A portal of light beams onto the quiet plains of the earth nation before dimming into nothingness. Jessica and Toby appear from the portal in a dropped stance. Jessica dusts the dirt from her limbs. She notices Toby's gaze lingering on her, a little too long for her liking.
"Is there something on my face or -"
"No, just making sure you're okay."
Jessica sighs. "Toby, you've been raving on trying to get me back to Gorm. I'm not sitting this one out."
"And I'm glad you're here but back in the cabinet -"
"I'm fine. Really! Look -" Jessica reassures. She pulls her jacket sleeves up then exposes her arms to Toby. "No crystals, No scars."
Toby grabs both of Jessica's wrists and pulls her closer. His fingers hover through her arms, inspecting for any leftover crystals.
Jessica twitches at his touch. Her cheeks spot red. Toby's fingers are cold but there was something...warm about his touch. Comforting even. He's careful not to squeeze too hard, as if she were to break. Usually Jessica would be up in arms to be treated so cautiously, she could handle herself after all. But this moment was different.
"Okay," Toby confirms to himself, letting go of Jessica.
A loud high-pitched scream wails from the distance. Jessica and Toby's gazes meet. No doubt that's the beast that escaped.
"You good to transform?" Toby asks.
Jessica smirks. "I'm as good as I'll ever be."
Both pump their fists to the air. "For the power of white light!"
A beam of light descends from the sky, morphing into a bright dome.
"Elemental energies of the sea! / Elemental energies of the air!"
The dome disperses into a flurry of small balls of light, like snowflakes floating in the air to nothingness.
Toby and Jessica gawk at their new forms, Jessica particularly surprised at her new wings and now short bob cut.
Toby's eyes wander to Jessica. He whistles. "Wow, Jess you look -"
Jessica crosses her arms and stares him down with a raised eyebrow, daring him to finish his sentence.
"- good." Toby finishes. He's learnt his mistake from Kagami, that's for sure.
Jessica switches the subject. "Let's find where that monster is. He can't be that far."
"Yeah. Lucas and Nick are probably dealing with it. They'll need our help."
"Right." Jessica nods her head in agreement.
The beast breaks free from its chains. It smashes onto the rock canvas and runs past Lucas and Nick.
"Don't let it escape!" Nick roars. Lucas summons his creepers, but Anchor's frames block Lucas' attack, acting as a barrier between them and the monster.
"Any suggestions?" Lucas poses.
Razzle jumps off Nick's shoulder, hiding behind a small stone rock. "It's all on you, kids."
Nick shrugs his shoulders and gets into a battle position. "That means we'll have to fight these guys first."
Nick and Anchor go toe to toe, dishing out projectiles at each other. Soon after, it became a battle of fists, both dodging and throwing blows with crazy precision. It was a matter of who would flub first.
Lucas engages Obscurio, starting off with a barrage of bark fists hurled at Obscurio's way. The dark lord successfully avoids them all. Growing bored of their game, Obscurio blasts a wave of dark energy at the Lords, almost taking out Anchor in the mix if he didn't roll away in time.
"Hey! You could've hit me too!" Anchor complained, now by Obscurio's side.
"You dodged out of the way, did you not? Stop complaining and do your job."
Anchor grunts and redirects his line of fire to close in on the fallen lords.
Thunder booms in the distance, the lords not sure what to do next.
In a flash, a piercing zigzag of energy strikes Obscurio. He's stunned by electricity. Paralysed he crashes to the floor.
"What?" Anchor gasps. A splash of water knocks him back to Obscurio. Anchor incapacitated, the flames surrounding Nick and Lucas die down.
Lucas lets out a laugh. "Jess, Toby!"
Jessica descends from the sky. The markings from her armour glow bright blue.
Toby follows suit on the ground below, running towards his friends. He high-fives his brother. "Thought you'd need our help."
Nick chuckles. "This is one of the few times I'm actually glad to have you around."
Razzle makes himself known. "Not to break the homely reunion but the lava goons are getting up and the monster is still on the loose!"
"Razzle's right." Jessica comments. They had a job to do, after all.
