Smells Like Teen Spirit
After another day, Elena lies awake, not getting any sleep all night from what happened at senior prank night, and her alarm rings at 5 am, so she slams her hand down, silencing it and gets up, needing to move around. Elena opens the curtains and moves to her mirror, looking at herself, pushing her hair, when she spots the bite marks on her neck from Stefan the night before and grabs her make-up to cover it as she didn't want Damon to give her his blood. Elena quickly changes into something to work out in and runs into Alaric, who isn't ready for the day. "Good morning," She greets him, but he doesn't reply. He looks at her, suffering from another hangover.
Elena trains in the woods with Alaric, practising on one of his mannequins as he shows her how to stake a Vampire with a sleeve he invented that holds two slim stakes inside. "So the pressure of your punch ejects the stakes," Alaric explains, pointing to the mechanism.
"Easy enough," Elena nods, taking the sleeve and tightening it around her wrist before throwing a sad excuse of a punch, which doesn't set the stakes free. "That's weird," She muses and tries again, but it doesn't work. "Must be jammed or something," She taps on it, but nothing still happens.
"You're not strong enough. Better start lifting some weights; put some meat on your bones," Alaric tells Elena bluntly, shaking his head with a little smirk.
"Thanks for not sugar-coating it," The Doppelganger smirks at him, and he takes something out of his bag, showing it to her.
"You know what this is?" The History Teacher asks her, showing her the sleek black device with a liquid inside.
"A vervain grenade. I've used one before," Elena confirms, looking at it a little smug.
"Then you know the element of surprise is your only advantage when it comes to a Vampire." Alaric tells her, shocking her as he pulls the pin out of the grenade and throws it in Elena's hand. "Surprise."
"Oh my God!" She freaks, throwing it into the air, and the grenade explodes. "This isn't a joke to me, Ric." She turns to him angrily.
"You think I'm joking?" The Vampire Hunter snaps, his dark side rearing its ugly head. "Vampires will take whatever they want. They will hurt whoever they want. And they'll do it without remorse. It's their nature."
"You don't have to use pronouns. You can say 'Stefan'." The brunette teen argues, cooling down.
"Look, I get why you're here. Stefan hurt you. You don't want it to happen again," Alaric warns her, wanting to keep her safe.
"But you think that I'm crazy. To believe that I can protect myself from a Vampire who's flipped to the dark side." Elena argues, mentioning her ex-boyfriend, who has sided with Klaus and Lorilei.
"I think you found a way to get out of bed this morning. And that makes you the strongest person I know. I think that you can do pretty much anything." He assures her, smiling at the girl and giving her the sleeve, but she gives it back, knowing she needs to work on her strength if she's going to defend herself against Vampires.
"Beth! Sara! Get your lunches!" Maggie shouts at her daughters as they stand in the kitchen before breakfast, and the others help make lunches and cook breakfast for everyone. "Beth! Sara!" She shouts again, holding their lunches for their first day as seniors at Mystic Falls High School with Bobby and Blake, as they just recently turned seventeen.
"Coming!" The twins shout back as they rush into the commercial-sized kitchen, with all the adults cooking breakfast and the older teens making lunches for the younger members of the Pack under Maggie's supervision.
"What were you doing? You were awake ages ago," She sighs, looking at her daughters.
"Their hair, probably," Nathan jokes, strolling past on his way to the dining room and taking his lunch.
"Snitch," Sandra jokes, looking at her adopted son, who hangs his head. "No one likes snitches. They end up in the woods after dark naked."
"Mum!" He yelps, running inside the dining room.
"Gets him every time," She laughs, bringing in a plate of bacon as everyone else begins bringing in bowls and plates of food.
"Where's Rebekah?" David asks, looking around for the blond Original Vampire, not seeing her anywhere.
"Becky!" The younger children shout, making the Werewolves and Hybrids cringe at the volume, and Rebekah strolls into the room, looking at them in surprise.
"What is it?" Rebekah asks, looking around the room, still not used to being around them even after a day.
"It's breakfast," Leo tells her, sitting with his wife and son near the end of the table.
"Oh, right," She smiles, feeling welcomed by the large Pack, though she misses her older Brother and the rest of her family.
"Let's say a prayer," Diana suggests with a cruel smile. "Please allow our day to ruin others and the blood of the Doppelganger continue to run for those that wish to follow on the path of the False Moon."
"Lovely as ever, darling," Martin jokes, shaking his head at his cruel and mischievous wife and kissing her on the cheek.
"God, you are so embarrassing," Phoebe groans, sliding in her seat, and the others laugh; the table is a light and friendly place for everyone.
Elena, Caroline and Bonnie stand in front of the school as seniors, with Elena changed and wearing a scarf to hide the bite marks. "Here we are. Senior year," Caroline smiles, trying to lighten the mood.
"Anyone else think it should feel slightly more empowering?" Bonnie muses, looking at her best friends.
"Okay. So, prank night was a bust. But we are accepting it, and we are moving on," She says, trying to cheer her friends up, though all three have had a terrible summer.
"You're right," The Bennett Witch agrees. "I mean, why should I let the fact that my boyfriend is seeing the ghost of his dead girlfriend and seeming to be starting a relationship with Alexis McKnight hinder this experience?" She thinks of her conversation with Jeremy late the night before and yesterday.
"Yes!" The blond Vampire nods enthusiastically. "And why should I let the fact that my boyfriend was turned into a Hybrid put a damper on an otherwise fabulous day." She walks forward with Bonnie, but Elena stays where she is.
"Today's our anniversary. Technically, Stefan and I met on the first day of school last year." Elena says sullenly, making her friends look at her.
"Yeah. You win," Caroline sighs, looking at the brunette Doppelganger.
"Are you sure you want to be here?" Bonnie asks her, looking sympathetic to her friend, though all three best friends deal with boyfriend problems.
"I have to be here. I have to put it behind me. New year. New life," Elena assures them and walks away as Caroline and Bonnie share a look before following her inside.
Damon wakes up at home the day after senior prank night, having a day to get used to his Brother being back after a summer of searching for him. He goes downstairs to find the living room in perfect condition, making him wonder what happened with his younger Brother over the summer. He sees Stefan sitting on the couch with a drink in hand. "Uh-oh. Alexandra left hand, please," Stefan jokes, looking at his older Brother. "Oh, hey there Brother."
"You think you're so funny," Damon fake laughs, looking around as he tries to find signs of his Brother being out of control.
