It was the biggest mistake of his life, the accident.

Everything and everyone ever close to him died slowly and so very painfully, he watched helplessly as they each died in front of him, his wife and unborn child, his brothers, everyone close to him died and now he was alone in this facility being tortured in many different ways.

And his anger grew with every passing day along with a bloodthirsty vengeance and when the time was right he would let loose the monster they had created.

"Security breach secto 1" a voice cracked over a speaker throughout the entire compound. "Emergency protocols are being activated, do not allow test subject to escape"

In a specific room a burgion tank was just broken and a pale gray hedgehog floated up off the ground his eyes shifting to green with red where white once was and only small slits for pupils, his fur and quills bristled as his form changed to one of nightmare his color shifted to a grayish purple and the stripes along the top bunches of quills turned light purple and his limbs changed to crystal his claws long and sharper than the sharpest knife.

"Revenge will be mine." He hissed darkly, a mist flowing around his threatening form as he slowly flew to the door. "Nothing will survive my wrath."

With a savage snarl he tore the door off its hinges and threw it aside as if it were a crumpled piece of paper, ears pinned flat against his head he landed on the floor and completely enraged he marched down the hall killing anything and everyone without moving his gaze from the end of the hall his eyes flaring in rage.

He went through the building killing as many as he wanted and taking pleasure in each of their screams as they slowly died by his hand, he continued all the way down to the lowest level where he found a bunch of weaponry and other things, chuckling evilly he set everything explosive to blow up in exactly fifteen minutes he then left and found where most of the scientists were hiding.

Seeing them ducking in the far end of the room made him chuckle in amusement for he enjoyed their fear and their pain was like candy to a child, to ensure no one left the room he closed the door behind him and eyes blazing in fury he unleashed his rage on the group tearing them to shreds with his claws and ripping out their guts making a big mess.

Blood, guts and dead bodies everywhere, a truly pleasing sight to the vengeful hedgehog who stood choking one to death, suddenly the human's neck snapped in half causing a bunch of blood to squirt out and stain the hedgehog's hand.

"Never mess with a dark." He hissed, dropping the body and licking the blood from his claws. "Tastes like revenge, sweet revenge."

Suddenly a small beeping noise sounded not far away causing his ears to flick back and slowly he turned to see a burgion tank filled with hard to see through water, curiosity getting the better of him he floated over the bodies that littered the floor and landed right in front of the tank.

Slowly he reached out a hand and touched the glass wiping away the blood that stained it but he paused catching a glimpse of something, unsure what he saw he looked closer and there floating under the water and curled up slightly was a young hoglet wires attached to its small form and no mask covering its face so it could breath.

"They killed a hoglet." He growled his anger growing as memories flashed through his mind causing him to hit the glass in frustration.

Taking a breath he looked back up at the hoglet but noticed something, it was very faint and barely even noticeable but the hoglet's ears twitched a little and its feet kicked at the water in the very slightest.

Pinning his ears he clenched his hands into fists and with a snarl he hit the glass with such force it caused it to shatter immediately which resulted in all the water in the tank to flow out but he didn't move a single centimeter he just stood there as all the water pushed right by him and flowed onto the floor mixing with the blood.

When the water was gone he stared at the hoglet who was now laying on its stomach on the bottom of the tank, slowly he reached in and tore the wires off the hoglet and detangled it before grabbing it around the chest with his claws and lifting it into the air.

"Well you're the smallest creature I've ever seen." He scoffed, putting the tip of a claw under the hoglet's chin and lifting it a bit to see its face. "You are barely the size of a tennis ball."

In response the hoglet squirmed a bit and put a very tiny paw on his claw making him pause and just stare at the tiny thing in a slight daze but his attention was drawn away by a loud explosion, remembering the bombs he had set he looked back at the hoglet.

Not wanting to get blown to bits he quickly flew down the halls till he made it to the exit where he burst out and flew high into the air where he was a safe distance away from the explosion to come.

He watched in sheer enjoyment as the building fell apart in a fiery explosion leaving nothing but ruins so no one knew he was the cause and he observed the streets making sure there were no survivors. Pleased with his revenge he turned away from the violence and looked down at the very small hoglet that was now clinging to his chest fur.

