Know Thy Enemy

Isobel is at the front door of the Gilbert House; she looks at Elena while Jenna looks between them, stunned. "Hello, Elena. It's nice to see you again," Isobel spills the secret as Jenna looks at Elena in shock.

"Again?" Jenna asks her niece, but she doesn't know what to say.

"So, you're the woman who's dating my husband. I need to speak to Elena. May I come in?" Isobel asks.

"N-N-No. Don't… Don't invite her in," Elena orders, stepping closer.

"I need to talk to you, Elena," She urges her daughter.

"No!" The human doppelganger snaps, slamming the door in her birth mother's face and looks at her aunt, who's silently crying, heartbroken at all the lies.

"You knew she was still alive? Ric? John? Did they know?" Jenna asks her.

"I can explain everything, Jenna," Elena tries to tell her.

"No," She snaps.

"No. Jenna, please," Her niece pleads with her as Jenna runs upstairs to her room, with Elena racing after her. "Jenna, please. No, wait. Jenna, please wait." She enters her room, slamming the door behind her as Elena tries to get inside to talk. "Jenna, you have to talk to me. I… I need to explain what's going on. Jenna, please." Jenna slides down to the floor, crying as she listens to her niece.

Stefan and Damon rush downstairs, needing to head out to get information on Isobel's sudden appearance and to help Bonnie. "Isobel just showed up at their front doorstep," Stefan explains.

"What's she doing here?" Damon questions.

"I don't know. That's what I'm gonna go find out," The younger Salvatore replies, heading downstairs, and Katherine walks into the hallway, joining them.

"I don't think that you should tell her that I'm here," Katherine informs the brothers.

"What? Why?" Stefan asks her.

"It's better if she and John not know that I stayed in town after I got out of the tomb," She explains.

"You're the one in cahoots with them. You made a deal with John that almost got me killed," Damon replies, looking at her.

"I did what I had to to get out of the tomb. Now I'm reconsidering my alliance," Katherine tells them and turns around to walk away, but Stefan stops her.

"What do you know?" Stefan asks her.

"I know that I want Klaus dead, which puts me squarely on team you. Besides, if you two ever need me to swap places with Elena again, the less people know that I'm here, the better. Think about it, Stefan. Come on. Be smart," She explains, having a secret agenda.

"Tell you what. You two, uh… Call Alaric let him know that his wife's just showed up on his girlfriend's doorstep," He tells his brother and looks at them before leaving as Katherine and Damon look at each other before Damon heads out to meet up with Jeremy and Bonnie to look for the Witch massacre site.

Lorilei walks out of her bedroom, fixing her hair as she sees Luka sitting on her couch, staring at nothing. "What's wrong, kid?" She asks her, sitting down next to him.

"I only have my sister and she's lost to Klaus," Luka answers, and she looks at him, knowing in some way how he's feeling; she goes to talk when her phone rings; she gets it out of her pocket, but sees it's not her primary phone.

"Interesting," Lorilei mutters, and Luka perks up as she walks into her Witch room grabs the phone and sees an unknown number. "Hello, McKnight speaking, what can I do for you?"

"Hello, Lollipop," She hears a familiar voice on the other end.

"What the hell are you ringing me for? Maddox?" The McKnight Witch snaps; Luka looks at her confused as she walks out of the room.

"I need a spell," He answers.

"What kind of spell?" She asks him.

"A body possession spell. A powerful one," Maddox tells her, and she smiles.

"Why?" Lorilei asks him.

"I need it for a friend," He answers.

"Okay. I'll give it to you, if you tell me something," McKnight replies and smiles when she hears him sigh. "Good. Tell me when you're in town."

"That's it? How do you know I'll even come to New York?" Maddox questions.

"I'm in Mystic Falls with the doppelganger. A human one. And Katherine Pierce," The McKnight Witch reveals, hearing the silence.

"Fine. The spell?" He asks her, and she smirks as she grabs one of her spellbooks.

"Of course," She sits down, flicking through the pages.

Elena opens the door when Alaric arrives at her house. "Hey. Is she up yet?" Alaric asks her as he closes the door behind him.

"She won't come out of her room," Elena tells him.

"What'd you tell her?" He asks her again.

"Nothing. She won't talk to me," The doppelganger informs the history teacher.

"We're gonna have to fix this, Elena," The history teacher tells her as Jenna comes down the stairs with an overnight bag and her coat.

"Hey," Elena greets her aunt.

"Jenna," Alaric tries to talk to her.

"I don't want you here, Ric. You need to go," Jenna tells him, not looking at him.

"Okay, listen. I can't begin to imagine what you must be feeling right now," The history teacher says, looking at her.

"Rage and betrayal would pretty much cover it," She replies, putting on her jacket and taking her overnight bag.

"Where are you going?" Elena asks her aunt.

"I'm going to stay on campus. I have a thesis to write, and I don't want to be in this house," Jenna answers.

"Jenna, please just stop. Let us explain to you exactly what is going on," Alaric tries to tell her.

"Elena, I need you to go to the Lockwood's today and accept the historical society's check for your mom's foundation," Jenna tells her, ignoring her boyfriend.

