Disclaimer: I do not own Mushoku Tensei nor Fire Emblem. Obviously.
SPOILER WARNING: This fic contains spoilers for Mushoku Tensei. If you're not caught up to at least volume 14 of the light novel, I recommend to steer clear of this fic to avoid spoilers.
Roxy M. Greyrat sighed. Another long day at her somewhat new job. She was getting used to it of course, but regardless, adjusting to her teaching curriculum is still exhausting.
Despite that, she loved her new job.
Teaching has been her dream. Even before educating Rudy when he was a young boy, she aspired to become a magic teacher. Her time when she was an adventurer has been nice of course, slaying monsters, traveling, having the opportunity to meet interesting new people along the way, and especially tasting new sweet treats when going continent to continent! Despite everything during that time though, her mind always regressed to teaching.
Roxy acknowledges that she wasn't a very good teacher. Despite Rudy's unwavering and continuous compliments on her education, she didn't have an overly optimistic view of herself. Roxy follows the book; she was a textbook teacher. Despite its great value, a student's memory won't retain it very well. Instead of simplifying your own complex details to provide the student with additional depth and understanding, it's more like reading a book to them. Although Roxy lacked the quality, she made a self-promise to focus on becoming more... perceptive of her students.
It's likely that Roxy was overly critical of herself. Rudy would say something like, "Roxy is a perfect saint with no flaws. Everything she says, goes." if he ever heard this. Although Roxy would undoubtedly blush upon hearing the compliment, he places her far too high on his pedestal. She had a deep affection for Rudy. The mage with blue hair has genuinely never been happier since getting married to Rudeus. Sometimes she sleeps in the same bed as him, so it seemed surreal to wake up and see Rudy's attractive face. Yes, there's no better feeling in the world than sharing a bed with someone who loves you just as much as you do, especially when that bedtime ritual frequently culminates in sexual activity. The physical intimacy was very nice when she and Rudy made love, but when it comes to the emotional aspect of it all? It's the absolute best. She quietly squealed in delight at the thought.
Including her husband, her new home has been very pleasant. Sylphiette greeted her as if she were a sister. The elf girl had been more than willing to accept Roxy into the family ever since they had trekked back from the Teleportation Labyrinth that day. Roxy has received a lot of support from Sylphiette, who has always asked how her day was going and smiled warmly when she returned from work.
She's Roxy's friend. They grew very close in a short span of time. Roxy planned to invite Sylphiette on a girl's night out sometime.
Aisha was the ever hardworking and studious girl. The little maid wasn't exactly opposed to the idea of Roxy becoming one of Rudy's wives. The bluenette never sensed any hostility from the girl. Just like Sylphiette, she always gave her a genuine smile and welcomed her back whenever she came back from the university. It's probably in the case of the fact that she is one of the family's maids, but regardless, Aisha treated Roxy with kindness and respect on and off the clock.
Miss Lillia. The head maid for one related to Roxy due to the fact she was the second wife of Paul. She had no grievances or bad feelings towards Roxy. She is treated by Lillia with the same affection and respect as Sylphiette. Although the older maid's actions may not have shown her generosity as much, she was treated with true hospitality in all of her endeavors. Roxy expressed her gratitude for it.
Then there was Miss Zenith. Despite her tragic memory loss because of the Fittoa Displacement Incident, the woman displayed some emotion. Every now and then when Roxy was lounging back in the lavish living room, Zenith would smile a little. Not only was this the most emotion the fair-haired lady had shown anyone, but Roxy reasoned that this was the most emotion Zenith would show her. To anyone for that matter.
Last but certainly not least was Norn. Rudy's little sister gave an outburst when Rudy announced he wanted to marry Roxy. Her displeasure made the blue haired girl afraid, afraid that she had no choice but to be alone again. If it weren't for Sylphiette's open mindedness, she definitely wouldn't have been welcomed to the Greyrat family household. Of course, Norn was part of the Millis Faith. Monogamy is one of the rules for that particular religion.