"Thanks. And if you're trying to look for reasons to lock me up in the basement again, then I'm sorry to tell you, well, I'm cured." He informs him, standing up and placing his book on the sofa.
"So this is what Klaus had in mind when he compelled you to protect Elena?" The older Salvatore Brother argues, changing the subject, not processing that his baby brother is better around blood.
"Klaus didn't compel me to do anything. I'm here because Lorilei asked me to make sure you don't do anything stupid," The former Ripper replies calmly, and there's a knock on the door as the Brothers stare at each other. Damon folds and opens the door to reveal Rebekah with Blake in tow, both holding shopping bags.
"Where's Stefan?" Rebekah asks, looking at Damon.
"Who the hell are you two?" Damon asks, looking at the two girls at his door, but Rebekah pushes into the house with Blake, eyeing the older Brother as they walk into the living room to find Stefan still sitting on the couch.
"He left me here. My Brother actually left me here. I'm so annoyed at him for taking Lorilei," Rebekah pouts, winking at Stefan, who nods as he understands what she's doing.
"Oh, I'm sorry. Your tone implies that I'm actually supposed to care," Stefan jokes, earning a smirk from Rebekah and a snicker from Blake.
"You're Klaus' Sister?" Damon questions, looking at the tall, gorgeous blond standing in his house.
"No, she's the Queen's Mother," Blake snaps sarcastically, earning a glare from the older Salvatore Brother.
"Rebekah. Pleasure, I'm sure, and this is Blake Norman, one of my Brother's future Hybrids." She introduces them, earning a glare from the older Brother at the mention of Hybrids.
"Nice to see you again, Stefan," Blake smiles at him, ignoring the glare coming from Damon.
"Nice seeing you, too, Blake," Stefan replies, smiling back at her, and Rebekah looks between them, feeling a little jealous at the attention her ex-lover is giving her new friend.
"Well, we need to be going. Don't want to be late," Rebekah announces, interrupting their little moment and moving towards the door.
"See ya later," Blake says, following the blond Original, and the girls leave out the front door with a loud slam.
"What was that about?" Damon asks once the door slams shut behind the girls, and Stefan can't help but smirk.
"What do you mean?" Stefan questions, looking at his older Brother before heading upstairs to get ready for school.
Jeremy walks through the hallway at school, arriving with Edward and Alexis as they live together now, and he goes to find his girlfriend, heading to her locker. "So what? It's not cool to talk to juniors anymore?" Jeremy jokes, joining Bonnie at her locker.
"Hey. Happy first day," Bonnie greets him flatly, emptying her bag into her locker for the beginning of the school year.
"You mad?" He asks her, frowning as he looks at her, wondering why she's ignoring him and acting so cold.
"I'm not mad. I'm resigned to the fact I'm sharing space in our relationship with Anna, Vicki and Alexis." She glares, seeing the blond McKnight twin strolling past with Edward.
"I haven't talked to Vicki in a while, and I live with Alexis; we're just friends," The young Gilbert boy argues, not telling her about the almost kiss the night before.
"That's not the point, Jeremy," The Bennett Witch reminds him, getting angry at him for his betrayal.
"I know that. I know. Okay? But I had to see Anna again, Bonnie. She had information that Damon needed," Jeremy argues, though he leaves out that he switched sides after what Damon did and not even a text of worry from his 'Sister'.
"I get it, Jeremy. But put yourself in my shoes. You loved both of them. And you guys didn't break up. They died. And you keep letting them back in." Bonnie tells him, trying to get through to him, blaming him for something he has no control over.
"You think I want any of this?" He asks her, looking at her hurt as she closes her locker before looking back at him.
"I, um… I think you have the power to decide whether or not you see them. Remember that, Okay?" She replies before leaving, and Alexis stands across the hall at her locker, watching.
"I can see why Lei doesn't like Bennetts," Alexis sighs, watching Jeremy, who walks over to her and she brightens up.
Matt parks his truck in the school car park and looks around, dreading going inside after the night before, when Vicki appears suddenly in the passenger seat. "You were always so much better at being a part of this than I was," Vicki remarks as she looks around at everyone heading inside and startles Matt, making him look at her. "Sorry."
"You can't just keep appearing like this. Freaks me out," Matt warns her, looking around so no one sees him talking to himself.
"I'm a Ghost. It's all I got. And I couldn't appear if you weren't thinking about me," She reminds him.
"Well, I was just thinking about our first day last year. I was worried about running into Elena, and you said…" He muses, looking out the window, reminiscing about the past.
"Suck it up. Be a man. And show her what she's missing," The Ghost of His Sister finishes, smiling.
"Yeah. Instead, she met a Vampire," The blond teen grumbles, thinking of Stefan and Elena.
"You okay, Matty? You seem unhappy," Vicki states, looking at her Brother with worry.
"Yeah, I just… life stuff. You know, with you gone and Mum not around, it's… A lot to deal with alone. I'm glad I get to talk to you, though. I miss you," Matt tells her, wishing she was there with him alive again.
"I miss you, too. What if I told you there was a way that you could help me come back?" She plays him, listening to the old Witch on the Other Side.
"What do you mean come back?" He asks her, looking at her and jumps when Tyler knocks on the window, and Vicki disappears.
"Donovan! What are you doing? Come on, man. Let's go!" Tyler exclaims, and Matt jumps out of the truck, joining Tyler. "You talking to yourself?"
"What's got you in such a good mood?" The blond quarterback questions, changing the subject.
"We're seniors, man. Life is good," He replies joyfully as everyone heads for the school.
Maddox stands above the tomb with Mikael inside, still fast asleep with a tied-up Katherine not too far away, having kidnapped the Vampiric Doppelganger when she was snooping around the McKnight house. "Don't worry about it; Lorilei dropped her off before they left," Maddox assures Greta as they talk.
"How are you going to kill him?" Greta asks, frowning as she stocks shelves at the bookshop.
"Not sure, Klaus said they're looking into it. I just have to make sure the enchantments around the crypt hold long enough." He explains when Katherine's phone rings. "Hang on, it's Kitty Kat's phone." He puts his phone down and grabs Katherine's, holding it to her ear.
"What?" Katherine asks as if she isn't tied in chains.
"What?" Damon repeats as he stands at home, drinking. "What do you mean, 'what'? I've been calling you for 2 days."
"Odd, that's exactly how long I've been ignoring you," She replies under the control of Maddox.
"Jeremy Gilbert told me that you found Mikael," He replies, rolling his eyes, unaware that Jeremy lied to him.
