Klaus
Elena sits by the cellar door, waiting for Elijah to wake, but it seems to take hours as early as morning comes, when he suddenly wakes, jerking around, his bones cracking as colour comes to his face. Elena rushes over to him, seeing him in distress, he looks around, disorientated, and he looks at her in shock. "Katerina!" Elijah gasps as he's thrown into a memory.
Inside an English castle owned by the Original Family in the early 1400s, Trevor spoke with one of the women at the party. Then, he walked over to Elijah, who was talking to one of the Lords. "Ah, good evening, Trevor," Elijah greeted him and nodded goodbye to the Lord, who walked away. "I am pleased you could join us."
"I could not miss the birthday celebration," Trevor replied.
"No, considering the gift you claim to bear. Where is this mystery girl of which you speak?" The Nobel Original questioned, looking around the ballroom.
"Right this way," He told him, walking across the room with Elijah following him. "My dear," He whispered, and the woman turned, revealing Katherine, who smiled innocently at the man.
"Hello," Katerina greeted Elijah, who looked at her in shock, seeming lost for words as he openly stared at the beautifully innocent-looking woman.
Elena tries to calm Elijah down, not wanting Stefan or Damon to hear them having no desire to have the impending argument of waking the Original. "Elijah; it's me, it's Elena ," She assures him, trying to keep him quiet.
"Oh my God," Elijah mutters as he gets pulled back into his memories.
"Forgive me. You remind me of someone," Elijah apologised as he tried to stop openly staring at her.
"Katerina, may I introduce the Lord Elijah," Trevor introduced the woman to the Original. She looked at him in shock, taking his hand and curtsies.
"Pleasure, my Lord," Katherine greeted him.
"The pleasure's mine. Katerina," The Nobel Original replied, kissing her hand.
Elijah closes his eyes, his head falling back as Elena looks around, worried for the Original. She goes to touch him, and when his body twitches, writhing around on the ground, she backs away in fright as he slowly gets up to his feet. "I can't- I can't breathe!" Elijah gasps, trying to catch his breath. "What's happening to me?" Elena tries to talk, but nothing comes out. He rushes to the door but slams into the wall, knocking him a little. She runs over to him, holding him still. "I can't… I can't be in this house," He tells her, and she realises something.
"You're not invited in," Elena mutters.
"I can't be in here," He gasps and pulls out of her hold, rushing out of the cellar, slamming against another wall before disappearing. Elena looks around and runs to follow him upstairs, looking around, hoping the brothers haven't heard anything.
Elena walks to the front door, where Elijah crouches, catching his breath. He looks up, sees her and rushes to the door, trying to enter, but is knocked back by the invisible force that keeps him outside. "What happened?" Elijah demands, and she shushes him, pointing up, meaning the Salvatore brothers may hear them.
"I'll tell you. Not here. Can I trust you?" Elena whispers.
"Can I trust you?" He whispers back, and she sighs, giving him the dagger, which he takes. Once Elena and Elijah have gone, Stefan wakes up in his bed alone and rushes downstairs.
"Elena?" Stefan calls for his girlfriend and comes across Andie. "Hey."
"Hey," Andie replies.
"Have you seen Elena?" He asks her.
"Uh, no," She replies, and Damon walks over, taking the cup of coffee off her.
"Hi, sweetie. Oh, my coffee," Damon smiles into a kiss. "Good morning."
"Mm, good morning," The newscaster mumbles into the kiss.
"Hey, where's Elena?" Stefan asks his older brother.
"I don't know, Stefan. It's your girlfriend. Mine's right here," Damon answers, looking at Andie. "Oh, and how's the shoulder? Got time for a bite? I'm so hungry."
"Oh, it's really messy. Can you use a blood bag today?" She asks him, and Stefan gets out his phone and punches Elena's number. "I'm already late for work."
"No!" He grumbles, pouting a little, and Stefan gets Elena's voicemail.
"Hey, it's me. Where are you? Call me," Stefan leaves a message and hangs up, looking at the kissing couple before him. "What are you doing? She's not a wind-up toy." The couple looks at him, not impressed.
"It's really none of your business, is it, Stefan?" Andie retorts.
"Yeah. What she said," Damon agrees with his fake girlfriend.
"I have to go to work," She kisses him goodbye.
"Ugh! Bye," He kisses her back, and she walks away. When Stefan sees that the basement door is open, growing worried, he jogs over. Damon also sees it and follows him down into the cellar, seeing it empty. "No, she didn't."
Klaric walks Maddox to the door while Katherine makes coffee. "I'll be back as soon as I can," Maddox assures him.
"Yes, do hurry. I'm anxious to get out of this body. And if you get hung up, call me. You know how impatient I get," Klaric warns him, closing the door behind him.
"Where is he going?" Katherine asks, holding out a cup for the Original.
"To retrieve me. So I can get out of this bad hair-do," The possessed man replies, taking the mug.
"Are you sure that's a good idea, Klaus?" She asks as he walks around the kitchen island.
"Well, the full moon is almost upon us," The Original reminds her, putting the Moonstone on the table. "I've killed the Witch, I have the Moonstone, and the doppelganger is waiting in the wings. Ohh, I am ready to break this curse."
"And why would you do that here? There's so many people that would try to stop you," The Vampire doppelganger argues.
"Because I have to. It's the birthplace of the doppelganger," Klaric informs her.
"I didn't realise that was a requirement," Katherine replies.
"Well, how could you? You betrayed me and fled England before I could give you the details, Katerina. But I did find your birthplace and I slaughtered your family. So I guess we're cool. Let's just hope that Elena isn't as stupid as you are," He remarks, walking toward her, making her flinch slightly in fear, though she tries not to show her fear as he moves some of her hair away from her face.
"She won't run. She'll die before she lets anyone that she loves get hurt," She argues.