"Okay, but, Jenna, please just…." Elena replies, but her aunt cuts her off.

"I don't have it in me to hear any more lies from you," She says and walks out the door, closing it behind her.

"Jenna, just…" The human doppelganger tries to stop her but looks at the closed door when John comes out from the kitchen, having heard everything.

"Let her go. It's better that she's not here, what with everything that's going on but maybe had you been a little more honest with her from the beginning, this…." John comments, and overcome with rage, Alaric swings at his face, knocking him back and even getting a little nosebleed.

"Sorry, Elena," Alaric apologises and walks out of the house, leaving Elena with John, who is smiling a little.

"You know this is your fault, right?" Elena snaps at him.

"Right," John replies, watching her walk upstairs.

Caroline walks out her front door and locks it behind her, walking over to her car as she's on the phone with Stefan. "I can't find him anywhere. He's not at home. He's not answering his phone," Caroline relays as she walks to her car.

"How could you let him go?" Stefan asks her.

"My mom walked in. He took off. I didn't know what to do," She tells him.

"Did your mom hear anything?" He asks her.

"No. She just thinks we're fighting but he knows about me, and he's freaking out about Vicki," The blond Vampire replies, getting into her car.

"All right. Listen. You have to find him. You have to calm him down. Compel him if you have to. Is he still on the vervain?" Stefan asks him, walking upstairs to Elena's bedroom.

"I slip it into his soda when he's at work, but I didn't get to last night, so it's out of his system. He has a catering shift at the Lockwoods' today. I'm gonna try there," Caroline informs him and hangs up, connecting her phone to the car. "Call Matt," She tries again, but it goes straight to voicemail.

"Ah, this is bad," Elena sighs as Stefan sits next to her on the window seat in her bedroom. "Between Isobel and Jenna and now Matt, this is disaster bad."

"Yeah," Stefan agrees, hating seeing his girlfriend so upset. John walks upstairs and pokes his head in, seeing the couple.

"Elena, can you come downstairs, please? I need to talk to you," John tells them.

"Heh. I have nothing to say to you," Elena snaps at him.

"Please. It's important. You, too, Stefan," He adds, and they agree, going downstairs to see Isobel in the kitchen.

"I asked John for a do-over," Isobel tells them, and Elena looks at John.

"You invited her in?" Elena asks him.

"She has information about Klaus. Please, just listen to her, okay?" John instructs them, and she looks at Stefan.

"All right. What do you know?" Stefan asks.

"Since I was last here, I've been doing everything possible to find Klaus," Isobel informs them. "We knew our chance was to find him before he could find you."

"Best chance at what?" He asks her.

"Keeping Elena alive," John answers.

"You don't get to talk, okay, not after everything you've done," Elena snaps at her birth father.

"Were you able to find Klaus?" Stefan asks Isobel.

"No. Nobody knows where he is but there are these rumours that are flying around. That a doppelganger exists," Isobel informs them.

"Which means any Vampire that wants to get in favour with Klaus will be lining up to capture you," John warns them, and Stefan looks back at his girlfriend.

"I'm not buying any of this," Elena sneers, looking at her birth parents. "The last time that you were here, you made it clear that you didn't give a damn about me. Now all of a sudden I'm supposed to believe that you want to help?"

"Klaus has been obsessed with finding Katherine for centuries. All it would take was any one of those 1864 tomb Vampires to spread the word around that Katherine was still alive and it would bring him straight here to Mystic Falls, where you were bound to be discovered, so we killed them." John explains his version of events.

"And almost killed Stefan and Damon in the process," She exclaims, pointing toward her boyfriend, and Isobel gets up from her seat, stepping closer to her daughter.

"I have a safe house that I can take you to. The deed is in your name. No Vampires can get in without your permission, not even me. Let me help you," Isobel informs her, trying to curry favour.

"You wanna help? Then get the hell out of my house," Elena snaps, glaring at her birth mother.

Lorilei looks at herself in her mirror, ensuring her makeup is okay before she leaves for the Lockwoods; when the door opens, she sees Bonnie and Jeremy standing there. "What are you doing here?" Bonnie challenges.

"This is my place," Lorilei answers, walking towards them. "How can I help you?"

"We're here for the Martins' grimoire collection," Jeremy tells her.

"What collection? This is my apartment building and bookshop. Those are my grimoires," She reveals, loving the look of horror on their faces. She walks to the secret door, pushing it open to reveal the Witch's room. "Damon, you can come inside now," She calls out, and he rushes up, standing with Bonnie and Jeremy. "Look. You killed Jonas. Good for you and all, but see, I will get Elijah back, I'm in for the long game. So, what spell do you need?"

"Just like that?" Damon questions.

"For a price of course," She replies.

"Of course," He mutters.

"What spell?" McKnight repeats.

"A spell to harness the energy of 100 dead Witches," Bonnie tells her, and she smiles.

"I'll give it to you, if you tell me where Jonas is," Lorilei replies.

"Fine," Damon agrees, and she walks to the grimoire from the night before and rips out a page.