"Sort of. He's a little bit out of commission. He won't eat. And I've tried everything… Gravediggers, mourners, mice, rats, bats. He's just not interested." The Vampire Doppelganger lies in a trance.
"Well, try harder. We need him to kill Klaus so I can help Stefan see what is really going on around here." The older Salvatore Brother argues, not liking the new Stefan.
"Fine. I'll give it another shot." Katherine tells him, hanging up, and Maddox takes the phone away.
"Nicely done," Maddox smirks, and picks up his phone. "Is Luka already at school?"
"Yeah, but I can text him," Greta replies. "I'll call Lorilei and let her know. Don't worry about it; just focus on the wards and enchantments."
Damon grows frustrated and calls Elena at school; she quickly answers as she stands at her locker, swapping with Caroline not to be too close to Stefan's. "Hey. Are you checking up on me? Because I'm fine," Elena assures him, smiling slightly.
"Yeah. So… You might not want to come here for a while. We have a new development with Stefan and her name's Barbie Klaus and friend." Damon informs her, sitting down.
"Rebekah? She's living with you now? And her friend? Who? Why?" She asks, not sure what's going on anymore.
"No. I think she's living with Klaus' new Hybrids in town. But she's stranded. Apparently, Klaus and Lorilei left her in the dust after I name-dropped Mikael." He explains, looking around, wondering where his Brother's gone as it's too quiet.
"What about Stefan? What is he up to?" The young Doppelganger asks, worried about her ex-boyfriend.
"Oh, you know. Journaling, reading, shaping his hair," The older Salvatore Brother jokes, though he's not far off as Stefan seems more like his old self.
"Come on, Damon. I can handle it. What?" Elena assures him.
"Is that the bell? Oh… Ring! Ring! Don't want to be late," Damon hangs up, and Elena looks at her phone in disbelief before seeing Caroline putting up flyers for the bonfire on the wall opposite her.
"I forgot about the bonfire," She comments, walking over to join her friend.
"You have to go. It's our first spirit squad event. And it sets the bar for the whole year," Caroline pleads with her, not wanting her to miss out.
"Relax, Caroline. I'll be there," The brunette teen assures her, promising the blond.
"Thank you. It's just that…" The blond Vampire tells her but is interrupted as Tyler plants a kiss on her and pulls away when Elena spots something red on his shirt.
"Is that blood?" Elena blurts out, pointing to the collar where the blood splat sits.
"Oh my God!" Caroline exclaims, grabbing Tyler by the arm, and Elena follows them into the girls' bathroom.
"What's going on?!" Tyler snaps at the girls, looking at them as they storm into the girls' bathroom.
"Vampire 101… don't wear your breakfast to school!" Caroline snaps back at her boyfriend, fisting his shirt as Elena checks the cubicles, making sure no one is there to overhear them.
"Chill out. It was just a blood bag," Tyler assures the blond, calming down, but it winds her up more.
"From where?" She questions, frowning at her boyfriend and folding her arms.
"Rebekah hooked me and the pack up," The new Hybrid explains, which goes over the girls' heads, only hearing the blond Original's name.
"Rebekah?" The blond Vampiric teen repeats in disbelief. "And what are you even talking to her for?"
"Klaus told her and the Pack to keep a watch on me. Protect his new asset," Tyler tells her, shrugging.
"His what? Why are you amused by this?" Caroline demands, growing worried for him, and Elena grows uncomfortable and guilty.
"I'm his first successful Hybrid, Caroline. Don't you think that's the tiniest bit awesome?" He argues, grinning.
"Oh, wow! I cannot believe you just said that!" She exclaims in disbelief and surprise.
"So, I'm going to go," Elena mutters, handing over some tissues for her friend before leaving.
Elena steps out of the bathroom and accidentally runs into Stefan, like at the beginning of last school year. "Hello, Elena," Stefan greets her, smiling at her.
"What are you doing here?" Elena demands, looking at him and growing worried about what he's doing at school.
"What do you mean? I'm going back to school. Go Timberwolves!" He jokes, raising his arm as if cheering.
"What?! Why?" She asks him, glancing around for help from anyone, but the hallways are practically empty.
"Klaus wants me to keep an eye on you. I'm just doing what I'm told," The former Ripper informs her, shocking her.
"I'm going to be late for class," The Doppelganger says, walking off, but Stefan grabs her by the arm.
"Oh, class is this way," Stefan reminds her, pointing in the opposite direction and moving around to face her properly.
"Let go of me, Stefan," Elena warns him, though she knows she can't do anything to stop him.
"Elena, do you think I want to be a senior for the 100th time? No," He tells her. "I don't have much of a choice in the matter. And neither do you."
"I said let go of me," She repeats, and Alaric luckily arrives, stepping in to help her.
"Let her go," Alaric orders the Vampire, but Stefan scoffs, pushing the teacher against the locker, gaining some attention.
"Stef-," The Doppelganger begins to bark, but someone else storms over.
"Stefan, stop it!" Blake snaps, her long strawberry blond hair almost hitting Elena in the face as she pulls Stefan away from Alaric, using her Werewolf strength. "The Pack rules are not to start trouble with outsiders."
"I know the rules, Blake. I just don't want him getting in my way again," Stefan argues and turns to Alaric. "You hear me?" He quickly lets the teacher go before moving away. "We will see you both in history." He walks away with Blake, joining Bobby and the twins.
"Dumb move, man," Bobby signs, shaking his head at the Vampire, who smirks at the teen dressed all in black.
"Gloomy as ever, Bobby," The twins say, spooking the others as they involuntarily shiver, and Alaric and Elena watch them walk away down the hallway.
Alaric and Elena go into his classroom before class, needing to talk about what happened. "What the hell is he doing here and with those new students?!" Alaric demands, looking at her and pointing at the door.
"I think Klaus compelled him to watch over me. Apparently I'm one of Klaus' assets now that my blood is the only way he can create a Hybrid." Elena explains, huffing to herself, though in the back of her mind, she remembers the appointment to give blood at the hospital she has next month.
"Now he's a bodyguard?" He questions, looking at her funnily, unsure if he believes that anymore.
"I don't know what he is. But he's definitely not Stefan," She agrees with him, not seeing her old boyfriend in the new Stefan, missing that version of him. Elena is pushed from her thoughts when the school bell rings, signalling the beginning of classes. "Look, his being here is not good for any of us. We have to do something." The students enter the classroom, and Elena gets into her chair with Caroline sitting next to her and a random student on the other side, but Stefan enters the room with Blake and goes toward him. Elena holds her breath, expecting a fight, but he just walks past her to a desk a few seats behind her, and a girl tries sitting opposite him as Blake talks with Alaric, giving him a slip of paper.