"And that's exactly what I'm counting on," The older Vampire retorts. "You can't leave until I tell you to," He compels her and walks out the door with a jacket.
Elena parks her car a reasonable distance from the Salvatore house and turns off the car, looking at Elijah in her passenger as he finishes another blood bag. "You look better," Elena compliments, nervous around the Nobel Original.
"Where did you get the dagger?" Elijah demands, hoping that after his time asleep that nothing happened to Lorilei and that she's okay.
"I'll tell you everything. But we have to work together, Elijah. I need your word," She tells him.
"Your ability to make demands has long passed," He replies.
"No demands. I'm offering you my help. And In return, I want yours," The doppelganger retorts.
"And why should I even consider this?" Elijah questions,
"The same reason that you haven't killed me. You need my help to kill Klaus. And I need you," Elena tells him, seeming sure of herself, and she hears her phone ring again, takes it out of her pocket, seeing that it's Stefan and answers.
"Where are you? Are you okay?" Stefan asks her before she can say anything.
"Yes, I'm fine," She assures him.
"Where's Elijah?" He asks her.
"He's right here," The doppelganger answers.
"Where? I'm on my way," The overprotective boyfriend replies, ready to rescue her.
"No, Stefan, Elijah and I need some time alone," Elena tells him.
"Listen to me. He can't be trusted. He'll use you to get to Klaus," Stefan warns her, finding her too naive.
"Elijah is a noble man, Stefan. He lives by a code of honour. I can trust him," She looks at the Original, who questions the young girl. "He knows that I'd be incredibly stupid to betray him again. By removing the dagger, I have proven myself."
"You can't do this alone," He tells her.
"It's my decision, Stefan. Please respect it. And make sure that Damon doesn't do anything stupid. I'll be in touch," She hangs up the phone, and Elijah holds out his hand for her phone, which she gives it up, handing it over.
"Did she just hang up on you?" Damon questions as he looks at his younger brother, sitting opposite him in the living room.
"She did," Stefan answers.
"She's lost it," He comments with a huff, growing annoyed.
"If anyone can get him to help us kill Klaus, it's her," The younger Salvatore reasons.
"Bonnie's the way to kill Klaus, Stefan," Damon argues. "He thinks she's dead. We have a chance with her."
"She'll kill herself in the process. Elena's looking for another way," Stefan argues.
"Her way's going to get her killed. So we need to find her and stop her," The older brother argues back, getting to his feet, and he follows after him.
"No, you need to back off," He warns.
"What?!" Damon snaps.
"Look, I don't like this any more than you do. But we need to trust her. We gotta just let her do her thing," Stefan replies calmly.
"That might be your plan. Mine's better," The older Salvatore retorts and goes to leave, but Stefan catches his arm, turning the older Salvatore towards him.
"I said back off," The younger brother repeats.
Lorilei huffs as she looks at herself in the mirror, fixing her hair into a thick pink ribbon, and she walks out of the bathroom, seeing Luka sitting and watching something on the T.V. "This is taking too long. We need to move now. With Klaus being here, Greta must not be far behind," Luka argues, looking at the McKnight Witch as she puts on her pale lipstick.
"Maddox said that Klaus was here. And i was in the apartment. Greta wasn't there, I'd rather wait until he does the ritual, seeing as he'll need some help," Lorilei argues. "How do I look?"
"Why?" He asks, looking at her black outfit.
"I'm going to ask for Elijah back. I need to hide the blood stains if it comes to it." She replies with a smirk that could kill.
"He's here," Elena announces, filling the silence in her car.
"Klaus is here?" Elijah questions, looking at her, and she moves in her seat, looking him in the eye.
"He's taken over Alaric's body," The doppelganger informs the Original, who turns away, looking at something off in the distance.
"Of course he has. One of his favourite tricks," Elijah comments, thinking back to the memory that has been playing on his mind since he woke up.
"Well, what are his other tricks? What is he going to do next? You're the only one who knows him," Elena argues, needing to save her friends and family.
"Yes, I do," He agrees, his mind wandering back to the past.
Elijah walked Katherine through the ballroom filled with people for the birthday celebrations. "So, where is this mysterious host I've heard so much about?" Katherine inquired as she looked around, trying to get a glimpse of the mysterious man.
"Fashionably late. He likes to make an entrance," Elijah assured her, and they stopped, and he saw someone coming down the stairs. "Here he is," The Noble Original pointed toward his younger brother. Katherine looked around and saw someone hidden within the crowd as they came towards the pair, and she finally saw him. "Katerina, may I introduce to you the Lord Niklaus." Elijah watched the exchange as Katherine, in a trance, looked at the man, curtsying, and Klaus took her hand, kissing it, both of them never breaking eye contact.
"Niklaus is the name my father gave me. Please. Call me Klaus," He introduced himself with a smirk.
Elena takes herself and Elijah to the Lockwood estate at his request, and he knocks on the door. Seconds later, Carol opens it, seeing the pair on the other side. "Elijah, Elena! What are you doing here? What happened?" Carol asks them, seeing the state of the Original's suit.
"I've had a bit of an incident, Carol. I'm hoping you could help," He asks her.
"Well, I'm on my way to a meeting, so I—"She tries to argue, but he steps forward, stopping her from leaving.
"We won't take but a minute of your time," Elijah compels her, changing her mind as she gives him a friendly smile.
"Of course. Anything you need," Carol tells him, opening the door.
"Thank you," The Original replies, walking inside with Elena trailing behind him. "Well, first things first. I'm going to need a change of clothing."
"Well, we can try one of my husband's suits. I haven't boxed them up yet," She offers.
"Wonderful," He replies, and the Mayor goes upstairs.
"How did you know she's not on vervain?" Elena whispers, looking at the Nobel Original.
