Donald had finally let Sora drive, which was wonderful for him to hear, since he has been pestering him every year for his chance. Goofy was happy Donald finally loosened up enough to let him, although Donald still seemed tense, sitting in the backseat next to Goofy. Sora seemed happier than usual as well.
"See?" Goofy asked. "Told ya you should've let him drive. Look how happy he is, Donald!"
"Yeah, but he still almost hit a couple of asteroids," Donald grumbled.
"I'm not gonna hit any asteroids," Sora said pridefully. "I've been watching you drive for three years, I'm sure I know how to drive the Gummi Ship by now."
"Watch it!" Donald cried. Sora jolted the wheel to the left, turning the ship in a few circles in space. He straightened out the ship. They all sat in silence, gripping their chairs, Sora gripping the steering, tightly. "Don't...do that!" Sora cried, prying his hands off the handles. "You're gonna make me crash!"
"Well, maybe you should let me drive then!" Donald replied.
"Donald!" Goofy cried. "Sora can drive just fine! You just need to calm down and relax."
"Relax?" Donald repeated. "How can I relax if Sora's gonna crash into an asteroid?"
"I was just fine before you yelled at me!" Sora replied.
"I would've had to have yell at you if you were keeping your eyes out the window!" Donald yelled.
"Guys," Goofy said.
"Well, if you didn't doubt me," Sora started, pointing at Donald, "then I wouldn't have to look at you! I literally have to prove myself to you that I can drive!"
The ship vibrated, but Sora and Donald didn't seem to notice over their yelling. "Guys?" Goofy tried again. They didn't hear him. They just continued yelling at each other. "Why do you doubt me so much anyway?" Sora cried. "You've been with me for three years!" Sora threw his hands in the air. "Why is it so hard for you to grip me driving?"
"Guys?"
"Because you're still young!" Donald cried. "I've seen how teenagers drive!"
"Yeah, drive things I've never seen!" Sora cried.
"Exactly!" Donald cried.
The ship vibrated again, this time with much more force. The lights in the ship went out. "Guys!" Goofy yelled. "Happy vibes!"
"Great!" Donald yelled. "Now we aren't going anywhere!"
"I wonder who's fault that is?" Sora cried. Donald and Sora huffed, crossed their arms and walked to opposite sides of the ship. The lights finally died.
Goofy looked between the two of them, then sat on his chair. "This can't get any worse," Goofy sighed.
The entire power core turned off in the ship as it entered emergency shut down. There was a large click as the biggest light turned off. "I was wrong," Goofy said, putting his head on his hand.
The party sat in silence for five minutes before Sora broke the silence. "Donald, I'm sorry for yelling at you. I don't know where it came from."
Donald didn't answer. "Donald?" Sora asked. Still no reply. "F-f-fine!" Sora said, suddenly shivering. "B-be that w-w-way!"
Sora turned around and faced the wall to his right, crossing his arms, putting his hands in his underarms. "Sora?" Goofy asked. "Is it just me or did it get really cold in here?" Goofy rubbed his arms up and down in hopes to warm them up.
"Well, w-w-we can't g-g-go anywhere until D-D-Donald apologizes," Sora replied, shivering.
A small red light began blinking on the dash board. Sora glanced at it, turned away, then looked back at it again. "Donald? Are y-y-you gonna get t-t-that?" Donald still didn't answer. Sora sighed, stood, rubbing his arms, ignoring his breath coming out of his mouth, and pushed the button under the light.
A screen popped up on the window. "Sora!" Chip squeaked. "You have to get out of there!"
"Well, we c-c-can't!" Sora cried, his teeth clattering.
"Why not?" Dale asked.
"Dale, now's not the time!" Chip yelled. "This is urgent!"
"Urgent?" Goofy asked, walking next to Sora.
"Very, VERY urgent!" Chip replied. Dale pulled up a pop up window next to their video call. "There is a large asteroid coming your way!" Chip cried. "You have to get out there now!"
"But, our s-s-ship isn't work-k-k-king!" Sora said.
"Well, ya better get it to work soon!" Dale cried. "If ya don't get out of there, that asteroid is going to blow you to bits! If it doesn't freeze you to death first!"
"That must be why it's c-cold!" Goofy replied.
"Where's Donald?" Chip asked.
"Donald's here," Sora replied.
"No he's not," Chip said. "I have a reading on the inside of your ship and I'm only picking up you and Goofy."
