The Last Dance

Klaric opens the closet door, looks through the shirts and finds two. "Oh!" He groans. "Who is this guy, Safari Sam?" He takes them out and turns to a tied-up Katherine in one of Alaric's chairs in his apartment. "Okay, bad, or badder?" He asks her, showing her the shirts.

"The dark colours suit you better," Katherine answers, terrified of the man.

"Oh, thank you, honey. Okay, pop quiz. The dagger and white ash are in the Salvatore's possession, correct?" He questions, putting on the darker shirt.

"The dagger was used to kill Elijah. You'll find him in the basement of the Salvatore house," She answers him again.

"Okay, that dagger needs to stay exactly where it is. The last thing I need to do is resurrect Elijah. Ohh, that guy is a buzzkill," The Original moans, thinking of his older brother.

"Don't forget you're on the outs with your girlfriend Jenna," The Vampire doppelganger reminds him.

"Right. Elena's aunt. For all the lies about Isobel. What else?" Klaric hints, not believing everything she's told him.

"That's it," Katherine tells him, and he steps closer to her, moving his fingers through her hair, making her flinch in fear of the Original.

"Oh, so jumpy," He teases her.

"Please, just… Kill me. I've told you everything that I know," The Vampire doppelganger pleads with him, wanting the terror to end.

"You see, I believe that you believe that but what would you not know? What could they be keeping from you? Hmm? Anything? Tell me?" The possessed man compels her; she looks into his eyes as he makes her.

"They were trying to see if Bonnie could find a way to kill an Original without a dagger," The doppelganger confesses.

"Bonnie the best friend? I thought you said she didn't have her powers anymore," Klaric asks her, folding his arms as he leans over.

"She doesn't or didn't. I don't know. You kidnapped me, remember? I'm kinda out of the loop," Katherine argues, thinking of the brunette Witch the Salvatores had kidnapped for a while that was working with Elijah. "There was another Witch, the Salvatores had for a while, she was working with Elijah," She blurts out, thanks to the compulsion.

"Oh? And who would that be?" He asks her.

"I don't know her name. I know she lived with him for some time, she was loyal to Elijah. And she hates Bennett Witches," The Vampire doppelganger tells him.

"Well, we'll have to get to the bottom of that. And find out who this mysterious woman is," Klaric comments.

"Please, just kill me, Klaus, and be done with it," Katherine begs him, wanting it over with.

"And show you kindness? I've searched for you for over 500 years. Your death is going to last at least half that long," He informs her with a sinister grin and takes out a switchblade from his pocket, showing the blade. "I want you to take this knife… And stab yourself," He hands it to her, and she takes it, stabbing herself in the thigh with a grunt of pain. "Now take it out," He instructs her, and she pulls it out, wiping the blood away, seeing the injury has already healed. "Now while I'm gone, I want you to do that over and over and over again and if you get bored, switch legs."

"Where are you going?" She asks him.

"I'm gonna go lay eyes on my precious doppelganger," He answers, leaning closer to her, loving the fear in her eyes as he kisses her forehead. "Oh, don't look so glum, Katerina. The fun is just beginning. Again, please," The Original tells her as he walks away, and she stabs herself in the leg again.

Elena and Bonnie sit in the living room as Elena signs the deed to the Salvatore house while the brothers wait outside. "Please sign here and here," Mr Henry instructs her, and she takes the pen.

"Okay," Elena agrees, signing her name.

"So this place is all yours? They just gave it to you?" Bonnie asks her best friend.

"For now. As sole owner, I'm the only one who can invite a certain type of person in here, if you know what I mean," She explains, glancing at the lawyer, who seems none the wiser about what they're talking about.

"Your own personal safe house," The Bennett Witch concludes.

"That's the idea," Elena nods.

"Wouldn't want to clean it," Bonnie jokes as she looks around the living room, making Elena laugh.

The Salvatore brothers wait outside their house while Elena signs the deed. "You really think Bonnie can take on Klaus?" Damon asks.

"She said she could channel enough Witch's power to kill him. Elijah thought that would work and he was an Original, so…" Stefan replies.

"We just need to find him," He sighs, walking over to his brother.

"Yeah," The younger brother agrees.

"Could she do one of those Witch tracking spells?" Damon asks him.

"Nope. Not without something that belongs to Klaus. Believe me, I already asked," Stefan tells him.

"What about Lorilei? She's powerful and seems to have a plan, seeing as she's known Elijah for a long time," The older brother points out, sharing a look with his brother.

"I doubt she'll agree, she does everything for a price, and she could ask for Elijah," He argues, and Damon nods, thinking about her and her tricky ways.

"Do you think he killed her?" Damon suddenly asks.

"Katherine? Probably," Stefan answers, looking at his brother, knowing how much he loved the woman.

"It's not like she didn't have it coming," He comments when Elena walks to the door, opening it for the lawyer.

"Thank you, Mr Henry," Elena waves him goodbye, and the brothers walk towards the front door, but they can't get inside, meaning the plan worked. "I'm sorry. I completely forgot," She walks back to the door with a smile, looking at her boyfriend. "Stefan." The brothers share looks, and one of them isn't happy. "Would you like to come inside my house?"

"I would love to. Thank you," Stefan walks inside as Elena looks at Damon.

"What are we, 12?" Damon challenges, looking at her, not finding it funny.

"One of us is. If I let you in, do you promise to obey the owner of this house?" She asks him.

"No," He answers right away.

"Seriously, Damon. My way. You promised. I call the shots. No lies, no secret agendas. Remember?" The doppelganger warns him.

"Yes, Elena. Sure," The older brother agrees reluctantly.