"Looks like you're mine now, tiny." He mused, putting a claw to the hoglet's head and gently stroking its tender blue quills.

Suddenly he heard sirens and he looked to see fire trucks rushing to the scene on the city streets below, irritated he let out a low growl and keeping hold of the hoglet he flew away to a deep dark alley where he landed and leaned against the wall.

But he then noticed the hoglet was shivering from the sudden cold due to it still being wet, knowing hoglets as young as this didn't have much strength to fight or toughen it out he held the tiny thing close to his fluffy chest fur and gently rubbed it giving the hoglet a bit more warmth so it wouldn't freeze but it wasn't enough so he pushed away from the wall and walked out into the streets keeping a low profile in the crowds as to not rouse any suspicion.

And walking past some rather wealthy people he pick-pocketed some money that he used to get a hotel room. Once in the room he set the hoglet in the sink of the bathroom so he wouldn't go anywhere not like it would due to its eyes not opening yet and too weak to really move.

He then got in the tub and took a quick shower so he wasn't so dirty from all the killings, once done he took a towel and dried himself off before going back to the hoglet and washing it as well, wrapping it in a towel he went back to the bedroom and sat down on the bed where he proceeded to dry the hoglet who squirmed a bit and squeaked very quietly.

When he finished he set the towel aside and observed the hoglet who lay curled up on his hand, ears flicking back a bit he brought the tiny thing closer so he could get a better look at it.

"In most ways I'd say you're too cute for me but I guess I will make an exception since you are like me imprisoned in that place for their twisted experiments." He told the hoglet that was starting to suck on his finger. "Sorry tiny but I do not have any food for you." He said, picking the hoglet up by its scruff and setting it on the bed.

The hoglet seemed quite distressed there on the blankets, it sniffed about trying to find its way back but it was lost there only a foot away from him.

"You look so pitiful there." He mused, watching the hoglet.

The hoglet's ears pricked forward a bit at that and it followed the sound of his voice till it soon curled up against his leg making him stare in slight shock.

"Hmm, persistent little thing aren't you?" He then picked the hoglet up and got under the covers before setting the tiny thing on his chest.

The hoglet squeaked a little and slowly calmed down as it curled up and snuggled up in the soft white chest fur.

"You're lucky I'm used to seeing this much cuteness." He muttered, putting a hand over its body for extra warmth. "Though it still is a bit revolting."

In response the hoglet pressed against his hand as it buried its face into his chest fur.

Keeping himself from gagging he gently stroked the small form making it shift a bit and relax but he paused feeling something off, carefully he put a finger on the back of the hoglets neck then traced it down the tiny things spine but he stopped feeling a bit of a bump, ears flattening he rubbed that spot and found it was a scar one that started from its back all the way down to its leg where it stopped near the knee.

"What did they do to you?" He wondered, feeling around for anymore scars but he only grew angrier for there was more.

The tiny hoglet had scars running from its shoulders all the way down to the backs of its hands, and another right down its belly.

The thought of those people doing this to someone as small and young as this made his anger rise to the brim and then some, he then wanted to kill all those people all over again a million times for doing such a horrid thing to a baby.

"Well in seeing you were locked up in that tank you most likely have no parents, so I guess I am your guardian now." He decided, going back to just stroking the hoglet. "And if anyone dares harm you again I will tear them to shreds."

-later-

Several hours later he awoke from a whining sound, not used to that sound he looked around only to find the hoglet near the edge of the bed almost about to fall, quickly he put a hand around the tiny thing and pulled it back towards him.

"Nice to know you're adventurous." He said, holding the hoglet up by the scruff as it squirmed and whined. "Hmm, you are as skinny as a needle." He mused, putting a claw to the tiny things stomach. "Should probably feed you, unfortunately I have no food for you."

The hoglet squeaked and put its paws on his claw, he noticed the hoglet was having difficulty breathing, ears twitching back he set the tiny hoglet on its back on his hand where he pulled it closer and carefully he put a finger to its chest and pushed down slightly causing the hoglet to squirm and open its mouth where water flowed out a bit.