Even though her and Norn's relationship started out shaky, Norn was growing more and more fond of Roxy. The mage probably had her intellect to thank for that. As the days went by, Norn looked up to Roxy. She was a teacher at the Ranoa Magic University, so it made sense she was starting to feel that way. Norn had a couple of classes that Roxy taught, she always had an expression of astonishment whenever Roxy addressed and answered her questions.
All-in-all, Roxy loved her life here.
The Migurdian decided to stop reflecting for a bit. She still had to focus on reiterating her teaching agenda for the upcoming semester.
Roxy was currently alone in the faculty office of the University. Classes were finished for today, it was the start of the weekend. Still, on top of her teaching agenda, she still had to grade papers for the magic incantation test she gave out. It wasn't that difficult of a test, it was more of a pop quiz on reciting spells. Memorization of the words was very strenuous, she herself expressed perturbation when failed to commit a chant during a crucial moment in battle. Most people didn't have the luxury of chantless magic.
She took a sip of her coffee, it was gonna be a long day still.
"Hm? Ah Miss Roxy, good afternoon." Suddenly, a white haired individual walked into the faculty office.
It was Roxy's co-worker, Robin Daraen. Her fellow teacher was holding a couple of history books. It's no surprise to always find him having a book on his person.
"Good afternoon to you as well, Sir Robin. I take it you also have papers to grade?" Roxy replied as she looked up from her assigned desk.
Robin shook his head. "Fortunately, no. I took the liberty of accomplishing my grading assessments during lunch today."
"I see. So what brings you to the office today?"
"Just here to pick up a book I forgot to bring with me. I figured to get ahead of the curve with the upcoming semester."
"Oh? I can't believe you're already starting to formulate your agenda already. Also, please don't fall asleep in the office again. Last time that occurred, half of the teachers thought the office was haunted by a ghost."
"Er, I assure you that won't happen again. Besides, it's quite normal for me to slumber on a desk. You should try it sometime, it's honestly quite refreshing at times." Robin chuckled lightly.
The blue haired demon sighed, but gave a weak smile. "I think I'll stick to beds, thank you."
While she appreciated the joke, the man should seriously look after himself more often.
To say the white haired individual was brilliant is an understatement. The man is an absolute genius when it came to strategy, and that's not even from a theoretical war standpoint, on all fronts his intellect was practically unmatched. Robin was beguiling, he certainly had a sophisticated idiolect. Poking fun at the correct times, cheering someone up, and overall he was genuinely loved by everyone as soon as he started teaching in the University.
Roxy was a bit jealous of him. It was only after a couple of weeks since he was employed here, many of the staff and student body had him in high standing. Well, more specifically the female populace. Lots of times, Roxy overheard female students talking amongst themselves about the white haired man, mostly due to his looks and aristocratic word play. In some aspects she had to agree with them. Besides his somewhat charming looks, the man exuded a certain mysterious air around him. So much so whenever he walked in the hallways, many females waved at him and some merely just took in his presence like he was a celebrity.
If Roxy weren't already married to Rudeus, she definitely would've fallen head over heels for Robin. She quickly quelled the thought though, she was happily married to Rudeus and she wouldn't have it any other way. Besides, a man like Robin had to be married already.
There were some questions Roxy wanted to be answered when it came to her co-worker. Moreso on his past. When she tried researching what Robin's birthplace and occupation was in the past, she came to draw a blank. She wasn't nosy, but Roxy lived longer than most acquaintances. Not to mention she had a plethora of knowledge she accumulated along the times when she was an adventurer. So only finding little to no information on someone she'd definitely know beforehand kind of bothered her in some aspect.
The most informative evidence Roxy had found on Robin was apparently nicknamed, "The Tactician."