"Sorry, this seat's taken," Stefan tells her.
"I don't see anyone," She replies, trying to flirt with him.
"I do," He tells her, pointing behind her to Blake, and the girl turns around, seeing Blake eyeing her.
"Hi, I'm the new girl; get away from my seat," Blake tells her, and the girl moves away, so Blake takes her seat. Elena and Caroline share a look and glance back at Blake and Stefan as they talk, wondering who she is.
"Welcome back, seniors. Let's turn our brains back on, starting with this country's original founders… the Native Americans," Alaric starts the class as everyone settles in their seats when Rebekah dramatically enters the classroom.
"What about the Vikings?" Rebekah questions, sitting in the front row as Tyler, Caroline, and Elena look warily at her as another new face joins the class.
"There's no evidence that Viking explorers actually settled in the United States," He argues.
"Who are you?"
"My name's Rebekah. I'm new. And history's my favourite subject," She smirks up at him.
"I'm Blake, by the way, and history is not my favourite subject," Blake interrupts, waving and smiling, making some students snicker.
Matt walks out of the school during lunch into the back of the building to the stoner pit when Vicki suddenly appears behind him, following him towards the decorated Volkswagen VW bus in the middle of the area. "You've got no business in the stoner pit," Vicki warns her Brother, gaining his attention.
"Figured you'd feel comfortable here," Matt teases his Sister, looking around and making sure no one spots him talking to the air.
"Touche," She jokes, laughing.
"So what do you mean that I can help you come back?" He asks her, quieting the moment.
"Right now, I can only come back when you're thinking of me. But there is a way that I can be free of that," The older Donovan sibling explains, though she doesn't know she's being manipulated.
"How?" The blond Donovan sibling questions, deepening his frown.
"I know this sounds crazy, but I have help from the Other Side," Vicki informs him, smiling wider.
"The Other Side?" Matt repeats, but before he can get an answer, Jeremy arrives, though it seems he doesn't see Vicki.
"Dude, what are you doing over here?" Jeremy asks him, strolling over.
"I could ask you the same question," He retorts, eyeing Elena's little Brother.
"Just looking for my stoner lab partner. All right, see you around," The youngest Gilbert explains, quickly leaving Matt with Vicki.
"Can he not see you anymore?" The blond quarterback wonders, looking at his Sister and growing worried.
Jeremy stalks the hallways for someone and spots just the blond. "We need to talk," He abruptly says, grabbing Alexis' arm and sneaking into a quiet classroom. "He was talking to Vicki right out there in the open."
"Hello to you too. Nice seeing you, but what are you talking about?" Alexis asks him, folding her arms and adjusting her shoulder bag.
"Sorry, but this is important, Alexis. Matt was talking to his dead Sister in the stoner pit," Jeremy explains, making her frown.
"How?" She questions, feeling out of the loop.
"Didn't I tell you that he died?" He questions, and she groans at him. "Guess I did. Sorry." He cringes from the glare she's giving him.
"I'd guess that when he died and came back, he must have started seeing her." The blond McKnight Witch nods.
"She said that she could come back, that she had help on the Other Side," The brunette teenage boy explains and sees the look on her face.
"Help? What kind of help?" Alexis asks him, growing worried and knowing she must ask her big Sister for help.
"Who's helping you?" Matt asks his Sister, still talking to her in the stoner pit.
"The Witch I've been talking to says that there's a ritual. She can do magic from my side to push me over to yours," Vicki explains, smiling sweetly at her Brother, manipulating him as she is being manipulated.
"Is it even possible? Could she come back?" Jeremy asks Alexis, seeing the worry on her face.
"I guess if she had a stronger foothold," Alexis shrugs, not too sure as she's still a studying Witch.
"Like an anchor?" He questions, seeing her struggle.
"Exactly, I think, if I remember my lessons right," She agrees, not liking the idea of Vicki coming back because it will cause more problems than anything.
"Right now, I'm tethered to you," Vicki continues to explain to Matt. "My only access point to your side is through you. But if she were to get a stronger foothold… I'll be able to come and go as I please… When I want, where I want. I won't have to rely on you."
"But you'll still be a Ghost, Vicki," Matt reminds her, frowning, unsure what she really wants from him.
"In a town full of Vampires, Werewolves, and Witches, I'll fit right in," She jokes, shrugging.
"Seriously. You're going to make jokes about this?" He frowns at her, stepping away from her.
"Matt! Relax. No one else will be able to see me," The older Donovan argues, trying to reassure him.
"She's definitely bad news, Jeremy. There's nothing but darkness around her," Alexis warns him, having felt that darkness growing when she passed Matt in the hallway earlier.
"This is Vicki we're talking about. All right? She's not a bad person," Jeremy argues, still thinking of his good memories with his first real girlfriend.
"You can't upset the balance of nature without a heavy price. If she's using a Witch's energy from the Other Side, you don't know what price she's going to pay," She argues, giving him a pensive look.
"I can be a part of this life again, Matt," Vicki reasons with him. "Instead of being on the Other Side all alone. You won't have to be alone anymore, either." She bats her eyes at him, trying to get him to do what she wants, like always.
"What do I have to do?" Matt sighs, giving in to her wishes, wanting to see his Sister happy again and not wanting to be alone anymore, both unaware that they are being manipulated by someone else more dangerous than anyone they've ever faced before, even Klaus.
It's nearing the end of the day, and the football team and cheerleading practice on the field. "Has anybody seen Dana?" A cheerleader asks, looking around, and Rebekah strolls over in shorts.
"Sounds like you have an opening on the squad," Rebekah remarks, striding over with a smug smirk.
"What are you doing?" Caroline questions, looking at the blond Original. She stretches, but the blond Vampire stands still next to her. "Hey. Hey. You can't just come here and infiltrate all our lives."
"I'm only interested in yours. Your spunk, your popularity…" She taunts the younger Vampire and looks at Tyler as he runs around the pitch. "Maybe even your boyfriend."
"It's not the ballet, ladies!" The football coach shouts as the team runs. "Let's move! Let's move!" Tyler grows bored and decides to give his teammates a break.
"I think we're done here, coach," Tyler tells him, trying to compel the man.
"Did you have a mental breakdown, Lockwood? Get back in line!" He snaps at the boy, pointing at the rest of the team.