"Then please, come in," Elena invites him in, and he walks inside, seeing the look on his brother's face.

"Shut up," Damon scowls at his brother as they walk back into the house, but the girls have other ideas as Bonnie walks over to Elena, giving her her jacket and bag for school.

"Thanks," She says, alerting the brothers.

"Wait, where are you going?" Stefan asks his girlfriend.

"To school," The doppelganger answers; the brothers look at each other in shock.

"Huh?" He questions, looking at them.

"No, no, no. We didn't create a safe house for you to leave it," Damon argues.

"Yeah, guys, Klaus is out there. We know that," Stefan reminds them.

"Right. But where?" Elena questions and the brothers don't have an answer. "No one knows. Look, I really appreciate what you guys are doing. And I'll be able to sleep at night knowing that I'll be safe here, but I'm not going to be a prisoner," She looks at Damon.

"Your way, Elena," The older brother replies with a sarcastic smile.

"Don't worry, I'm ready. If he shows his face, I can take him. Know how," Bonnie assures the brothers.

"The way I see it, next to Bonnie is the safest place that I can be. Come on," Elena tells them, and the girls begin to leave; Stefan scoffs in disbelief and looks at his brother.

"Wait, um, coming," He says and walks with the girls out of the house, needing to know she's safe.

Matt knocks on the back door of the Forbes house, needing to talk to the Sheriff, who walks to the door and lets him inside. "Caroline left early for school," Liz tells him.

"I know. I came to see you. I don't know what to do. What to say, how to act around her," Matt freaks out, not wanting to go with the lie much longer.

"You can't let on that you know," She warns him.

"She wants me to take her to the dance. What am I supposed to do?" He asks her, panicking.

"Take her to the dance," The Sheriff answers.

"I'll never get away with it. She knows me too well, she'll figure it out," Matt replies.

"Damn it, Matt, just do it. She's my daughter. She's my baby. I just, I need some time," Liz tells him, tearing up a little.

"I know, but…." He argues.

"Look, if what Caroline told you is true, she's not the only one. The Salvatore's are Vampires. The Gilbert family is in on it. Tyler Lockwood is God knows what," She reminds him.

"A Werewolf," The blond quarterback answers.

"There's no one in this town I can trust. I just need to take a beat and figure out what to do," Liz deflects, needing time.

"That'll never fool her," Matt argues.

"Yes, you will. As far as she knows, you don't remember anything. Buy me some time, Please, Matt," She pleads with him.

Edward looks across the street at the old bookshop, now open with a lick of new blue paint; he sees it's reasonably busy and crosses the road; heading inside, seeing the lovely little cafe area, he notices the guy he's seen around school. He looks around at the books, sees all the different genres and watches at the front counter a beautiful brunette helping a customer with a friendly smile. He grabs a random book off the shelf, looking down to see it's a textbook on Witch lore and walks up to the counter, feeling a little nervous about his older sister recognising him. "Hi, is that everything?" Lorilei asks him, giving him a little smile.

"Yeah," Edward answers as she taps on her touchscreen cash register.

"Cash or card?" She asks him.

"Cash," He answers and fishes out a few bucks.

"That'll be $8.75," The older McKnight tells him, and he gives her the money. "Here is your change," She hands him the change. "Have a nice day," She smiles as he walks away.

Elena sits in class with everyone sitting down, takes the poster for the upcoming decade dance and shows her boyfriend with a smile. He shakes his head, and she turns to the side of her desk, showing Bonnie, who nods. Elena looks back at Stefan with a grin, knowing he'll come with her, and Klaric walks into the room. "Hello, class. Are we learning today?" Klaric asks, standing behind his desk, flipping through Alaric's notebook.

"With the decade dance tonight, we've been covering the sixties all week," Dana answers, making him look at her.

"Right. The sixties," The Original mutters, thinking of his time in the 60s. Klaric spots Elena putting her jacket on the back chair, staring at her a little too long before turning to the board. "The, uh, ahem…" He writes on the board. "The sixties. I wish there was something good I could say about the sixties, but… Actually, they kind of sucked. Except for the Beatles, of course. They made it bearable. Uh, what else was there? The Cuban missile thing, the… We walked on the moon. There was Watergate…"

"Watergate was the seventies, Ric. I-I mean, Mr Saltzman," Elena corrects him and grows flustered with everyone staring at her.

"Right. It all kind of mushes together up here, the sixties, seventies. Thank you, Elena," He replies, looking at her still a little creepily, making her look at him in concern, unaware that it's not Alaric.

Caroline walks out of the school as the other students help prepare for the dance that night; she walks over to Danan, handing over some papers, having seen Matt. "Hey, Dana. Um, can you take care of these?" Caroline asks her.

"Sure," Dana replies, taking them.

"Okay, thank you," She says, walking over to her boyfriend. "Hey," She smiles, and he kisses her, surprising the blond Vampire, but she enjoys it. "What was that for?"

"Just practising for tonight," He tells her, and she laughs at his goofy reply. "So I… Found a suit. If you still want me to be JFK."

"Perfect," Caroline smiles.

Bonnie and Jeremy walk around the cafeteria to find an empty table. "Do you think Elena knows what it's going to take for you to do that Klaus spell?" Jeremy asks her.

"No, and you're not, either," Bonnie tells him.

"Well, she's gotta know you can't do it," He warns, not liking how his girlfriend is okay with dying.

"You don't know I can't. Have a little faith in me," She replies, finding an empty table and sitting down.

"That's not fair. You can't harness the power of a hundred dead Witches. It'll kill you," The young Gilbert warns her.