"Okay, Toby and I will go after the monster." Nick points to him and Toby. "Jessica and Lucas can deal with Obscurio and that lava gormiti."
"On it." they both say.
The group split again. Anchor and Obscurio recover from the respective attacks.
Jessica flies to the air, creating a strong gust of winds.
The dust from the ground mixes with the winds, catching into Obscurio's eyes. "Do something, you buffoon!" Obscurio rages.
Anchor also struggles to keep his eyes open wide. The dust from the wind water and aggregate his vision. Despite the disadvantage, Anchor could make out the glow of Jessica's armour. He aims a hand at the glow and fires!
She's hit!
The winds mellow out. Jessica stumbles to Lucas' side.
The forest lord is at a loss at what to do until his eyes brighten in a green hue. He couldn't really understand it but he could feel it, a hidden power. "Jess, can you create a dome around us again, like you did back in that old bookstore?"
Jessica grunts, getting back up onto her feet. She gives a weary smirk. "Who do you take me for?"
"Good, 'cause I think I have a plan."
The ground shakes violently in tremors. Cracks of lava appear, jumping in crazed intervals, reaching higher and higher. Jessica takes a step back, a small drop almost landing on her feet. She turns to Lucas, unsure of his supposed 'plan'.
"Wait for my signal." Lucas asks. Jessica gives a weary nod.
Obscurio growls and in turn, the lava grows, boiling hotter than the Sahara desert. "Enough of these games."
"Obscurio -"
"Quiet Anchor! I won't let these puny lords of nature get the best of me!" Obscurio rages. Anchor reluctantly stands down, allowing Obscurio to take the stage.
"I will end this once and for all!" The ground shakes again with more violent tremors. The lava bubbles and spikes, matching Obscruio's unbridled animosity . His dark aura consuming him whole.
"Lucas? Whatever your plan is, it's as a good time as ever to start." Jessica voice quivers, unsure but still waiting for Lucas' lead.
The glow from Lucas' orb glistens intensely. His arm following in the same glow, morphing into a grenade launcher.
Jessica stares in shock, mouth gaping wide then frowning. "Okay, that's totally unfair."
"Get ready." Lucas aims at the sky, "Sleep spore!" He fires a grenade to the sky. It bursts in a large green smoke, clouding the sky and seeping to the ground level. "Jessica, now!"
"Okay!" Jessica pushes her hands outwards, closing her eyes in concentration. "Energy barrier!" She calls out and from her hands light transparent blue streams of ribbon wrap around the lords, forming into a dome-like barrier.
"Hold your breath!" Anchor warns Obscurio. But he was already caught. Anchor's brought to his knees, coughing and hacking at the burning behind his throat, collapsing into a deep slumber.
Obscurio limps to the lords, struggling to keep his eyes open. "Darn you…hck…Lords of…nature…" Obscurio, too collapses and succumbs to sleep.
The green smog disperses, and Jessica releases her barrier.
"How did you know you can do that?" she asks.
Lucas shrugs his shoulders. "I don't know. It just came to me and voila." He shows off his new weapon to Jessica. "Anyways, let's see how Toby and Nick are doing." He says, a faint glow and his arm returns to normal.
"Rodger."
Leaving Obscurio and Anchor behind, Jessica and Lucas depart for their friends.
Toby and Nick chase after the beast. At first glance, it'd look to be slow and easy to catch up to but the beast is giving Nick and Toby a run for their money.
"We gotta slow it down somehow!" Nick says between huffs.
"On it." Toby nods and his hand transforms into a canon. "Super deep freeze!" he calls and shoots at the monster's legs. It's stuck in place.
Toby pumps his fists to the air. "Aha! Another win for the Tobmester!"
"Not for long."
The monster shrieks and the ice shatters from its feet. Then, it opens its mouth and shoots a beam straight at the lords. They get out of the way just in time, not without leaving a nasty black dent at its wake.
Soon Jessica and Lucas fly to the scene, Lucas grabbing onto her ankle. He drops down to join Nick and Toby.
"You guys already dealt with Obscurio?" Nick says, surprised at how fast Jessica and Lucas beat Obscurio.
"Let's just say he's taking a long nap." Lucas answers.
