The moon hung low in the sky, casting long shadows on the cobblestone path as Lilith and Steve silently walked. Their footsteps echoed in the cool night air, with only the distant sound of crickets filling the quiet. Ahead loomed the triangular-shaped house, its sharp angles and eerie stillness seeming almost otherworldly, just like everything else about her family. Lilith's jaw tightened as they neared her childhood home. She had dreaded this moment for days but knew she had to confide in Steve before they knocked on the door. Lilith finally broke the silence, her voice sharp but strained.

Lilith: I saw him with my own eyes. Vanitas. He took off his helmet.

Steve glanced at her, brow furrowed, but said nothing, waiting for her to continue.

Lilith: It was Sora's face...

She spat the name as if it were poison on her tongue.

Lilith: Same features, same smug expression. Except for black hair and yellow eyes. But the same face. There's no coincidence, Steve. Sora and Vanitas—they're one and the same. He's toying with us, playing both sides for his own twisted amusement.

Steve: *eyes widened* You're sure about this?

Lilith: Positive.

Lilith's pace quickened as her anger simmered.

Lilith: It all makes sense now. How could I not have seen it before? Sora leaves, and almost immediately, Vanitas shows up. The timing is too perfect. And the way he—

Her voice faltered, her hand unconsciously brushing over her face, a reminder of their last encounter.

Lilith: The way he brutalized me...in that monstrous transformation of his...it gave off the same feeling I got from Vanitas.

Steve frowned, trying to process the revelation.

Steve: But why? Why would he do that? Play both sides?

Lilith: To watch us dance like fools for his entertainment!

Lilith's tone grew venomous.

Lilith: It's a game to him. A sick game. And I fell for it…we all did.

They walked in tense silence for a few moments before Steve spoke again, more quietly this time.

Steve: If that's true… we're in more trouble than we realized. Vanitas—Sora—whatever he calls himself is nuts.

Lilith: *nodded grimly* And it doesn't stop there.

Steve raised an eyebrow, silently urging her on.

Lilith: Belos...

Her tone became dark, her voice barely above a whisper.

Lilith: He never intended to heal Eda's curse. It was a lie. He was just using me, using my desperation, to do his dirty work.

Steve stopped in his tracks.

Steve: What?

Lilith: I overheard him... The promise of healing Eda was just a way to control me. To keep me loyal. And I was too blind to see it until now.

Steve shook his head in disbelief.

Steve: But…why? Why string you along like that?

Lilith: Because I was useful.

Lilith's voice was raw with regret.

Lilith: But now I see the truth. Eda was never going to be cured. Belos never sympathized. We were just pawns in his grand plan.

Steve's fists clenched at his sides.

Steve: That bastard...

As they approached the house's front door, the triangular silhouette looming large before them, Lilith's breath hitched. She had always felt the weight of her family's legacy bearing on her, but now, it seemed heavier than ever.

They stopped at the door. Steve reached out to knock but hesitated.

Steve: Will you tell them? About Sora…and Belos?

Lilith: Belos, yes. Sora, no. I don't wanna to give my parents any more grief than I'll already give.

Steve nodded, then knocked. The sound echoed through the quiet night. They stood in the stillness, waiting for someone to answer.

The door creaked open, revealing an elderly female witch.

The elderly witch has pale skin, a violet-colored lower lip, olive-green eyes, and rounded-out facial features, such as pronounced dimples and a ball chin. Like all witches on the Isles, her ears are pointed and facing out to her sides. Her hair is mostly light gray, with the exception of two patches of white on her sides. She wears her hair in a symmetrical neck-length style, standing upwards on the sides and on top with two locks falling around her cheeks. Despite her chubby appearance, her body is actually well-toned, with strong biceps and scars to complement her training. Her right forearm bares a Beast Keeping Coven sigil, thus denoting her as a member of that Coven. Her fingernails are long and painted in violet nail polish.

The woman stood in the doorway, her eyes widening in pleasant surprise as she saw Lilith and Steve standing on her doorstep.

Elderly Woman: Lilith!

Her voice was warm, though a hint of curiosity lingered beneath it.

Elderly Woman: And Steve! What a surprise.

Lilith: Hello, mother.

Steve: Hiya, Gwendolyn. Long time no see.

She glanced between them, her eyes softening as they lingered on the two.

Gwendolyn: It's been so long since you came to visit. What are you two doing here so late? Shouldn't you be with the Emperor's Coven?

Lilith hesitated, her eyes flicking to Steve briefly before answering.

Lilith: I… I've come to talk. There are things I need to confess and… things you need to know.

Gwendolyn's expression shifted, concern clouding her eyes, but she nodded.

Gwendolyn: Of course, dear. Come in. We'll talk.

She stepped aside, motioning for them to enter.

Lilith and Steve exchanged a grateful look before stepping over the threshold.

Lilith: Thank you, Mother.

Her voice carried a weight of gratitude and regret. Steve followed closely behind, his eyes sweeping over the familiar surroundings as they entered the house.

The living room was cozy, filled with warm lighting and old, well-worn furniture. The scent of herbs lingered in the air, reminding Lilith of the simpler days of her childhood. Gwendolyn motioned for them to sit on the deep, cushioned couch as she sat in her favorite armchair across from them.

Steve smiled, looking around the room with nostalgia.

Steve: It almost feels like the old days back in Hexside.

Gwendolyn smiled at Steve, a twinkle of amusement in her eyes.

Gwendolyn: Yes, it has been quite a while, hasn't it? You two used to come here all the time, back when things were…simpler. *to Lilith* Still dyeing your hair, I see. Well, it's very sleek.

Lilith: Yes... Is father here?

Gwendolyn: Oh no. He's out with some old friends. It's poker night for him.

Lilith sat on the couch, the weight of her decisions pressing heavily on her shoulders. She folded her hands in her lap, her fingers twisting together as if she were trying to find the right words. Steve stood momentarily, glancing at her with quiet support before settling beside her.

Lilith: Mother...

Lilith began, her voice steady but low.

Lilith: I must tell you the truth about what I've done. And about the current situation with the Emperor's Coven. It's… it's a lot.

Gwendolyn's eyes softened, though the concern in them deepened. She leaned forward slightly, her attention fully on Lilith.

Gwendolyn: Go on, sweet flea. I'm listening.

[End Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days OST -At Dusk, I Will Think Of You]

Lilith took a deep breath, her gaze falling to the floor momentarily.

Lilith: I've been working under Emperor Belos for years. I believed in his promises. His power. I thought he could help me…help Eda. He promised to heal her curse if I brought her to him.

Gwendolyn's face tightened at the mention of Eda's curse, but she remained silent, letting Lilith continue.

Lilith: But it was all a lie.

Her voice trembling with frustration and guilt.