"Shh! We don't know that for certain," Bonnie reminds him. "You promised to keep my secret, I'm trusting you. I'm going through with this, and if you tell anyone, I swear…."

"What? What are you gonna do?" Jeremy asks her, and he stops his interrogation when Elena walks over, joining them.

"Hey, Jer. How you doing? Are you okay at the house alone with John?" Elena asks, holding a tray of food.

"It's not ideal," He replies, sharing a look with his girlfriend before hitching his bag over his shoulder.

"You haven't heard from Jenna, have you?" She asks him.

"It looks like she's staying on campus instead of coming home. I'm late for class," Jeremy comes up with an excuse and walks away, leaving the two girls as Elena sits down with her best friend.

"What's going on?" Elena asks her.

"I told him he had to dress up tonight and he got all uptight," Bonnie fibs a little.

"Oh," She chuckles, and Dana walks over to them.

"Hey, Elena, there you are. Okay. This is going to sound freaky, but this totally hot guy just asked me to ask you if you're going to the dance tonight," Dana informs the doppelganger.

"Tell him she has a boyfriend," Bonnie tells her.

"You could at least meet him. He'll be at the dance tonight. Look for him. His name is Klaus," She reveals; the two girls look at each other with dread.

"I'm sorry, what did you just say?" Elena asks her, her heartbeat in her ears.

"His name's Klaus. I know the name's stupid, but I swear he's hot," Dana tells her, and Bonnie looks around the room, trying to find him.

"Where is he? Is he here?" Bonnie questions.

"I don't know," She answers.

"She's being compelled," The Bennett Witch whispers.

"But he wants to know if you'll save him the last dance. How cute is that?" The overeager teen gushes a little.

Stefan and Damon pace around as the girls stand in the living room after Elena and Bonnie explain what happened. "So we go to the dance, we find him," Damon tells them.

"Really? How are we going to do that? We don't even know what he looks like," Stefan challenges.

"Something tells me he's not going to be 16 and pimply," He reasons.

"He could be anywhere at any time. He compelled somebody at school," The younger brother reminds him and looks at the girls. "I guess it's not as safe as you guys thought, huh?" Then, someone knocks on the front door, making everyone look as Klaric walks inside.

"There you are," Damon greets his best friend. "Hey, I need you to put me down as a chaperone at the dance tonight. Klaus made his first move."

"Okay, so we find him and then what, hmm? What's our plan of attack?" Elena questions.

"Me. I'm the plan. He has no idea how much power I can channel. If you can find him, I can kill him," Bonnie announces, walking over to the brothers.

"That's not going to be that easy. I mean, he is the biggest, baddest Vampire around," Klaric comments with a small smile.

"Alaric has a point. I mean, what if he…." Damon challenges, and he runs over to the Witch, but she throws him to the other side of the room with her magic without touching him.

"Well, I was impressed," Stefan smirks, liking the move.

"It doesn't matter if he's an Original. I can take down anyone who comes at me. I can kill him, Elena. I know I can," Bonnie assures her.

Klaric storms back into Alaric's apartment, seeing the mess of a leg on Katherine and his Warlock in the kitchen. "Ah, you're right. This Witch is all juiced up and aiming to kill," Klaric strops a little as he walks into the apartment.

"That's terrible," Katherine remarks.

"We're gonna have to kill her, Maddox," He tells his Warlock in the kitchen and goes over to the dresser, opening one of the drawers and looking for something to wear for the dance. "Do you think this Alaric guy has anything vintage?" He looks through the shirts, sees a fake bottom, and opens it to see many Vampire killing weapons. "Crossbows, wooden bullets and automatics? Who is this guy again?" He looks at Katherine, holding one of the crossbows.

"He's the local Vampire hunter," She reminds him.

"Ahh. Well, that explains the clothes," The Original gestures to his outfit.

"All I could find. Guy likes his bourbon," Maddox comments, giving Klaric a glass.

"I knew there was something about him I liked. There's a high school dance and I'm gonna need you to take out Witch bitch," Klaric tells him.

"If she has that much power, she can sense me coming from a mile away. I won't be able to get near her. You have to do it," The Warlock replies.

"In this body? I'm a Haggard history teacher. She can easily hurt me. I mean, not me, Klaus me, but you know what I mean," The Original gestures to his disguise, and Katherine looks at them, listening in.

"No Witch could handle channelling that much power. It'll kill her, It would kill me. You just have to make her use it," Maddox informs him, thinking of what Lorilei told him earlier.

"You mean like provoking her to death?" Klaric questions.

"Won't take long. Just keep attacking her until it kills her. His body, Alaric's, will last longer than hers will," He tells him.

"How? He's human," The possessed man reminds the Warlock.

"I can help in that department. I can do a spell to protect you," Maddox assures him and the Original glances at Katherine, who lowers her head, trying to avoid his gaze. "I know just the girl to call."

"Wait, you don't know the spell?" Klaric asks his Warlock.

"I have a good friend, she has a ton of spells, she makes most of her money in the supernatural." He replies, getting his phone out. "You're up late, Lollipop," He greets her and puts the phone on speakerphone.

"Shut up, Maddie. What do you want now? I thought the possession spell was enough. It reminds me of the old days in college, when you would copy off my homework," Lorilei remarks, making Klaric snicker a little.

"I need a protection spell. A powerful one," The Warlock informs her, and he hears her sigh loudly.

"How powerful," She asks, and they hear pages flipping on the other line. "Is it to kill that Witch bitch? Because I've got a good one."

When her mom arrives, Caroline walks around the house in a cute pink suit, seeing her baby girl dressed up. "There you are! You almost missed me. How do I look?" Caroline asks her mom.

"Jackie O?" Liz guesses, making her daughter giggle.