"Donald's not h-h-here?" Sora asked.
"Seems not," Goofy said.
"Where could he h-h-have possible g-g-gone?" Sora asked, shivering more now.
"Well, w-w-we need to f-f-find him quick-k-kly," Goofy stated. "It's g-g-getting c-c-colder."
"Good luck!" Dale cheered, saluting.
"You'll need it!" Chip cried.
The video call ended, the screen shrinking before vanishing. "D-D-Donald?" Sora asked. "Donald, w-w-where are you?"
"Donald!" Goofy called.
"Is-s-s-s there an em-m-mergency power s-s-system?" Sora asked.
"No," Goofy said.
"I think there's a light on y-y-your Gummi P-P-Phone," Jimny said, jumping onto Sora's shoulder.
"T-t-that would've been n-n-nice to know sooner, J-Jimny!" Sora cried.
Jimny saluted and hopped back into the safety and warmth of Sora's pocket. Sora pulled out his Gummi Phone, only with a few pictures on it, a few of his favorite Lucky Emblems he found, and one selfie with all his friends in the new worlds and revisited ones. So far, he's only been to Toy Box, Olympus, and Arendelle. Some of the pictures had to be retaken, since his friends weren't ready, or he was still getting used to taking selfies. There were many retakes of his Lucky Emblem finds, and a few in Toy Box, but by the time he got to Arendelle, he was confident in his photography, even in his selfies, which he prefers to take, more so than normal photos.
Sora turned the phone screen on, scanned all the buttons and apps, and clicked on the one that had a lightbulb on it. A light shot out of the top corner of his phone, in a straight, white beam. "Ah, t-t-there we g-g-go," Sora said.
He started scanning the room with his light. "Goofy!" Sora cried. "I found something!"
Goofy ran over quickly, nearly tripping in the dark over his own feet. "What?" he asked, panting, and still shivering.
"One of the s-s-space suits are m-m-missing," Sora said, pointing at the wall of encased suit with his free thumb. He quickly put his hand back to keep warm. "It's D-Donald's," Goofy noted.
"D-d-d-do you think he went outs-s-side?" Sora asked.
"I'll get h-him," Goofy said. "You s-s-stay in here."
"B-b-but I want to help!" Sora cried.
"You s-staying in here is help en-n-nough," Goofy said, smiling. "I'll b-b-be quick. I p-p-promise."
Sora hesitated, then nodded. "J-just get back in here so we c-c-can get out of the w-w-way...w-w-with Donald." Goofy smiled and put his space suit on, sticking the helmet on last.
Goofy opened the door, jumped outside, and closed the door. "Donald?" Goofy asked, checking to make sure his life line is secure. Goofy floated around and above the ship, to where he saw Donald grumbling, and fixing the electrical circuit on the ship. "Donald!" Goofy cried, relieved.
Goofy quickly floated over to Donald. "What are you d-doing?" he asked. Donald grumbled to himself for a minute longer before he slammed the hatch shut. "What does it l-l-look like I'm doing?" Donald squawked. "I'm f-f-fixing the power!"
"D-Donald, we have to get out of here!" Goofy said, worry in his voice. "S-S-Sora is really worried for ya. Besides-s-s, we have to get out of t-t-the way of this as-s-steroid."
Donald looked at the tail of the ship, and saw a large, blue and white, frosty asteroid coming straight for them. It had already caught up and nearly close enough to crash into them. "S-S-Sora tried to apologize to ya, b-b-but you didn't answer, then he got r-r-real worried for ya, Donald," Goofy said.
Donald looked at Goofy, then down at the ship, then sighed. "Okay, I g-g-guess I was a little h-h-hard on him." Goofy smiled. "L-l-let's get ins-s-side and get this ride a-movin'!"
Goofy brought Donald inside, unhooking both of their life lines and taking off his helmet. Donald took his off as well. "S-S-Sora, I'm sorry," Donald said. Sora smiled at him. Donald smiled when Sora hugged him, startled at first, before returning it. "Now l-l-let's get out of here before this g-g-giant asteroid c-c-crashes into us!"
Sora pushed a button on the dashboard. The entire ship lit up, vibrating for a second, then humming, then fell silent. "We're back online!" Goofy cheered.
"G-g-get us out of here, S-S-Sora!" Donald yelled. Sora smiled at Donald, then sat down in his seat, gripping the ice cold handles. He ignored the temperature of them. "Hang on!" he cried.