His earliest achievements started in the Northern Territories. Rather quickly, he rose through the ranks in the adventurer's guild, to the point it was rumored he started out as S-Rank. He never partied with the same group of individuals for an extended period of time, so he was a party hopper. He helped out individuals who needed to fill out specific roles for their party. He performed at an exceptional level, that wasn't even including combative abilities. Robin was an excellent tactician, planner, and solutionist. On the fly, the white haired man always kept a calm composure some of the reports say. He'd always help his party out of dire situations, no matter who partied with him, there were no casualties whatsoever.
Robin was considered a miracle worker in some regards.
Then came his combat abilities. Many reports say he can do any magic incantation-less. Which in no way could be true Roxy thought.. Apparently so, the more reliable sources from the adventurer's guild is that he's able to perform an advanced tier with no incantations.
She remembered that before he showed his class, Robin had cast a magic spell in the courtyard. He worked wind, fire, and lightning magic. Still, the blue-haired mage was most surprised by his lightning magic, which he performed with extraordinary ease. Normally, in order to execute a lightning strike, you would need to cast at least a Saint Tier water spell. In addition to the fact that it would take some time to prepare, Robin had cast a lightning spell without chanting. Still though, Robin himself rarely showed off. Maybe next time she can ask him to perform other spells before her. Roxy was a bit jealous of Rudy when he could perform such amazing acts at such a tender young age, but Roxy was definitely jealous of Robin's magic prowess. There's no point in helping it though, she figured to ask Robin sometime on the true extent of his abilities.
On top of his magic, he was also a swordsman. He wasn't as talented as a swordsman as he was a mage, but he was good enough to the point it still garnered attention. Robin had practiced with this school's sword instructor. While he was being interviewed, he figured to showcase his sword competency to the Vice Principal Jenius. Jenius was already gonna hire him on the spot due to his magic achievements, but he was still curious on what else the man was capable of. He utterly defeated this school's sword instructor, much so it appeared the white haired man wasn't even trying at all. His sword style had no apparent distinction between the three major sword schools. It was as if his style was a mix of all three of them combined.
The Vice Principal appraised him to be about Sword Saint level, Jenius wasn't much of a sword expert, but even he can tell when he sees a skilled swordsman. When Jenius directly asked Robin what school he went to learn such sword skills. The reply Jenius got was, "There's schools to teach swordplay?" It was met with a genuine look from Robin, he apparently had no idea what styles of the sword is.
It was all the information that Roxy had on hand so far when it came to Robin Daraen. While he may be an anomaly in some regards, he was still a genuine person in Roxy's point of view at least.
Picking up after his book he left in the faculty office, Robin queried a question to Roxy. "Before I forget, would you happen to know Sir Rudeus' or Seven Stars' whereabouts? I happen to have some findings regarding his research."
Roxy shook her head. "My husband is currently on an expedition to the Armored Dragon King's castle, Seven Stars as well as among the people accompanying him. Unfortunately, I do not know when he'll return."
"The Chaos Breaker? Well, I'll inform them about my discoveries whenever he returns."
Not long after Robin's employment here, he quickly became acquaintances with Roxy's husband, Rudeus Greyrat. At first, Rudy was quite suspicious of the white haired man. Roxy wasn't sure why that was the case, but she didn't hold anything against him for his suspicions. Maybe it was jealousy? Possibly, but any ill feelings Rudy felt towards the new teacher quickly faded as they had arisen.
Apparently, Robin was the one that came forward to Rudy. The tactician even went out of his way to assist Seven Star and Rudy's research project when it comes to teleportation magic. They had become associates, then after a bit, they quickly became friends.
It seems Robin's charisma can affect anyone.
"One more thing, while I happened to walk around the market place earlier, one of the stands was selling specialty candy from the Demon Continent. I purchased a couple of them. Thought you might want some." Robin reached into his black coat to retrieve what appeared to be rock candy in a pointy shape. They somewhat resembled the magic crystals that lit up around the valley at night in one of the Demon Continent's villages, Rikarisu.