"Duh," She giggles.

"You look good," The Sheriff comments with a small, sad smile.

"Thanks. Is everything okay?" The blond Vampire questions.

"Ughh, just some work stress," Liz sighs.

"Well, you work too much," Caroline remarks, looking at her mother, and a smile breaks out when she sees Matt knocking on her door, and she laughs, skipping to the door and letting him in. "Mr President."

"Hey," Matt greets her a little stiffly.

"Hi," She smiles, trying to kiss him, but he backs away, looking at the Sheriff behind them and steps out, making his girlfriend laugh.

"Sheriff," He greets her,

"Sorry," The blond Vampire apologises to her mom.

"Have fun," Liz tells them.

"We will," Caroline waves goodbye, and Matt looks at Liz before leaving with his girlfriend.

Elena smiles, looking through boxes of old clothes, trying to find a costume for the dance in Stefan's bedroom as he prepares. "Your relatives were such packrats," Elena comments as she takes out two outfits and shows them to her boyfriend. "Okay, so what do you think? Twiggy or sexy hippy?"

"Ooh. You know it's not too late to back out, right?" Stefan asks her, looking away from the mirror.

"And what, miss out on all the fun?" She jokes, and he walks towards her.

"Hey," He tells her.

"All this time spent worrying about Klaus. I think I convinced myself that he's not real but he is," The doppelganger mutters.

"And tonight, we will put an end to him," Stefan promises her, pulling her into a kiss.

"I love you," Elena whispers.

"I want you to tell me that when the night's over," Stefan tells her, and she kisses him back, enjoying the moment.

"Any time tonight," Damon interrupts their little moment, clearly jealous.

Maddox opens the door to Alaric's apartment and seeing Lorilei on the other side, she walks inside, seeing Katherine. "Hey there mega bitch, how's it going?" Lorilei greets Katherine. "What did you want again, Maddie?"

"Well, Lollipop, I wanted to give you a warning and a thank you for all the spells." Maddox tells her, giving her a glass of bourbon.

"Well, cheers, what's the warning?" She asks him, taking the glass.

"I'm here with Klaus," He confesses, and she looks at him.

"So?" The McKnight Witch questions, seeing the look of confusion on his face. "I kinda figured. You come into town, you need a possession spell and a protection spell too. You're not secretive. When you used to cheat off my homework in college, you'd get caught all the time."

"True. I hear you were with another Original," The Warlock comments.

"I was, till the annoying Salvatore brothers stabbed him," Lorilei explains and gulps down her drink. "He fell for that stupid doppelganger. She batted her little eyelashes at him and then stabbed him."

"Sorry, must suck, I remember the story you told about when your parents kicked you out and he took you in." Maddox remarks, giving her more bourbon.

"Oh, I killed my parents, then got kicked out of this little dinky town and then Elijah took me in." She corrects him, loving the look on his face. "Come on. You've known me for a long time, Maddie. I'm pure evil. Though you are working for Klaus. Is he as evil as Elijah said he was?"

In the school gym, everyone dances on the floor, enjoying the decade dance to the fullest when Klaric walks in, dancing a little, spotting Dana and her date dancing. "Nice outfit, Mr Saltzman. Totally far out," Dana compliments.

"Thank you, Dana. Thank you. Now who is your date?" Klaric asks, patting the teen boy on his shoulder.

"It's Chad, Mr Saltzman, from third period," Chad reminds him, unaware of the man being possessed by a Vampire.

"Chad, of course. How would you and your friends like to earn a little extra credit?" He asks them, coming up with a plan on the spot.

Outside the school, Bonnie and Jeremy arrive, still having the same argument as before, and Jeremy stops his girlfriend. "Wait," He tells her and takes off his ring. "Look, I, um, i want you to have this," He tries to give her the Gilbert ring.

"If you're asking me to go steady, I think that was the fifties," Bonnie jokes a little.

"No, I'm serious, Bonnie," Jeremy argues.

"The ring won't work on me, Jeremy," She argues.

"But it was made by a Witch," The youngest Gilbert points out.

"To protect from the supernatural, not for someone who is," The Bennett Witch reminds him.

"Well, I have to do something. I can't just… I can't just let you get yourself killed," Jeremy snaps at her.

"Just because a bunch of dead Witches gave me a warning doesn't mean I'm going to die," Bonnie lies through her teeth.

"So you're saying there's a 50-50 shot you won't? Look, I'm sorry. But… you know I don't have the best luck in the girlfriend department," He replies, hating how delusional she sounds.

"Hey. listen, I… I can't explain it. But I can feel them. I'm empowered, Jeremy; I can do this. I know I can. I'm strong enough," She promises, pulling him into a hug and spots Damon to walk past them. "Damon."

"Evenin'," Damon greets them, having heard them and walks inside the school when Elena and Stefan walk over to the couple.

"Hey, you two. Oh, you look nice," Elena compliments her best friend, pulling her into a hug.

"You too," Bonnie replies with a fake smile.

"You guys ready to do this?" Stefan asks the girls, and they head inside, unaware that Klaus has already entered the building.

Back inside the school gym, everyone continues to enjoy themselves to a slow dance when Dana goes onto the makeshift stage, making everyone quiet as the music stops. "Thanks for being here, everybody," She greets the crowd, who clap and cheer. "We have a special shout-out tonight," Dana says into the microphone; the little group stop in front of the stage. "This is for Elena. From Klaus," A song begins to play while Elena stands in shock, and Klaric ducks his head, hiding his smile.

"That was a lame, cheap shot. He's just trying to bait us," Damon tells the others.

"I know everyone here," Elena replies.

