The Sun Also Rises

Caroline tries to hold the old iron gate as Matt points the rifle at the wolf as it tries to break through the gate. "Caroline, let me help!" Matt snaps at his girlfriend.

"Get back, I got it!" Caroline yells back, trying to secure the gate with the rusted chain.

"Caroline, the door's not going to hold," He warns her.

"Come on! Tyler, please!" She begs with the wolf, but the blond quarterback has enough and shoots Tyler several times. "Matt! No, hey, no! It's Tyler!"

"He's trying to kill us!" Matt yells at her.

"Wait!" Caroline shouts, seeing the wolf lying on the ground. "He's wounded."

"Caroline, stay back," He warns her.

"We can go around him," She suggests, moving the chain from the gate.

"Are you nuts?" The blond quarterback questions, looking at her offered hand.

"You're not going to shoot him again, okay? Matt, take my hand," The blond Vampire tells him, and he holds the gun toward Tyler.

"I got it," Matt tells her.

"Matt, take my hand," Caroline tells him again, and he takes her hand as she rushes outside the cellar using her Vampire speed.

Meanwhile, at Alaric's apartment, Katherine and Damon look at his Werewolf bite, seeing the grey skin around the wound. "So that's what a Werewolf bite looks like," Katherine muses.

"Yep," Damon answers, seeing it with his ex-lover Rose.

"It's not that bad," She remarks.

"Will be," He mutters and gets to his feet, needing to find another way to stop the ritual.

"So that's it? You're just… Going to die?" The Vampire doppelganger questions.

"Well, that depends. You know anything about a cure?" The older Salvatore asks her, but she doesn't have an answer. "Me, either." He takes his leather jacket and puts it on to hide the bite mark.

"145 years and no last goodbye?" Katherine asks him as he walks to the door.

"You don't get a goodbye," Damon replies, and she looks at him, stepping in front of him.

"No. Don't leave mad," The Vampire doppelganger tells him.

"Us ending up on good terms isn't exactly on my bucket list, Katherine," He replies.

"Klaus made me call Jenna to lure her out. There was nothing that I could do. I didn't have a choice," Katerina reasons, trying to explain herself.

"That's why I gave you the vervain. So you had a choice," The older Salvatore spits at her.

"It was her or me. I chose her," She argues.

"I helped you. You owed me. Now when Klaus dies, you're going to walk out of here without a scratch, and Elena's aunt dies. Somehow you're the only one that wins. How'd that happen?" Damon argues back, growing annoyed at his ex-lover.

"I didn't let love get in the way," Katherine replies, looking him in the eyes.

"Enjoy eternity alone, Katherine," He snaps.

"What are you going to do?" She asks him.

"I'm going to offer myself as a replacement to Klaus," The older Salvatore suggests.

"He won't take you. He saw your bite, he said that your blood is impure. I'm sorry, Damon. But Jenna's dead, there's nothing you can do about it." Katerina tells him, and he leaves her alone in the apartment.

At the same time, at Steven's Quarry, Elena and Jenna sit on the ground, the doppelganger trying to comfort her aunt. "Oh, my head. What's wrong with me?" Jenna asks, holding her pounding head.

"Do you remember what happened?" Elena asks her, unaware of what is happening near her.

"You called me. You were so scared," The strawberry blond replies and scoffs. "Oh ah, I should have realised that it wasn't you. The second I walked out of my house, someone grabbed me. A Vampire." Hidden within the trees, people watch the events unfold in the quarry.

"Klaus. It was Klaus," The doppelganger concludes.

"He made me drink his blood. And I don't…" The strawberry blond replies.

"...I don't remember anything after that," Luka says from within the trees, using a spell on the puppet that Lorilei made to use on her uncle down in the quarry with Elena disguised as Jenna.

"Where are we? What happened?" Jenna questions, looking around.

"We're at the quarry. He brought us here," Elena informs her aunt.

"Why don't I remember anything?" Luka asks, playing into the doppelganger.

"Jenna, do you remember… When I told you how someone becomes a Vampire?" The brunette asks her, seeing the shock overcome the woman.

"Yeah, if you die with Vampire blood in your system, it's… Oh, god. He killed me," Jenna panics for real, the real emotion topping over the manipulation.

"Jenna, listen to me. Listen to me, everything's going to be okay. I'm going to get you out of here," Elena promises her.

"I'm a Vampire?" The strawberry blond says in shock when Greta interrupts their little moment.

"And I bet you're hungry," Greta smirks, looking at them and Elena comes up with a stupid idea; she tries to go for a rock on the ground and tries to rush over, but the Witch sees it, throwing the doppelganger away with her magic and creates a circle of fire around the brunette. "Don't bother trying to get through. I spelled the circle. You're trapped. No matter what you do."

"Greta… Please, just-just let her go," Elena pleads with her.

"Klaus chose her," She replies, devoted to the Hybrid, cuts her wrist with the rock and moves her bleeding wrist towards Jenna. "Drink it."

"Jenna, don't!" Elena cries out as she watches her aunt struggle with the urge to drink the blood and complete the transition.

"I can't," Jenna mutters, feeling the overwhelming bloodlust.

"Let her go. Hey!" She yells, but the strawberry blond can't stop herself and bites into Greta's wrist. "No!"

"That's enough," Greta says, cutting the new Vampire off, pulling her wrist away.