Lilith: Belos never intended to heal Eda. He was using me, manipulating me the entire time. I've been a pawn in his plans. And I—I hurt Eda because of it. I betrayed her.

Gwendolyn's expression didn't waver, though a sadness crept into her eyes.

Gwendolyn: Wha-what do you mean?

Lilith: Do you remember...the Coven Day tryouts?

Gwendolyn: Yes.

Lilith sighs, ready to reveal everything.

Lilith: Well...it all began...the night before...

And so, Lilith then revealed everything to her mother, about how she found the cursed scroll in the Night Market, about how she used it to curse Eda, about how she intended to decrease Eda's magic power for a day so she could pass the tryouts, all the battles she had with Eda to try to take her to Belos up to now, minus Sora and the others of course. Finally, Lilith asked if she and Steve could stay with them to hide from Belos and plan her next move on how to reach Eda.

Gwendolyn sat back in her chair, eyes narrowing slightly as she processed everything Lilith had told her. Her fingers tapped lightly on the armrest, her lips pursed in thought. After a few moments, she leaned forward again, speaking carefully as if piecing the story together.

Gwendolyn: If I hear correctly, you're saying Emperor Belos manipulated you. He never intended to cure Eda's curse and only used your loyalty and service. And because of that, you're here asking for my help to hide from the Emperor's Coven and plan your next move with Edalyn.

Lilith swallowed hard, her heart pounding in her chest.

Lilith: Yes, Mother. I had no idea Belos was lying to me. But now that I see the truth, I must do everything I can to help Eda...and to make amends.

Gwendolyn studied her momentarily, then sighed, a flicker of sympathy passing through her eyes.

Gwendolyn: Lilith... I know you've carried the weight of Eda's curse with you for years, but this… this is so much worse than I imagined.

Lilith's voice cracked with desperation as she leaned forward.

Lilith: I know. Please, Mother, I need your help. Steve and I have nowhere else to go. We just need time to figure out our next step. I can fix this. I will fix this.

The room fell into an uneasy silence. Gwendolyn's gaze lingered on Lilith, her face a mixture of sadness, disappointment, and something darker—something Lilith rarely saw in her mother. Sensing the tension, Steve shifted uncomfortably in his seat but remained silent. After what felt like an eternity, Gwendolyn spoke, her voice low but firm.

Gwendolyn: No, Lilith.

Lilith blinked, her breath catching in her throat.

Lilith: What?

Gwendolyn's face was calm, but her eyes burned with restrained anger.

Gwendolyn: I said no. You cannot stay here.

Lilith: But—Mother—

Gwendolyn: I understand you're in a difficult situation, Lilith, and I somewhat sympathize with you and Steve.

Gwendolyn's voice remained measured, though the tightness in her jaw betrayed her emotions.

Gwendolyn: But that doesn't change the fact that everything that's happened...is all your fault.

Lilith flinched as if struck, her hands tightening in her lap.

Lilith: I never meant for it to go this far—

Gwendolyn: And yet it did. You betrayed your own sister, and for what? For a false victory? A false promise from Belos? You made your choices, Lilith, terrible choices, and now you want me to shelter you?

Lilith's throat tightened, and she struggled to find her voice.

Lilith: I'm trying to fix things. I know I made mistakes, but I can make it right. I just need time.

Gwendolyn: It feels like you're asking me to ignore the fact that you cursed Edalyn, your own sister...

Gwendolyn's voice trembled slightly as she fought to restrain her anger.

Gwendolyn: How am I supposed to trust you? How am I supposed to believe that this time you'll fix things?

Lilith's eyes welled up with tears, her voice small and pleading.

Lilith: Mother, please—

Gwendolyn stood abruptly, her hands trembling as she clenched them into fists at her sides.

Gwendolyn: I cannot do this, Lilith. I cannot abide by this, no matter how much you claim to regret them. You've hurt your family and broken my trust. And now you come here, begging me for shelter?

The room seemed to shrink around Lilith as she stared at her mother, her heart sinking.

Lilith: But I—

Gwendolyn cut her off, her voice softer now though the anger still simmered beneath.

Gwendolyn: I'm sorry. I love you, Lilith. But you need to leave. And you're not to come back.

The finality of the words hit Lilith like a blow, and for a moment, she couldn't breathe. Steve, who had been silent until now, cleared his throat, trying to intervene.

Steve: Gwendolyn, I didn't know about any of this until recently. If I had, I would've tried to stop her—

Gwendolyn turned to Steve, her face softening slightly.

Gwendolyn: I know, Steve. I don't hold this against you. You've always been Lilith's responsible and trusted friend, and I'm sorry you've been dragged into this. But my answer stands.

Steve lowered his head, nodding in understanding.

Lilith, on the verge of breaking down, stood from the couch.

Lilith: *whispering* I didn't mean for things to end this way.

Gwendolyn's expression softened briefly, a flicker of the maternal warmth Lilith longed for, but it quickly faded.

Gwendolyn: Sometimes intentions aren't enough, Lilith. You need to face the consequences of your choices.

Tears streamed down Lilith's face as she nodded weakly, knowing there was nothing more she could say.

Lilith: I'm sorry.

Without another word, Lilith turned and headed for the door, her heart heavy with guilt and loss. Steve followed close behind, closing the door behind them.

As they stepped out into the cold night, Lilith wiped her eyes, her mind swirling with regret and the overwhelming weight of her failures. Steve remained silent for a moment before finally speaking.

Steve: Hey, it's gonna be ok.

His voice was quiet, though he lacked its usual confidence.

Lilith didn't answer, the enormity of what had just happened sinking deeper into her soul. She felt the loss of a home she knew she might never return to.

Lilith walked in silence, her steps slow and heavy. The weight of her mother's words hung over her like a dark cloud, and the rejection stung in a way she hadn't expected. She wiped away the lingering tears, her voice hoarse as she spoke.

Lilith: I should've expected this. I've done too much damage. I can't blame her for turning me away.

Steve walked beside her, his hand resting on her shoulder.

Steve: Lilith, don't beat yourself up. You've made mistakes, sure, but we'll figure this out.

His voice was steady, comforting in the cold night air.

Steve: I know a place we can go.

Lilith glanced at him, a hint of curiosity breaking through her sorrow.

Lilith: Where?

Steve offered her a small, reassuring smile.

Steve: My place.

She blinked, confused.

Lilith: Your place?

Steve: Yeah. I'll show you.

He looked around cautiously before summoning his staff.

Steve: Follow my lead and fly low. The Emperor's Coven might be looking for us.

Lilith nodded, his expression turning warm as she gripped her staff, and the two began to fly. They kept close to the ground, weaving between trees and staying under the cover of the night sky. The wind was cold against Lilith's face, but the quiet hum of the staff and the steady flight calmed her frayed nerves. The two were methodical, ensuring they weren't spotted, and after a while, they landed in front of a remote house surrounded by dense forest. Behind it, a tall tower loomed in the shadows.

