Chapter 5 A new… friend?

After leaving the bank Haven remembered the little. Issue of having Tom (as she refused to utter the ridiculousness that was Voldemort) having left, something, in her scar but she knew it wouldn't cause her issues for the moment and that the goblins wouldn't be able to remove it safely until her body reached the age of eleven and her core was more stable. So all in all it did not really matter. She knew she wasn;t the only piece of Tom that existed, she knew it was serious dark magic and that even though not all dark magic was bad this sort definitely was but besides that she knew little else about it.

Sticking to the shadows Haven quickly creeped to the nearest alley and ducked inside and after making sure no one else was around she called out

"Kreacher."

A small pop echoed throughout the alley.

"Who has summoned Kreacher. Poor mistress has just been buried and already nasty new master has called Kreacher."

Well.. he wasn't wrong she had seen her lovely grandmother's burial in a vision earlier today but she was so excited to get instruction in magic that she hadn't thought to think about Kreacher's feelings… wow she was not having a good day for thinking ahead was she? THinking on her feet she thought of something that might just soften his opinion of her and get him on her side.

"Well met Kreacher, i am Haven Lily Potter-Black-Peverell and your current mistress as a heir Black. I am deeply sorry for the loss of my Grandma Walburga but i was being raised by muggles and could not safely write or visit her before this time as i am being monitored."

Not a total lie, the Headmaster ah Dumbly something was monitoring her just not so closely that she couldn;t leave privet drive for a few days without suspicion.

"Mistress? Poor heir black was being raised by filthy muggles? New mistress be saying Mistress Walburga be her grandmother bur Kreacher knows Master Regulus had no children."

"I was blood adopted by Sirius Kreacher, but worry not i do not share all his views on dark magic or the house of Black as a whole."

Again not a total lie, she did think some members were just plain evil and needed to go but she didn't think the whole family was rotten, just misguided.

"Broke Mistresses heart he did but Kreacher will let Mistress decide what to do with new heir he will. Will new mistress come with Kreacher?"

Bingo! That's exactly what she wanted, she needed into Grimmauld place for the knowledge it contained and the potential tutors, even if they were dead. Holding out her hand she nodded to Kreacher and with a 'pop' they were gone..

Appearing at number 12 Grimmauld place Haven looked around, it was clean she supposed Kreacher hadn;t had years to be alone and go completely crazy yet and abandon his duties like he had in so many of her visions.

"Kreacher will take new mistress to mistress now."

Following the house elf to the end of the hallway just off the kitchen and by stairs Haven was unsurprised to see a portrait of who she could only guess was the infamous Walburga. Bracing herself for shrieks she had heard many a time she was pleasantly surprised when a calm voice reached her instead.

"And who might you be child, you know it is rather rude to conceal oneself in another's house."

RIght her hood was still up, taken it down she also released her hair from its earlier confines of a tight bun and let her waves of pure white hair fall loosely to her mid back.

"Well met Lady Walburga, i am Haven Lily Potter-Black-Peverell, heir Black as well as Lady to the houses of Potter and Peverell."

SHe emphasized this by showing the portrait her ring.

As a nod to her upbringing Walburga only let out a small gasp before regaining her composure and nodding to herself.

"Sirius or Rrgulus?"

"Sirius Lady Walburga though as i said to Kreacher i do not share his views on dark magic or the house of black."

"And what would you know of his views.. For that matter how would you know? My traitor son has been locked away in azkaban for the past seven years."

Damnnit Haven think, you need to remember to think! Signing to herself she found herself at a crossed roads she could trust her grandmother or she could lie about reading about him maybe? Suddenly her vision shifted and she saw herself older and wiser listening to a strange portrait explain to her intricacies about being a seer she could not yet understand. When she came back to herself Walburga was looking at her strangely Knowing what road to choose she looked back at the portrait and began.

"I am a seer. From what i can tell a rather powerful one. I was raised by muggles who hate me but i managed to win them a lot of money and continue to help them out with things by using my gift so they treat me better though they do not love me it is far better then the harsh abuse i saw coming my way if i did nothing."

"A cunning move for one so young.. It has been decided you shall shall stay here away from those filth. I will instruct you to be a proper heir and lady to the house of Black. Kreacher prepare the heir suite for the young one. Also you shall address me as Grandmother, it is only appropriate."