"Here you go," She hands it to the Bennett Witch. "Where's Jonas?"

"Dead," He answers.

"I know that. Where is he buried?" She demands.

"In the forest by the Lockwood's old cellar," The older Salvatore tells her.

"Thanks, I know where that is," Lorilei replies and lets go of the page. "Have fun, Bonnie. See ya around." She leads them out of her apartment. "Oh, Damon, this is the bill for your brother," She hands him a slip of paper. "For the door and pipe." She closes the door with a smile, seeing the shocked look on his face, and Luka comes out of her bedroom.

"Why would you give her the spell?" Luka asks her.

"Because there is a serious catch. A deadly one," Lorilei answers with a sneaky smirk.

"Thank you for finding out where my dad is buried," He replies.

"Of course, family is important," She says, walking to the door. "I've got to go to the Lockwoods. Remember, you're meant to be dead. So stay hidden."

Isobel and her little minion enter the nicest foreclosure in the neighbourhood; she looks around happily as her minion closes the door, and she takes a wine bottle out of the bag. "Merci, Mon Cherie," She says and feels someone is in the house; she rushes over to the unknown person, pushing them against the wall. She sees that it's Katherine, and Katherine overpowers her, making her back and strangling her.

"Nice house," Katherine comments.

"Nicest foreclosure in town," Isobel replies, her ancestor smiles, letting her go, and she joins in, laughing. "Come here," She pulls her into a hug that the Vampire doppelganger gladly accepts. "It's good to see you, Katherine."

"I hear you've been busy," The older Vampire remarks.

"Yes, I have. I've been busy making a deal with Klaus to save your life," Isobel reveals and gives the wine bottle to Katherine. "Here. A vintner I knew in Avignon," She takes it, opening it, taking a taste.

"He's tasty," Katherine compliments as they walk out of the foyer and head into the living room; Katherine pours a glass of blood into two wine glasses. "So what was with the surprise visit to the Gilbert house?"

"John told me Ric was dating auntie vanilla. I got jealous," She lies through her teeth.

"You have obviously got John wrapped around your finger if he invited you in the house," The Vampire doppelganger remarks.

"He thinks I'm helping him protect Elena, so he's been very useful in keeping me informed on everything that's been going on," Isobel informs her.

"So tell me what you know," Katherine asks her.

"You were right. I couldn't get anywhere near Klaus, but I found my way to someone in his trusted circle. One of his Witches," She reveals.

"Klaus and his Witches," The older Vampire mutters, taking a sip of blood.

"He said that Klaus is willing to grant you your freedom if we deliver the Moonstone and the doppelganger," Isobel informs her.

"I can get the Moonstone," Katherine tells her.

"You know Katherine, you'd be betraying your Salvatore boys again," She warns the older Vampire.

"I was more than willing to play it their way if I had to, but they're floundering. Their Witch has lost her powers, and they've used their only weapon to kill Elijah. If I stick with them, I'm dead. You showing up changes everything," The Vampire doppelganger replies, growing frustrated.

The Salvatore brothers sit in the library at their house with Elena, going over the events so far. "Do you really think that Isobel's telling the truth that word's gotten out about the doppelganger?" Elena questions.

"Look, I don't trust a word that she says, but I think we'd be stupid to ignore the warning," Stefan tells her.

"You know, you should just stay here. It's better for us to keep an eye on you," Damon adds.

"What, in the house that any Vampire can enter? No. Her house is safer," He retorts.

"Well, then we'll stay there," The older Salvatore replies.

"So is that the plan? Neither of you will let me out of your sight again?" Elena questions.

"Let me know when you come up with a better one," Damon tells her.

"Fine. The one of you 2 bodyguards is gonna have to come with me to the Lockwood luncheon," She tells them.

"That'd be me," Stefan volunteers.

"Not me. I have Witch stuff to attend to with Bonnie," Damon informs them.

"Does that mean that you're taking her to the…" Elena asks.

"Shh," He stops her from talking more as Katherine walks into the room.

"Don't get quiet on my account. If you have a plan to combat the impending Vampire doom, please do tell," Katherine offers them a chance to talk, but no one answers her; the brothers' exchange looks with each other. "Seriously, what is the plan to get us out of this mess, hmm? I delivered a Moonstone, a Werewolf, and the dagger to lure and kill Klaus, and right now all you have is a Moonstone. Or so you tell me."

"No, we have it. It's in a very safe place," Damon answers her.

"I've been honest with you. Time to return the favour," She tells him.

"Let me be honest with you. Don't mistake the fact that we haven't set you on fire in your sleep for trust," The older Salvatore retorts, and Elena can't help but look at Katherin and smile.

"Fine. Be that way," Katherine sulks and walks out of the room. Damon's phone buzzes, and he looks at it, seeing a text from Bonnie, and he opens it, reading it.

"Crap," Damon curses and shows his brother, who reads it.

"Call her now," Stefan orders him, and Damon gets up and walks off; Elena looks at her boyfriend confused, and he shakes his head, pulling her out of the house to tell her the news.