"Maybe he's not here. Just wants us to believe that he is," Stefan assures his girlfriend, lying a little.

"It's a party, people. Blend. Let him come to us," Damon tells them.

"Good idea," Bonnie agrees, taking Jeremy's arm.

"No, no, I really don't feel like dancing," Jeremy argues.

"Too bad," She replies as they go onto the dance floor, trying to enjoy themselves, and Damon looks around, spotting his best friend.

"There's Ric. I'll be back," Damon tells his brother, walking away to join Klaric.

"Well?" Stefan takes Elena's hand, and they walk onto the dance floor.

"Special dedication, huh? This guy's a little twisted," Klaric comments, hiding his smile.

"I'm not impressed," He replies with a scoff.

"No?" The Original asks, a little disappointed.

"Let me know if you see anything out of whack," The older Salvatore tells him and walks away, leaving an irritated Klaric. Jeremy and Bonnie dance together near Elena and Stefan, and the doppelganger spots Caroline and Matt arriving.

"Caroline's here. They don't know what's going on. We have to tell her," Elena tells Stefan.

"I'm on it," Stefan agrees and looks at his brother before leaving, and Damon walks over, taking Elena, and they dance.

"How you doing?" Damon asks her.

"Um, freaking out a bit. You?" Elena answers honestly.

"Cool as a cucumber. Come on, remember the last decade dance? The Vampire were all, "ahh!" And you were all, "Aahh!"" He jokes a little, imitating scared people.

"Right. And you won," The doppelgänger replies.

"Yes! We did," The older Salvatore smirks and begins dancing, impressing her a little.

"You're good at this," Elena compliments, spinning her away and into his chest.

"I've got moves you've never seen," Damon jests, making her laugh.

"Dance with me," Caroline requests of her boyfriend, Matt, as they walk onto the dance floor.

"I'm a really bad dancer," Matt lies, not wanting to be too close to her for long, but she doesn't see that and giggles as she takes his arm.

"I know better than that," She tells him, taking him onto the dance floor, and they dance, though he's acting a little uncomfortable. "What?"

"You look really pretty tonight," He compliments her, and she goes to reply when Stefan walks up to them.

"Hey, guys," Stefan greets them.

"Hey, man, what's up?" Matt replies.

"Hey. Do you mind if I steal your date for a moment?" He asks the blond quarterback.

"No, not at all. I'll get us something to drink," Donavan says, glad to get away from the two Vampires.

"Thanks," The younger Salvatore replies as Matt walks away, letting Stefan dance with Caroline.

"What's wrong?" Caroline asks him.

"Klaus is here," Stefan announces.

"What?!" She squeaks in shock.

"Yeah," He confirms.

"Where?" The blond Vampire asks him, looking around.

"We have no idea. But keep your eye out for anything that might be weird, okay?" Stefan warns her.

"May I?" Damon asks Jeremy as he walks over to him and Bonnie; the youngest Gilbert storms off, leaving them away as Damon dances with Bonnie.

"You heard Jeremy and me talking, didn't you?" Bonnie questions.

"Is it true?" He asks her.

"Yes," She answers honestly.

"The part about you having a 50-50 shot of surviving? Is that true?" The older Salvatore asks her.

"He was upset. I didn't want him to worry," The Bennett Witch replies.

"So you lay it out on the line for Elena, no matter what," Damon questions.

"No matter what," Bonnie confirms.

"Good," He agrees.

"You can't tell her," She warns him.

"Your secret's safe with me, but I mean… With all that power, isn't there a way to increase your odds?" The Vampire questions.

"Careful, Damon. I might start to think you actually care," Bonnie jokes.

"We wouldn't want that," Damon jokes, spinning her around as she looks at him in surprise.

"What are they up to?" Elena asks her brother as she stands beside him, both siblings watching Bonnie and Damon.

"Who knows?" Jeremy replies.

"Is there something going on, Jer? You okay?" She asks him.

"Fine. I'm fine," The youngest Gilbert lies, stomping off, and Stefan walks over to her.

"Everything all right?" Stefan asks her.

"I'm not sure," Elena answers, growing worried for her brother, and Stefan follows after to make sure the young Gilbert is going to be okay and follows him into the empty hallway.

"Jeremy. What are you doing? Elena thinks we should stick together," He warns the teen.

"Yeah, I'm fine. I've got my ring," Jeremy assures him, and he thinks hard before he speaks again. "It's… It's Bonnie."

"What is it?" The younger Salvatore asks him, "Hey, you got something on your mind, spit it out."

"If Bonnie takes on Klaus, channelling all that energy's going to kill her," He reveals, shocking the Vampire.

"What?" Stefan gasps.

"But she doesn't want Elena to know, 'cause if Elena knows, she's gonna try to stop her. And it's Elena that could turn up dead, so… What am I supposed to do?" Jeremy questions while inside; everyone is dancing, enjoying themselves, even Damon; as he dances between two girls, Bonnie watches him, smiling at his goofy attitude, and Elena stomps toward her.

"I need to talk to you," Elena demands, needing to talk to her after what Stefan told her, what Jeremy told him. Damon watches them, Bonnie looking back at her, and Stefan pulls him aside.

"Come here, come here, come here. Please tell me you didn't know that Bonnie was on a suidide mission," Stefan snaps at his older brother.

"Oh, great. Jeremy told you and of course you told Elena," Damon snaps back.

"Yeah, I told her. You promised her no more secrets," The younger brother argues.

"I changed my mind," The older Salvatore retorts.

Elena pulls Bonnie outside, needing to talk in private. "How could you not tell me?" Elena demands answers.

"'Cause I knew how'd you react," Bonnie replies calmly.