Lilith took in the sight of the house, her brow furrowing.

Lilith: This is your home?

Steve shrugged, giving her a modest smile.

Steve: Sort of. This is a place I built on my own. Needed somewhere to get away from the city when things got too crazy.

Lilith looked around, her confusion turning to cautious admiration.

Lilith: It's…hidden well. I doubt even the Coven wouldn't find this place. I don't even recall any records of patrols being within this vicinity.

Steve: That's the point. *resting the staff beside him* No one, not even the Emperor's Coven, knows about this place. I picked this spot specifically to stay off the radar.

Lilith let out a long breath, feeling a small sense of relief.

Lilith: Huh...

Steve: I don't tell a lot of people. But now, it's yours too, for as long as you need it.

Lilith stared at him for a moment, feeling a rush of gratitude.

Lilith: Thank you, Steve. I don't know what I'd do without you.

Steve held Lilith's shoulder, then gently hugged her, slightly catching her off guard.

Steve: You don't have to do it alone. We'll figure this out together. And just know... Even if everyone in the Boiling Isles turns against you, know that I'll always remain by your side. Remember that.

Lilith welled up in tears as she returned the hug.

Lilith: I will.

The morning light filtered through the small windows of Steve's hidden house, casting soft rays over Lilith as she stirred awake. The weight of the previous night's conversation with her mother still lingered, but the safety and quiet of Steve's sanctuary brought her a sense of calm. She stretched, feeling a bit more at ease, and after a few moments, she decided to get up and take a shower.

The hot water helped wash away the tension in her body, and Lilith felt a little better when she was dressed. She walked into the kitchen, following the warm smell of breakfast, and saw Steve standing at the stove, cooking scrambled griffon eggs and toasting bread.

He turned and smiled at her.

Steve: Morning. I figured we'd both need a good meal today.

Lilith smiled back, feeling a swell of gratitude.

Lilith: Thank you, Steve. I really appreciate this.

Steve placed the plates on the table, each with a serving of griffon eggs, toast, and a glass of milk.

Steve: I know yesterday was rough. But we've got to stay focused on what comes next.

As they sat down to eat, Lilith nodded, taking a bite of her breakfast.

Lilith: You're right.

Lilith: I've been thinking about what we should do next. I need to find a way to warn Eda about Sora—about him and Vanitas being the same person. But I can't risk drawing his attention while doing it.

Steve: Yeah, if Sora's been playing both sides, who knows what he'd do if he found out we're onto him.

Lilith shuddered, pushing her eggs around her plate.

Lilith: That's what scares me. He'll make his move if he even suspects I'm trying to warn Eda. And I don't know what kind of harm he could do to her.

Her voice wavered slightly, the fear evident in her words.

Lilith: I can't let that happen.

Steve reached out and placed a hand over hers.

Steve: We'll find a way. We'll just have to be careful. But there's got to be a way to get her the message without tipping him off.

Lilith gave a small nod, though the unease lingered in her mind.

Lilith: *sigh* No doubt Sora is already working hard and plotting his next cruel scheme.

Meanwhile, at the Owl House, Sora sat at the kitchen table, the soft glow of a crystal ball illuminating his face. His head was lowered enough for his bangs to cover his eyes, leaving only a small smile visible. He stared at the crystal ball, waiting for the call to connect. Soon, three familiar faces popped into view—Amity, Willow, and Gus. They smiled warmly, but their expressions quickly shifted to mild discomfort.

Amity: Hey, Sora! Sorry, but I can't come over today. My mom's got me doing extra studies to ensure I don't slack off, and I won't be free until tomorrow.

Willow: *nods* Same here. My dads have me helping out in the garden. I've been busy all day, and I'm pretty exhausted.

Gus: My dad and I are expecting a call from my mom. After that, I'll be going out with my dad to do some shopping.

Sora chuckled softly, not making any movements.

Sora: It's ok, guys. I understand.

But something about Sora's voice was off—calm but with an undercurrent of something else. His smile lingered a little too long, his eyes too sharp. Amity, Willow, and Gus exchanged uneasy glances.

Amity's brow furrowed.

Amity: Sora... is everything alright? You seem...different.

Willow: Yeah...

Sora's smile didn't falter. He simply shrugged, leaning back casually.

Sora: Oh, nothing. I just have some...business...to take care of. I'll see you guys tomorrow.

Gus: Business?

Sora: Hmph. Don't worry about it.

His tone was so casual it was unsettling. Before anyone could press further, Sora ended the call, the crystal ball dimming into darkness. Sora stood up, his footsteps echoing softly in the silent hallway as he approached the living room.

Sora stood in the center of the living room, arms crossed, looking down at Luz, King, and Eda seated on the couch. They were shifting nervously under his intense gaze.

Sora: *smirking* Alright, guys. Which one of you did it?

Luz blinked innocently.

Luz: W-what are you talking about?

Eda leaned back, being cautious.

Eda: You're gonna have to be specific.

King, sitting between them, also leaned back.

King: What they said?

A tiny spark of magic flickered between his fingers.

Sora: Thunder.

A light jolt of electricity arced from his fingertips, just enough to cause a tickling sensation, first hitting Luz. She let out a surprised squeal, squirming as the tingly magic made her laugh uncontrollably.

Sora: I left a large ice cream sandwich in the fridge yesterday to save for today. When I went to check, it was suddenly gone. Now, I ask...who did it? Who ate it?

Luz: *laughing* ok! Ok, stop! That tickles!

Sora grinned, moving his hand toward King.

Sora: Your turn, little buddy.

King: Wait, no, no, no—!

King yelped as the tiny sparks hit him, sending him into hysterical giggles, rolling on the couch as he tried to escape the playful interrogation.

King: *laughing* I swear! I swear it wasn't me!

Sora slowly turned to Eda.

Sora: Eeedaaaaa...

Eda: Woah, kiddo! Come on! Holster the sparks! Let's talk this out—

Eda held up her hands, but Sora didn't hesitate. With a small zap, he sent her into a fit of uncontrollable laughter as well, even sliding off the couch and rolling all over the floor.

Sora: We can do this all day, you guys.

Eda: *laughing* Alright! Alright! Enough with the sparks, kiddo! I didn't do it!

Sora narrowed his eyes, stopping the Thunder spell while looking over the three of them as they caught their breath.

Sora: Then who did?

The trio exchanged glances, then, almost in unison, pointed behind Sora.

Busted.

Kairi's eyes widened in realization as Sora's gaze locked onto her, the playful mischief clear in his expression. She stood up straight, wiping the crumbs from her mouth hastily.

Kairi: Um...I can explain?