Jessica launches her wind attack, but the creature doesn't budge.
"I've got this." Lucas summons his creepers to restrain the monster. Though things wouldn't go smoothly this time around. The monster breaks free from Lucas' constraints.
"W-what?!/Huh?!" The lords gasp in various levels of shock.
"It worked fine last time before Obscurio showed up," Lucas whines.
The monster begins to emit a dark smog slowly enveloping itself in darkness. Amidst the darkness, the flabby mass pulls and contorts in awkward angles, sure to break a couple of bones if it had any. And amidst the fog, its body contorts to weird angles. Its newfound strength is heard in the earthy ground, arms and feet pound down with a new ferocity. Its head is slick and define, almost that of a wolf. Incomprehensible text swirl around its limbs. An eye pokes out from its head, staring sharp at the lords.
It roars, no longer high pitched but an intense deep soul crushing growl hard enough to send the "invincible" lords crashing to their bums.
"It...evolved." Nick gasps, actually feeling scared.
Razzle covers his eyes, crouching behind the lords. "We're doomed, I tell you. Doomed!"
The lords turn to the resident know-it-all, Nick. If someone is to come up with a way to defeat the creature, it's him. But Nick could only shrug his shoulders, he too is at a loss at what to do.
'Now would be a good time to decide what goes down in our wills' - is what Toby would say if his orb didn't pulsate a weird energy.
Toby's orb glows a bit brighter and he hears a faint voice in his head, calling out to him. It gradually became louder and familiar. It gave off a warm feeling, like a brilliant warm light is shining down on him.
Toby closes his eyes, focusing on that voice, materializing it into a person, a gormiti. It's –
"Supreme Luminous." Toby says out loud.
He grabs everyone's attention. Though Toby doesn't pay them any mind, still focused on the image of Supreme Luminous. He wasn't quite there though, blurry and unfocused.
"Lord of the sea!" Supreme Luminous announces in Toby's head, holding what appears to be a trident. "Use your SOL."
"My soul?"
"SOL. One of the supreme sacred weapons of light. Use it to free the beast from the clutches of darkness."
"How? You're just in my head."
"Your orb will show you the way." Supreme Luminous' final words as he vanishes from Toby's mind.
"Toby?" Jessica shakes his shoulder a little.
"Supreme Luminous, I saw him in my mind. He told me to summon this...weapon. 'Free the beast from the clutches of darkness' – he said."
Lucas smiles. "Even if he's not with us, he still finds a way to guide us."
Toby speaks up. "I think I have a plan. It might not work but it's worth a try."
"Like we have any options," Jessica says. Toby believed in her when she was still unconscious, floating in that bathtub. It's her turn to believe in him.
"I say we go for it, bro." Nick says.
"Okay." They all get up onto their feet. "You guys go and distract it. I'll try and focus all my power into summoning Supreme Luminous' weapon."
Jessica takes to the skies and launches a round of feathers at the beast. It roars at her and jumps, baring its rows of sharp teeth at her.
"Bark blasters/ Rock storm." Nick and Lucas shoot their attacks at the beast, diverting it's attention to them. It leaps at them before bellowing another beam attack.
Toby calms his breathing and relaxes his muscles. The only clue Supreme Luminous left was the orb. So Toby focuses on it. He feels it, the energy from the orb, swelling inside him. Illuminating.
Jessica, Lucas and Nick continue to engage with the monster, taking turns attacking, confusing the beast. It didn't know who to focus on, mindlessly shooting beams at whoever provoked it.
"It seems like we're getting somewhere!" Nick shouts to the others. They've split up from each other, the beast's attention now on Lucas.
"Fighting feathers launch! Here, catch me if you can!" Jessica mocks. She zooms past it, expecting it to tail her. Except it doesn't.
Nick rains a few rock flints at it but the monster doesn't budge from its' spot. The lords pause, waiting for the creature's next step.
The scrolling text from the beast's limbs fling out in a flash. Its target were the lords and easily restrains their arms and legs.
"Urk!" Jessica plummets from the air in a loud thud, breaking Toby from his concentration.
Nick tries to wriggle his way out but his attempts are futile. "Shit! I can't break free."