"It's going to be okay," Elena promises, and the Witch creates another circle of fire around the strawberry blond. "Look at me. Hey, look at me." Jenna looks at the brunette, her face changing, showing Vampire features. "It's gonna be okay. It's gonna be okay."

In the basement of the old Witch's house, Jeremy and Bonnie read through some grimoires trying to find a way to save Elena from becoming a Vampire. "This is useless. All these grimoires. There has to be something in here to keep Elena from becoming a Vampire." Jeremy complains, closing another book.

"And we'll keep looking. Until the last minute," Bonnie assures her, and outside, Elijah, Stefan, and Alaric arrive at the house.

"The sacrifice is completed in stages as the full moon sets. First the Werewolf is killed, then the Vampire. Finally the doppelganger. Once Elena dies, the curse will be broken. Klaus will become a Hybrid," Elijah explains, and he looks over to see Lorilei strutting towards them, though she seems uncomfortable as she looks at the old abandoned house with a look in her eyes.

"So when do we attack?" Alaric asks, looking at the Original.

"Elena's death will activate his dormant Werewolf side. He'll be vulnerable during the transformation. That's when baby Bennet comes in," Lorilei explains, not looking up from her phone, trying to distract herself from the dreaded feelings surfacing inside her being near the Nature Witches' last resting place.

"And you're sure Bonnie will survive this?" Stefan asks her, looking at the more experienced Witch.

"If she does the job right she can deliver him to the brink of death and Elijah will finish the job himself." She adds, and Stefan's phone rings; he looks at it, sees it's his brother and answers.

"Damon," Stefan answers.

"You're not going to like what I'm about to say," Damon tells him.

"Cut to the chase. Is the sacrifice happening or not?" The younger brother asks him as time is ticking.

"It's happening. I tried to stop it, but it got… Complicated," The older Salvatore replies.

"We're sticking with the original plan. We're meeting Bonnie right now," Stefan tells him.

"He's got Jenna, Stefan," Damon informs his brother.

"What?" He mutters.

"He got Katherine to lure her out of the house," The older Salvatore explains, and Stefan looks back at Alaric, who catches it.

"What is it? What's wrong?" Alaric asks him.

"He's going to use her as the Vampire in the ritual," Damon tells him.

"Oh, my god," Stefan mutters, and Lorilei looks at her phone, sneakily texting Luka about what is happening. Elijah stands beside her, seeing her texting the young Warlock, and Lorilei shows him the text she got from him.

"This is good. We should tell them," The Original tells her, and she shakes her head.

"Not a chance," Lorilei scoffs and puts her phone back in her pocket.

Meanwhile, back at the quarry, Elena watches her aunt in the other fiery circle as she sits on the ground, trying to process what is happening. "How are you feeling?" Elena asks her.

"I feel like myself… Only not. Everything is brighter. The fire is hotter. Part of me is terrified, but there's another part of me that doesn't want to feel anything." Jenna explains, looking close to tears.

"Vampires can turn off the part that's human. That's the part that hurts," The brunette explains, looking at her aunt, feeling tremendously guilty.

"I'm gonna die, aren't I?" The strawberry blond mutters.

"No! Jenna, I'm not going to let that happen. I don't care what I have to do," Elena vows, and they hear someone screaming, getting closer.

"Who's that?" Jenna asks, seeing Greta dragging someone towards them.

"That must be the Werewolf," She replies as Greta throws, writhing Jules on the ground.

"What's happening to me?" Jules groans in pain.

"I cast a spell to slow down your transformation. Your insides are trying to tear themselves free," Greta tells her, creating another circle of fire around the Werewolf.

"Greta, Witches are supposed to maintain the balance in nature. It's your duty to them to keep this curse sealed," Elena argues, not understanding anything she's saying.

"God she's stupid," Maddox scoffs as he sits beside Luka in hiding as they watch the events unfold.

"My duty is to Klaus! The new order," Greta tells her as the Hybrid arrives.

"Glad to know I still have a dance partner," Klaus muses, looking at her, then turns to the other women in the fiery circles. "Hello, my lovelies. Are we ready?"

"Lorilei would like him," Luka jokes, looking at the older Warlock, who smirks.

"Definitely," Maddox agrees.

Caroline and Matt rush into the Lockwood mansion to escape the Werewolf chasing them. Caroline slams the front doors closed, leaning against them as Matt looks through the glass to see if he can spot the wolf. "Do you see anything?" Caroline asks him.

"We're not safe here. If that thing wants in, it's getting in," Matt replies, getting his gun ready.

"How did you even know what I was? I compelled you to forget!" She questions, looking at her boyfriend.

"I was on vervain. I faked forgetting so I could spy on you. It was your mom's idea," The blond quarterback explains.

"Wait, my mom knows?! You told her. Well, what'd she say?" The blond Vampire asks him, looking at him scared.

"Your mom hates Vampires. She grew up hating Vampires. She'll probably always hate Vampires," Matt tells her, not mincing his words.

"Well, what about you?" Caroline asks him, seeing where their relationship stands.

"What about me?" He repeats.

"Where does this leave us?" She asks him.

"Stuck in this house. Trying not to get mauled to death by our friend," The human tells her, and she looks at him, distraught.

"I heard ya," Damon groans as he stumbles down the hallway towards his front door as someone is persistently knocking. He suddenly comes over dizzy, having to steady himself against the wall for a second before answering the door and finding John. "Great. I was just thinking about getting a bite to eat."