"Many thanks Grandmother though i can not accept your more then generous offer to live here i will gladly come as often as i can to be tutored by you. I do not turn down the offer of housing because i do not wish to live her but rather because i am being monitored by the headmaster of hogwarts. He thinks there are blood wards on the house that will protect me though they fell a long time ago."

Haven could tell her grandmother was thinking through all she had said so she gave her the time to get her thoughts in order before she asked for help in what she really came for.

"Very well you shall come at least twice a week for eight hours to learn all there is to know."

Sensing an opening Haven took it as a chance to ask about more specific tutoring.

"Grandmother, is there anyway for me to learn more about wandless magic? I have mastered the basic spells but can;t seem to get past that point. Also is there anyway to learn more about my sight and controlling it?"

Haven held her breath as she waited for the response, this is what she had really come her for. Of course she wanted to learn how to function in pureblood society but the magic and controlling her gift was definitely her priority. Seeing a bit of doubt on Walburga's face she quickly performed a few wandless spells for her grandmother and waited. Delight was the reaction she got as it spread across the portraits face.

"Wandless magic at what.. If remember correctly you should be about eight yes? Incredible the house of black shall rise again with such a powerful heir! A full seer and proficient at wandless magic to…"

Haven waited again as her grandmother seemed to be scheming,Haven;s vision suddenly swam with vision of her marrying various men of only one she recognized as her cousin.. Dragon something was it? Before her grandmother could get carried away Haven interrupted her.

"Sorry for the interruption grandmother but i saw what you are planning and must object. THough i do not object to marrying to continue the black line i do know i will marry for love."

Her grandmother seemed to be miffed at this but eventually nodded her agreement.

"Very well, you will spend your days here learning etiquette, languages: latin for spells, bulgarian and russian in the off chance i can convince you to go to Durmstrang and finally french. You will also learn the basics of political workings and how to navigate high society. As for your other request i believe you will find the answers to your sight in the library, another portrait you can find in the dueling room will help you with wandless magic."

Grinning happily Haven ran to get a chair so she could begin her lessons with her grandmother.

"A lady does not run!"

"Sorry grandmother."

Haven slowed down but her grin remained.

A few hours later Haven found herself in the library with a mental list of the books her grandmother wanted her to read before their next meeting on the following weekend. She had already made a detour to the dueling room where her tutor (a jovial portrait of an sirius from times long pasts) had told her that she had likely reached a plateau due to her young age BUT that she could push past this by practicing for longer consecutive hours. So now she was on the hunt Kreacher following dutifully behind his "lovely little mistress' as he had deemed her once she had gained Walburga's approval. Hmm i think i might have made a friend Haven thought, her first friend ever unless you counted the spiders from her old cupboard as 'friends'. As she found the books: dark curses for beginners, several books on prominent families, a theory book about seers (she was really excited for this one), and finally the basic primars for the four languages she'd be learning she felt a slight tug on her magic, like something was calling for her.

Haven having decided she was safe enough having had no death visions and with Kreacher right beside her followed the tug after putting the books into one of Regulus's old bookbags that had been charmed not only featherlight but with expansion charms as well. She went further and further back into the shelves, the books getting darker and visibly older as she did before reaching the very back off the library. Kreacher seemed nervous and reminded his mistress that she was not to touch any books her as she was still to young, Haven couldn;t helo herself though as she reached out to a book that seemed to have strange squiggles on it that shifted into english when she concentrated on it. It had a rather simply yet confusing title, ' Paresel magic for the paresel mage'. What was a parseltongue though and further more why was her magic reacting to this book? Shrugging Haven ignored Kreacher's squeak and grabbed the book keeping it out as she headed back to ask her grandmother about the strange book.

"Grandmother?"

"Yes Haven?"

"Whats Parseltongue? And why did this book call to me?"

Holding out the book for the portrait to see and was surprised when the stoic lady looked at her with wide eyes once more.

"Haven.. Have you ever.. Have you ever talked to snakes before? Or any other reptile?"

"Hmm, yes i often talked to the garter snakes when gardening but they are rather dull."

Walburga seemed to compose herself before she broke out into a huge grin, this would be a huge boon to the ouse of black and great magic to infuse into future heirs in the bloodline.