"I have a better idea," The Lockwood boy smirks, looking the man in the eye. "Shut the hell up so we can go get drunk at the bonfire," He compels the coach successfully.
"Hit the showers, gentlemen!" The football coach orders the team, who happily stop and rush to the locker room, but Caroline sees the whole thing and stomps over to her boyfriend.
"Try to be a little more subtle, Tyler," Caroline warns him, glaring and folding her arms at him.
"Coming from the Queen of Subtlety?" Tyler teases her. "Relax. I'm in total control."
"Then why are you acting like this?" She demands, not liking this version of her boyfriend rearing its head again.
"Drop it, Caroline. I'm fine. I've never been better. Klaus has given me this… gift," He argues, smirking.
"What?!" The young blond Vampire shrieks and notices some guys grinning and looking behind her, even Tyler. Caroline swirls around to see Rebekah doing some impressive gymnastic moves before ending with the splits. Rebekah pointedly looks at Caroline with a smug smile. "My God!"
"Damn, girl's got moves," The young Hybrid compliments, earning a glare from his girlfriend.
"You've got a girlfriend," Bobby mutters, strolling past with Blake, joining Rebekah.
Meanwhile, across the field, Elena runs on the tracks when Stefan annoys and jogs beside her, not even breaking a sweat. "Look at you being all fit," Stefan teases her, seeing how much effort she's putting into getting stronger. "Hey, you going to the bonfire tonight?" He receives silence. "Sounds like fun, right?" He looks at her and still receives silence. "I was going to bring a date." He tries riling her up a little at the thought of him dating someone else.
"Seriously, Stefan, leave me alone," Elena grumbles, turning around, but he still follows her to annoy her.
"You think I'm annoying now? Wait till homecoming. Hey, who you bringing, by the way? Don't want it to be weird," He taunts her, smirking, and a guy accidentally pumps into the Doppelganger.
"I'm sorry," The guy apologises, and Stefan angrily pushes him away, earning a look from the teen.
"Watch it, dick!" The Vampire snaps, faking a glare at the guy.
"Who are you?!" Elena snaps, letting the guy run away from them as she glares at Stefan.
"I'm the guy who's been assigned to protect a Human blood bag. I mean, no offence or anything." Stefan explains, shrugging, and Elena leaves. "What?!" He waves his arms around. "Oh, hey, Blake." He spots the ginger-haired girl as she lies on the grass with sunglasses and steps over to her, sitting next to her. "Sunbathing?"
"Yep. I'm from North Dakota, remember?" Blake smirks, leaning into the sun, and Elena jogs past them, eyeing them.
"Going to the bonfire tonight?" He asks her, making it audible enough for Elena to hear.
"Of course, even Bobby's going. That gloomy wolf," She replies, and there's a silence between them. "You were trying to ask me out, weren't you?" She turns her head and lowers her sunglasses.
"Yeah, I was. I must be losing my touch if you couldn't tell," The former Ripper smirks at her, liking how she acts around him, never showing him a different face and telling it how it is.
"Sure, we can go together. Just if your Brother is there tonight, I am so going to leave you," The red-haired wolf jokes, smiling teasingly at him.
"Funny," Stefan smirks back at her.
Maddox holds a Grimoire as he looks for more ward spells and enchantments to ensure no one can find or release Mikael into the world. His phone begins to ring, distracting him, and he picks it up without looking at the caller ID. "Hey, how's it going? Did you text your Brother?"
"No, I haven't texted Edward, what's going on, Maddie?" Lorilei asks as she stands outside the car at a gas station in Portland.
"Hey, Lollipop!" He exclaims in surprise, dropping the book down onto the crypt floor.
"What's going on?" She repeats, looking around. "What did you do?!" She snaps as Klaus strolls over to her.
"Nothing!" The Warlock mutters. "Just Damon checking in on Katherine, and Alexis just texted me about Jeremy overhearing something about his dead ex who plans to return."
"You guys can't last a day without us," The McKnight Witch groans, getting into the car and putting the phone on speakerphone. "Maddie, please, just secure Mikael till we get home, and I will call Alexis to get the details. Just focus on this one thing."
"Sure, but what Grimoire did you use when you had to secure the Den?" Maddox questions, picking the book back up and flipping through the pages.
"My family Grimoire. Just use the green leather one; it has four different spells and two enchantments that will work perfectly." Lorilei informs him and looks at Klaus, who starts the car with a smirk.
"You're giving Klaus the eye, aren't you?" He laughs, and she hangs up.
"So, what's going on?" Klaus asks her, and she huffs, taking off her leather jacket and revealing her tan top tucked into red plaited jeans that go with black high heels that she also takes off.
"I'm going to kill them; that's what's going on," Lorilei groans, lying her head back. "That town breeds trouble." She grabs her mobile and hits the buttons, phoning her little Sister.
After school, Elena goes to Alaric's apartment, using his gym equipment to help gain some muscles, and she lifts some weights on a bench when Damon finds her walking inside. "What? Are you going to bench press a Vampire?" Damon teases her, making her roll her eyes.
"Do you actually know what's happening right now?" Elena asks him, grunting a little as she bench presses. "Stefan called me a Human blood bag. He's a completely different person." He presses down on the bar. "Uhh! What are you doing?"
"Helping you out," He counters, smirking.
"Damon!" She snaps, not wanting to seem weak in front of him.
"Come on, Buffy!" The older Salvatore Brother taunts her, watching her struggle a little.
"Stop it!" The Doppelganger orders him, but she gives up, letting go, and he holds it above her before putting it back. "Like one obnoxious Salvatore isn't bad enough."
"You called," Damon reminds her as she sits up, huffing. "I'm here. What's your plan, oh Warrior Princess?"
"I want to lock Stefan up, at least until this Mikael guy comes, kills Klaus, and the compulsion breaks," Elena suggests, wiping away her sweat with a towel as he walks around to face her.
"Compulsion or not, Stefan's probably high on Human blood, okay? A lot of it," He warns her, both in denial about the new Stefan.
"You've gotten him off of it before," She argues, wanting her old boyfriend back.
"This is different," The ravenette adds. "It's not a stint in rehab, Elena. He's high on blood and acting different. Light's dimed."
"Then do it for me, Damon," The teen bats her eyes at him. "Every single time I look at him, I feel like I'm going to break. And I'm not going to give him that satisfaction." She stands, and he puts her hand on his chest. "What are you doing?" She looks at him weirdly.