Roxy's eyes slightly lit up at the sight of one her favorite childhood candies. "Crystal Candies! I haven't had the chance to eat these so long ago."
"Good thing I procured these up then, luckily, there were only a couple left. So I bought the last of them." Robin then gave the blue haired mage a handful of the Crystal Candies. They lit slightly up when light was directed at them.
Roxy was about to gorge down on them but hesitated. "E-Er, how would you want to be paid back? These things are very hard to come by in the Central Continent."
"Please. I'm not the type of friend that expects repayment after fulfilling one's desires. Go right ahead and enjoy them." Robin smiled.
Wasting no time, she almost shoveled the entire portion into her mouth. She decided against it though, who knows how long she can taste this sweet goodness again. Roxy put the rest of the candies beside her grading papers, no doubt she'll need them when taking a small break here and there.
"Thank you Sir Robin. I've been missing my old home for a bit, so these were definitely needed. Are you sure you don't want any compensation?" Roxy asked.
The tactician shook his head. "Like I said, my intentions are simply common sense. I… miss my homeland too. So I understand how you feel."
"Oh. Perhaps I could get something from the marketplace from your homeland?" Roxy asked.
Robin chuckled lightly. "There's no need. I seriously doubt they'd have any objects from where I'm from here."
"Sorry. That was insensitive of me to ask." Roxy lowered her head for a bit.
"Rest assured. I've been coming to terms with it for quite some time now."
The blue haired mage regretted asking it now. That may be the reason why Robin's past is such an enigma. His hometown was probably one of the victims of the Fittoa Region Displacement. Roxy knew how much Rudy and his family had been through because of the incident, not to mention Sylphiette as well. The answer on why such a tragic event conspired still hasn't been resolved yet. One thing's for sure, lots and lots of people died of the Displacement.
Come to think of it, Roxy herself is not sure whether or not Robin has a family. They could have been caught up in it and unfortunately lost their lives due to it. It might be a touchy subject, the demon didn't want to bring this conversation to a solemn atmosphere than it already has. Especially not after Robin gave her the gift of one of her continent's specialties.
Trying to steer away from the somber topic, Roxy asked, "S-So, about the book you were trying to retrieve…"
"Ah! Thanks for reminding me. It should be right around…" Robin trailed off as he walked towards his desk in the faculty office. His small space was pretty cluttered. Papers, books, pens, were scattered all over his table. But it appeared that the Tactician knew how to traverse his messy desk, almost instantly, he plucked a certain book from the pile. The cover seemed to be read as "A Recollection of War Strategies: 5th Edition."
Roxy noted his desk, "You should really organize your desk Sir Robin. You wouldn't want to ruin one of the school's library books if one of those ink cases spilled all over it."
"Believe it or not, I happen to think better under those conditions. I suppose you're right though." Robin replied.
What an odd way of thinking, Roxy thought.
"With that out of the way, I'll leave you to your grading. Farewell, Miss Roxy." Robin bowed slightly.
"To you as well, Sir Robin. Once again thank you for Crystal Candies." The blue haired mage smiled slightly.
As he left the faculty office, Roxy returned to her work, she almost lost track of whose papers she graded.
It was gonna be a long day.
A/N: Thanks for reading!
This is my first crossover fic being posted. So please bear with me!
Anyway, I've been reading a lot of Mushoku Tensei LN recently. I've been enjoying it a lot. I haven't watched the anime yet, but I highly recommend reading the LN as well if you haven't already. It's writing style is somewhat unique when it comes to isekai at least I think.
The premise of this fic is Robin from Fire Emblem Awakening being put in the Mushoku Tensei world! That's basically it.
Also, I definitely plan to put in a Rudeus POV. So I'm not sure if I should do it in third person or first person. I'll probably do the latter since the LN is in first person.
With that said, PLEASE do not hesitate to review and/or critique. I'll always take it in stride to further improve my writing.
Take care and see you next time!
