come to me."

Hikari: "I know, thanks, Onii-Chan."

Taichi and Hikari continued to eat for a moment before Hikari sighed.

Hikari: "I wish everyone else could've come today…"

Taichi: "It's fine, I know they are just too busy to come and watch me play."

Hikari: "So, it does bother you."

Taichi: "No it doesn't!"

Hikari: "It does… definitely."

Taichi: "Anyways, we need to get going, or else I'll be late."

Hikari nodded and went to clear their plates. Taichi and Hikari both went to say goodbye to their mother. As they were leaving the apartment, Taichi realised the lack of a presence.

Taichi: "Where's Tailmon?"

Hikari: "Ah, she's in the Digital World today."

Taichi: "Is that so…"

"I can't tell him… Qinglongmon said we can't make everyone else worry. Tailmon… and Patamon… we need to keep them safe if possible."

The duo left and saw a moving van below their apartment. They both nodded to the girl that was presumably the new resident. The girl nodded back as they continued on their way.

Takeru walked in as Yamato's band was tuning their instruments backstage.

Takeru: "Seems like a big crowd today."

Yamato: "Is that so? Well, that's good then."

All of a sudden, one of the instruments sounded really off.

Yamato: "Oi, tune it properly."

Band member: "I did. I'm not sure what's going on with it."

Yamato looked confused but made a face as if he remembered something. He tried to play a tune on his guitar, only for it to come out sounding weird as well. Yamato sighed while mumbling something.

Yamato: "Why now of all times…"

Takeru looked concerned as Yamato gave him a knowing look.

Yamato went back to his band members and gave some instructions.

Yamato: "It's a problem with the speakers. I'll see if we can get new ones from the managers here, but don't be too hopeful."

Yamato turned to Takeru.

Yamato: "I don't think we will be playing tonight."

Takeru: "The power outages, right?"

Yamato: "Yeah, seriously… of all the times for it to hit…"

Yamato brought Takeru to another section of the backstage and they sat down there, Yamato fruitlessly playing his guitar. He knew that it was a Digital problem, and they couldn't do much about it.

Yamato was adjusting the strings as Takeru tapped him in the shoulder and pointed towards a television.

Yamato looked up and gasped.

Yamato: "Well… looks like we're definitely not playing today..."

Yamato went over to his band members and informed them about a sudden urgent matter, as Takeru brought out his phone to text the rest.

Taichi and his team were on the field stretching to get ready. Hikari was sitting down at the stands to watch their game.

Suddenly, there seemed to be a big fuss over something. Taichi looked up and saw something flying close to the ground.

"What the!?"

Taichi quickly rolled out of the way as a Kuwagamon came flying by.

Taichi grit his teeth, while on the side, Hikari looked shocked and incredibly uneasy. Taichi stood up and ran in the direction of the Kuwagamon, resulting in his teammates shouting, mainly asking where he was going. Hikari quickly searched her pocket and grabbed something before rushing over to Taichi.

As Hikari caught up with Taichi, she quickly passed him his phone.

Hikari: "Call mom, get Agumon to come here now."

Taichi: "What about Tailmon?"

Hikari: "Don't worry about that. Go find a place to pick up Agumon from."

Taichi's face turned into one of confusion.

Taichi: "What are you going to do?"

Hikari slipped on a large ring onto her hand.

Hikari: "I'll get Tailmon and handle this. Go get Agumon quickly."

Taichi's eyes widened.

Taichi: "Is that a Holy Ring?"

Hikari stared at the ring around her wrist for a moment.

Hikari: "Yes, I'll explain everything later, go now! Hurry!"

Taichi ran to one of the nearby buildings, while texting his mom, and searched for a good digital screen that could bring Agumon to him. Hikari rushed off in the direction of the Kuwagamon and started to focus.

"I know we are far away right now… but I have to try..."

Hikari continued to focus.

"Takeru, can you hear me?"

After some pause, Hikari got a response.

"I hear you. There's a Kuwagamon on the loose. I saw it on the news."

"Get Patamon and Tailmon from Qinglongmon and get over to me as soon as possible. I'll keep you updated on where I am. I'll do my best to hold it off."

"Be careful. You don't have a way to defend yourself if it gets too close."

"Don't worry about me. Can you call the rest too?"

"Don't worry, I'm already on it."

Hikari kept chasing the Kuwagamon, not realising that as she continued to run, the electronics nearby seemed to be malfunctioning.

That's it for this chapter. Hey, just realised I posted this exactly 1 year after the original story hehe. Anyways, this story will probably have lesser chapters than the previous one? But It'll definitely take me longer to publish everything.