"Feel that? It's a sternum. Solid plate of bone," Damon explains, taking her into his arms and putting his fingers on her back. "Right here, just below the ribcage, next to the spine, that's your way to a Vampire's heart." He removes his fingers, feeling the tension in the air. "I'll do whatever it is you need me to do, Elena." She turns, looking at him dreamily. "No one is going to hurt you. Especially not my Brother."
Before the bonfire, Alaric, Damon, Elena and Caroline meet up in Alaric's classroom to discuss their plan to kidnap Stefan. "I'll lure Stefan away from the bonfire. Then when he's distracted…" Elena explains again, making sure everyone has it down.
"I'll shoot him," Alaric nods, unsure about the plan.
"Can't Bonnie just juju him or something?" Damon questions, wondering why Bonnie isn't there with them.
"I'm trying to keep Bonnie out of this. I don't trust that Stefan won't hurt her," Elena argues and turns to the blond Vampire. "Caroline, are you covered?"
"Yes!" Caroline assures her. "I will make sure that the old Forbes jail cell is prepped and ready."
"We're forgetting a key player here," Damon reminds everyone. "Rebekah? Wherever Stefan goes, the blond ponytail tends to follow."
"Which is why it's your job to keep her away," Elena suggests, though she thinks about Blake being with Stefan and ruining the plan.
"How?!" He grumbles, folding his arms in annoyance. "She's an Original. Last time I checked, we're out of daggers."
"So then preoccupy her with your charm," She teases him, rolling her eyes.
"Might have better luck finding the Dagger," Alaric jokes, earning a few snickers.
"Are you ever not going to be mad at me for a day?" Damon questions, looking at his only friend.
"Doubtful," He retorts, and Tyler enters the classroom.
"Sorry, I'm late. What's going on?" Tyler apologises, stepping over to his girlfriend.
"We need you to raid your Mum's vervain supply. Enough to keep Stefan down for a while," Elena reminds him, and the Sire bond kicks in.
"You can't do that to Stefan," He argues.
"Why not?" Caroline asks her boyfriend, wondering what's changed.
"Trust me, Tyler, it's in his best interest," Elena assures him, trying to change his mind, not understanding what's got him siding with Stefan suddenly.
"Yeah. It's not in Klaus'," Tyler argues, shaking his head.
"But Klaus is the bad guy, Tyler," Caroline reminds her boyfriend. "You know, why are you acting like some freaky, Hybrid, slave minion?"
"Uh-oh," Damon mutters, narrowing his eyes at the Hybrid.
"What?" Alaric asks, looking at the arrogant Vampire.
"Klaus made me who I am, Caroline. I owe him everything," Tyler argues with the blond Vampire.
"Oh, boy," Damon groans, shaking his head, thinking of his
"Okay, can we cool it on the commentary, please," Caroline snaps at her fellow Vampire, glaring at him.
"What is going on?" Elena asks, turning to look at him, and Damon sneakily grabs a vervain dart from the desk.
"I'm just going to go," Tyler decides, but it is too late as Damon rushes at him, putting the dark into his neck, pumping the Hybrid full, and he collapses into the Vampire's arms.
"What are you doing?!" Caroline shrieks, waving her arms at them in anger, surprise and disbelief.
"He's been Sired," Damon informs, lowering Tyler to the floor.
"What?" Alaric asks, frowning as he watches them.
"Sired. He feels loyal to Klaus because Klaus' blood created him," He explains, standing up and looking at the others.
"Loyal how?" Elena questions, moving towards him.
"He'll seek acceptance from his master. It's really rare. But maybe not so much in Hybrid," The older Salvatore Brother further explains.
"So how do I fix him?" Caroline asks, freaking out a little.
"Get a new boyfriend," Damon teases him and walks away.
At the bonfire, Rebekah pours some beer from the keg, and Stefan walks over to her, looking out for Blake. "You alright there?" Stefan asks her, getting himself a drink.
"I thought Tyler would be here," Rebekah grumbles, looking at her cup.
"You're into Tyler now? It's kind of fickle," He teases her, seeing a girl with ginger hair, but it isn't Blake.
"As if you're not looking out for Blake? Please. By the way, she is on her way, the Pack is having a quick meeting," She informs him, smirking at her ex-lover.
"I am not-," The younger Salvatore Brother argues, and Elena storms over to them, pouring herself a beer.
"Excuse me," Elena sneers, pushing into him.
"Elena, hi. What are you doing?" Stefan asks her, not bothered by the Doppelganger.
"I'm having fun, Stefan. You got a problem with that?" She retorts, downing her drink quickly.
"Alright, take it easy. We both know you're kind of a lightweight," The Vampire warns her, smirking.
"Uh-huh. Really?" The Doppelganger pours herself another drink. "You think I'm going to let a blood addict tell me how to drink?"
"Ouch," Blake laughs, pushing harshly into Elena, knocking the drink out of her hand and spilling over her top. "Oops. Sorry, Ellie," She smirks. "So, Stefan, want to make s'mores?"
"Gladly," Stefan offers his hand, and she takes it before they walk off, leaving Rebekah and Elena.
Matt and Vicki stand in their garage at the back of their house, setting up for the spell. Matt puts a picture of Vicki on a crate with some candles before it and takes a knife from his trouser pocket. "Concentrate on me, Matty," Vicki instructs her Brother as he cuts his hand above the photo.
"This is too weird," Matt mutters as the blood pools along the cut on his palm.
"Just focus. This is a good thing," The Ghost assures him, and his blood drips onto the photo. "Now say you accept me."
"I accept you," He repeats, and a light breeze swirls through the garage, flipping the pages of a book on the seat beside him. The flames of the candles grow higher with smoke rising from the picture, and then everything returns to normal as the candles settle. The door to the garage slams closed, spooking Matt and making him accidentally bump into Vicki, who catches him, being able to touch him.
"Did you just…" The Ghost girl stutters in shock, looking at her Brother and marvelling at the feeling of being able to touch something again.
"I felt that," The blond Donovan exclaims, staring at his Sister, and she touches his face in disbelief. "I feel that, too."
"It worked. Oh!" Vicki beams and Matt pulls her into a warm embrace, missing his older Sister. "I'm here, Matty!"
Bonnie stomps through the hallway in the dark at the high school, with Jeremy following her. "Did you talk to Anna or Alexis about this?" Bonnie demands, stopping and looking at her boyfriend.
"Alexis' family know a lot about the Other Side, Bonnie. Okay. I thought she might know something," Jeremy defends himself.
"About what? Why couldn't you come to me? I could have helped you, she's not the only Witch that you know!" She argues, growing angry at Alexis constantly butting into their relationship along with Anna.
