Mammoth sea serpents swam frantically in droves toward the shore of Japan. With snouts pointed and sharklike, crustacean forelimbs, and maroon bristles running down either side of their bodies, they were unlike any creature that would reasonably occur in nature. Their striking teal scales provided a stark contrast with the reddening waters they emerged from.

manda

Giant Marine Monster

Coast guard ships fired upon the manda, killing them one by one. But even as they were gunned down they remained undeterred, single-mindedly fleeing to shallower waters.

The mandas numbers quickly dropped, blown to pieces one after another by JSDF artillery. Red mist that wasn't entirely blood sprayed into the air. But no matter the danger ahead of them, it was nothing compared to the monster gaining up from behind.

Just under the surface, an unlucky manda had been caught by the tail and promptly torn apart in a larger sea monster's jaws.

Only four of the initial dozen were able to bypass the ship blockade, funneling together to swim upstream of a river flowing into the sea.

Despite the mandas' transition to freshwater, their predator did not give up its pursuit.

Rushing to a speed of eighty knots, leaving a red trail behind it, a far larger creature armored in crimson scales breached over one of the ships. It resembled a massive mosasaur with clawed flippers, a long tail that fanned out at the end, and small maple leaf shaped plates running along its upper back.

Godzilla Aquatilis

Apocalyptic Monster

As Godzilla Aquatilis touched back down under the water's surface a concussive blast capsized the ship he'd breached over. This wasn't Aquatilis' doing.

Cutting through the water at a furious speed of ninety knots, a third kaiju rapidly approached.

Off the Japanese coast a mammoth sized serpentine dragon reaching one hundred fifty meters in length oriented itself with his surroundings.

The kaiju had catlike eyes, a set of short barbels near the tip of his snout, and four bony horns off the back of his head. Near impenetrable viridian scales armored his body with the exception of the cream colored ventrals at his stomach. Four stubby legs sprouted from his sides.

Manda

Guardian Dragon

Manda had no idea where he was or how he got there, his last memory was pursuing the latest metal annoyance that dared enter his territory into a narrow strait. He was still in an ocean, but not his ocean. The waters felt different, off.

The sea dragon moved onward, guided by instinct. As he swam the waters began feeling increasingly alien.

Abnormal particles stained the tides red. Manda wondered if he had somehow stumbled into Dagarla's territory, but dismissed the idea. It wasn't Barem swarms dyeing the water, it was something else entirely.

As the water became thicker with the red substance the sounds of struggling, as well as human artillery, became apparent. A predator was chasing its prey to a human infested shore. A bold move for an aquatic Kaiju.

Sheerly out of curiosity, Manda tailed after the predator using echolocation to navigate the red tides. As the shore approached the sea began to clear. Manda could get a clear view of several creatures vaguely resembling himself, fleeing in terror from a kaiju he almost mistook for Titanosaurus, as human ships gunned them down.

The predator, Godzilla Aquatilis, gained on the schooling serpents, biting down on an unfortunate individual's tail. The alternate manda was torn to pieces in a matter of seconds.

Aquatilis abandoned its remains to continue the chase. It wasn't hunting for sustenance, or attacking in defense of its territory.

Manda grew furious. Whether this was his own territory or not, he refused to idle by as the slaughter continued. The sea dragon gained speed and opened his mouth, charging a concentrated blast of sonar.

Still undetected, Manda fired his supersonic wave cannon at Godzilla Aquatilis. Blissfully unaware of the upcoming blast, Aquatilis happened to breach at just the right moment. An unfortunate ship was reduced to shrapnel in his stead.

Manda rose to the surface in full speed pursuit of Aquatilis. Being seen was not of his concern. Few kaiju could challenge him in his waters. The furious serpent barreled through the debris of the destroyed ship, locked onto his target.

Aquatilis didn't have the time to react before Manda bit into his back. The apocalyptic monster jolted and thrashed trying to dislodge his attacker. Manda aggressively lashed and twisted his body to maintain hold. Several nearby ships were reduced to wreckage in the struggle.

Overcoming the shock of Manda's sudden appearance, the remaining JSDF ships began firing on both monsters. Their rounds only managed to further aggravate the aquatic terrors.

Aquatilis dove towards the depths, swiftly escaping the JSDF fleet's range. No longer taking fire, Aquatilis struggled to shake Manda off. No matter how he flailed, the stubborn serpent only wrapped tighter.