"Urk! Lightning bolts!" Jessica attempts to shock her way out but all she got is a few small sparks of electricity. "I can't use my powers!"
"Sleep Grenade! Huh? Jungle Attack!?" Lucas continues to call out all his attacks. Nothing.
It's all up to Toby now. The pressure is on him. But he takes another deep, breath and shuts his eyes again. The swell of energy hasn't left, still within him.
"Here it goes!" His glowing armour shines like spotlights. Water droplets metamorphize and swirl around Toby. He places a hand to his chest, right where the orb lies. The orb's glow matches that of the intensity of the sun, blue shifting to white.
The beast is mesmerized by the sight, stunned like a deer caught in headlights.
"Come forth, Trident of the Surging Seas!" In a swooping motion, Toby gracefully pulls out a shining Trident from the orb.
Liquid still swirling around him, Toby aims his trident at the beast's head.
"Take this!" Toby throws the trident with all his might, striking the beast's eyes.
The beast wails a gruesome, gut-wrenching howl. A splash of light liquid, splurging out from the trident. The beast's body is encompassed in light and it shrinks to that of a form similar to a gormiti. The trident falls to the ground. Laying beside the weapon, a lava soldier.
Jessica, Lucas and Nick's confines break into small balls of light dispatching into the air.
"That monster...it was a lava gormiti." Nick had to legitimize the obvious. "So that's what they've been up to in Volcano Mountain."
Jessica walks up to the unconscious lava gormiti. She bends down to shake him awake. He gradually opens his eyes, groaning in exhaustion.
"Are you okay?" Jessica asks.
When the lava gormiti opens his eyes, he shrieks and scoots away from the air lord. He huddles himself into a ball. "T-T-The beast…"
"It's alright now. You're not a beast anymore." Jessica tries to console him. The lava gormiti may be their enemy, but this guy is clearly shaken by his transformation. Plus, they might be able to syphon some info out of him about what Magor is planning.
"T-the beast! H-his heart! D-d-don't give him the heart! His revival is imminent!" The lava gormiti wails, shaking.
The guys join Jessica, listening in on the conversation.
"What beast?!" Toby demands. He strides up to the lava gormiti, his lobster claw out and points it to the shaking soldier. "What do you mean by his revival is imminent? What are you lava freaks up to?"
The lava gormiti whimpers and babbles, unable to answer Toby. "B-B-B-beast, i—it's coming!"
Jessica pushes Toby away. "He's delirious Toby. Cut it out."
"Still we should bring him back to the earth capital. Give him time to calm down before asking questions." Nick suggests.
"It's if he'll calm down, not when." Razzle says, now probed onto Nick's shoulder since the battle's over.
A large shadow looms over the lords brought by a huge gust of wind. Above them, the ancient guardian of fire, Drakkon, flaps his wings with Magmion on his back. Too late to react, Magmion throws a smoke grenade and the whole area covers in smoke.
Jessica summons a tornado of wind to clear the view. "Is everyone okay?" she asks.
"Where's Magmion and Drakkon?" Toby cuts to the chase, Magmion having mysteriously disappeared after his smoke trick.
"Where's the lava gormiti!?" Nick points out. The former beast has also gone with Magmion.
Lucas points to the sky. "There!"
However small, Drakkon can be seen in the distance with Magmion and the lava gormiti.
Toby kicks a nearby rock. "Just our luck."
"Don't count your chickens just yet. " Jessica hovers in the air. "I'm sure I'm fast enough to catch up to them."
"No." Nick stops her. "We stopped the beast from running rampant on the earth nation. And besides, we already have someone to question."
Toby and Jessica looked particularly confused, but Nick cuts the subject before they could get him to further explain.
"We should get back to the earth gormiti. They're probably still fighting those lava goons."
The group head on back to the earth capital to join the battle there. Only to their surprise, the battle has already ended. Bullrock informed them that Magmion had recalled his troops out of the blue. They too let him know what happened to the beast. Bullrock's grimace was noticeable but he didn't seem too fazed by what they told him. With a day work dusted and completed, all that's left is for the lords to gate back to earth and straight home for the night.