"'Cause I'm the one who got her off it. Right before ou and your friends killed me. Twice. If you'll excuse me. I'll be done in a moment. And we'll talk about what happened to Lorilei," Elijah tells her, following Carol upstairs.
Stefan walks into the hallway into the living room with his brother, waiting for a call from Elena, when his phone rings. "Hello?" He answers, hoping it's Elena, but it's not.
"Hey, Stefan. It's Jenna," She replies, seeming flustered.
"Jenna, hey," He replies, looking at his brother as he takes a drink.
"Where's Elena? And Jeremy? No one's answering their phones," Jenna tells him as she stands in her kitchen at home.
"Ah, Elena's not here at the moment. Is, uh, is everything okay?" Stefan asks her.
"She left me all these weird messages telling me to stay away from Ric. What's going on?" The strawberry blond questions, growing worried.
"It's really hard to explain over the phone, but, um, she was hoping that you could stay on campus for a little while longer," The younger Salvatore tells her, knowing how his girlfriend wants her aunt safe while Klaus is in town.
"Oh, that's kinda hard to do from my kitchen," Jenna replies.
"Wait, you're home?" Stefan asks her, growing worried and shares a look with Damon.
"Yeah. What's going on? Where's Elena? i'm supposed to meet Ric at the Grill for lunch, to talk," She informs him.
'Jenna, listen to me carefully. Whatever you do, do not meet Alaric at the Grill. I'm going to come over right now, and I'll explain everything," He promises, hanging up the phone before she can reply. The younger brother looks at Damon as he pours himself another drink.
"Wow, I'd love to lend you a hand, but you wouldn't want me doing anything stupid." Damon replies in a mocking tone.
"It's seriously going to be like this?" Stefan asks his brother, growing bored of his attitude.
"You and your girlfriend are calling the shots. I'm just backing off, Stefan," He mocks his younger brother, taking a sip, and Stefan huffs before running off, leaving Damon alone, but not for long as Andie walks over to her fake boyfriend. "Hi."
"Hi," Andie greets him back.
"Let's go," He tells her, looking smug.
"Where are we going?" She asks him.
"Splitting from the team. Going rogue. Come on," The older Salvatore replies and steers her out the back.
Now wearing one of Richard Lockwood's old suits, Elijah and Elena sit in the Lockwood living room, reviewing what happened while he was daggered. "So I assume that the Martin Witches are no longer with us?" Seeing how unnerved she is, he questions her, biting her fingernails a little.
"No. I'm sorry," Elena replies, shifting in her chair.
"Lorilei?" Elijah asks; seeing the look in his eyes, Elena shifts in her seat, not wanting to look at him.
"She was held by Stefan and Damon. But she escaped," She answers, seeing his jaw clench in anger,
"And Katerina? She would have been released from my compulsion when I died," The Nobel Original adds.
"Klaus took her. We think that she may be dead," The doppelganger informs him.
"I doubt that. Not Klaus' style. Death would be too easy for her after what she did." Elijah assures her.
"I don't understand. You say that you want Klaus dead, but you still made Katherine pay for betraying him," Elena questions, looking at him.
"I have my own reasons for wanting Katherine to pay. There was a time… I'd have done anything for Klaus," Elijah replies, pulled into another memory from long ago.
"From where have you come, Katerine?" Klaus asked Katherine at his birthday celebration.
"I'm new to town, my Lord," She answered, avoiding the question, and Elijah looked at his brother with a smile.
"Katerina is from Bulgaria," Elijah answered for her.
"Zradevei, Katherina," Klaus said, making the girl laugh.
"Very good," Katherine giggled; Klaus looked at his older brother, seemingly a little smug.
"Do you mind, brother? I would like to have a moment alone with her," He requested, though it was more of an order.
"Not at all. Happy Birthday, brother," Elijah replied, seeing the happy smile on his brother's face as he led Katherine away.
"Yes, Klaus is my brother," Elijah confirms, seeing the look of utter shock on Elena's face.
"I heard that, I'm still processing," She replies in surprise.
"Yes, I'm a little behind on the times, but I believe the term you're searching for is "O.M.G." He teases her a little, taking his cup of tea, loving the look on her face.
Lorilei gets out of her car and parks outside the local hospital in the next town over, needing to do something a little shady before she heads back to Mystic Falls to get Elijah back from the Salvatore brothers.
In Alaric's apartment, Katherine grows bored with spinning on the stool and gets up, goes to the cupboard, opens it to find some bourbon and takes a few swings before she hears someone outside. She puts the bottle on the breakfast island, hearing a familiar voice. "I don't think that this is a good idea," Andie argues with her fake boyfriend.
"Investigative journalist, we're investigating," Damon argues, and Katherine places the bottle down on the counter, running to the door. Anide looks at her boyfriend, who tells her to knock, and she complies, but there's no answer. Katherine tries to open the door, but she's stopped by something.
"Alaric, are you home? Andie — Star, Jenna's friend," She calls out, but there's still no reply. Katherine gives up trying to open the door and walks away, and Damon breaks the lock, opening the door to see Katherine standing there.
"Thank God," The Vampire doppelganger groans.
"Wow!" Andie marvels, looking at her and entering the apartment. "You were right. She looks exactly like Elena."
"Yep," Damon replies, trying to enter, but he's stopped and looks at his ex-obsession. "Thought you might be dead."
"Unfortunately not," Katherine replies.
Jenna opens the door to the Gilbert House, letting Stefan inside. "Hey, Jenna. Thank you so much for not going to the Grill," He tells her.
"Um, Stefan…" She says, but he doesn't let her finish.
"No, listen. I can explain," Stefan assures her, and she looks over behind him as Klaric steps up behind him. He looks around to see Klaric standing behind him, seeming smug.