"How did you get my number?" Lorilei questions as she answers her phone and sits in the bookshop, watching Luka help set up for the opening.

Carol and Liz walk through the house as they walk, the Mayor looking over everything for the upcoming luncheon in a few hours. "The marshal hasn't been able to figure out what caused the fire at the scene, but he did find blood… no body, just blood," Sheriff Forbes informs the Mayor.

"You think vampires were involved?" Carol asks her.

"I'm starting to assume the answer to that is always a yes," Liz replies, and Caroline walks inside, spotting her mom with Carol.

"Mrs. Lockwood, uh, have you seen Matt? I thought he was working a catering shift at today's brunch," Caroline asks the Mayor, seeming flustered.

"No, I haven't, honey. Sorry. But if you see him, could you ask if he's heard from Tyler?" She asks the teen Vampire.

"Yeah, of course. Um, still no word from him?" The blond Vampire asks her, hating to see the look on her face.

"No. The note he left said he needed time to figure some things out, but I wish I knew where he was," Carol replies as guests begin to walk in, and Caroline spots Stefan and Elena.

"Um, excuse me." Caroline excuses herself and walks over to them.

"Hey. Any luck finding Matt?" Stefan asks her.

"None. What if he tells somebody? What if he tells everybody?" She freaks out.

"No, we just gotta find him and make sure that doesn't happen," He tells her and looks at his girlfriend. "Do you have any idea where he would be?"

"I wish I did, but he wasn't really one to run," Elena answers.

"You know, this wasn't how it was supposed to happen. You know, I was supposed to tell him at the right moment in the right way, and he was supposed to be okay with it because he loves me," Caroline begins tearing up a little.

"We'll help you find him. I just have to accept this thing for Jenna," She tells her best friend.

"All right. Well, call me when you're done, and I'll be out looking for him," The blond Vampire tells them and walks out, passing Lorilei.

"Hey there blondie," Lorilei greets her as she walks inside.

"Maybe he'll come around. You did," Stefan assures his girlfriend. "What is she doing here?" He watches as Lorilei walks towards Carol, greeting her with a fake friendly smile.

Damon, Bonnie and Jeremy walk through the woods heading for the abandoned house. "Is this the spot Emily Bennett was killed, too?" Jeremy asks.

"Founders thought it was poetic burning her where the other witches burned," Damon answers.

"How do you know where the witches were burned?" Bonnie asks him when they come across the old white manor.

"'Cause I tried to save her. Emily was just my key to getting Katherine back before I knew what a nasty little bitch Katherine was," He answers again, making Jeremy laugh as they walk toward the mansion.

The group head on inside, exploring the old house, when suddenly, Damon can't seem to be able to move. "Whatever Witchy prank you're playing, don't. It's not funny," Damon warns her.

"I'm not doing anything," Bonnie tells him.

"I can't move," He tells her, and his skin begins to sizzle. "Oh, my ring's not working. Do something." She concentrates, closing her eyes, and he can move again.

"I don't think the witches like you being here," She tells him.

"I guess this is the right place," Jeremy comments.

"I'm gonna go wait outside," Damon announces and leaves.

Katherine begins snooping around the Salvatore house for the Moonstone, looking everywhere for it from top to bottom. She starts looking in the living room but finds nothing, then heads for the library. Again, nothing. She soon finishes looking downstairs and heads upstairs, looking in every room and heads for Damon's room, looking around and even looking in the fireplace, but still doesn't find anything. Finally, she looks at her hands, seeing them covered in ash, walking into Damon's bathroom, washing her hands when an idea occurs, and looking in his large dish of different soaps, finding the Moonstone quickly. Katherine smiles as she holds the Moonstone and rushes out of the house, heading for the Lockwood luncheon to meet up with Isobel.

Alaric walks to his car that's parked outside his apartment building, puts his bag in the back, and closes the door when Isobel comes up to him. "Hi, Ric," Isobel greets him.

"Isobel. What do you want?" Alaric asks her.

"Just cleaning up some loose ends," She answers.

"Yeah, we don't have any loose ends," He tells her.

"You may not. I do. I need to apologise to you," The ex-wife informs him.

"It's a little late for that," Alaric replies.

"No, not for what I've done in the past. We're beyond that. Although I am sorry for outing you to your girlfriend. That was petty of me," Isobel confesses.

"Look, whatever jacked-up vampire amends that you're trying to make with me right now, I'm not interested," He tells her.

"Of course not, because I compelled you to let me go. I realise that I don't wanna do what I have to do without you knowing how much I loved you and I did. I loved you so much," Isobel confesses, looking into his eyes. "He's all yours," She says, and a man walks out behind the car, putting his hands next to the history teacher's head, who falls to the ground, unconscious. Isobel walks away, seeming a little regretful as she leaves her ex-husband behind yet again, and the strange man carries Alaric back inside the apartment building.

Damon stands outside the Witch's house, waiting for Jeremy and Bonnie to get done inside. "Wanna hurry it up in there?" Damon calls inside, and the door closes in his face. "Screw you, too, Emily. You know, you're on your own in there," He walks away from the house, while inside, Bonnie and Jeremy look around the creepy old house.