The pressure was getting painful. Aquatilis plunged deeper and slammed his back against the stony sea floor, just where Manda's head was latched. For just a moment Manda's binds weakened.

Aquatilis darted forward, scraping Manda against the seabed and freeing himself.

Out of the constricting coils, Aquatilis circled to face his attacker, snarling. Manda snarled back just as hostile, then fired off his supersonic wave cannon once again.

The blast of sonar careened through the water and impacted against Aquatilis' shoulder. Aquatilis recoiled in pain, losing his senses.

The High frequency sound wave seemed to have an effect on Aquatilis' equilibrium. Had his facial muscles been capable of it, Manda would've been grinning.

The JSDF ships could only detect one living object, but from its erratic movement it was clear there was a struggle.

Manda skirted to the apocalyptic monster's side and fired a successive blast. Aquatilis wildly snapped in the direction the blast came from only to take another hit from a different angle.

The guardian dragon looped Aquatilis firing sound wave after sound wave until by sheer stroke of luck Aquatilis managed to swat Manda in the head with his tail. The force of the blow stunned Manda, giving Aquatilis crucial seconds to recover.

The two monsters came to grips simultaneously, and glared each other down in sheer contempt.

Manda rushed forward, intent to once again wring the life out of the bulkier sea monster. Aquatilis' back spines let out a faint glow, then a flurry of cavitation bubbles flowed from his mouth.

The bubbles connected with Manda head on and collapsed in on themselves upon contact, acting as miniature depth charges. The force of their implosions was enough to tear multiple scales off of Manda's body.

Shaken by the blasts and flashes of light they created, Manda made an abrupt turn and swam past Aquatilis.

Instead of redirecting for another head on assault, the serpent continued onward, seemingly retreating. Aquatilis gave chase, tailing Manda with conviction.

As the sea floor's terrain shifted from rocky to sandy, Aquatilis began gaining on Manda. Manda's tail nearly entered reach of his jaws when suddenly the dragon pointed his head downward.

A blast of sound sent silt flying. Manda disappeared through the clouded water. Aquatilis fired off a spray of cavitation bubbles into the cloud, only managing to unsettle the silt further.

Aquatilis had played right into Manda's claw.

Sight was no longer something to rely on, but most creatures capable of diving the ocean's deeper depths had other methods. Aquatilis closed his eyes and began focusing his own sense of sonar to locate his enemy.

He sensed nothing alive within his vicinity, just the tides. Had Manda simply taken the opportunity to escape?

Aquatilis opened his eyes and saw Manda glaring at him, nearly snout to snout. Before Aquatilis could react, the dragon snapped down on the apocalyptic monster's jaws, clamping his mouth shut.

Aquatilis thrashed, but Manda hastily wrapped his body around the larger monster. Manda dug his claws into Aquatilis' flesh, he had no intention of allowing himself to be thrown off a second time. Aquatilis tried slamming against the seabed, but the silty ground cushioned Manda against the blows.

Failing to remove Manda, the apocalyptic monster changed approach. He took off at full speed, making for far greater depths.

The water grew pitch black and cold. Water pressure surpassed what most life was capable of tolerating. Even so, Manda would not loosen his grip. It would seem neither kaiju had any difficulty withstanding deep sea.

The monsters had completely exited the range of the JSDF radar. Several new blips revealed more manda headed their direction to reach the river.

The two sea monsters reached the ocean floor, and Manda had only strengthened his coils around Aquatilis.

Aquatilis smashed the sea serpent against the stony ground with calculated purpose, leaving large cracks across the terrain. Manda's coils shifted to lessen the impact and maintain his hold, but in doing so took focus away from his bite force.

The apocalyptic monster's spines began to glow.

Aquatilis wrenched his jaws open, throwing Manda off of his snout. Before Manda could clamp it back shut, Aquatilis fired a concentrated spray of cavitation bubbles downward.

The stone beneath shattered apart. The sea began to boil as illumination seeped through the cracks. Hot magma bled from the ocean floor.

Aquatilis had brought them to a Volcanic fault.

Manda desperately struggled to endure while maintaining his hold, but Aquatilis was entirely unfazed. The apocalyptic monster almost seemed to grin, feeling Manda's coils loosen.

The blistering heat ignited Manda's scales. The dragon immediately released his hold, making a desperate rush for cooler waters.