"Elena hasn't returned any of my calls for days. I need to see her," John tells him and steps around the older Salvatore, walking into the house.

"Well, you're a day late and a daughter short, John," The snarky Salvatore replies.

"What are you talking about?" The Vampire hunter snaps.

"Klaus has her. Sacrifice goes down tonight," Damon explains.

"How could you let that happen? You were supposed to keep her safe. Wasn't that the sum total of your plan, to keep her safe?" John inquires, looking at the Vampire.

"She is safe. I fed her my blood," The Vampire informs him, watching the man's face drop.

"You what?!" The human exclaims.

"When Klaus kills Elena in the sacrifice, she will come back to life. Granted, as the thing you hate most in the world, but no one really cares what you think," The older Salvatore replies, and overcome with anger, John tries to punch him, but Damon pushes him against the wall, stopping his sloppy attack. "You do not want to mess with me right now."

"You ruined her life. You know that, right?" John tells him.

"I know, John. I took her choice, destroyed her future. Trust me, I get it. It actually gets worse," Damon informs him.

"How could it possibly get any worse?" The human asks him, and the Vampire informs him of the worse news.

Klaus stands with Greta at the stone altar and gives her the Moonstone. "I spent 500 years looking for this. I hate to part with it," Klaus muses as he looks at the little white stone in his hand, feeling almost nostalgic.

"The moon has passed its apex. Remember everything you need to do?" Greta asks him, smiling.

"I remember," He assures her, remembering as if it were yesterday and watches as the Witch throws the Moonstone in the bowl, destroying it finally. The three women in separate circles of fire watch Jules in severe pain from her slow transformation, and she looks at the doppelganger.

"Everything I did… I was just trying to help Tyler," Jules groans through the pain.

"Are you Jules?" Elena asks her a stupid question.

"I didn't want him to be alone!" She cries, and Klaus looks over at the Werewolf.

"Shall we?" Klaus questions, and the circle of fire around her disappears, and her transformation begins; so she tries to run, but he catches her and pushes her onto the ground with one hand. Klaus rips Jules' heart out with no remorse as Jenna and Elena watch in shock.

Jeremy and Bonnie are still reading the grimoires, trying to find a way to save Elena from possibly becoming a Vampire. "Which one are you reading?" Bonnie asks him.

"Emily Bennett's. She has a section on spells she did for my ancestor Jonathan Gilbert." Jeremy explains

"Yeah, I think she had a thing for him," She jokes, and he looks up at her with a smile.

"There's something on a resuscitative spell she was working on," He tells her.

"I saw that, too. She just didn't explain what it did, exactly," The Witch replies, showing her inexperience as she looms over his shoulder, looking at the book.

"Maybe Jonathan wrote about it in his journals. You know, I can have Stefan bring them," The youngest Gilbert suggests, and they hear someone coming down the stairs of the old Witch's house into the basement.

"Someone's here," Bonnie announces, and they see Alaric coming down the last steps.

"Hey, what are you doing here?" Jeremy asks, seeing the history teacher.

"Elijah, Lorilei and Stefan are upstairs," Alaric informs them, and he looks at the Witch. "You mind if I have a second with Jeremy?"

"Sure, yeah. Of course," Bonnie complies and walks away, leaving the two men alone.

"What's the matter?" He asks his aunt's boyfriend.

"Jeremy… Something's happened to Jenna," The history teacher informs him as Bonnie comes outside to see the Original with his ward and Elena's boyfriend waiting for her.

"Why did he take Jenna?" Bonnie demands, looking at them.

"A punishment for meddling," Elijah explains.

"I'd do the same thing," Lorilei mutters and looks at her phone, waiting for a text from Luka.

"Klaus was going to use Tyler and Caroline but Damon rescued them," Stefan explains.

"Then we need to go. Now. Before Jenna's been sacrificed. I can kill Klaus myself," Bonnie suggests, pretty sure of herself.

"Bonnie… If you use that much power, you'll be dead. We've already been through this. It's not an option," Stefan warns her.

"Neither is letting Jenna die," She reasons.

"Well, Stefan would agree with you," Elijah tells her.

"We're going to offer another Vampire. One that he'll want more. Me," Stefan tells her.

"Stupid. Morons. Imbeciles." Lorilei mutters as she texts on her phone; she looks up and sees everyone looking at her. "Sorry, did I say that outloud?"

Klaus holds Jules' heart above the stone bowl at the altar, the blood pouring into the bowl. "Tell me it's working," Klaus demands, his hope on a string.

"It's working," Greta tells him with a smile, seeing the blood bubbling in the bowl and the remaining women watching them as they quietly talk to each other.

"What should I say?" Luka freaks out, looking at Maddox for help, who takes the puppet, coming up with an idea.

"The day that the lawyers called to tell me that I was going to become your guardian, you know what my first thought was? Isn't there someone else who can do this?" Jenna confesses, making Elena's heart sink a little.

"Jenna, there was no one else who could have gotten me and Jeremy through all of that," Elena assures her.

"It's just the thought that I almost passed up taking care of you," She replies, looking down at the dirt.

"But you didn't. You put your entire life on hold to help us," The brunette argues, grateful for her aunt.

"Look around, Elena. I failed you," The strawberry blond snaps back, gesturing to the events unfolding around them.