"Hi, Stefan. How's it going?" The possessed man smirks at the young Vampire.
"There's a whole family of Originals?" Elena repeats, still in shock.
"My father was a wealthy landowner in a village in Eastern Europe. Our mother bore seven children," Elijah tells her, leaving a few things out as he gets up from his seat, steps in front of the fireplace, looking at himself in the mirror.
"So your parents were human?" She questions, getting up from her chair.
"Our whole family was. Our origin as Vampires is a very long story, Elena. Just know… We're the oldest Vampires in the world. We are the Original Family, and from us all, Vampires were created." The Noble Original tells her.
"Right, but Klaus is your brother. And you want him dead?" She questions him.
"I need some air. I'm still feeling a tad…dead. Come," Elijah replies, avoiding her question and heading outside, and she follows him.
"What are you doing here?" Katherine asks her old lover and his girlfriend.
"We are here to rescue you," Andie tells her, walking into the apartment.
"No, sweetie. We are here to see if she deserves to be rescued," Damon corrects his girlfriend.
"Right," She nods, looking around the place while the two Vampires chat.
"I figured you still might be kicking. Alari-Klaus was blending way too easily. Figured he probably had some coaching," He remarks and removes a phial of vervain from his pocket, showing Katherine.
"Is that…" Katherine asks him.
"Vervain? Your salvation?" The Salvatore teases a little.
"It's not going to undo anything," She reminds him.
"There's always a loophole. Did he tell you to stay in this apartment until he said it was okay to leave?" Damon questions her, but she can't seem to answer. "You can't say. Did he tell you to do absolutely everything he says until the end of time?"
"No," Katerina answers.
"There's your loophole. Drink this and prevent any further compulsion," The older Salvatore tells her, and she walks towards him, but he pulls it out of her reach.
"Give it to me," She demands.
"Answer one question first. You double-crossed us with Isobel, why?" The older Salvatore inquires, looking at her.
"I didn't think you could stand a chance against Klaus, so I was looking out for myself," Katherine confesses.
"And where did that get you?" Damon taunts her, basking in it a little, and the male Vampire tosses the phial at her. "Here." She catches it, taking the top off. "Be careful with that. If he finds out you have that, you're never getting out of here." She gulps the whole thing and coughs, feeling the burn from the vervain as it travels down her throat. "You owe me. And I will collect." He looks over at Andie as she finishes looking around. "Come on."
"Nice to meet you," Andie says as she closes the door behind her, leaving Katherine alone in the apartment.
Lorilei slams the hospital ward door as she walks up to the reception desk, and the blond receptionist looks up from her computer keyboard as she types away. "How can I help you?"
"I'm looking for my uncle…." Lorilei replies, looking at the name badge. "Katie."
Klaric stands in the Gilbert kitchen as he uses a big knife, chopping vegetables as Stefan stands stiffly near Jenna, who looks between them, still left in the dark. "You know. I find chopping… Calming. The feel of the blade in the hand, maybe…." Klaric says, looking at Jenna, who is entirely clueless.
"I'm still waiting for someone to tell me what the hell's going on," She demands, looking between the men.
"Well, would you like to tell her, Stefan, or should I?" He questions, looking at the young Vampire.
"Tell me what?" Jenna asks.
"Do you believe in Vampires, Jenna?" The possessed man questions, seeing the look of disbelief on her face. "No?" He laughs. "Well, who does, right? But believe it or not, they do have a place in our history. And as a history teacher, I find them fascinating." He looks at Stefan, who remains quiet.
"Why are we talking about this?" She asks him, feeling unnerved.
"Well, you've been angry with me for keeping secrets, and this is one of my secrets. I'm obsessed with Vampires," Klaric gives a fake cathartic sigh. 'There. I said it." He laughs and walks over to the stoves.
"Are you joking?" The strawberry blond asks, looking at her boyfriend.
"Not at all. How about you, Stefan?" He asks, looking over at the young Salvatore. "Are you a fan of Vampires?"
"In literature. Bram Stoker. It's dense, but I appreciate it," Stefan replies, looking extremely uncomfortable.
"Hmm. Did you know that Vampires are the oldest creatures of the night. Except for Werewolves, of course." Klaric adds.
"Werewolves. Werewolves. Now I know you're joking," Jenna scoffs.
"You know, I've read that there's an Aztec Curse on both species that keeps Werewolves slaves to the moon and Vampires bound by the sun. Isn't that right, Stefan? You know, they say these creatures would do anything to have this curse broken and that they wouldn't care who they had to kill to do it." He looks at Jenna, spooking her, and Stefan looks at him, readying to defend his girlfriend's aunt if need be.
Lorilei gets back into her car, driving back to Mystic Falls. When her phone rings, she looks down at the caller's I.D. and answers. "What do you want, Demon?" She asks, keeping her eyes on the road.
"Just wanted to talk. I went to your place, but there wasn't any answer, and I need a favour." Damon replies, and she scoffs.
"Yeah. It'll cost you." Lorilei reminds him.
"I need a locator spell for Elena," He requests, and she stops the car, making cars behind her honk.
"Klaus wouldn't be stupid enough to snatch her yet," The Witch argues. "No. She did something stupid. Didin't she. Like waking Elijah." She receives silence. "Sorry, Damon, but I won't let you touch him again. Bye." She hangs up and revs her engine, speeding back to Mystic Falls.
Back at the Lockwood estate, Elijah leads Elena outside into the garden, needing to walk around in the fresh air. "So as you've seen, nothing can kill an Original. Not sun, not fire, not even a werewolf bite. Only the wood from one tree. A tree my family made sure burned," Elijah informs her.
"That's where the white ash for the dagger comes from." Elena catches on.
"Yes. The Witches won't allow anything truly immortal to walk the earth. Every creature needs to have a weakness in order to maintain the balance." He explains.
