Minutes after Buck helped Eddie out of the pool, both of them soaking wet, they headed into the truck and sat there, shivering. "You boys okay?" a worried Hen checked.
"Fine," a still terrified Eddie lied as he continued to shiver. He was not coming down from the adrenaline rush very easily, which wasn't helping.
"I'm good," Buck answered honestly. He found his phone sitting on the floor and picked it up to call Tommy, eyes glancing in every direction to see if any bees had followed them in.
"Yeah, you look fine." Chimney rolled his eyes at their antics, even as paranoia made him also check every nook and cranny. He hoped nothing got in through the door or windows.
Although he knew his boyfriend was on shift, Buck wanted to check on Tommy anyway just in case he was on a break. Thankfully, Gerrard was nowhere in sight, stuck helping out with incident command. He dialed Tommy's number and sighed in relief when he picked up a few rings in. "Hey. How's everything going with the twenty-two million bees?" a clearly concerned Tommy asked him.
"Chaotic. How's everything going with you?" Buck questioned.
"About the same. Anybody get stung yet? We've had a few incidents here already and have closed all the doors and windows. We're basically all on guard, waiting for these fuckers to get in."
"Not yet but I fully expect it'll happen soon. Eddie had to bolt into a pool, and I saved him."
Eddie scowled at his best friend. "Rude."
"But true," Hen pointed out.
"It was pretty funny," chimed in Chimney, a shit eating grin on his face.
"I hate you all." Eddie glared at them, scowling even more when they were undeterred from the teasing.
"We love you too, Eddie." Hen laughed at the look on his face.
"I won't make you fun of you, I promise," Tommy solemnly informed him, definitely fighting a grin. He was thankful Eddie couldn't see him, that his boyfriend hadn't chosen to Facetime him. He'd absolutely be getting in trouble too.
"Thank you, Tommy. You're better than everyone else."
"I'm wounded," Chimney joked, pouting at him.
Buck bit his lip. "I hope this bee-nado won't last long but with our luck, that seems unlikely."
Tommy chuckled. "Bee-nado?"
Buck smiled proudly. "I came up with it!" he bragged.
"That's a name I would have expected Howie to come up with," Tommy admitted. He also couldn't believe he was witnessing LA's weird ass emergencies firsthand through the 118 for once. It was surreal and mind boggling.
Chimney scoffed. "Thank you! I'm still mad he got there first."
A call came in through Dispatch at that moment, interrupting Buck and Tommy's conversation, directing the station to a new call brought on by the bees. "I'll talk to you whenever I get a chance," Buck vowed.
"I look forward to it, Evan. Bee safe out there!" Tommy told them.
The others all groaned at the pun while Buck just beamed. "Bye, Tommy."
"Bye, sweetheart."
The two of them grudgingly hung up just as the truck pulled up to the site of the latest bee-caused disaster. "This is going to suck," a still soaked Eddie complained.
"Yeah." Buck didn't look forward to saving anybody this wet but they didn't have time to change or even go back to the station.
They all couldn't wait for this day to end, Buck especially. It was one thing after one at this point with barely any breaks between. And he missed Tommy, desperately wanted to spend some of their free time together.
Unbeknownst to the two men, they'd be meeting up sooner rather than later because the bee-induced disasters somehow escalated and got even worse (and wilder, somehow).