"You didn't. I failed you. I'm so sorry. Listen. Being a Vampire, it intensifies your guilt. But it also makes you stronger and faster. You can fight back. I'm gonna get through this. I'll be okay. I need you to believe that. Promise me, when you get the chance… Run." Elena warns her, not wanting to lose her aunt, and she nods, though she has other ideas.

Caroline sits on the couch at the Lockwood house as Matt looks through the window, trying to spot the Werewolf hunting them. "You don't think I killed him, do you?" He questions the blond Vampire.

"No. No. It takes a lot more than wooden bullets to kill a Werewolf. He's still out there somewhere. Do you think my mom wants to kill me?" She inquires with hope in her eyes.

"I don't think your mom knows what to do with you," Matt tells her.

"Yeah, well, I don't really know what to do with me, either," Caroline mumbles, nervously fidgeting with her hands. The blond quarterback looks at his girlfriend, still seeing the same Caroline, but they hear a noise from outside before he can say anything to assure her.

"What is it?" He questions, looking through the window.

"Wait. Don't. Don't shoot," Caroline warns him, rushing to the doors.

"What the hell are you doing?" The blond quarterback asks her, but she ignores him, looking through the doors to see Tyler lying on the porch naked.

"Give me your jacket," The blond Vampire orders him, holding out her hand for the piece of clothing.

"What?" Matt questions, looking at her funny as the blond Vampire kneels beside their naked friend.

"Your jacket, take it off," Caroline orders him again, and he quickly complies, taking off his jacket, and she uses it to cover Tyler, stroking his hair to comfort him. Matt watches them, unsure of their relationship, and Tyler opens his eyes, looking at the blond Vampire.

"Caroline?" Tyler questions, looking at her as he still feels groggy from the pain and the pain.

Elijah and Stefan stand outside the old Witch's house; Lorilei steps away, not wanting to be so close. "Lorilei did a locator spell. They're at Steven's quarry," Elijah announces, looking at her and seeing how uncomfortable the McKnight Witch is about being there.

"I'll head over there first and you'll follow with Bonnie when it's time," Stefan tells the Original.

"Just as the moon hits its final phase," Lorilei says, not moving from her spot. "She needs to stay hidden until then. He can't know that she's alive."

"You're very honourable," Elijah comments, looking at the younger Salvatore.

"Are you? Because this whole plan is, um, it's contingent upon your honour, Elijah," Stefan warns him, and Lorilei takes a step towards them about to defend the Noble Vampire, who stops her.

"I won't fail you," The Original assures him.

"Klaus is your brother. I know I've wanted to kill my brother a thousand times. I've never been able to," The baby Vampire argues, and Lorilei stands next to Elijah.

"Well, Klaus was not my only brother. I had siblings, parents. I had a family," Elijah tells him and takes Lorilei's hand, squeezing it to assure her. "Over the centuries, Klaus hunted them down one by one and he took them from me. He scattered them across the seas where their bodies couldn't be found, even by Lorilei."

"You want revenge," Stefan replies, looking at the pair.

"Sometimes there's honour in revenge, Stefan. I won't fail you," He assures the young Vampire.

"Please end this," The younger Salvatore pleads with the Orignal, who looks at him.

"I brought the Gilbert journals. I think I know the spell you're talking about," John comments as he comes down into the basement after being dropped off by Damon, carrying a box.

"Where's Damon?" Bonnie asks him.

"Upstairs. Alaric wanted to talk to him," He informs her, looking at the creaking ceiling.

"He did what?!" Damon sneers after Alaric tells him about Stefan, who's already left for the quarry.

"He wasn't going to let Jenna die," Alaric argues, seeing the anger in his blue eyes.

"We have a Witch. Scratch that, two Witches. They can kill Klaus. No one has to die!" The older Salvatore argues back, angry at his brother and everyone else.

"Except for Bonnie!" The history teacher snaps, and in the Vampire's anger, he punches the wall, creating a little hole.

"God, Stefan, damn it!" Damon curses, pulling his hand out of the hole he'd made.

"Hey, are you okay?" Alaric asks him, seeing his friend in relatively bad shape, though he seems to be hiding it a little better.

"I'm fine. Well, that's my brother for you. Always cleaning up my messes," He groans, changing the subject.

"Hello, Jenna," Klaus greets her, looking at the remaining two women in the rings of fire.

"Let her go. I understand that I have to die, but she doesn't!" Looking at the Hybrid, Elena argues and tries stepping towards the fire but backs away as the fire grows hotter.

"Careful," He warns her, seeing her step away.

"Elena, don't," Jenna warns the girl.

"No, Jenna! We can't leave Jeremy without a family," The doppelganger reminds her, trying to sway her mind, though it won't work, and she looks at the Original. "I followed your rules; I did everything that you asked. I didn't run. Please.

"Well, well," Klaus mutters, raising his head slightly as he hears something behind them. "I don't recall you being on the guest list." The girls look up to see Stefan on the cliff, seemingly waiting for the Hybrid.

"I'm here to talk," Stefan announces, informing the Original.

"Very well, then," Klaus agrees and speeds up to the top of the cliff with Stefan. "What can I do for you, Mr Salvatore?"

"What the hell is happening? Text Lorilei," Maddox tells Luka, who quickly gets out his phone, handing the puppet to the older Warlock.

Back at the old Witch's house in the basement, Damon talks with John, Jeremy and Bonnie about their plan. "We found something in the Gilbert journals," Bonnie informs the Vampire.