Still smiling mischievously, Sora summoned his tiny dose of Thunder in his hand again, signaling to Kairi what would happen next.

Sora: Since I love you, I'll give you a head start.

Kairi was off, sprinting out the door with a laugh. The trio called out to her as they watched Kairi disappear down the path outside.

Luz/King/Eda: RUN! RUN LIKE THE WIND!

Lilith and Steve finished the last of their breakfast, the meal helping to bring some sense of normalcy to the strange and uncertain situation they found themselves in. Lilith set her fork down and wiped her mouth with a napkin, her mind still racing about contacting Eda without drawing Sora's attention.

Lilith: I think I need to get out for a bit.

Lilith's voice sounded tentative.

Lilith: A walk around Bonesborough might clear my head. And think of ways to reach Eda without risking Sora finding out.

Steve hesitated, his brows knitting together in concern.

Steve: Are you sure that's a good idea? If anyone from the Coven sees us…

Lilith: *sigh* I know, but I can't just sit here and do nothing.

Steve studied her for a moment, then nodded.

Steve: That's ok, but we'll need to be careful. Let's use illusion stones just to be safe.

Lilith gave a small smile, grateful for his support.

Lilith: Good idea.

Steve fetched two illusion stones from a drawer, handing one to Lilith.

Steve: These should keep us from being recognized. Just…try not to draw too much attention.

With their disguises in place, the two set off toward Bonesborough. The bustling streets of the town, filled with market stalls and familiar sights, brought Lilith a strange mix of comfort and melancholy. She walked in silence, her thoughts drifting back through the years—back to the days when she and Eda were inseparable.

They had been the best duo once. Always working together, always having fun together, losing the bond of sisterhood. Until…until Lilith had chosen power and ambition over everything else. She thought of the moment Eda disowned her; the pain of that rejection seared into her memory as deeply as the guilt that followed.

As they wandered the town, Lilith saw two young girls running and laughing together, each holding an ice cream cone. The scene slowed her pace, her heart twisting as she watched them. One of the sisters accidentally knocked the other's ice cream to the ground, and immediately, the younger one began to cry. But the other sister, without hesitation, offered her own ice cream in apology. The younger girl accepted, smiling through her tears as they hugged and continued on their way.

Lilith's breath caught in her throat, and she felt an unexpected warmth spread through her chest. She smiled softly, her eyes welling up with tears. In that simple moment between the two sisters, she saw the truth she had been blind to for so long.

It wasn't just about fixing what she had done. It wasn't just about finding a way to cure Eda's curse. No—she had never truly taken responsibility for her actions. She had always thought that fixing the problem would undo the hurt. But now, watching the two little girls, she realized that sometimes it wasn't just about fixing things. It was about owning up to the pain you caused, accepting the consequences, and making amends the hard way.

Lilith: *whispering* I was wrong. I was so focused on trying to fix everything all this time, but I never took responsibility for what I did. I never apologized, never truly owned up to my mistakes. Like Mother said, I need to face the consequences of my choices.

Steve, noticing the shift in her tone, looked at her with concern.

Steve: Lilith?

She wiped her eyes, a new sense of clarity washing over her.

Lilith: I know what I have to do now. It's not just about warning Eda. I have to make amends… and I need to start by apologizing to her.

Steve watched her for a moment, his expression softening.

Steve: That's a brave step, Lilith.

She gave him a small, determined nod.

Lilith: It's the only step that matters right now.

The two continued walking, but Lilith's mind was no longer clouded by doubt. She had a plan, and for the first time in a long while, she knew exactly what she needed to do. As the two wandered, the pleasant murmur of the market and the aroma of street food filled the air. They were searching for a place to grab lunch when Lilith, lost in thought, accidentally bumped into something soft and small. She stumbled slightly and looked down to see a small creature.

Upon closer look, it was small, white, resembling a plush toy, with large, spherical heads, small ears sprouting out of the sides of their heads, and stubby hands and feet that lacked distinct digits. Its eyes are narrowed into brown slits, and their noses are bulbous and pink. It also has tiny, purple bat wings on its back and a large red sphere attached to the top of its head by a thin, brown antenna.

Lilith: Oh! My apologies.

The creature, equally surprised, dropped a small bag, and its contents—a collection of unique-looking coins—spilled all over the ground. The creature immediately scrambled to gather the coins, her little hands moving quickly.

Creature: Oh no, my coins!

Lilith: Let me get those for you.

Lilith knelt down to help, reaching for the scattered coins and handing them back to the creature.

The creature, now holding the gathered coins tightly, looked up at Lilith with a warm, cheerful smile.

Creature: Thank you, kupo!

Lilith and Steve realized that the creature spoke in a female voice. Her voice was calm yet raspy and cheerful, making her presence feel lighthearted. Lilith then smiled, glad to have helped.

Lilith: I'm sorry for bumping into you. I wasn't paying attention.

The creature shook her head, her little sphere bobbing as she spoke.

Creature: No harm done, kupo! You were kind enough to help me. Thank you again!

She pulled a coin from her pouch, offering it to Lilith.

Creature: Here, take this as a token of gratitude.

Lilith looked at the strange coin, intrigued by its design. It shimmered in the light, intricate symbols etched into the surface. She then noticed words engraved on it reading as "Kupo Coin".

Lilith: That's very kind of you. But… what's the purpose of the coin?

The creature's eyes sparkled, and she hovered closer as if sharing a secret.

Creature: It's a good luck charm, kupo! If you keep it on you, luck will always be by your side.

Lilith glanced at Steve, who raised an eyebrow, amused by the encounter. Turning back to the creature, Lilith smiled softly.

Lilith: Thank you. I'll keep it safe.

The creature gave a cheerful nod.

Creature: Good luck to you, kupo! Oh! If you ever wanna look for unique goods, feel free to visit my shop in the marketplace. Byeeee!

With that, she floated away, her sphere bobbing in the air as she disappeared into the crowd.

Lilith watched her go, still holding the strange coin in her hand. The encounter had comforted her as if the universe had nudged her in the right direction.

Steve, standing beside her, chuckled lightly.

Steve: Guess we've got a little more luck on our side now, huh?

Lilith smiled, slipping the coin back into her pocket.

Lilith: Seems like it. Maybe we'll need it.

Lilith and Steve eventually found a small sandwich shop nestled in a quiet corner of Bonesborough. It was the perfect spot to continue their conversation without drawing too much attention. They ordered their food and sat by the window, the soft chatter of other patrons creating a calming backdrop.

As they ate, Lilith sipped her drink and leaned forward.

Lilith: I've been thinking… about making things right with Eda.

Steve looked at her curiously, taking a bite of his sandwich.

Steve: What's your plan?

Lilith took a deep breath.