"Can you hand me the grimoire pages?" Bonnie asks him.

"Look, are you sure about this?" Jeremy asks her, getting the pages out for her.

"Are you worried about me?" She questions.

"Yeah, of course, I am," He tells her, taking the pages from him and kissing him quickly.

"I'm sure," The Bennett Witch assures him and looks at the pages, reading it, when voices begin whispering around them.

"What is that?" Jeremy asks, looking around the room.

"Spirits of the Witches who died here, I can feel them," Bonnie informs him.

"All right. What are they saying?" He asks her, growing worried.

"I can't-can't tell," She answers, going ahead.

"Where are you going?" Jeremy asks, following her as she walks down into the basement, stopping.

"Here. This is it. Help me set the candles," Bonnie tells him as the whispering grows louder.

"What the hell are they saying?" The youngest Gilbert questions as he walks around the room, placing the candles around the room, and she concentrates, closing her eyes, then reopens them. "What is it?"

"Nothing," She answers quickly and lights all the candles. "They're ready."

The guests sit in one of the rooms at the Lockwood mansion, Carol at the front of the room, talking. "And here to accept the donation to the Miranda Sommers Gilbert scholarship fund is Elena Gilbert," Carol announces, gesturing to the back of the room at Elena, who smiles, walking through the row of chairs toward the front. Upstairs, John meets up with Isobel while everyone is distracted downstairs.

"What are you doing here?" John demands, looking at his first love.

"I'm creating a distraction," Isobel answers, her face changing as she rushes over to him, biting his neck. While downstairs, Elena accepts the check from Mayor Lockwood.

"The historical society was my mom's baby. She considered all of you family and would be honoured and touched by this gift," Elena says; everyone claps when they hear something from outside the room, rushing out to see the noise source. They find John dead on the floor at the bottom of the stairs, Elena follows them out, but Katherine intercepts her and puts her hand over her double's mouth.

"Nice dress. Mind if I borrow it?" Katherine jokes as she rushes away to meet Isobel at the back, unaware that Lorilei is watching them. Stefan looks over John's body, seeing the bite mark on his neck. Carol watches him, peering over, trying to get her guests to look away.

"Please, let the Sheriff do her job," Carol tells them as Liz walks over, inspecting the body.

"Uh, he's-he's bleeding. Is he okay?" Stefan questions.

"Yeah, I got it. I got it," Liz assures him and looks at John, turning to the crowd. "You know what? Let's all back off. He just needs some air. Everything's fine." The group begins to be herded away from the scene, and Stefan walks back into the other room to see Katherine posing as Elena again, seemingly on the phone.

"You okay?" He asks her.

"I'm calling Damon," Katherine announces.

"Let's get out of here. Come on," Stefan tells her, and they walk out of the house, heading for Elena's car while Katherine is on the phone.

"It's Isobel, Damon. It's gotta be," She informs him over the phone.

"Tell him he needs to get over here and deal with John's body," He tells his girlfriend.

"You've got some serious explaining to do to the council about John being not so dead," Katherine tells him and hangs up the phone when it finally clicks, and he pushes her against the car's boot.

"Where the hell is she? Huh?" Stefan demands, and she turns around, stabbing him with a syringe full of vervain.

"I'm sorry, Stef, but I can't have you following me," She tells him, tossing him into the shrubbery and getting into Elena's car.

Bonnie still has her eyes closed as she continues with the spell; the voices around them keep getting louder. Finally, she becomes overwhelmed and begins to cry. "Bonnie? You're scaring me," Jeremy calls out to her, and she screams. "Bonnie!" He tries to get to her, but he's thrown against the wall by an invisible force. Bonnie screams louder, and Jeremy tries getting up but can't. Suddenly the voices stop, and he gets to his feet and rushes over to her as she cries. "Bonnie! You okay?"

"I did it," Bonnie announces, and he pulls her into a hug.

"It's okay," He soothes her.

Carol gets everyone to leave, and they walk out, glancing at John's dead body; Lorilei walks out, getting out her phone. "I'm sorry for the scare. It was just a bad fall. Paramedics are on their way," Carol tells them as the last guest leaves; Damon arrives.

"Hey. How is he?" Damon asks.

"He's dead," Sheriff Forbes informs him as he looks at the body, checking his pulse and looks at John's hand, seeing the Gilbert ring.

"He'll be fine in a couple hours," He assures her, dropping his hand with a thud.

"What are you talking about? Damon, he's dead," Carol reminds him.

"Well... Here's the thing. John's ring, it's an old Gilbert family heirloom that protects its owner from death by a supernatural entity," Damon informs her.

"But he's not breathing. He has no pulse," The Mayor argues.

"He will be. Trust me," He tells Carol, picking John off the floor under his arms. "We're gonna need a cover story... epileptic fit, alcohol binge, banana peel, whatever works. But right now I just have to get him out of here," He walks out the back, dragging the body. Liz walks out the front of the Lockwoods, on her phone with one of her deputies.

"Yeah. It's a false alarm at the Lockwoods'. Okay. Good. Thanks," Liz hangs up and sees Matt waiting for her by her police car.