"No. No way, it's not an option," She argues.

"It's our only option," The Bennett Witch reasons.

"Then we'll find another way, okay? Bonnie, you're not dying to save my life," Elena refutes.

"I have the power to save you! If I don't use it and something happens, that would kill me more," Bonnie argues.

"I can't let you," She tells her.

"Just answer one question… If the situation was reversed, would you do it for me?" The Witch challenges, seeing her best friend without an answer. "So you know I know too."

"No. No!" The doppelganger snaps, shaking her head

Jeremy walks down another empty hallway, needing to clear his head when Chad and two friends stroll over to them. "What's going on, guys?" Jeremy asks them.

"You okay, Gilbert? You don't look so good," Chad taunts him.

"Dude, seriously? Wrong day, wrong guy," He warns them when the group of boys rush towards the young Gilbert, grabbing him around the chest, grappling with him and Chad throws a punch. The boys throw Jeremy to the floor, kicking him when the Salvatore brothers arrive.

"Hey, idiots!" Damon shouts, gaining the boys' attention, who turn to the two Vampires, one raising their arm revealing a crossbow; one of the boys pulls the trigger and impales Damon's shoulder with a stake, making him grunt in pain. The other boys pull out other weapons, pointing them at both Vampires. "Let me guess. Klaus says hi." Stefan rushes towards two of the boys, knocking them unconscious, while Damon speeds towards the boy who staked him, grabbing him and about to kill him with the same stake.

"No, no, no, no, don't kill him. He's compelled," Stefan warns his brother, making him stop.

"So?" The older Salvatore argues.

"So, the whole thing's a distraction. Go find Bonnie and Elena. I got this. Go," He tells him, and Damon throws the guy against the lockers and runs off to find the girls.

Klaric jogs up to Bonnie and Elena while the Salvatore brothers are distracted inside the school. "Elena!" Klaric calls out to her, running up to the girls.

"What is it?" She asks him.

"He has Jeremy," He lies.

"What?" Elena and Bonnie gasp.

"Yeah, Klaus has Jeremy. Come on," The Original tells them, and they follow him back into the school, unaware it's a trap.

The girls jog to keep up with Klaric as he takes them down a series of hallways, searching for Jeremy. "Okay, so where are you taking us?" Elena asks him.

"Just a little further," Klaric answers.

"What… Something's not right," The human whispers, looking around.

"Where's Jeremy?" Bonnie asks him, making him stop, and they follow as he chuckles to himself a little.

"I just had to get away from that dance. The sixties," Klaric scoffs, turning to face the girls. "Not my decade," He laughs. "I mean, whose call was that, anyway? I much prefer the twenties. The style, the parties, the jazz."

"Alaric. Are you on vervain?" Elena questions.

"Now why would you ask me that question, Elena?" Klaric stops in his tracks.

"He's being compelled," She guesses.

"Nope. Try again," The Original tells her.

"What's going on?" The doppelganger asks him.

"Okay, I'll give you a hint. I am not Alaric," The Original reveals.

"Klaus," Elena gasps in shock, looking at him.

"Surprise!" Klaric teases them.

"Oh, no. No. it's not possible," The doppelgänger sputters in shock.

"Just relax, Elena. I'm not here to hurt you. You're not on my hit list tonight," He assures the doppelganger and turns his stare at the Bennett Witch. "But you are," He steps towards them, and Bonnie throws him against the wall, hard with her magic, but he gets back up. "Now, did I mention that I knew a Witch? You're gonna have to hit me a lot harder than that." He runs toward her, but she pushes him back into a display case; he crashes through the glass and onto the floor, but he seems unfazed as he laughs. "By all means… Fire away!" He provokes the Witch, getting back on his feet. "If you kill this body, I'll just get a new one. Maybe Jeremy."

"Go. Run. Run!" Bonnie yells, pushing Elena, and they run down the hallway into another; Bonnie closes the doors behind them with her powers, and they slow down when Damon jogs up to them.

"What happened?" Damon asks them.

"Klaus is in Alaric's body," Elena wheezes a little from all the running.

"What?" He blurts.

"He's possessing it or something," Bonnie informs him, and he looks at the doppelganger.

"Go find Stefan. Now," Damon tells her, but she doesn't move.

"Okay." Elena agrees but still doesn't move.

"Now," He raises his voice, and she runs off, leaving them alone. "Can you kill him?"

"He's got some kind of protection spell," Bonnie warns.

"You have the power of a hundred Witches. Break it," The older Salvatore argues.

"I'm trying! If I kill Alaric, he'll just possess someone else. He knows I have my power, Damon. He's trying to kill me," She tells him.

"No. Klaus does not get to win tonight, no way. You still willing to do whatever it takes to kill him?" Damon questions.

Lorilei stumbles up towards the school, a little drunk from drinking with Maddox earlier; she's not too sure why she decided to go to the one place that should have made her feel safe away from her hellhole of a home. Still, the evil teenagers did nothing, and the teachers were just as evil. She sits on the grass as she watches the teens seemingly enjoying themselves at the decade dance; she remembers her last dance in this town.

A young Lorilei stood in the school gym, loving the prom decorations; though she didn't have a date, she just wanted one typical night. Looking around the room, she saw all the mean girls and the boys who never paid attention to her. But somehow, she knew it was a joke when the school principal called her name for Junior Prom Queen with the most popular boy in school. Lorilei walked up onto the makeshift stage slowly, having a bad feeling about it as she stood next to him; she looked out at the crowd of teens that made her life a misery, along with her parents, who stayed at home to look after her siblings. Once Lorilei was crowned Prom Queen, she waited for the punchline, and it didn't take long as she felt thick liquid fall over her head and run down her body. There were no shocked faces among the crowd except for the faculty; the students were all laughing, and some even had video cameras recording the whole thing. "How's it feel to be Carried? Lorilei?" The evilest bitchiest girl in the school shouted as everyone laughed. Lorilei stood in shock as the blood ran down her body onto the floor; she looked out into the crowd, growing angry, wishing she could just disappear.