Lilith: First, I have to acknowledge to her about Belos lying to me about everything. Then, I need to properly apologize for the curse and everything—for betraying her trust. I think… I've been running from that responsibility for too long. I need to own up to it, face her, and accept whatever consequences come from that.

Steve nodded, his eyes thoughtful.

Steve: It's a good start. But what about warning her about Sora? You said you didn't want to risk getting his attention.

Lilith: That's the hard part. I want to warn her, but I need to do it carefully. Maybe through a letter or a message delivered through someone else, someone Sora wouldn't suspect is connected to me. He'll be on us instantly if he finds out, and Eda could be in danger.

Steve considered this as he ate.

Steve: It's risky, but it just might work.

Lilith nodded, grateful for his support.

Lilith: I know of a way to alleviate Eda's curse.

Steve: Really? How?

Lilith: With a spell, I know. With it, I can—

Sitting on a bench outside, not far from the shop, were none other than Sora and Kairi. Kairi, pouting, had handcuffs on her wrists while Sora held out his Gummiphone in front of them, grinning. Lilith's stomach lurched at the sight.

Lilith: *whispering* Steve. Look.

Steve followed her gaze and immediately tensed.

Steve: *whispering* Sora. What's he doing there? *notices Kairi* Wait, isn't that the girl we had at the castle?

Lilith frowned, her mind racing with possibilities.

Lilith: *whispering* It is... Why is she in handcuffs? What's he doing to her?

Steve: *whispering* I don't know, but let's wait and see. Whatever it is, I doubt it's anything really bad. Especially since they're in public.

Lilith kept her eyes on Sora and Kairi as they continued to chat. Steve leaned closer to the window, watching cautiously. They couldn't hear what was being said, but it didn't take long to solve the mystery.

On Sora's Gummiphone screen, the faint image of Riku appeared—they were video chatting.

Sora laughed, holding up the Gummiphone.

Sora: I had to arrest Kairi for stealing my ice cream sandwich.

Kairi groaned, rolling her eyes as she glanced at the screen.

Kairi: Come on, Riku! Tell him to let me go already!

Riku's voice, faint but audible through the glass, responded with a playful grin.

Riku: First off, I'm happy for you two. About time you two got together.

Sora: Thaaank you.

Kairi flushed a little, clearly embarrassed.

Kairi: Riku!

Riku: But as for the cuffs... *chuckling* I've got to side with Sora on this one. If you can't do the time, don't do the crime.

Kairi threw her hands up, exasperated, while Sora laughed and leaned closer to the phone.

Sora: See? Even Riku agrees.

Kairi sticks her tongue out in annoyance.

Lilith let out a slow breath, the tension easing from her shoulders.

Lilith: So… they're just playing around?

Steve leaned back in his chair, a small smile tugging at his lips.

Steve: Looks like it. I guess Sora's not up to any dark schemes with that girl after all.

Lilith: At least for now...

Steve nodded, finishing his sandwich.

Lilith felt a mix of relief and frustration. Part of her had expected something sinister, given everything she knew about Sora—or thought she knew. But seeing him like this, joking with his friends, made her question everything again. Looking at Kairi, Lilith remembered what she had done to her that night at the castle, feeling guilty. She is someone that Lilith would need to apologize to, too.

Steve: It's possible. But that doesn't mean we should let our guard down. He's still unpredictable.

Lilith agreed, her thoughts now swirling in even more uncertainty. Sora was still a threat to her, but moments like these made him harder to understand. All she could do now was focus on her own mission—making things right with Eda and preparing for whatever was coming next.

As Lilith and Steve sat in the sandwich shop, Lilith's eyes followed Sora and Kairi through the window, her mind racing. And it was then that I realized that this was the moment. Sora was distracted outside the Owl House and engrossed in his playful banter with Kairi. If ever there was a time to warn Eda, it was now.

She straightened up in her chair, a determined look crossing her face.

Lilith: Steve, this is it. I can warn Eda now while Sora's out of the house.

Steve blinked, setting down his cup.

Steve: You sure about this? What's the plan?

Lilith summoned a piece of paper and a quill pen, which appeared before her in a wisp of dark smoke.

Lilith: I'll write a letter—something only Eda would recognize. Something that'll get her attention.

Steve leaned in closer, curious.

Steve: What exactly are you going to write?

Lilith's eyes narrowed, a small smile tugging at her lips.

Lilith: The one thing Eda could never resist.

Without further explanation, she began to scribble across the paper, the quill moving swiftly and deliberately. Steve watched silently, intrigued by whatever Lilith had in mind but trusting her judgment. It didn't take long before she folded the letter neatly and handed it to Steve.

Lilith: Alright. We'll need to deliver this without Sora noticing. And since that house demon never seen your face, plus your disguise...

Steve nodded, understanding immediately.

Steve: I'll deliver it.

Lilith stood, her cloak swirling around her as she gestured for Steve to follow. With a sweep of her hand, she opened a corridor of darkness, the air around it crackling with shadowy energy. Together, they stepped through, vanishing from the sandwich shop and reappearing just outside the Owl House.

Lilith gestured for Steve to approach the door, staying hidden in the shadows as she watched carefully.

Lilith: Go on, just act natural.

Lilith looked around for any sign of Sora or anyone else who might interfere. Steve took a deep breath and cautiously approached the front door, the letter in hand. As he raised his fist to knock, the front door swung open, and Hooty stretched out to meet him. His eyes narrowed suspiciously.

Hooty: Who are yooou?

Thinking fast, Steve adopted a thick, exaggerated accent.

Steve: I, uh, have a letter for Miss Eda Clawthorne, y'see. Very urgent business! Must be delivered right away, huh?

Hooty leaned forward, staring at Steve intently.

Hooty: A letter? For Eda? Oooooh! I can deliver it! Gimme!

Steve handed over the letter, keeping his composure as Hooty quickly snatched it up.

Hooty: Alrighty! I'll get this to her, no problem!

Hooty retreated into the house, his voice echoing faintly as he disappeared inside.

Steve exhaled slowly and backed away from the door, glancing over his shoulder at Lilith, still hidden in the shadows. He gave her a nod, signaling that the plan had worked.

Lilith opened another corridor of darkness without wasting a second, and they quickly slipped through, vanishing before anyone inside could notice them. The two reappeared in a secluded spot outside Bonesborough, the sounds of the town far in the distance.

Lilith's heart raced, a mix of anxiety and relief flooding her senses. She had done it—Eda would receive the letter, and hopefully, she would understand the warning before Sora returned. Now, all they could do was wait.

Hooty wormed his way through the winding halls of the Owl House, his long, stretchy neck snaking its way into the living room where Eda was lounging on the couch.

Hooty: Eda! Edaaaa!

Eda raised an eyebrow at the sudden intrusion.

Eda: What is it now, Hooty?

Hooty: A letter for you!