"Johnathan journaled the story of a mother who called on Emily's services. The woman's baby was sick, dying. Emily cast a spell that would bind a woman's life force with her child." John explains.

"Skip to the save Elena part," Damon grumbles, growing anxious about saving the girl he loves.

"Well, the child died, but the mother's life force flowed through her, restoring her to life," The older Gilbert explains, having read the journal passage.

"We already know Elena's going to come back to life but she'll be a Vampire," Jeremy argues.

"Not if her soul remains intact," John corrects him.

"Her soul, really? You're going to put your faith in some act of God mumbo jumbo?" Damon scoffs in disbelief.

"I refuse to let Elena become the thing I've spent my life protecting her against. And you can call that God or mystical energy, whatever you want, but yes… I'm putting my faith in it," He retorts, getting in the Vampire's face, needing something to help the daughter he abandoned.

Elena and Jenna look up at Stefan and Klaus, watching the two men as they talk. "What's going on?" The strawberry blond questions, looking at the doppelganger.

"I-I don't know. You can hear them. Your senses are heightened. You can hear anything. Just focus on them," Elena instructs her aunt as they watch the two men on the top of the cliff, having a conversation they can't hear.

"You don't need to kill Jenna. I'll take her place," Stefan offers.

"Oh, I don't know. I rather appreciate the symmetry of three women- Three Goddesses- Sacrificed at nature's altar." Klaus replies with a smug smirk.

"What are they saying?" Elena asks her aunt.

"I can't- I can't make it out," Luka stutters, looking at Maddox for help, waiting for a reply from Loirlei.

"You can do this. Just relax. Focus," The brunette instructs Jenna.

"Don't play games with me. You'll get what you want," Stefan warns the Hybrid.

"You're quite the hero, aren't you? I've heard that about you," Klaus comments, looking at the young Vampire.

"Just make the trade. Me for Jenna," He offers, and Jenna hears everything they say.

"Oh, my God," Jenna gasps in shock and a little happiness.

"What is it?" Elena asks her, and the Warlocks look unsure of what is happening.

"He wants to take my place," She announces, hiding a smile as she looks at the doppelganger, who looks at her in horror at the choice. While the Warlocks look at each other, unsure of what will happen, Maddox grabs his phone, texts the McKnight Witch again, letting her know what's happening and waits for Lorilei to answer.

Caroline closes the door to the living room and rejoins Matt outside. "How's Tyler doing?" The human asks her, worried about his best friend.

"Sleeping. He should be better by morning. He just… He needs some rest," Caroline replies, looking at her feet.

"Good. So this is your life now, huh?" Matt asks her, looking at the Vampire.

"Never a dull moment," She jokes a little.

"You know, these last few days with you have been so great, and fun and so Caroline," He muses, and she smiles with hope. "I-I thought that I might be able to get past this whole Vampire thing."

"But you can. Matt…" The blond Vampire tries to fight for their relationship, but it's already hit the end of the line for the human.

"I don't know if I can, Caroline," The blond quarterback mutters, but she hears him clearly.

"Matt!" Caroline exclaims, trying to fight it.

"I get it. This is your life now. You know what my life is, Care? My life is an absentee mom. And a bunch of bills to pay, and school, and a job, and it sucks sometimes. But it's my life. And… I think that I just want to live it without all of this," The blond human rants, both blonds close to tears.

Bonnie casts a spell on John in the basement of the old Witch's house, with the others waiting for her to finish. "This is pointless," Lorilei mutters as she waits upstairs, away from the others, standing next to Elijah.

"It was your idea to not tell them what you'd done," Elijah argues, looking at her.

"It's revenge," She grins at him, and the McKnight Witch gets a text from Maddox. "Stefan's offered himself over to Klaus." The woman texts him back, explaining what is happening to the two Warlocks.

"Come on, Bonnie, we got a Hybrid to kill," Damon groans, watching the Bennett Witch, wanting her to hurry up as he wants to save the girl and his brother.

"It's done," Bonnie announces, pulling her hands away from John's head.

"That's it? Let's go," He questions and leaves as John opens his eyes, and Bonnie looks at Jeremy, knowing what she has to do.

"I'll be back soon," She tells him.

"Wait, what do you mean? No, I'm coming. I need to be there. I need to make sure you guys are okay," Jeremy argues, wanting to help his sister and aunt.

"And who's going to make sure you're okay?" The Witch questions.

"I've got my own ring. Look, I'm not taking no for an answer," He tells her, showing his piece of jewellery, she comes up with an idea, kissing him, using a spell to send him to sleep, and John catches his nephew before he hits the floor.

"Just go. I'll stay with him," John tells them, and Bonnie and Damon walk off, leaving them, and they head upstairs to Elijah and Alaric, who is waiting for them inside.

"It's time," Elijah announces.

"All right. I got the weapons in the car," Alaric says, needing to fight for his girlfriend.

"Bonnie's the only weapon we need," He argues and walks outside, seeing Lorilei pacing, but stops when she sees him safely out of the old Witch's house. The history teacher goes to walk out, but he's trapped inside the house, with no escape thanks to the Bennett Witch.

"Bonnie! What is this?" The history teacher shouts, watching the Witches and Vampires walk away, leaving the humans alone.

"I can't put anyone else at risk," Bonnie tells him, looking at her teacher and friend.