Manda swam erratically at speeds far greater than he'd previously been capable of. Whether it was the intense heat's effect on his physiology or simply a rush of adrenaline was impossible to say.

The guardian dragon's scales radiated a golden glow, retaining thermal energy. He turned back and roared defiantly, far from finished with the battle.

From within the pyroclastic flow, Aquatilis barreled forward, cavitation bubbles pouring from his mouth. Manda swam to face him straight on.

Just before collision, Manda maneuvered and clamped onto Aquatilis' neck. Aquatilis bit into Manda's side, ready to tear the dragon in half.

Blood and Red archetype particulate stained the waters.

Manda's pupils shrunk to pinpricks. Within his clamped jaw charged a powerful blast of sonar.

The surviving coast guard ships remained on high alert. Several manda had escaped past toward the river in the turmoil. Seeing no sign of the larger kaiju on its radar, one ship turned its cannon toward a manda traveling upstream.

An object flew from the ocean, crashing into the shore with an explosion of sand. The airborne dust settled to the ground, revealing a reptilian head. Sporting red scales.

The vessel aimed at the fleeing manda burst into pieces.

A bloodied, but very much alive Manda surfaced, poking his eyes above the water. He spied four remaining ships, all centering their cannons on him.

Manda let out a roar, then disappeared underwater as a volley of artillery pelted the area.

There was silence. Then the nearest ship began to capsize. As it sank a jawmark clean through the hull became visible.

The second remaining ship was blown apart by Manda's supersonic wave cannon just as the first ship had been.

The third remaining ship was rammed from under the water. A moment later it was rammed once more. This continued until the hull caved in and the vessel sank.

Manda careened his head out above the water, locking his eyes onto the final remaining ship. The ship's cannon aimed toward him. The serpent let out roar before barreling forward.

The cannon locked and fired. Its shell hit point blank against Manda's snout. Manda glanced the shot off, then ripped the ship's one defense away with his teeth.

Manda threw his body over the vessel and proceeded to coil. The dragon slowly increased pressure as the ship's metal dented and groaned. Several crew members attempted to jump ship in desperation, but they were too far out to possibly swim to shore.

The final ship crumpled like a tin can. Manda left no survivors.

Theorized to be a closely related subspecies, to differentiate from the standard manda variant the JSDF had designated the serpent that battled Godzilla and destroyed multiple fleets Manda Apokalypsis.

What was once a scenic beachside town had become a paradise for the manda species. Humanity was no longer welcome. Reports would have it seem that Manda and the manda species had entered a close knit symbiotic relationship, with the former acting as the latter's guardian, in spite of the latter growing to eclipse him in size.

The public was forced to evacuate for their safety, as Manda was fully capable of crawling onto land.

Any ship that strayed too close to Manda's waters was never heard from again. Military efforts to combat the guardian dragon proved ineffectual. Manda's scales were not only impenetrable to conventional weaponry, but also absorbed radio waves, ensuring he was undetectable underwater.

Even the Orthogonal Diagonalizer provided no results, as Manda's body contained no trace of archetype.

Any hope of reclaiming the area was eventually abandoned. The beach was declared a restricted habitat and heavily guarded, and the territory became carefully monitored.

The head of Godzilla Aquatilis remained overlooking the ocean, as if it were some form of warning to potential competitors. One Hazard team that had been sent to investigate the territory during the night, and returned alive, claimed the head's eyes reacted to the light of their flashlights.

Another underdog battle, this time featuring the most fearsome incarnation of Manda (from the anime trilogy prequel novel, Godzilla: Monster Apocalypse), vs the Singular Point himself Godzilla Aquatilis, from Godzilla: Singular Point.

Godzilla Aquatilis doesn't really show any special abilities in Singular Point aside from archetype production before he enters his next stage as Godzilla Amphibia, so I took some creative liberties and gave him one I felt would be fitting within the context of the show. Aquatilis' cavitation bubbles are based off of Little Godzilla's atomic bubbles, similar to how Godzilla Terrestris' attack was based off of Minilla's smoke rings. His weakness to sonic frequencies is extrapolated from the fact he was designed after Titanosaurus.

Manda's abilities are all canon to Godzilla: Monster Apocalypse, that being his Super Sonic Wave Cannon, his heavily resistant scales, and his ability to absorb radio waves (a generic ability among kaiju in the anime trilogy continuity).