"Carrie?" Lorilei muttered, having watched it in English class a few weeks before prom, and she stepped toward it, mustering up the saved magic she accidentally took from the twins. She muttered a spell under her breath, creating a powerful illusion, making everyone scream and run out of the gym. Lorilei watched them scramble out in a mass of panic, some of the students and teachers getting hurt, but she couldn't let them know she was really a Witch. "They wanted Carrie; they got Carrie," She walks down the steps of the stage, glad she watched the movie as that was what they were living through her crazy telekinetic attack. Lorilei watched with a bit of glee as the gym cleared, and she walked home, knowing she was in for it, but Lorilei didn't know what she was walking into.

Lorilei lies on the grass, looking up at the night sky, wishing she had a drink. "I hate this town," She mutters, not knowing someone is watching them.

"Lorilei," Edward gasps and runs back into the school building, pumping into Elena as she bursts into the gym; they walk different ways. Elena walks onto the dance floor, trying to find Stefan, and bumps into Caroline and Matt.

"Hey! Are you okay?" Caroline asks her, seeing her panicked look.

"Um… Yeah. I'm just… I'm looking for Stefan," Elena answers, and she spots her boyfriend.

"Seriously, what's wrong?" She asks him.

"Uh, just, um, stay with Matt, okay?" The doppelganger tells her and walks over to Stefan.

"WHat was that about?" Matt asks his girlfriend.

"Oh, you know, just same old drama," The blond Vampire replies, trying to avoid the subject. Edward finds his sister, pulling her away from her date.

"Hey, Eddie!" Alexis yelps, pushing him away.

"She's here," Edward announces, and they rush off, heading outside.

Bonnie walks down the hallway alone with a plan, entering the empty and dark cafeteria, and sees Klaric sitting at a chair, his feet on the table, with a knife in hand. "What took you so long? Now, do you want to do this the easy way or the hard way?" He questions, and she breaks his wrist with her magic, making him grunt in pain and twist it back into place. "The hard way. Got it." He stands up, and she breaks his shoulder, making him grunt in pain. "What? You'd kill your favourite history teacher?" He places his shoulder back.

"It's what Alaric would want. And he'd want you to suffer first," She replies, and her nose begins to bleed.

"Look at you," The Original mutters as she wipes the blood away. "Is that all you got?"

"Let's find out," Bonnie challenges him, sticking to the plan.

Edward pulls his sister out of the school building, looking for Lorilei, but she's nowhere to be seen. "I thought you said she was here?" Alexis asks her brother.

"She was here, I saw her, she was sitting on the grass," Edward tells her.

"But what was she doing here?" She wonders.

"I don't know," He mutters.

Elena and Stefan run along the hallway, coming across Damon, who runs through the doors in front of them. "There you are," Damon exclaims.

"What are you doing? Where's Bonnie?" Elena demands.

"She's doing what she has to do," He answers.

"What?" She questions.

"Where is she?" Stefan asks his brother.

"Stefan, let her do this," The older brother warns him.

"Damn it, Damon, where is she?!" He demands.

Bonnie continues to assault Klaric with her magic, overwhelming him; the cafeteria becomes a mess as the lights flicker above them, and a strong wind blows in, the flyers swirling around. Klaric tries to get up on his broken leg, but the Bennett Witch keeps going. While outside, Elena and Stefan run down the hallway heading towards her; they come across the cafeteria, seeing an injured history teacher and an overwhelmed Witch, blood running down her face. "Bonnie, no!" Elena shouts, alerting them to the couple's presence, and Bonnie shuts the doors on them, not letting them inside as she attacks Klaric. Stefan tries to open the door, but he can't as they watch her; the room is a complete mess as Bonnie continues to attack the Original. Bonnie looks back at her best friend with a small, sad smile before turning to face Klaric, who seems ready for the next assault, when she twitches, arching her back and falls to the floor. Everything stops, and the doors open; Elena and Stefan burst into the room, rushing over to the fallen Witch. "No! Oh! Bonnie! Bonnie, Bonnie!" Elena cries as she takes her best friend into her arms, Stefan looks around them, but Klaric has disappeared. "Stefan, she's not breathing!" She looks at her boyfriend in tears. "Stefan! Stefan, I can't find her pulse! Stefan! Do something, please! Stefan, please! Just give her blood, do something, please!"

"It's too late. I'm sorry," Stefan tells her, watching his girlfriend cry.

"No! No. No, no, no, no, no! Bonnie! Bonnie, please, no! No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no!" She weeps, and Damon walks into the room; Stefan notices and turns to look at him.

"Stefan, get Elena out of here. I'll deal with the body," Damon gets up.

"What do you mean, deal with it?" She demands.

"The Sheriff can't know about this. Last thing we need's another mysterious death," He replies, crouching down next to the body.

"This is Bonnie!" Elena snaps at him, and he ignores her outburst.

"Get her home. Now," Damon instructs his brother; looking at her, Stefan walks over to his girlfriend, helping her up to her feet.

"Hey, hey, hey," Stefan soothes her as she bursts into tears.

"No. Jeremy. Oh, my God, Jeremy. What about Jeremy?" Elena sobs.