Donald quickly scrambled to his seat, however, Goofy didn't make it to his by the time Sora yanked on the handles, shooting them forward and around the asteroids. Goofy flew at Donald, then off of him as Sora took a sharp turn through the asteroid belt. "Hang on, g-g-guys!" Sora cried. "I'm not sure how well this'll play out!"
Goofy crawled over to his chair, but he couldn't pull himself up, as the ship started banging and jolting around. "Sora! What are you doing?" Donald cried.
"Trying to get us out of here!" Sora cried. "There are ice asteroids everywhere!"
Sora managed to keep control of the ship, despite the many asteroids he nearly hit, although he did hit a few. In front of the ship is the largest of all of the asteroids, this one covered with red, seemingly hot, rocks. "There's no way out of this one! Guys, hang on!" Sora cried.
Sora gripped the handles tighter and flew just above the asteroid. He accidentally banged into another one above it, which pushed him down into the fiery one. Sora quickly regained control, only for the fire asteroid to crash into another large asteroid and smash to pieces.
The fiery rocks flew in many directions, most of them flying the same direction the asteroid was moving. Unfortunately, some did change direction and crash right into the Gummi Ship. The alarms started blaring inside the ship. "Sora!" Goofy cried.
Sora regained control again, before three more large, fiery asteroid rocks flew at the ship. "We're going down!" Sora cried. "Watch out!"
Two more fiery asteroid bits crashed into the Gummi Ship, taking out one of the wings. Sora tried to maneuver the ship to safely land on Atlantis, but a large asteroid zoomed past and crashed into the ship, pushing him a different direction.
Donald was the first to regain consciousness. "Ugh, what happened?" he asked. He tried to rub his head, but he couldn't reach it. He looked at his hands, seeing that they are small, yellow triangles. He ran over to a small puddle of water nearby. His appearance is the same it has always been when they traveled through the wormhole to Poppy's world. The place she called home. Pop Village.
Well, they didn't make it to Atlantis, but they did make it somewhere where they knew they would be safe. The Trolls are very hospitable after all. Donald wobbled for a second as he regained his composure. His head pounded and his legs felt like jelly, but he doesn't seem to have any other wounds.
Donald glanced at the Gummi Ship, back at the water, then quickly turned in for a double take at the ship. The ship is crashed and nearly unsalvageable. There a few pieces on fire and some of Sora's souvenirs have been burned, even some of his pictures. Well, the pictures are okay, because Sora can always reprint them. His friends are a different matter though.
Donald didn't worry too much about Goofy since he just started to come to. Sora was still unconscious, and he seemed to have a small bruise on his head, but nothing more, besides his foot being pinned under a piece of the wing debris. "Sora!" Donald and Goofy cried in unison.
There was a small explosion behind them, near the back of the ship, and more fire started, however, this one started spreading. Quickly. "Sora!" Goofy cried. "Donald!"
Donald ran over to Sora, and started helping Goofy pull the debris off of Sora's leg. It took a lot of effort for their small bodies, but they did manage to move the debris off of Sora and pull him away from the crashed ship. Donald put out the fire with his newly learned spell, waterball, and ran back over to Sora and Goofy. "Is he okay?" Donald asked.
"He's fine," Goofy said. "He's still unconscious, since he was in the front seat, but he doesn't have anything too bad. He'll be okay."
Donald didn't realize he was holding his breath until he let it all out. "That's good," he sighed, relieved. If Sora died, he wouldn't know what to do with himself after. Going on these adventures, as much as he didn't want to at first, has been fun and exciting, and Sora makes so many new friends that Donald can't remember half of their names.
Donald sprayed a small trinkle of water on Sora's face with his staff, now the size of a wand. Sora didn't move, so he did it again until he stirred. Donald and Goofy watched expectantly as Sora regained his consciousness.
Sora coughed a few times before he opened his eyes. "Did we make it?" he asked, his eyes half closed.
"Yeah, we're okay," Donald said softly.
"Heh, good," Sora said weakly.
Author's Note
Sorry this chapter was so long, I was gonna cut it short and have them safely make it through but I wanted to expand on Donald's arc some and add this chapter. It was originally going to just be, meteors, asteroid belt, and Sora flying the ship through the wormhole the first time, but I felt like this was better! XD