"I can't stay here with Jenna out there!" Alaric argues, getting angry, trying to get through the barrier.

"I'm sorry," She replies, and Lorilei rolls her eyes at the stupidity of the little group.

"You can't do this! Damon?" He looks to his best friend for help.

"Sorry, buddy. She's right," Damon argues, not wanting anyone else to die.

"No! You can't do this," The history teacher shouts as they walk away, leaving him as he tries to get through the barrier. "Bonnie! Bonnie!"

"Elena…" Jenna mutters, looking at the doppelganger through the flames.

"I have to do something. This can't happen. None of it," Elena shakes her head in defeat when Klaus and Stefan arrive back at the ritual site.

"Quite the predicament. You know, it's funny. All this talk about preserving family, and here's Stefan. Granting your wish," Klaus comments as he looks at the brunette teen.

"Stefan…" She gasps, looking at her boyfriend.

"It's okay," Stefan tells her, trying to reassure his girlfriend.

"Well. Who's it going to be, Elena?" Klaus asks the doppelganger, looking at the couple, questioning their relationship in his head.

"No," Elena answers steadily.

"Oh, don't worry. There's actually no choice," The Hybrid tells her, grabbing a stake from his jacket pocket, and thrusting it into Stefan's back, making the baby Vampire shout in pain as he breaks the stake, making it impossible for the baby Vampire to take it out himself.

"No! Stefan! No!" She yells in distress, looking at her injured boyfriend.

"I have other plans for your boyfriend. I want him alive. But for now…." Klaus tells her and punches the baby Vampire, making him fall to the floor unconscious for now. "Whenever you're ready, Greta." The circle of fire around Jenna disappears, and the Hybrid looks at the new Vampire. "Your turn."

"No, Jenna, no!" The doppelganger shouts at them, and Jenna looks at her.

"It's alright, Elena. I know what I have to do," Jenna assures her, the two Warlocks look at each other as the strawberry blond rushes over to Greta, about to bite into her next, but Maddox takes control of the Vampire, stopping her with enough time for Klaus catches her, taking her in the lower chest. Jenna falls to the ground as Elena cries, and the strawberry blond looks at her.

"Just turn it off, Jenna. Turn it off. You won't be scared anymore," Elena tells her with tears running down her face as she watches Klaus stake her aunt again, killing her, her skin turning grey. Elena breaks into sobs as she looks at her aunt's body. "No! Jenna! No! Jenna! No!" Stefan wakes though he still has a piece of stake in his back; he looks at Jenna's dead body and then at his girlfriend in tears.

"I'm so sorry," Stefan whispers, barely able to talk with the stake in his back.

"Are they going to kill him?" The doppelganger whispers back, and he nods as Klaus gets closer to the brunette.

"It's time," Klaus announces, and the circle of fire disappears around Elena; he holds his hand out towards her, but she doesn't take it as she gets to her feet. Instead, she walks over to the stone altar, and the Hybrid looks at her, impressed with her bravery, and follows her. "Thank you, Elena." He means it in some dark and twisted way.

"Go to hell," Elena sneers as she looks away, and he moves her hair away from her neck. He delicately bites into her neck and drinks her blood dry; Stefan looks at her, feeling powerless, as he looks at the doppelganger, who looks back at him. Finally, Klaus releases Elena, and she falls to the ground dead.

"I can feel it. It's happening. Yes, yes!" Klaus exclaims, feeling the change as he transforms, but Bonnie arrives, throwing the Hybrid onto the ground. Damon races towards the Witch, who raises her hand to stop the Bennett Witch, but Maddox jumps from his hiding stop, pushing the Vampire away. "You were dead!" He shouts, and Bonnie uses her powers, making the Original suffer as he screams in pain. Finally, Damon gets up, looks around, and sees the supposedly dead Warlock standing by Greta, ensuring she's okay.

"You were dead?" Damon parrots Klaus, looking at Maddox.

"I have an old friend to thank," Maddox tells the older Salvatore with a grin and walks away with the Witch into the trees, reuniting with her little brother, who hugs her. Damon shakes it off, runs over to Elena, carrying her, and lays beside Stefan as he takes the stake out of his brother's back, making him groan and break heavily as he heals.

"Elena," Stefan groans through the pain, looking at his girlfriend's lifeless body. "I need you to get her out of here!" He looks to his brother for help.

"What about you?" Damon asks him, looking between them.

"I'm not leaving until he's dead. Go!" The younger brother argues, and Damon carefully picks up Elena and runs from the quarry as Bonnie continues the attack on Klaus, who keeps screaming in pain. Bonnie stops her assault with Klaus on the ground in pain, and Elijah walks over to his younger brother. Loirlei stops by Stefan and Bonnie as they watch the two Originals.

"Elijah?" Klaus questions, looking at his older brother.

"Hello, brother," Elijah greets him, standing over the younger Original and plunging his hand into the Hybrid's chest. "In the name of our family, Niklaus…."

"I didn't bury them at sea! Their bodies are safe. If you kill me, you'll never find them," Klaus reveals, and Elijah looks at his brother and then at Lorilei.

"That damn bastard. I knew it," Lorilei curses, stepping behind the Bennett Witch.

"Elijah! Don't listen to him," Stefan argues, trying to save his girlfriend from the Hybrid.

"I can take you to them. I give you my word… Brother," Klaus promises his older brother.