"So the sun can't kill an Original. Why is Klaus so obsessed with breaking the Sun and Moon Curse?" She questions, making him smile at the inside joke.
"Right. The Curse of the Sun and the Moon. It's all so… Biblical-sounding, don't you think?" The Noble Original eludes to the truth.
"What's so funny?" The doppelganger questions, seeing the smile as he recalls his fond memory of his younger brother.
Klaus sat in his bedroom after his birthday celebration. A woman stood before him when Elijah walked inside with a scroll of parchment and stepped over to his younger brother; the woman walked away, leaving the brothers alone. "Look what I found. The Roman parchment," Elijah showed Klaus.
"I remember etching this scroll. Well, I was quite blistered from the drink," Klaus mused as he glanced at it.
"Your finest work remains your Aztec drawings," He complimented his brother.
"Not the African carvings? 'Cause I was quite proud of those," The younger brother joked.
"The Aztec. Who can resist a Shaman?" The Noble Original replied with a smile.
"Yes," Niklaus chuckled, making Elijah smile.
"I don't understand," Elena replies after listening. "So Klaus drew the Aztec sketches about the Curse?"
"Roman scrolls, Africal tribal etchings, and any other culture or continent we felt like planting it in." Elijah replies.
"But why?" She asks, still not following.
"Easiest way to discover the existence of a doppelganger or to get your hands on some long, lost Moonstone is to have every single member of two warring speices on the lookout." He explains.
"So it's not Aztec at all?" The dumb teen questions.
"The Curse of the Sun and the Moon…is fake. It doesn't exist," The Noble Original confesses, leaning in, loving the look of shock on her face and leaves her as he walks over the small wooden bridge to the other side of the pond.
"What?" Elena gapes in shock and follows him over the bridge.
Klaric, Jenna and Stefan sit at the dinner table, awkwardly eating the food the possessed man cooked. "Oh, I know this all sounds so crazy, but… Vampires are real. Would you care for some more wine?" Klaric asks, getting up to get another bottle of wine.
"Get out," Jenna demands.
"Excuse me?" He questions, looking at the strawberry blond in surprise.
"I don't know what it is you're trying to do or why you're saying these things, but…." She replies, standing firm.
"Jenna…" Klaric tries to tell her.
"I said get out!" Jenna snaps, and Stefan gets up from his seat.
"You heard her," Stefan backs her up.
"I'm afraid I don't want to," The possessed man argues.
"Fine, I'll go," Jenna replies, getting up, and Klaric catches the knife, pointing it at her.
"You're not going anywhere," Klaric argues, threatening her with the sharp knife. Stefan races at him, using his Vampire speed, pushing the Original against the wall, startling the strawberry blond as the young Salvatore puts the knife to his throat.
"Stefan!" Jenna gasps as she watches.
"Jenna, get out of here now!": Stefan orders her.
"You can't kill me, Stefan," Klaric reminds him.
"Watch me!" He retorts, digging the blade's tip a little further into his neck.
"Stefan!" She shouts again, not understanding what is happening in front of her.
"I may not have a Witch protecting me today, but if you kill this body, what's to stop me from choosing Jenna as my next one?" Klaric warns the young Vampire.
"Jenna, go," Stefan tells her again.
"But you're… you…." Jenna stutters in shock, and Stefan turns around, looking at her, his face changing, scaring her.
"I said go!" He shouts, and she runs out of the house, leaving the men alone.
"Kill me. Just remind Elena how easy it will be for me to get my revenge if she tries to stop me from breaking this curse." Klaric warns him, and Stefan pulls away, making the Original smirk, but the young Salvatore punches him across the face, making him fall to the floor, and he kicks the possessed man in the stomach before throwing the knife on the floor and leaves to find Jenna.
"Klaus and I faked the Sun and Moon Curse dating back over a thousand years." Elijah tells her as they walk across the Lockwood gardens.
"But if there's no curse…." Elena reasons, missing half the things he's already said.
"There's a curse. Just not that one. The real one's much worse. It's a curse placed on Klaus," He explains as Elena's phone vibrates in his pocket.
"What are you talking about?" She asks him.
"Klaus has been trying to break it for the last thousand years. You are his only hope," The Noble Original tells her, stopping his walking, looking at her, growing fed up with the phone in his pocket.
"What is this curse?" The doppelganger questions, and he grows tired and fishes out her phone.
"Your phone will not stop its incessant buzzing. Answer it, please." Elijah tells her, and she answers it, the Original listening in on the conversation, hearing Stefan on the other end.
"Stefan… What's wrong? No. No, no. no, no. " Okay, I'll be right there," Elena says, hanging up and looking at the Noble Original. "Klaus went after Jenna. I have to go to her."
"I'm afraid that wasn't part of today's arrangement," He reminds her.
"She's my family, Elijah. I have to. I'll be back. You have my word," She argues her case passionately.
"That doesn't mean anything to me until you live up to it," Elijah tells her, letting her leave.
"Thank you," Elena smiles and runs to her car as he watches her, pulling into a memory of him and Katerina.
Katherine ran in the garden with Elijah running behind her, pretending to try and catch her, both seeming to be enjoying themselves. "You have to chase me!" She giggled as she ran, but he stopped, having no intention of catching her. "You're meant to catch me."
"But if I catch you, the game will be over," Elijah argued, both stopping.
"Thank you for entertaining me," She replied.
"You seemed lonely inside, so I took pity on you," He joked, and she sat on the stone bench.
"Klaus promised to spend the day with me, but he never returned home from the night." The doppelganger informed him, seeming worried.
"Yes, Klaus does not live by any rules but his own," The Noble Original assured her.
"He is a very charming man. Hard for anyone to resist, I suppose," Katherine responded, looking at him.
"And yet…" Elijah muttered.