"Somehow Vicki's been communicating with some super strong Witch," He explains, ignoring the dig at Alexis.
"If there's another Witch involved, don't you think you should have come to me before you went to Alexis?" The Bennett Witch reasons, shaking her head at him.
"I went to Alexis because she has a stronger connection to the Other Side, she's able to sense Ghosts," The young Gilbert boy argues, shocking her.
"You'd rather go to her than me?" Bonnie snaps, frowning that turns into a glare at the betrayal.
"That's not what I said," Jeremy rebuts. "She's just trying to help."
"I can't… I can't deal with this…" She groans, walking away.
"Bonnie!" He calls after her.
"Matt's trying to resurrect his dead Sister. I think I'll go deal with that instead," Bennett retorts, storming down the hallway, leaving Jeremy alone, but not for long as Alexis runs towards him.
"Jeremy! Jer! We've got a problem!" Alexis yells, running towards him and stopping next to him.
"What's wrong?" Jeremy asks her; seeing the fear growing on her face, he tenderly cups her face, not realising what he's doing.
Vicki tests her new ability to feel things and messes with the candles. "Ah, I can feel this. I can feel everything," She giggles, smiling brightly.
"The Witch didn't mention this part?" Matt questions, looking at her. He's glad she's happy but grows nervous as he bandages his hand.
"Makes sense. Our deal was that she'd help me do what I need to do," Vicki informs him, standing up and moving away, making him glance at her after hearing this new piece of information.
"What are you talking about? What deal, Vic?" He asks her, demanding some answers and moving towards her.
"Well, if I want to stay here, I have to help her restore the balance." She tells him, turning around to look at him with a wrench in her hands. "Klaus' Hybrids can't be allowed to survive."
"You can't kill Tyler, Vicki," The blond quarterback argues.
"Not Tyler, Matt. It's Elena who's the key to creating the Hybrids," The older Donovan corrects him.
"What? Vicki, no!" Matt yells, and she quickly acts, hitting him over the head with the wrench and knocking him to the floor.
"I'm sorry, Matty. But I want to stay," Vicki whimpers and throws the tool on the ground before leaving, needing to kill Elena.
At the bonfire, students enjoy themselves in the woods, and Elena steps over, watching as a guy does a keg stand with some students holding him and chanting 'drink', including the Doppelganger, who laughs. Stefan and Blake walk past, laughing as they enjoy themselves. Elena watches them, feeling bubbles of jealousy, and moves away, realising she's not getting his attention. She decides to do something drastic.
Meanwhile, Rebekah sits alone at the campfire, roasting marshmallows, when Damon strolls over, sitting next to her, trying to distract the blond Original. "What? No friends your own age?" Rebekah asks, looking at the older Salvatore Brother.
"Like you can talk," Damon retorts, making himself comfortable.
"Least she has friends," Edward mutters, walking past with some of his friends and earning a snicker from Rebekah and a glare from Damon.
"Is this supposed to be fun?" Rebekah questions, moving the stick with the marshmallow on the end, burned to bits. "I've been through 10 of these."
"No, you're just looking at it all wrong. This is a little rough on the outside," Damon tells her, taking the burned bit off and showing the gooey centre. "But the inside… Yum." He holds it out for her, and she eats it, looking at him as he sucks on his fingers.
"Mmm. It's good," Rebekah agrees, chewing.
"Yep," He grins, knowing Elena is watching them, and Sara and Beth join her, not having met the Doppelganger yet.
"What's that look?" Sara asks, making Elena sigh, a little too drunk to care who they are.
"What look?" Elena questions, not looking at them, leaning against a tree for support.
"He's got his flirt on, and you're jealous," Beth points out, smirking.
"I'm not jealous," She argues, shaking her head and making herself a little light-headed from all the alcohol.
"It's alright," Sara assures her.
"Be jealous by all means. I'm sure he will be thrilled," Beth tells her, giggling at the badly drunk girl.
"I'm not jealous, strangers," Elena grumbles, hanging her head as she tries to keep her head straight so she doesn't mess up the plan.
"Alright. That's our mistake," The twins reply, holding their hands up.
"Whatever. I'm out of here," Elena decides, stumbling away from the party.
"Should we tell, Stefan?" Beth questions, looking at her Sister.
"Probably," Sara agrees, walking away to find him and Blake.
Bonnie frantically calls Matt after her earlier argument with Jeremy and finally gets through to a hysterical Matt. "Matt! Matt, slow down. What happened?" Bonnie questions, frowning.
"I mess up, Bonnie," Matt repeats, holding his head in pain from the hit Vicki gave him.
"What? How? Where is she?" She demands, growing worried about what could happen next with Vicki on the loose.
In the school parking lot, a guy sits in his car and finishes smoking a joint when Vicki arrives and looks around at the area, missing her life from before. She picks up the joint from the ground and twirls it between her fingers, thinking of the best way to rid the world of Elena Gilbert.
Damon continues to distract Rebekah at the bonfire, giving her a marshmallow sandwich as he gives her the attention she seems to crave. "Can't believe you've never had one of these before," Damon comments, looking at her and watching out for Elena, but he doesn't see her anywhere.
"Well, I've been in a casket for 90 years," Rebekah retorts, accepting the sweet treat.
"That's no excuse," He teases her, watching her take a bite out of the s'more.
"Why are you being so nice to me?" She questions, eyeing the raven-haired Salvatore. "You hate me. You should be mean."
"Well, I could be mean if that's what you're into," The older Salvatore Brother says, giving her his signature smirk, trying to lull her into his web.
"You're distracting me. Why?" The blond Original demands, glaring at him.
"Just trying to be a good neighbour," Damon lies, but she can see through his act.
"There's no fair fight between us, Damon. Remember that," Rebekah warns him and grabs a stick from behind her and stabs him through the stomach before leaving, not bothered if anyone sees anything. Damon groans in pain as he sits and removes the twig with a grunt. He worries about the plan going awry and leaves it up to Elena for now.
Tyler later wakes up in his living room at home with Caroline sitting and watching him tentatively. "What the hell?" Tyler groans, sitting up and shaking his head. "How did I get home?"
"I brought you here," Caroline informs him, smiling softly at him, but it becomes a scowl. "You were being a d-bag."
"What is your problem today?" He asks her, glaring at his girlfriend as his emotions quickly turn from confusion to anger.
"My problem is you've been Sired. Do you even know what that means? It means that you put Klaus' needs first. He is your master now," She explains angrily, standing up in frustration.