"You sure got a mouth full don't you." He mumbled, rolling the hoglet over and rubbing its back causing it to cough up more water. "Those idiotic mortals nearly killed you, stuffing you in a tank full of water without any way to breathe." He snarled, making the hoglet spit up more till its lungs were completely empty from the water allowing it to breathe properly. "There, that should do it."

He then rolled the hoglet back over and gently wiped the water from the things face, the hoglet squirmed a bit but took a deep breath as it slowly relaxed in his hand, easily falling asleep.

"I guess I better get you something to eat, who knows when you were last fed." He thought aloud, holding the hoglet close to his chest and getting up.

He then turned and made a tall nest with the blanket and gently set the hoglet down inside so it couldn't escape and hurt itself, after covering it with some of the blanket he backed away.

When he was sure the hoglet was okay by itself he sank to the floor and turned to a shadow, he then left the hotel and went down the city block as that shadow till he made it to the store in no time at all.

Once there he re-emerged as a pale gray hedgehog with light green eyes and off green stripes running along the top of his quills and two other stripes on his arms and legs.

Taking a quick glance around he went inside and got what he needed before heading back to the hotel where he went back to his room but paused hearing a familiar sound, crying.

Ears twitching a bit he set the stuff down and went back to the hoglet that was kicking and squirming in a bit of a fit which was quite normal especially for an infant that was most likely starving.

"Oh stop your fussing, I was barely gone for a few minutes." He grumbled, picking the hoglet up and walking over to the small stand next to the wall where he set the crying hoglet down and searched the grocery bag to find what he needed. "I'm getting to it, just be quiet."

The hoglet whimpered and curled up and seeming to understand what he had said the tiny thing fell silent sniffling here and there but silent other than that.

"At least you're smart." He muttered under his breath, getting some milk ready for the tiny hoglet that was now just taking to exploring the flat surface that it couldn't even see. "Alright tiny time for something to eat." He said, picking the hoglet back up before going back and sitting down on the bed.

With the hoglet secure in his arms he took the bottle and brought it to the infants mouth, the hoglet's ears went forward a bit at smelling food but it wasn't interested in the bottle in fact it refused.

"First you're whining because you're starving and now you don't want to eat, what is wrong with you?" He growled slightly, setting the bottle aside and putting a claw to its chin.

The hoglet perked up a bit at this and put its paws on his claw before moving its head to where it's mouth was now sucking on his claw.

"Seriously? You prefer sucking on my claw then a bottle that will actually give you food?" He asked, his ears flicking back. "Well I guess the bottle is a bit big right now."

Getting an idea he pulled his hand away and laid the hoglet down on his lap, he then opened the bottle and dipped his finger in the milk before bringing it back to the hoglet where he nudged it slightly causing the infant to squirm a little and take hold of his claw and start sucking on it.

"You are very weird." He chuckled slightly, getting more milk and allowing the hoglet to suck on his claw. "Though I think I better call you something else besides tiny, maybe Maurice?"

The hoglet nearly choked on that, making him chuckle in amusement.

"Yes, I agree it is a horrible name." He nodded slightly, giving the hoglet more milk. "Well because you learned how to understand me so fast I will call you Sonic."

The infant seemed to like that for it relaxed and sucked a bit more its ears inching forward.

"Alright then, you are now going to be called Sonic." He smiled slightly, gently stroking the hoglet's blue quills as it got the nutrients it needed from the milk. "And I am Mephiles the dark but you need not worry about that till you're older."

The infant continued to eat the milk and after a while it finally drifted off to sleep.

Mephiles stared at the hoglet for a minute carefully feeling it's belly to find it was a bit fuller than what it used to be, knowing what he had to do now he got up and set the hoglet down on the mattress before getting up and getting a diaper that he put on the hoglet so it wouldn't make a mess.

He then picked it back up and using one hand he rearranged the blankets before getting in, he carefully laid the hoglet on its stomach where it clung to his chest fur, he smiled very slightly and putting a hand on the tiny hoglet he took the remote on the nightstand and turned on the tv so he had something to do while the infant slept.