"Sheriff Forbes," Matt says.

"Matt, what's wrong?" She asks him.

"I wanna see Vicki's file," He demands.

"What?" The Sheriff blurts.

"I want to see her file. I want to see how you covered up that she was killed by a vampire," Matt demands again.

"Matt, you need to calm down. You're upset. You don't know…." Liz tells him and tries to leave, but he catches her arm.

"Don't lie to me," He snaps, and she grabs his arm, pushing him onto the hood of her car.

"Matt, you need to calm down now," She warns and lets go of him.

Damon comes home, opens the door and dumps John's now-dead body on the hallway floor. He looks at his hands, sees the blood on them and checks his shirt with a huff. He goes up to his bathroom, washes his hands free of blood and takes off his shirt; when his phone rings, he takes it out of his pants pocket and answers it. "Stefan? How'd I beat you and Elena home? What?" Damon asks, hearing the news and drops his phone, looking in his soap bowl, but the Moonstone isn't there and throws the bowl to the floor, angry at the betrayal but expecting it, nonetheless mad at himself.

Isobel drives her car away from Mystic Falls, with Elena in the backseat lying unconscious, when Isobel's phone rings. "Are we good to go?" Isobel answers the phone with Katherine on the other line.

"I'm at your house, but we have to hurry. Damon knows your lodging tricks. It will take him all of 20 minutes to find out where you're staying," Katherine warns as she enters the house, closing the door behind her.

"We'll be long gone before that," She assures her, having other ideas as she looks back at her daughter.

"Good. How far are you?" The Vampire doppelganger questions as she looks at herself in the mirror.

"I'm sorry, Katherine," Isobel says as Elena wakes up in the backseat of her car. "I had to do what I was told. He wanted the Moonstone and he wanted you." She hangs up the phone, hating to betray her friend.

"He? He who?" Katherine questions, trying to get an answer, but looks around, sensing someone in the house; it's the same Warlock as before. She rushes toward him, and he raises his hand, using a powerful pain-inflicting spell, making her scream as she falls to the ground clutching her head and unconscious.

"Crap," Maddox mutters and gets out his phone. "Hey, Lollipop. You told me to call when I was in town. Want to tell me why?" He frowns. "Helpful as always."

Caroline finally comes home and gets out her phone again, trying to call Matt, but it goes to voicemail again as she stands on her porch. "Hey, Matt, if you're listening to this, that means you've listened to the last 25 messages I've left you, which all say the same thing, so…" She says and spots Matt waiting inside her house; she opens the door, glad to see her boyfriend. "You're here."

"Your mom brought me here," Matt explains.

"My mom?" Caroline questions.

"I accused her of covering up Vicki's death and she threatened to arrest me," He tells her.

"Did you tell her anything else?" She asks him.

"Nothing about you. I got the feeling she wasn't gonna believe anything I said, so I shut up. Then she brought me here to cool down, and then she got called away," Donavan lies.

"Matt…" The blond Vampire mutters, getting closer to him, but he steps back. "Why'd you stick around if you're still scared of me?"

"Because I need to know more about Vicki, about you," Matt tells her.

"I'll tell you anything you wanna know," Caroline assures him.

Bonnie and Jeremy walk outside, leaving the Witch's house. "All right, well, there has to be something in the grimoire pages to help us translate that chant," Jeremy questions.

"It was just a warning," Bonnie tells him.

"Heh. What kind of warning?" He asks her.

"It's not important," She brushes it off.

"Uh, look, it is important to me, okay?" The youngest Gilbert tells her,

"It's a lot of power to have access to. They're just telling me to be careful with it," Bonnie promises him.

"Well, exactly how much power can you draw from a hundred dead witches?" Jeremy questions and they stop in their tracks; she closes her eyes, concentrating, and the leaves around their feet fly around them. The sky grows dark, thunder rumbles above, and Bonnie opens her eyes as the weather returns to normal.

"The answer to your question is a lot," She answers.

Stefan and Damon drive to Isobel's house, get out of the car and storm up to the front door. "Think this is the house?" Stefan asks his brother.

"Better be. It's the nicest foreclosure in town," Damon replies.

"Swear to God if she's not here…." He mutters.

"Don't be such a pessimist," The older Salvatore mutters as they enter the house.

"I got upstairs," Stefan races upstairs, trying to look for his girlfriend, while Damon checks the rest of the house, but nobody's there though he sees Isobel's luggage, and Stefan comes back downstairs, not finding anything.

"This is Isobel's stuff. It's definitely the right place," Damon tells his brother.

"Where are they?" He asks.

"I don't know, Stefan," His brother answers, and they walk back out of the house.

Isobel parks her car at Grove Hill Cemetery, getting out the driver's side, and her little minion gets out the passenger side, walking around to let Elena out of the car. "Just because you can't be compelled doesn't mean I can't force you to come with me," Isobel warns her, and her daughter gets out of the car, following after her birth mother.

"So is that what happened? You were compelled to betray Katherine?" Elena questions as she walks with Isobel through the tombstones.