"I know not why he courts me. He seems to not care about me at all," The doppelganger argued.
"Many a union has been built on much less," He argued back, trying to keep her in the castle for his brother's sake.
"Is it wrong to want more?" Katerina questioned, drawing the Original into her web as he sat beside her.
"Did you have more with Trevor?" Elijah asked the young woman.
"Trevor believes that he loves me, but true love is not real unless it's returned. Do you agree?" She asked him.
"I do not believe in love, Katerina," The Noble Original replied, though it felt like a lie.
"That is too sad for me to accept, my Lord. Life is too cruel. If we cease to believe in love, why would we want to live?" The doppelganger questioned, and Klaus walked over, the front of his white shirt splattered with blood.
"What do I interrupt?" Klaus queried as he walked over to his brother and the doppelganger.
"Long night?" Elijah asked his younger brother, seeing the blood as they both got up from the stone bench.
"What has happened?" Katherine gasped, looking at his appearance.
"The wrong villager picked a fight at the tavern," Klaus assured her, steering her away from his brother. Klaus looked at Elijah with a smile as he walked away though Katherine looked back at him too.
Elijah blinks as he looks over the pond on the Lockwood estate and heads back to the house, needing to make a phone call. Once inside, he punches in the number of the most loyal person he knows, and they answer right away. "Hello, Carol. Still need to talk about my shitty parents?" Lorilei responds, making the Original chuckle.
"I hope you haven't been causing too much trouble in my absence," Elijah replies, hearing the gasp and the screeching of tires.
"You are so dead again if you don't tell me where you are right now." She warns him, though he can hear her voice waver a little as if stopping herself from crying.
"I'm at the Lockwood house," He tells her, knowing she already knows, seeing as she called him Carol, but he lets it go due to how happy she is to know he's okay.
"I'll be there in a few minutes. If you aren't there when I get there. I'm going to hunt you down and smack you harder than I plan to." The McKnight threatens him.
"Of course. I expect a lecture too," The Noble Original jokes.
"Too right," Lorilei snaps and hangs up on him.
Elena rushes to the Salvatore house, seeing her aunt safe as she sits in the library with Stefan close to tears. "Oh, Jenna, thank God," Elena sighs in relief, trying to hug her, but Jenna pulls back.
No," Jenna snaps, wanting the truth.
"I never meant for any of this to happen," She assures her aunt.
"When I was little, your mum used to tell me bedtime stories. Stories about Vampires. I never thought that what she said could be true," The strawberry blond sniffles, thinking of her dead sister.
"It is true, Jenna. I should have told you. I thought that if you didn't know, you'd be safe," Elena argues, sitting down next to Jenna, though giving her some space. "But then things got so out of control and everything I had done to keep you out of it, it just blew up in my face."
"Who else knows? Jeremy?" Jenna asks her, and Elena nods. "John?"
"We were just trying to protect you," The doppelganger reasons.
"Protect me"? She repeats, looking at her niece.
"I'm so sorry. I will tell you everything," Elena promises her.
"No, Elena… I am the one who's supposed to be protecting you and Jeremy." Jenna cries, feeling overwhelmed and lost in this new world she's been thrown into.
"I know, but there's nothing that you could have done. There's so much more to it…." She warns her aunt.
"No, this is- this is so… I don't know how… it's…" The strawberry blond breaks down in tears, and Elena hugs her aunt, knowing she needs comfort.
"I know, hey," Elena comforts her as Stefan walks out, letting them have a moment alone, though he stands outside the room.
"Why didn't you tell me?! I'm scared," Jenna cries, and Elena cradles her crying aunt, trying to settle her down so they can talk.
"I know. I know. I know, hey. Hey. I'm sorry. Jenna. i am so, so sorry." She mumbles as Stefan stands in the corridor, listening to them, feeling guilty, tears in his eyes, hating having brought everyone into this mess.
Lorilei runs to the side of the Lockwood house; seeing Elijah standing there waiting for her, she jumps into him, wrapping her arms around his neck as he slowly hugs her around her waist. "I missed you," She whispers, knowing he can hear her.
"I missed you, too," He replies, and she pulls back, standing on the ground, and Lorilei slaps him across the face hard.
"You absolute idiot!" Lorilei snaps at him, seeing the look of surprise on his face. "The Mega Bitch was one thing! But another doppelbitch is another thing!" She storms into the house with Elijah following her. "I need a drink. You've driven me to drink!"
Elena closes the door to the library, seeing Stefan waiting for her, "Is she gonna be okay?" He asks his girlfriend.
"She's in shock. I tried to tell her as much as I could, but I barely scratched the surface." Elena replies.
"I'm so sorry, Elena. I hate this," Stefan tells her.
"It's not your fault, Stefan. It's mine. Anyway… I have to go back to Elijah," She tells him, walking past her boyfriend.
"Wait, what? No. no!" He argues, stopping her.
"Stefan, I promised him that I would return. I can't break that promise," The doppelganger replies calmly, and he looks at her.
"Oh," The young Salvatore sighs, nodding, agreeing.
"I'll be okay," Elena assures him and walks off, heading for the front door when Damon approaches her, and Andie follows her boyfriend.
"Where do you think you're going?" Damon demands, speeding in front of her.
"Back to Elijah," She answers.
"No," He tells her.
"Get out of my way, Dam…." The doppelganger argues, trying to move around him, but he grabs her arm, stopping her.
"If you so much as try and take a step out of this house…." Damon threatens her.
"Damon, easy," Andie tries to stop him from hurting the teen.
"Stay out of this, Andie," He snaps at her.
"Let her go," Stefan steps in to stop his brother.
"Are you kidding me? We just got her back," Damon argues, and Stefan grabs his arm, stopping him.