"Do it, or I'll take you both out," Bonnie warns the Originals, thinking highly of herself.

"You'll die," Lorilei reminds her with a hidden meaning.

"I don't care," She replies, looking at the McKnight Witch.

"I'm sorry," Elijah apologises and looks at his ward, who nods in agreement as he disappears, taking Klaus with him.

"I'm not," Lorilei grins, grabbing Bonnie around the face, siphoning the magic out of the young Witch, making her look in shock.

"What are you?" Bonnie asks her as Stefan goes to attack her, but she pushes him away with her magic.

"I'm a Siphon. Goodbye little Bennett," The McKnight Siphon smirks and disappears into the sand, leaving them alone.

"She's badass," Greta comments as she stands with Maddox and Luka.

"Thanks," Lorilei says, appearing behind them. "We should go."

Alaric, Jeremy and John wait at the old Witch's house, not hearing about what happened at the ritual site. John writes a letter as Jeremy reads the rest of Jonathan Gilbert's journal as they wait for at least something. "We should have heard from them by now," Alaric worries as he paces, waiting for the others to arrive.

"Did you read all this?" Jeremy asks his uncle.

"I did," John replies, not caring about the outcome.

"So you understand what happened to the child's mother after the baby was brought back to life." He informs him, worried for his seemingly only relative that is living.

"She saved her daughter. She found peace," The Vampire hunter adds, looking at his nephew, seeming at peace with his choice.

"John…" The youngest Gilbert tries to stop him and gets up from his chair, handing him a letter for his daughter.

"I need you to give this to Elena for me and also this," John requests and gives his family ring.

"Oh, hey, what's going on?" Alaric asks, looking at them, and John looks back at them.

"Take care of each other. Please," The Vampire hunter requests, and they hear a noise from upstairs.

"I think they're here!" The history teacher announces, and they come upstairs to see Damon with Elena in his arms, lifeless and lays her on one of the dusty couches.

"If you come back as a Vampire, I'll stake you myself. So don't." Damon mutters, moving some of her hair out of her face as the others emerge from the basement. "Because I can't stand the idea of you hating me forever."

"How is she?" Jeremy asks, looking at his lifeless sister.

"I don't know yet," He replies, keeping his eyes on the doppelganger.

"What about Jenna?" Alaric asks, looking at his best friend, who doesn't look at him or answer. "No."

"I'm sorry, Jeremy," Damon tells him, seeming sincere; John gives them one final look before walking outside, and Elena springs up, gasping for air. "Elena!"

"What happened?" Elena asks, looking around at the others.

"How do you feel?" He asks her, checking her over.

"I feel fine," She answers, and John looks into the room before turning away, taking a breath and closing his eyes, expecting to die, but nothing happens.

Caroline sits next to Tyler on the couch in his living room as he wakes in pain from the healing bullet wound. "Ooh, yeah, you got shot, but it's healing," Caroline apologises, looking at him.

"You were right. I shouldn't have come home," Tyler complains.

"No, you just… Should have never left. And you shouldn't leave again," The blond Vampire tells him.

"You're kidding, right? This is the second time I've tried to kill you," He reasons.

"Well, no friendship is perfect. Matt broke up with me," Caroline informs him.

"I'm sorry," The young wolf tells her, feeling for the blond.

"Yeah, well, you know, instead of just bailing on me again, you could just say… "Thank you, Caroline, for taking care of me. And I'm sorry that I tried to chow down on you again"." Caroline tells him, and she breaks into tears.

"Hey. Hey. Come here," Tyler comforts her, pulling her into a hug, though he winces a little from the pain. "Thank you, Caroline. For taking care of me."

"You're welcome," The blond sobs as she hugs her friend.

Lorilei stands in the quarry the following day, looking at the body of Jenna, and waves her hand over the body, revealing her uncle. "Hello, uncle Harrison," She crouches down by the body, sighs before hearing something behind her, and disappears as Alexis and Edward arrive. Alexis stands as far away as possible from the body, but Edward steps closer, seeing their uncle lying on the stone altar.

"Is he definitely dead?" Alexis asks her brother, seeming scared, fidgeting with her coat.

"Yeah. He was turned into a Vampire," Edward answers and waves his head; the body of Harrison bursts into flames, and his body turns into ash. He turns back to his twin sister, seeing the tears in her eyes, and walks over to her, leaving the ashes to blow in the wind. "He can't hurt you anymore. He's gone." Alexis sobs loudly as she clings to her brother as he holds her, and Lorilei watches her younger siblings, wanting to go to them but stops herself, unsure of what will happen if she goes to them.

Elena walks into the quiet Salvatore boarding house with her brother, the Salvatore brothers, Alaric, John and Bonnie, not expecting what they see once they enter the living room because lying on one of the couches is an unconscious Jenna. Alaric rushes to his girlfriend's side in worry, checking on her, and she still seems to be sleeping as the others go to her side, seeming concerned and confused at the appearance of the strawberry blond. "What the hell is going on?" Elena questions, looking at Bonnie for some answers.

"I don't know. I did the spell perfectly on John. It should have worked," Bonnie argues, and the doppelganger frowns.

"Then Lorilei's elixir worked around the Vampire blood like she told me," She adds, and everyone looks at her.

"But that doesn't explain Jenna? Who was that?" Stefan questions, looking around the room, but no one has an answer when the strawberry blond gasps away.