"If I was, I couldn't tell you," She replies.

"So you lied. You did find Klaus, didn't you? He knows where I am now. Are you taking me to him?" The doppelganger questions and they stop in front of a specific headstone. "What is this?" She watches Isobel brush the fallen dead leaves from the bottom, seeing her name written.

"My parents, your grandparents, they put it here when it became clear that the police weren't gonna find my body. They visit every week, and they bring flowers, even though there's no one buried here. The Isobel they knew is dead. So maybe there's a part of me that's buried here, the - the human part, the part that I abandoned when I - when I chose to become a vampire, the part that used to dream about the day that she'd know her daughter." Isobel explains.

"What?" Elena asks, seeing her birth mother shrug.

"And instead you got to meet the other part... The part that would betray her own flesh and blood," She tells her and her phone rings; she looks to see the name and answers; it's the Warlock from before.

"I have Katherine and the Moonstone. Is the doppelganger safe?" Maddox asks her.

"Yes," Isobel answers.

"Then let her go," He tells her.

"Let her go?" She questions.

"Klaus has everything he needs for now. Your part is finished. You did what he compelled you to do," The Warlock tells her.

"I'm done?" Isobel asks.

"You're done," Maddox repeats, and she hangs up the phone.

"Who was that?" Elena asks her.

"I'm so sorry, Elena... That I was such a disappointment to you," Isobel tells her and yanks her daylight necklace, beginning to burn and catch on fire, screaming in pain. Elena stands in shock as she watches her birth mother fall to the ground on fire as she dies.

Caroline finishes explaining everything to Matt as they sit in her living room. "So after I hurt you in the woods, I made you forget and I promised myself I would stay away from you, but I-I couldn't... 'Cause I love you. I do. I love you, Matt, so much. God, I'm so sorry about what happened to Vicki. And I really wish you'd say something," Caroline tells him.

"I'm all alone," Matt says, looking down as he sits on her sofa.

"No, you're not," She reassures him as she stands in front of him.

"My mom doesn't care, my sister's dead, and all of my friends are liars, and you're a…." He replies.

"I'm still me. I'm still me. It's just I'm just a little bit…." The blond Vampire assures and sits down next to him, but he gets up, not wanting to be near her.

"Don't. No. This is too much. All of this is just too much. I don't want to know this," Matt tells her.

"Tell me what I can do. Tell me what I can do. I... I want to help you," Caroline replies, hating to see him so upset.

"You can make me forget. You've done it to me before," The blond quarterback says, playing along with the lie he and Liz went over.

"I don't-I don't think that that's…." She tries to argue.

"Please make me forget, Caroline. I don't wanna look at you and see what I'm seeing right now," The blond quarterback begs her.

"But maybe after…." Caroline replies, trying to change his mind.

"Just make me forget, Caroline!" Matt snaps at her, making her tear up.

"Okay. Okay, Matt," She agrees, getting up, taking his face in her hands, and beginning to compel him.

Elena sits in the living room at the Salvatore house, fidgeting with Isobel's daylight necklace, when Stefan walks in, joining her on the sofa. "Is that Isobel's?" Stefan asks her.

"I never thought I would feel bad about her being dead, and yet…." Elena replies, her words dying off as she thinks about it again,

"She was your mother," He tells her, trying to give her some comfort.

"Why did they let me go?" She questions, not understanding.

"Well, anything John told Isobel, we have to assume that Klaus knows, right? So he knows that you're not gonna turn yourself into a Vampire. He knows that you have us keeping you safe," He reminds her.

"He knows I'm not gonna run," Elena says, and Damon walks into the room with a piece of paper.

"Which is why we need to take some precautions, 'cause we got played, all of us," Damon tells them, placing the piece of paper on her lap.

"What's this?" She asks, looking at the slip of paper.

"It's the deed to our house. It's in Zach's name. As soon as you sign it, it'll be in your name," Stefan informs her.

"You're giving me your house?" Elena asks him.

"Isobel had the right idea with the safe house. You'll just stay here till it's all over. That way, you can control who gets invited and who doesn't," He tells his girlfriend.

"Although I'll be super pissed if you lock me out," Damon jokes; when John gasps, waking up in the hallway, Damon rushes over to him, picking him up by his shirt, his feet not touching the ground.

"I swear I had no idea what she was gonna do. I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry," John apologises as he hangs in the air.

"Damon, let him go. He and I need to talk," Elena tells him, looking at her birth father and the Salvatore brothers leaving the room, letting them talk alone.

Jeremy reads through the grimoire pages as he sits in his living room, and Bonnie walks into the room, sitting next to him. "I told you to not worry about that," Bonnie tells him, trying to reassure him.

"A warning. That's all you felt like telling me? This is some kind of warning, Bonnie. It says if you use too much of your powers at once, it'll kill you. How much would it take to kill an Original?" Jeremy asks her, growing worried for his girlfriend, not wanting to lose another one so soon.

"All of it," She answers.

"No. I'm not gonna let you do that," The younger Gilbert tells her.