"I'll find him," Damon assures her, and she gets up, looking down at her best friend's body and begins crying heavier and screaming as her boyfriend drags her out. Damon stays behind alone with Bonnie; seeing her eyes open, he closes them, giving himself a moment.

Damon carefully places Bonnie's body into the trunk of his car, closing it when Jeremy jogs up to him. "Damon! Hey, I got your m? Where's can't find anyone. Where's Elena, where's Bonnie?" He asks, out of breath.

"We need to have a little talk," Damon replies somberly.

Elena sits in front of the roaring fire, a blanket wrapped around her, still in shock from what happened. Stefan walks over to her with a warm tea, trying to soothe her. "Hey," He whispers. "Here, drink this," He offers the cup.

"I can't," She replies in tears.

"Yeah. Yeah, you can," Stefan assures, crouching next to her. "Please drink this," She takes the glass, crying as she tries to take a sip.

"This is my fault," Elena bawls, tears streaming down her face.

"No, no, no, no, no. No. Hey. This was Klaus. Listen to me. Klaus did this," He tells her, wiping the tears; when the door opens, and Damon walks in, they watch as he closes the door.

"What did you do with her?!" The doppelganger demands, getting to her feet.

"Will you please calm her down?" Damon asks his brother, looking at her as he walks into the living room.

"Don't talk like I'm not standing right in front of you," Elena snaps at him.

"Please calm down," He tells her, looking her way, trying to get her calm enough to say to her what happened.

"You knew! Didn't you? You knew that if she harnessed all that power, that she would die, didn't you?" The doppelganger questions in anger.

"Yes. Yes, I knew," The older Salvatore admits, and she slaps him in anger. Stefan looks at his brother, worried about what he'll do, but he doesn't do anything. "You need to listen to me and prepare for what I'm about to say. Bonnie had to die. Klaus using Alaric's body was a total surprise. She wasn't prepared for that. And he wasn't going to stop, and we weren't going to be able to stop him until he knew she was dead. He had to believe it." Elena looks at him, sniffling with tears running down her face as she listens to him, hoping what he's leading up to is true.

While Damon explains to Elena what happened, Jeremy walks down into the basement of the Witch's house, and he sees Bonnie lying on the floor; as he lights the candles around her and on the last one, she gasps awake. He rushes over to her side, "Hey, hey, hey," Jeremy smiles as he pulls her into a hug, glad to see her alive, laughing in the joy that his girlfriend is back in his arms again, the smile on her face is more relief that the spell worked and being back in her boyfriend's arms.

"She cast a spell. She's alive, Elena. Bonnie's okay," Damon announces and walks off, leaving Elena to muddle over his words, and Stefan follows him as he goes upstairs.

"You know, you could have told me," Stefan argues.

"How do I know when you're going to go blabbing things to your girlfriend?" He questions.

"You understand what you put her through?" The young Salvatore asks him.

"See, that's why I didn't tell you," Damon retorts. "'Cause you would have never been able to do it. Don't get me wrong, Stefan. I don't mind being the bad guy. I'll make all the life and death decisions while you're busy worrying about collateral damage. I'll even let her hate me for it. But at the end of the day, I'll be the one to keep her alive." He leaves his brother with that, heading upstairs, not before giving his brother a long stare.

Jeremy sits with Bonnie in the basement, glad she's alive and gets out his laptop, puts it on his lap and opens it up. "You sure it's safe here?" He asks her.

"Yeah, I'm sure," She assures him, and he takes something from his bag. "What is that?" She looks at the little device.

"It is MIFI. If we're gonna be stuck here, then we might as well have internet," Jeremy tells her, turning it on.

"You don't have to stay down here with me," Bonnie replies, though she doesn't want to be alone.

"Hey, look, I'm not letting you out of my sight," The young Gilbert reassures his girlfriend.

"I… I need you to talk to Elena for me. Tell her how sorry I am for what Damon and I had to do," The Bennett Witch requests as he taps some keys on his laptop.

"Well, um… Why don't you tell her yourself?" Jeremy tells her, turning the screen to her, showing that Elena is on a webcam.

"Elena, I'm so sorry," Bonnie apologises, tears welling up a little.

"It's okay, it's okay. I just needed to see you from myself," Elena assures her best friend, making her cry.

"There wasn't enough time for me to tell you," She tells her.

"It's okay, seriously. Damon explained it all to me," The doppelganger replies, and they continue to talk.

Damon finishes changing, and Elena walks to his bedroom, also changed out of her dance clothes. "Ugh. Look. Klaus had to think she was dead," Damon groans, seeing her leaning in his doorway. "Your reaction had to be real."

"I understand why you did what you did. Klaus was fooled, and Bonnie's alive," She replies.

"Here's to duplicity," He jokes, raising his glass.

"But let's get one thing straight, Damon," She tells him, walking into the room. "Bonnie will not die for me, I will not let that happen."

"We need to kill Klaus, Elena. Real Klaus. Who will probably be coming to pay you a visit soon now that he knows Bonnie is dead. She's the only one who can do it," The older Salvatore reasons.

"We'll find another way," Elena replies.

"I hope so," Damon smiles back.

"Look, I shouldn't have hit you," She apologises, tucking her hair behind her ear.

"Apology accepted. Let me be clear about something, If it comes down to you and the Witch again, I will gladly let Bonnie die. I will always choose you," He looks into her eyes, seeing the conflict, not saying anything for a moment.

"Good night, Damon," The doppelganger ducks her head.

"Good night," The older Salvatore says, watching her leave the room and close the door behind her.

Elena walks downstairs, looking around before heading into the basement and opening the cellar; she looks at Elijah's desiccated body, crouches down, grabs the dagger, removes it from his chest, and sits down next to the body.