With a dramatic stretch of his neck toward Eda, Hooty gave her the folded note.

Eda: Oh boy. Wonder what it is?

She unfolded the letter with practiced disinterest, her eyes scanning the text. As she read, her expression shifted from mild curiosity to a mix of suspicion and amusement. It was a love letter, written in flowery language and signed by an anonymous admirer. The note invited her out for drinks at Grimgrub's Pub that evening at 8 PM.

Eda: *muttering* Well, well... *rubbing her chin* A secret admirer, huh?

She tossed the letter on the coffee table with a shrug.

Eda: Last time I met one of these so-called admirers, it turned into a brawl when the guy was a thug looking for easy cash.

Eda chuckled, remembering how she'd sent him flying out the window.

Eda:…free drinks at Grimgrub's might not be so bad. What's the worst that could happen?

Just then, the front door swung open, and Sora walked in, with Kairi trailing behind, still wearing the handcuffs. Eda was amused.

Eda: I see you caught her.

Sora: Yup!

Kairi: *groans* Sora, come on! Let me go already!

Sora grinned, and the cuffs vanished with a snap of his fingers.

Sora: Alright, alright. You're free to go… this time.

Kairi sighed in relief, rubbing her wrists as she walked upstairs.

Sora: And don't let me catch you taking my snacks again.

Kairi: You meanie.

As Kairi disappeared from view, Eda took a teasing jab at Sora.

Eda: You realize you gotta make it up to her, right?

Sora: What?

Eda: A little secret in relationships, kiddo. When a girlfriend is pouty, sometimes the boyfriend must do what they can to make 'em happy again. Even if they are wrong about the littlest of things. Sometimes.

Sora: ...What?

Eda: *smirks* You'll understand as you progress.

Sora: ...Right.

Sora turned his attention to the coffee table and noticed the letter on the table.

Sora: Hey, what's that?

Eda leaned back, putting her feet up on the armrest.

Eda: Oh, just some love letter from a "secret admirer," asking me out for drinks at Grimgrub's tonight. Not the first time I've gotten one, but hey, free drinks, right?

Sora frowned, immediately feeling uneasy.

Sora: Eda, this could be a trap. Remember the last time you met one of these guys? The whole thing turned into a mugging attempt.

Eda: Yeah, yeah.

Eda waved him off, grinning.

Eda: That guy didn't know what hit him. I can handle myself, Sora.

Sora: I know you can. But what if it's something more than that this time? I just don't want you walking into something dangerous. Especially with everything that has happened lately.

Eda's expression softened slightly at Sora's concern.

Eda: Oh, come on, kiddo. I appreciate you looking out for me, but I've got this. Besides, Grimgrub's is one of those places you're too young to get into.

Sora scratched the back of his head, reluctant to let it go but knowing that Eda can sometimes be stubborn.

Sora: Alright, but promise me you'll bolt if anything feels off. I don't want anything bad to happen to you.

Eda gave him a small, genuine smile.

Eda: You're sweet, kiddo. But I'll be fine. This isn't my first rodeo.

Sora sighed and finally relented.

Sora: Ok…just be careful.

Eda laughed, winking at him.

Eda: Careful's my middle name!

Sora: *thinking* Sure it is.

Eda: Now, then. Time for lunch!

Kairi then shouted from upstairs.

Kairi: I want meat!

Eda then winked at Sora with a teasing grin.

Eda: Here's your chance, kiddo. Make your girlfriend happy again.

Sora slouched with a sigh and a chuckle.

Sora: The things I do for love.

Sora left the room and went into the kitchen. But he couldn't shake the uneasy feeling that this so-called "secret admirer" might be trouble. Eda, however, seemed unfazed as she leaned back, contemplating her evening plans at Grimgrub's. Little did she know, the events set in motion tonight would bring her face to face with nothing but trouble.

Night came, and Eda strutted through the bustling streets of Bonesborough, her cloak billowing slightly in the evening breeze. The familiar sounds of the town—the distant chatter and the occasional spell zapping through the air—did little to break her stride. Her destination, Grimgrub's Pub, was just around the corner. She grinned to herself, still thinking about the letter. Maybe this admirer wouldn't be so bad—at the very least, drinks will be involved.

As she neared the pub, the atmosphere suddenly shifted.

The ground beneath her began to tremble, and before she could react, a swirling corridor of darkness opened beneath her feet.

Eda: What the—?!

Eda gasped, reaching out instinctively, but it was too late. She plunged into the abyss, the familiar streets of Bonesborough vanishing instantly.

The next thing she knew, she was falling. Eda hit the ground hard, landing on her posterior in what looked like a dimly lit, abandoned warehouse. Groaning, she rubbed her back and slowly stood up, shaking off the disorientation.

Eda: *muttering* Great. Just great.

Eda was already annoyed at whoever had set this up.

But before she could take another step, metal plates shot out from the shadows, slamming her against the brick wall. She struggled as they pinned her wrists, legs, and abdomen, trapping her in place.

Eda: What the—?!

Dazed but furious, Eda's eyes scanned the room, searching for whoever was responsible. Her vision cleared, and standing before her were two figures she knew all too well: Lilith and Steve.

Lilith stepped forward, her expression a mixture of regret and determination.

Lilith: Eda—

Eda: *snarling* YOU!

Her eyes burned with anger.

Eda: I WARNED YOU WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF YOU SHOWED YOUR FACE TO ME AGAIN AFTER LAST TIME!

Lilith flinched but held her ground.

Lilith: Eda, I know this looks bad and that you're mad—

Eda: "Mad?" "MAD!?" EVERYTHING YOU'VE DONE GOES BEYOND THAT! I SWEAR, WHEN I GET OUT OF THIS, I'LL KILL YOU!

Steve was really taken aback by fear of Eda's level of anger. So was Lilith, but she took a deep breath, trying to maintain her composure.

Lilith: Edalyn, please listen to me. I have something important to say to you, something you need to know. Once I tell you what it is, I'll let you down, and you may do what you wish to me.

Eda harshly glared at Lilith.

Eda: *snarling* Spit it out...

Lilith paused, taking a deep breath.

Lilith: Firstly, I was wrong about Belos. He never intended to heal your curse—he was using me the whole time.

Eda's anger faltered, her eyes narrowing.

Eda: What?

Lilith: I found out the truth. He lied to me, Eda. He never planned to help you. He used and manipulated me into thinking I could simply fix everything if I just did what he wanted.

Lilith's voice cracked slightly, but she steadied herself.

Lilith: You were right about him all along. I should've known.

Eda was momentarily stunned by Lilith's confession. She had always known that Belos couldn't be trusted, but hearing it from her sister caught her off guard.

Lilith glanced at Steve, who gave her a nod of encouragement.