"Where's Lorilei?" Jenna asks, looking around for the McKnight Witch.

"Did she do this to you?" John asks her, and she nods as Alaric helps her sit up.

"She did something to me. I remember getting a call from Elena, who I guess was Katherine and I called Lorilei. She appeared then it went black," She explains, and everyone wonders what the Witch had done and why.

A few days later, John grabs the mail, moving into the kitchen with Alaric and Jenna as they cook breakfast, waiting for Elena and Jeremy to wake up. "I think I know who was killed instead of Jenna," He announces, showing the strawberry blond the funeral announcement that afternoon.

"Harrison McKnight," Jenna gasps, taking the announcement.

"I remember him. Nathan's younger brother. He was always a strange one," John comments as Alaric looks between them.

"He's Lorilei's uncle?" Alaric questions, looking at the invite from his students.

"Yeah. There were rumours about him once he went mad. That was sometime before his brother and sister-in-law were killed." The Vampire Hunter explains.

"How did they die?" Jenna questions, seeing a knowing look in his eyes.

"The guess is now that Lorilei killed them," John answers her.

"She did," Jeremy announces, walking into the kitchen and alerting the adults to his presence.

"How do you know that?" Jenna asks her nephew.

"The twins told me when I went to ask them about Lorilei," He explains, standing by his aunt.

"What did they tell you?" John asks him.

"She did it for no reason," The youngest Gilbert answers.

"She didn't," He corrects him, surprising the teen.

"Who didn't?" Elena asks, coming into the room.

"Lorilei McKnight was pranked the night of her prom, and there were whispers about the bruises she'd come to school with," The Vampire hunter informs them, and Jenna nods, remembering their time in high school.

"It was awful. I remember her coming to school with a black eye," Jenna mutters; Alaric looks at his girlfriend, rubbing her back in comfort.

"She still killed her parents," Elena remarks and the others look at her in surprise at her rude comment.

"We should go to the funeral for Alexis and Edward," The aunt decides, and everyone agrees.

Damon and Stefan stand outside the Gilbert house in black suits later that day, ready for the funeral. "How's she doing?" Damon asks his brother.

"She almost lost the only parents she had. She's in shock," Stefan replies, siding with the doppelganger, who is upstairs in her bedroom in a black dress; she puts in her earrings, looking at the pictures around her mirror of her parents and Jenna. Jeremy walks into her doorframe, also wearing a black suit.

"I'm almost ready," Elena assures him, and the teen decides he's done with John being a coward and takes out the letter their uncle wrote when he thought he would die.

"Take your time," Jeremy tells her, giving her the envelope. "John wanted me to give you this. And this," He hands her the family ring as John has decided to hang up his stakes for now. The younger teen walks away, and she sits down next to her window and starts reading the letter.

The Scooby gang arrive at the small service for Harrison McKnight with Alexis and Edward holding each other. Elena hugs the twins, who look incredibly uncomfortable, and others try to give their condolences to the McKnight twins and place flowers on the grave. Jeremy walks over to Alexis, taking her hand, and she looks up at the youngest Gilbert and her brother before giving him the letter Lorilei wrote them the night of the ritual. He reads it and pulls the blond into a hug, which doesn't go unnoticed by the others as she cries for an entirely different reason. Damon steps away from the others momentarily, feeling the Werewolf venom's effects running through his veins, and Stefan joins his brother. "We're going to head back to the house," Stefan informs him.

"I think I'll skip the coffee and tea cakes," Damon jests a little, wanting to be alone.

"Damon, we need each other right now. All of us," He reminds his brother.

"And then what's the plan, Stefan? The curse is broken. How does one go about killing an all powerful wolf-Vamp and his two-faced older brother and their pets?" The older brother argues.

"I have no idea," The younger Salvatore replies.

"You need to get an idea. Fast," Damon tells him, not seeing a future.

"We will. I'm not going to let Elena lose anyone," Stefan argues, only thinking of the doppelganger.

"I wouldn't make any promises, brother," The snarky Vampire replies.

"What's that supposed to mean?" The bunny muncher questions, and Damon lifts his sleeve, revealing the Werewolf bite.

"Tyler Lockwood bit me. It's actually more of a nip, really, but there it is," Damon informs him.

"We'll find something. A cure," Stefan suggests with little hope of it coming true.

"There's no cure, Stefan," He argues.

"We kept Elena human, right? We found the way when there was no way. Hey. I will do this," The younger brother promises him.

"You want to do something for me? Keep this from Elena. Last thing she needs is another grave to mourn," Damon warns him and walks away, leaving his brother behind and passing some onlookers.

"Why don't you just go over there," Maddox suggests, looking at Lorilei, who is dressed appropriately for the occasion.

"I just killed the only other family member they have left. Even if it was justified," Lorilei snaps, not looking at him as she doesn't move her eyes from the twins. "I can't just go over there and expect a hug, especially with the moron brigade with them."

"They'll forgive you one day. You know that, Lollipop," He assures her, but before she can answer, her phone rings, and she looks to see that Elijah is calling her.

"What do you want? I'm in the middle of something… Huh? Clothes for your brother? Seriously? Who am I his maid?" She snaps, still on edge.

"We'll get them," The Warlock says, and she hangs up the phone.

"We will, will we?" The Siphon questions, but he doesn't answer and walks away with her, following him back to Alaric's apartment. "I hate him already. You know."