"You heard me. I said let her go," The younger brother says, lowering his voice, showing how serious he is about this.
"That's twice today you've stood in my way. I wouldn't try a third," The older Salvatore warns him, looking him dead in the eye, but Elena still leaves, heading back to the Lockwood estate.
Katherine dances to the loud music, drinking from the bottle of bourbon, trying to enjoy herself a little while she is held hostage in the apartment. She suddenly hears the sound of keys jingling, and the door opens; she speeds to the couch, sitting there silently as Klaric walks inside. "You mind turning that down?" He requests, and she turns it down.
"Why so grumpy?" Katherine asks him.
"Well, this body has outlived its usefulness,' Klaric replies, pointing to the body he is currently occupying.
"Do you want a drink?" She asks, standing to his feet.
"No, Katerina. I don't want a drink," He refuses, frustrated with the beating he received from Stefan earlier.
"Come on. It might loosen you up," Katerina offers, holding out the bottle, and he snatches it out of her hand, throwing it against the wall, making his jump.
"What I want is for you to sit down and shut up," Klaric compels her, and she does with a bit of hesitation, which he catches, and finally, Maddox arrives. "Maddox, what took you so long?"
"You've got a lot of luggage," Maddox replies as two men enter the apartment with mountains of luggage, and a girl walks in.
"Greta. Finally," The Original greets her, walking over.
"Hello, love. Nice body. You ready to get out of it?" She asks, and two more men arrive with a giant box; Katherine watches them from the couch, growing evermore nervous.
Elena makes it back to the Lockwood mansion, finding Elijah inside waiting for her and, surprisingly, Lorilei, who sits in one of the armchairs, scowling at the Noble Original, having chewed him out excessively. "Welcome back," Elijah greets the doppelganger.
"Tell me. What is Klaus' curse?" Elena demands, taking off her jacket, and Lorilei rolls her eyes, taking a big drink of her scotch. "Please." She sits down near Lorilei, who looks unhappy about it.
"My family was quite close, but Klaus and my father did not get on too well. When we became Vampires, we discovered the truth. Klaus was not my father's son. My mother had been unfaithful many years before. This was her darkest secret. Klaus is from a different bloodline. Of course, when my father discovered this, he hunted down and he killed my mother's lover and his entire family. Not realising, of course, that he was igniting a war between species that rages until this day," He explains.
"A war between the species?" She repeats, making the McKnight Witch scoff.
"God," Lorilei mutters, earning a stern look from Elijah. "The Vampires… and the Werewolves."
"So Klaus' real father was from a Werewolf bloodline? What does that make Klaus? A Werewolf? Or a Vampire?" Elena questions, looking lost.
"He's both. A Hybrid would be deadlier than any Werewolf or Vampire. Nature would not stand for such an imbalance of power," Elijah explains and sees Lorilei scowl. "Therefore, the Witches, the servants of nature, saw to it that my brother's Werewolf side would become dormant.
"That's the curse that Klaus wants to break?" Elena repeats again.
"God, your thick. Of course, that's the curse…." Lorilei sneers, growing annoyed at the doppelganger.
"Lorilei, please," Elijah warns her, and she slouches in her chair. "He wants to trigger that part of him that's a Werewolf. If allowed Klaus would sire his own bloodline. He'd build his own race. Endangering not just Vampires, but everyone."
"But you helped him," Elena argues, getting up and stepping towards him.
"I helped him because I loved him. That's changed, now he must die," He replies, but Lorilei knows it is all a lie really; he'd do anything for his family.
"We have the dagger now. We can stop him," The doppelganger suggests, seeming pleased with herself.
"You are stupid. Lorilei snaps, ignoring the stern look from Elijah, and gets up from her chair. "When a Werewolf is wounded by silver, it heals. And Original can't be killed by anything but white oak ash on a silver dagger. So you see the problem. The dagger is completely useless against Klaus." She explains, making herself another drink.
"What, are you saying that Klaus can't be killed?" Elena questions.
"There's one way to kill any supernatural species… at the hands of the servants of nature themselves." Elijah adds.
"A Witch if they can channel that much power. But it would kill them," She replies.
"The curse must be broken during the full moon. When Klaus is in transition. That's when he'll be at his most vulnerable. A Witch with enough power… can kill Klaus." He clarifies, and she catches on.
"What if I told you that I knew a Witch that could channel that much power?" Elena offers her friend to the Original.
"Then I would tell you there's one more thing that you should know." Elijah tells her.
Elijah walked into his shared study as Klaus stood at the fireplace, pondering what would happen in the next few days and his brother's growing feelings for Katerina. "The full moon is tomorrow, brother. After all these centuries, it is finally time," Klaus informed his brother, seeming happy as he looked into the flames.
"I have been to see the Witches. They believe they may have found a way to spare the doppelganger," Elijah announced, looking at his younger brother.
"What does it matter if she lives or not? She's a means to an end, that is all," He argued, growing frustrated with the Noble Original's infatuation with the current doppelganger.
"What, she should die for your gain?" The older brother retorted.
"She is human. Her life means nothing," Klaus reminded him, moving towards the fireplace.
"I beg you to consider this," Elijah pleaded, making the younger brother push off the wall.
"Are you so foolish as to care for her?" He questioned him, strolling toward him.
"Of course not," The Noble Original lied, avoiding eye contact as Klaus stepped before him.
"Love is a Vampire's greatest weakness, and we are not weak, Elijah. We do not feel, and we do not care," Klaus replied, keeping a stern eye on his older brother.
"We did once," Elijah retorted, looking his younger brother in the eye.
"Too many lifetimes ago to matter. Tell the Witches not to bother. The sacrifice will happen as planned." He commanded and walked out of the room.
"You found a way to save the life of the doppelgner?" Elena questions after listening to more of the story.