Lilith: That's not all, Eda. There's something else, something bigger. It's about So—

Before she could finish, the metal doors to the warehouse were suddenly blasted open with a powerful force, sending debris flying across the room. Eda's head snapped toward the entrance as two figures stormed in.

Sora and Luz stood in the doorway, their eyes locked onto Lilith and Steve, ready for battle.

Luz: Eda!

Sora: Lilith!

His Keyblade was summoned in his hand, its familiar silver blade glinting in the dim light.

Sora: Step away from Eda!

Her Keyblade glowing with bright energy, Luz took a stance next to Sora.

Luz: Or else!

Eda, still pinned to the wall, raised an eyebrow.

Eda: Well, well, well. If it isn't my rescuers.

Eda smirked despite the situation.

Eda: I could've handled this, but I appreciate the theatrics.

Lilith: How did you—how could you have possibly known we were here!?

Sora: Eda showed me about the letter. I kinda figured it was written to lure her here. She did say she'd go it alone, but I just couldn't shake the worrying feeling I had for her. So, I followed her.

Luz: With me tagging along, just in case. And wouldn't you know, we saw the corridor of darkness taking Eda. After that, it was just a matter of tracking down Eda's magic and a source of concentrated darkness.

Sora: And, of course, we find YOU ambushed Eda.

Eda: *sighs, chuckles* I should've known my kiddo wasn't gonna back down so easily. Though in this case, I'm glad.

Sora's eyes remained locked on Lilith, his grip tightening on his Keyblade.

Sora: Hang tight, Eda. We'll set you free. Right after, we pummel these two. Again!

Lilith's heart sank. This wasn't supposed to happen. She had hoped to explain everything to Eda first, to get her on her side before confronting Sora. But now that the Keyblade wielder and Luz were here, everything had become complicated—dangerously so.

But Lilith also knew that there was no turning back now.

Lilith's hand tightened around her staff as she summoned it into existence. Beside her, Steve mirrored the action, his stance ready for battle. The warehouse's dim light seemed to grow heavier as if preparing for the storm of conflict about to unfold.

Sora's eyes narrowed, his grip on the Keyblade unwavering.

Sora: Ready, Luz?

Luz: Oh yeah.

But before the first blow could land, Lilith raised her voice.

Lilith: Human girl!

Her voice trembling slightly with urgency.

Lilith: Run away from him! Join me and Steve!

The room fell into a perplexing silence.

Luz, stunned, glanced between Lilith and Sora, confusion etched on her face.

Luz: ...Say what?

Eda, still pinned to the wall, furrowed her brow.

Eda: *muttering* Run from Sora? Is she finally losing it?

Sora himself was taken aback, his expression flashing from confusion to frustration.

Sora: Ok... I don't know what your game is here, but—

Lilith: No! I know you're not who you say you are! You never were!

Sora: What are you talking about?

Lilith pointed directly at Sora, her staff crackling with magic.

The warehouse seemed to freeze, the weight of Lilith's accusation hanging in the air like a storm cloud ready to burst. The hearts of Eda and Luz pounded in their chests. Sora's jaw clenched.

Sora/Luz: VANITAS!?

Eda, still reeling from the shock, stared at her disowned sister.

Eda: How...how do you know that name!?

Lilith took a deep breath, lowering her staff slightly as if the weight of the truth was too much to carry.

Lilith: Last night, I overheard a conversation between Emperor Belos and the boy. During that conversation, I heard that Belos never intended to heal Edalyn's curse.

Hearing that shocked Luz and Sora.

Luz: I knew it.

Sora: So, he finally revealed that.

Lilith: They mocked me, labeling me as a pawn. And that's when it happened, Vanitas—you—took off the helmet…and I saw the face—it was exactly the same as Sora's.

Eda, Luz, and Sora's eyes widened even further. Sora's face grew tense, his jaw set, but he remained silent.

Lilith: From there, everything started to add up...

Lilith went on, her voice filled with a mix of fear and conviction.

Lilith: It wasn't just the face. It was the timing. Right after Sora leaves the Emperor's castle, Vanitas shows up. And the way you fought the boy that day when he beat me into a bloody pulp—

Sora, Eda, and Luz winced at the memory of that moment. Lilith's voice cracked with emotion, the memory still fresh.

Lilith: That rage…it felt the same. The same dark power I saw in Vanitas.

Steve, standing beside Lilith, nodded grimly.

Steve: It all fits. You've been toying with both sides, haven't you? Playing us all for fools.

Eda: W-wait, Lilith. Just so we're clear, describe Vanitas's entire head. Specifically in color.

Lilith: Black hair and yellow eyes.

Eda, Luz, and Sora became even more shocked, knowing full well this doesn't bode well.

Lilith: That's why I lured you, Edalyn. I get you don't trust me and hate me, but you and those human girls are in danger, so long as you're near the boy. I wanted to warn you. The boy has been manipulating both sides for his own sick amusement!

Eda, Luz, and Sora couldn't believe what they were hearing. Not only is Vanitas back, but apparently, he is now working with Belos, and Lilith believes that he and Sora are the same person. Still pinned to the wall but defiant as ever, Eda shook her head.

Eda: Lilith... you're wrong. Sora is not Vanitas! They're two different people!

Luz stepped up, her expression conflicted but firm.

Luz: Yeah! Sora's saved Eda, myself, and other people over and over! Vanitas is a monster!

Sora: They're telling the truth! Listen to them!

Lilith shook her head, her grip tightening on her staff.

Before Sora could respond, the air around them thickened with an ominous energy. A swirling corridor of darkness appeared in the center of the room, sending chills down everyone's spines. From the shadowy portal, a figure stepped out—identical to Sora but with black hair and gleaming yellow eyes.

Vanitas had arrived.

The moment he appeared, the tension in the room skyrocketed. Steve, who had been ready to stand by Lilith's side in battle, stumbled backward in shock. His eyes darted between Sora and Vanitas, now standing mere feet apart.

Steve: What the—two of them!?

Lilith's breath hitched, her heart pounding as her worldview fractured. Her eyes darted back and forth between the two, confusion and fear settling deep within her.

Lilith: Two? But how—what's going on?

Eda, still stunned, looked between the two identical figures.

Eda: Bad stuff... REALLY bad stuff.

Vanitas, wearing his trademark sadistic grin, folded his arms and leaned against the nearest wall.

Vanitas: Since I showed off my face, there's no need to use my helmet. And man, you really are as stupid as I thought, Lilith.

His sharp and condescending voice sent a chill down the room. Sora tensed but kept focused, still processing the bizarre sight of his doppelgänger standing before them. Vanitas continued, clearly relishing the confusion.

Vanitas: No, I'm not Sora. But I guess I can't blame you for being confused. Not every day you see two Keyblade wielders that look this alike.

He flicked his yellow eyes toward Lilith.

Vanitas: We're not the same person, you fool. We're brothers.