"Jeremy, do you think I was born with these powers so I could float feathers and blow out candles? There's a reason I was called to do this," The Bennett Witch replies.

"No one's called to get themselves killed. Plus Elena's not gonna let you die for her," Jeremy reminds her.

"That's why you're not gonna tell her," Bonnie warns him.

"Do you even understand what you're saying right now?" He asks her.

"It's not just for Elena, Jeremy. It's for you. It's for everyone. If I am the only one who can put an end to this, then it'll be my decision, no one else's. Mine," She tells him and walks off, leaving the house, letting Jeremy stew, his thoughts swirling around, and they land on a specific brunette.

"This is Lorilei's fault. She must have planned this. I knew we shouldn't have trusted her," The youngest Gilbert mutters and jumps off the sofa, needing to talk to the McKnight Witch and grabs his coat before storming out the house and slamming the door behind him.

Matt walks down the road, leaving Caroline alone at home and jumps into Sheriff Forbes' car. "I did it. I drank that vervain stuff. I went over there, and I got her to tell me everything. Then I asked her to take it away," Matt tells her, hating to lie to his girlfriend.

"Thank you, Matt. I know this isn't easy, but... I'm glad you told me what happened last night. I want you to tell me everything she said," Liz replies, hating what her daughter has become.

"I feel like she died," He says and sees she's crying.

"She did," She cries, making him tear up too.

Elena sits facing her birth father, talking. "I always knew that she and Katherine were close but I never realised that Isobel and her were working against me. Two of the world's most uncaring and selfish vampires, and yet they were genuinely friends," John explains.

"If that's what you thought of her, why did you ever put your trust in her at all?" Elena asks him.

"Because I was there when she gave birth to you, Elena. I saw how heartbroken she was to give you up. And because she was the first girl I ever loved, and when she said she'd help keep you safe... I believed her. At this point, I will do whatever you want me to do. If you feel safer with me not around, then I'll go," He tells her, and she doesn't know what to say to that, and he gets up, looking sad.

"You screw up everything, John. Everything you touch just falls apart. But you're the only parent I have left so maybe I can learn not to hate you," She tells him, needing to make him feel better a little.

"Okay," John replies with a small smile.

"Hey, Bonnie said the spell worked. She's locked and loaded," Damon tells his brother as they sit in the library, enjoying a drink.

"At least something went right today. Katherine has no idea that Bonnie got her powers back and Isobel had no idea what you and Jeremy took Bonnie to do today. We're the only ones who know," Stefan replies.

"That literally makes Bonnie our secret weapon," He smirks, unaware that someone is listening.

Lorilei gasps as she comes back with a big smirk and looks at Luka. "Well, what did you find?" Luka asks her.

"The Salvatore's secret weapon," She replies, getting up from her chair. "Bonnie completed the spell. Meaning she'll die killing Klaus. Meaning I would have outsmarted the stupid little Bennett."

"That's if they don't wake Elijah," He reminds her and she looks at him.

"They will," Lorilei smirks. "I've got a plan for that too."

Katherine begins to wake up, finding herself in a strange apartment and hears Maddox casting a spell with someone sitting in a chair in front of him. She sees two vases, one is filled with blood, and the other is empty; she starts to get to her feet and sees Elena's necklace is gone. Maddox steps away, finishing the spell, and Katherine sees the person sitting in the chair, the history teacher, Alaric. Alaric opens his eyes and gets up; the Warlock bends the knee, showing his respect. "Alaric?" Katherine questions, and she runs to the door, but can't get through, trapped inside the apartment as Alaric strolls towards her.

"Zdravei, Katerina," He greets her, taking her face in his hand. "I have missed you."

"Klaus," She gasps as she looks at him with fear.

Jeremy rushes to the door on a nearby street, banging on the door; the door opens a few seconds later to reveal a cute blond teen. "Hey, Jeremy. What's up?" Alexis asks him, seeing his flustered face.

"Is Lorilei McKnight your sister?" He asks her and sees her face turn white in fear.

"How do you know our older sister?" She asks him, stepping out the front door. "She's actually back in town? Where is she?"

"She's staying in an apartment above the old bookshop," Jeremy tells her, and Edward walks over, joining his sister.

"Why is she here?" Edward asks him.

"She came with this Original named Elijah to help him. I need to know why she would give Bonnie a spell that could kill her," He asks the twins, and they share a look.

"After Lorilei killed our parents, she was kicked out of Mystic Falls and Sheila Bennet made sure she couldn't come back to kill us," Alexis explains and looks at her brother, who pulls her into a side hug.

"Wait. She killed your parents? I thought it was an accident?" The youngest Gilbert questions, worried for the twins, though they never talked in school.

"No accident, she just killed them for no reason, we were only 4 or 5, our uncle took us in and told us what happened," Edward explains.

"You should warn your friends about crossing her, Jeremy. She's pure evil. Our uncle called her an abomination. She's not like other Witches," Alexis warns him.

"Thanks. I'll let them know. See you at school," Jeremy says, waving goodbye and walking away, leaving the twins shaking a little in fear at the prospect of their older sister hunting them down and killing them too.