"Yes, Elena. I did. But unfortunately, Katerina took matters into her own hands first. I believe you already know how that played out," Elijah tells her and shares a look with Lorilei, who nods, both of them having a plan in place.
"You cared about her, didn't you?" She asks him, giving him sad-looking eyes.
"It's a common mistake, I'm told. And it's one I won't make again," The Noble Original assures her and walks off, with Lorilei giving the doppelganger the stink eye.
Damon sits in the library with Andie, not really listening to her as she keeps talking. "You don't have to be so mad at your brother. You know, he's worried about Elena, and…" Andie tries soothing him, giving him a drink.
"Just go, please…." Damon whines, wanting her to leave him alone, but she won't.
"I know you're worried about her, too," She adds.
"Andie. Go." He orders her.
"Okay," She complies and walks off as Stefan walks in.
"Tired of your little play thing already?" Stefan questions, looking at his sulking older brother.
"Don't start with me, Stefan. She's just my distraction," Damon reminds him.
"She's a person. You're victimising her," He argues, hating how his brother treats humans.
"You should be thankful she's here. She keeps me from going for what I really want," The older Salvatore tells him, taunting his brother.
"You're right. Thank you for being in love with my girlfriend," Stefan replies, and Damon slams his drink down on the table and stands to his feet.
"And there it is," He snaps.
"There it is. You know, you can be in love with Elena all you want… If it means that you'll protect her. But I have the one thing that you never will," The younger brother replies, the brothers squaring up with each other.
"Oh yeah? What's that?" Damon inquires.
"Her respect," Stefan spits and the older Salvatore snaps, punching him so hard that the younger Salvatore flies into the stack of shelves, breaking it into pieces. Stefan falls to the floor and gets up, rushing over at Damon, both holding and trying to hurt each other, grunting and groaning when Elena runs into the room, seeing the brothers fighting. Elijah and Lorilei enter the space behind the doppelganger, both not impressed with what they see.
"Stop!" Elena shouts, making the Salvatore brothers stop their assault on each other and turn to see the new arrivals. Elijah looks at the brothers, remembering his past with his beloved younger brother.
Elijah sat in one of the many rooms of the castle reading a book when Klaus stormed into the room after Katerina's escape. "What have you done?" Klaus demanded, standing in front of his brother.
"I don't understand," Elijah replied, looking up from the pages.
"Katerina has gone. She has fled," He announced.
"No," The Noble Original muttered.
"What did you tell her?' The Original Hybrid demanded.
"I told her nothing," Elijah promised, and in a fit of rage, Klaus grabbed him by the shirt and pulled him up, pushing him against the wall, his face changing in his anger.
"Do not lie to me!" Klaus shouted at him.
"I will find her. You have my word," The Noble Original vowed.
"If you do not. I give you my word you will be dead," The younger brother returned the favour.
Stefan and Damon stop their fight and see Elena with Elijah and Lorilei in shock. "Now you've invited them in?" Damon snaps, looking at the Original and McKnight Witch.
"Elijah and I have renewed the terms of our deal," Elena explains.
"Really?" He questions, looking between them.
"The two of you will come to no harm at my hands or Lorilei's. I only ask for one thing in return." Elijah announces, stepping towards the brothers.
"What?" The older Salvatore asks.
"An apology. For both Lorilei and I," He requests, getting looks from both Salvatores.
"A what?" Damon quips, and Stefan looks at his brother and steps toward the Original.
"I'm sorry for the part that I played in your death. I was protecting Elena. I will always protect Elena," Stefan declares, looking at his lovely girlfriend.
"I understand," Elijah replies.
"I think I'm going to be sick," Lorilei mutters, earning a look from the Vampires, and Elena looks at Damon, wanting him to apologise to the Original and Lorilei.
"Sacrifice is going to happen, Damon. Bonnie will be able to kill Klaus without hurting herself and Elijah and Lorilei know how to save my life. I told you I'd find another way. And.I did." Elena tells him.
"Is that true?" Damon asks, looking at them.
"Unfortunately, it is," Lorilei answers and Damon looks back at Elena.
"And you're trusting them?" He asks her.
"I am," Elena answers.
"You can all go to hell," The older Salvatore replies and sulks out of the room, and Stefan looks at Elijah.
"We'll see you there," Lorilei exclaims, watching him leave.
"He's angry with me right now. But he'll come around," Stefan assures the Original.
"Perhaps," Elijah replies, not believing that will be the case and shares a look with Lorilei, who nods.
Damon enters his room and sees Andie walking out of the bathroom in her lingerie, trying to seduce him. "I thought I told you to leave?" Damon sighs, looking at her, still angry from what happened downstairs.
"You didn't compel me. I want to be here. Just let me be here," Andie tells him, walking towards him, but it's a bad idea as he rushes towards her, holding her by her throat.
"I'm upset. And you know what happens when I'm upset. You have to leave," The Vampire warns her, scaring her a little.
"No. You need to know that somebody cares about you. I care about you, Damon," She pleads with him, and he bites her in rage, making her scream, and the older Salvatore throws her to the floor in front of the fireplace. Andie cries in pain, and he kneels next to her, grabbing her face.
"Hey. Hey. Look at me," Damon tells her. "Get out of here before I kill you. Just go. Go, Now!" He compels her, and she complies, grabbing her clothes and looking back at him before leaving him to his dark thoughts.
At Alaric's apartment, Maddox and Greta perform the spell to return Klaus to his original body, candles around them, and Klaric stands beside the large box. Katherine watches them as the chanting stop and the candles flare; the Witches look at Alaric as he takes a large breath and looks up at Katherine. "Elena?" Alaric questions before collapsing onto the floor. Maddox opens the box, letting Klaus step out, looking at the unconscious history teacher.
"Now that's more like it," Klaus smiles, glad to be back in his own body.