Lilith gasped, staggering back, the weight of his words hitting her like a freight train.

Lilith: Brothers!? Twins!

Vanitas let out a mocking laugh. "Twins? No. We're not twins.

Lilith: Wha-but you two—

Vanitas summons a mirror to check his reflection.

Vanitas: That's right. See, I'M the handsome one. Sora's the sappy one.

Hearing that ticked heroes off.

Sora: Shut up!

Luz: You're the ugly one!

Eda: You freak!

Vanitas: Heh. As if a scrawny tomboy and a saggy witch could judge me on looks.

Hearing that really ticked off everyone.

Vanitas: *to Sora* Honestly, brother. I don't know how you can stand being around them.

Sora stepped forward, his expression hardening as he locked glaring eyes with Vanitas.

Sora: *snarling* First of all, don't you EVER insult my friends again!

Vanitas shrugs with a chuckle.

Sora: And second, I told you not to call me that! We're NOT brothers!

His Keyblade shimmering with light as he pointed it at the dark figure. The two mirrored each other, but where Sora stood firm in the light, Vanitas oozed malice and darkness.

Vanitas shrugged, still grinning.

Vanitas: Call it what you want, but the fact remains—we're linked to the same foundation. Remember what I told you?

Sora grits his teeth.

Vanitas: I'm the piece of Ventus that was taken away. And you're the piece Ventus needed to be whole again. That's why we look exactly the same. You define me, Sora, the same way that Ventus does. We are brothers who, together, make a greater whole.

Lilith: Ventus? Who is...

Still trying to understand this revelation, Lilith felt a wave of doubt creep in. All this time, she had been so sure of Sora's deception, convinced that he and Vanitas were one and the same, manipulating her and everyone else. And apparently, to her, a possible third doppelganger could be involved. So, now everything felt like it was spiraling out of control.

Sora, Luz, and Eda gritted their teeth in frustration. The more Vanitas talks, the more Lilith and Steve might discover the truth. Although, in the back of their minds, Lilith and Steve undoubtedly know more than they think.

Steve, who had been watching the exchange with wide eyes, finally spoke up.

Steve: So, if you're brothers—or whatever you call it—why are you trying to mess with all of us? Why help Belos?

Lilith: Why go through all this trouble? What do you gain out of this?

Vanitas sneered, his grin turning dark.

Vanitas: I have my reasons.

Lilith, her voice shaky but gaining strength, took a step forward, turning to Sora.

Lilith: So…all this time, you weren't toying with us. You're actually—

Sora: On Eda's side. Yes.

Luz: Wait a sec! What are you even doing here, Vanitas!?

Vanitas chuckled, low and menacing.

Vanitas: Oh, it's quite simple, really. You see, Belos learned about Lily and Stevie deserting the Emperor's Coven.

His eyes glowed a sinister yellow as his grin widened.

Vanitas: So, he sent me to deal with you. Permanently.

Lilith's breath caught in her throat. She had expected some form of retaliation, but to have Vanitas sent after them? This was worse than she'd feared. Vanitas continued, his voice dripping with malice.

Vanitas: And because Belos is feeling generous, he didn't just send me.

With a snap of his fingers, darkness swirled around him, materializing into three twisted, shadowy figures. Three figures that made Sora, Luz, and Eda's eyes widen in recognition.

Luz: No way...

The three figures emerging from the darkness were three out of the four warped versions of the Deadly 4, bounty hunters they had crossed paths with before. Specifically, Pyron, Phoebe, and Toxina. Their forms were twisted and distorted, shadows of their former selves but unmistakable in their deadly presence.

Luz: Pyron...

Sora: Phoebe...

Eda: Toxina...

Vanitas: Like it?

Steve: Wait a sec...

Lilith: They're from the Reaper's Hand mercenary guild.

Sora: And Vanitas turned them into Heartless.

Lilith/Steve: Heartless!?

Lilith and Steve thought back to the night of their defeat when Vanitas offered Belos the power of using the Heartless at his command. Seeing Vanitas doing this now made it clearer than ever that Belos is certainly not to be trusted or followed.

Vanitas: That's right. The same guild that went after Sora and his pals for a big payday.

Luz: How did you know—

Vanitas: Call me a spectator. Anyways, after you trashed them, you could say I figured they could use a little boost for a rematch. Oh. And that's not all.

Vanitas laughed darkly as he summoned a scythe from the shadows, its blade sharp and gleaming.

Vanitas: Recognize this, Sora? Eda? *twirled it casually*

Sora and Eda's eyes widen.

Sora/Eda: That's—

Vanitas: Sephtis's scythe. The signature weapon of the Deadly 4's dead leader. After you killed him, Sora, I decided to reap the rewards left behind.

Lilith and Steve were shocked to hear that. Sora tightened his grip on his Keyblade, feeling his anger starting to rise. His eyes flickered from blue to red to blue, which Vanitas noticed with a grin.

Vanitas: So, here we are. The new Deadly 4 against you fools. Oh, before I forget. Lilith. Steve.

The two stiffened when they saw Vanitas smiling coldly.

Vanitas: Belos sends his regards.

Lilith, panic rising in her chest, glanced at Eda, still pinned to the wall by the metal plates. She knew they were in danger, but there was no time for hesitation. Vanitas was far more dangerous than she had anticipated, and they couldn't afford to let their personal conflicts get in the way.

With a sharp gesture, Lilith released Eda from her binds, the metal plates clattering to the ground.

Lilith: Edalyn...

Her voice was steady but urgent.

Lilith: I know we've got our problems, but we need to work together right now. Vanitas and his Heartless are too strong to face alone.

Eda, rubbing her wrists and glaring at Vanitas, nodded.

Eda: You don't have to tell me twice.

Eda summons her staff as Luz and Sora step forward, all three ready for battle. Sora, his gaze never leaving Vanitas, spoke up.

Sora: He's not just after Lilith and Steve. We're all targets now.

Lilith, her staff gripped tightly in her hands, positioned herself beside Eda. Her voice softened slightly.

Lilith: Edalyn...I—

Eda: Don't.

Eda glanced at her disowned sister, a flicker of emotion passing across her face, but now wasn't the time for a heart-to-heart.

Eda: We'll deal with that later. Right now, we've got bigger fish to fry.

Vanitas's smirk deepened as he watched the united team prepare for battle.

Vanitas: Ha! Later? There IS no "later." because this place shall become your grave!

He pointed the scythe toward them, and the shadowy versions of the Deadly 4 surged forward, their twisted forms crackling with dark energy.

Sora raised his Keyblade high, its light shining brightly against the encroaching darkness.

Sora: Stay sharp, everyone!

Both sides entered their stances, staring each other down. Neither one dared to make the first move, leaving one solid conclusion to all...The battle was about to begin.