"I'm not anyone's pet, Caroline. He doesn't control me," The new Hybrid argues, feeling protective of Klaus and knowing she's probably right.
"Well, something's got to be controlling you," The blond Vampire retorts, shaking her head in disappointment. "Because I don't know why else you'd be acting like the old you."
"The old me?" Tyler calms down and looks at his girlfriend.
"Yeah," Caroline sighs, calming down a little. "The old you. The pre-Werewolf you. You know, the obnoxious you that I would never be friends with." She quickly goes to leave, but he stops her, grabbing her wrist.
"Whoa!" He exclaims, pulling her back toward him. "Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. I'm sorry. I don't want to be that guy. I hated that guy."
"You're a Vampire now, Tyler. Everything about your personality is heightened. So you have to be careful," She reminds him, though she doesn't offer to help him. The new Hybrid thinks about what Rebekah mentioned yesterday about the new Pack in town and wonders about talking to them for help.
"I will. I promise. Just… Don't hate me. Everything I like about me is you," The Lockwood boy assures her, pulling his girlfriend into a loving kiss.
At the high school, Elena ventures away from the bonfire party and finds herself at the football field, lying on the bleachers and looking at the sky. Sara and Beth let Stefan know about Elena wandering off, so he reluctantly leaves Blake at the party to follow the drunk Doppelganger. "I used to know every constellation. How did I forget them all?" Elena slurs, waving her arm around.
"You're drunk. You need to go home," Stefan orders her, wanting to get back to the party and Blake, not wanting to deal with a drunk Elena.
"Fine," She sighs, reaching her unsteady feet and standing on the bleachers. "Uhh. Let me find my car."
"You're joking, right?" He questions, raising an eyebrow at her drunken behaviour as he watches her swaying on her feet.
"Uh-oh. It's the fun police. I though that Ripper Stefan was supposed to be the life of the party," The Doppelganger groans, moving towards the railing.
"Well, all right, I'm driving you home. Come on," The younger Salvatore Brother sighs, moving towards the bleachers to take her home. She hops over the railing and lets go, leaning away from the fence, playing the drunken fool well. "What are you, 5? Get down!"
"Why? Are you afraid that I'm going to-," Elena says, almost falling as she loses her footing. "Oh. Ha. That was close. Klaus would not be happy with you."
"You're hilarious," Stefan scoffs, shaking his head at her childish behaviour.
"Look, Stefan, no hands," She jokes, removing her hands and almost falling again, but he doesn't find it amusing anymore as she laughs and finally loses her footing, making her scream. Stefan speeds around the bleachers and catches her before she hits the ground. "I knew you'd catch me," Elena mutters, looking into his eyes, but it doesn't feel the same anymore for one of them. Stefan lets her go, ensuring she's more sure-footed, when Alaric springs from nowhere behind him and shoots the Vampire in the back with a few darks. Stefan falls to the ground unconscious as the vervain courses through his veins, and Alaric looks at Elena with concern.
"You okay?" Alaric asks her, seeing she's still a little drunk, though the fall seems to have sobered her up a little.
"Yeah. I'm… fine," Elena replies, sighing, her head fuzzy from the fall and the drinking.
"You look, uh, not sober," He comments, watching how unsteady she is.
"The plan worked. That's all that matters. Let's just get him out of here," The young brunette retorts, slurring words a little.
Alaric and Elena quickly carry Stefan into the school parking lot, getting to the teacher's car, and Elena opens the trunk, letting Alaric put Stefan inside. The Doppelganger quickly enters the front of the vehicle, unaware of Vicki watching them, smoking the joint she found and looking at the ground, blowing on it.
In an empty classroom, Matt and Bonnie talk about the one problem they have in common: the Ghost of Vicki. "I'm so sorry. I didn't think she'd do something like this. I trusted her," Matt apologises, pacing the room.
"You need to tell me exactly what you did to let Vicki out. So I know exactly how to send her back," Bonnie snaps at him, grabbing her Grimoire and sitting on the floor angrily.
At the same time, Alaric closes the trunk and walks to the driver's side, accidentally knocking a gas can on the ground. "I see all the geniuses came out to the bonfire tonight," Alaric mutters, looking around. Vicki throws the lit joint onto the ground, setting the gas on the ground, a light that trails towards the car. Alaric's vehicle catches fire with Elena inside and Stefan still unconscious in the back. Alaric tries to unlock the door, but it won't budge. "Elena! Elena! Open the door!" Elena tries to open her side in a rush, but it won't open as if it is stuck.
"I can't! It won't open!" Elena shouts, and Vicki appears in the car beside her, though the Doppelganger can't see her.
"I'm sorry, Elena," Vicki says, though there is no remorse in her voice. Alaric goes to another car, looks in the trunk, and finds a lacrosse stick. He uses it to break the door, but it still doesn't work at freeing the trapped Doppelganger. Elena keeps trying to break the window from inside with her feet, but she's not strong enough, and the fire around her grows more intense.
Matt lights a candle, following Bonnie's instructions, as the Witch scans her Grimoire for the right spell. "I found a spell that can block whatever Magic is helping Vicki," She explains.
"What do I do?" Matt asks, joining her on the floor.
"Give me your hand," Bonnie demands, and he offers his injured hand, but she grabs his other one and cuts his palm, making him wince in pain.
Elena coughs at the thick smoke, making breathing harder, and she turns her head, looking at Stefan. "Stefan!" She shouts, waking him up as she moves towards the trunk and almost collapses. Stefan regains consciousness and breaks the trunk lock with his feet, freeing them quickly. While Bonnie begins performing the spell, Elena reaches Stefan and tries to get out, but Vicki tries catching the Doppelganger, but with the spell being cast, her hold is weakening.
Vicki appears in the classroom with Bonnie and Matt, seeing them casting the spell. "What is she doing?" Vicki demands, looking at her Brother with betrayal.
"Fixing my mistake," Matt replies, angry and upset at his Sister, who betrayed him first with her lies and manipulation.
"Make her stop," She pleads as she stands there, knowing she can't do anything to stop them.
"Bonnie…" He pleads with the Bennett Witch.
"The spell is working, Matt. She's still here because of you," Bonnie tells him and continues to cast the spell. The siblings look at each other for their final goodbye.
"Matt, please," Vicki begs him, shaking her head on the verge of tears.
"I can't let you hurt anyone, Vicki," Matt argues regretfully.
"I won't. I'll stop. Just, please, don't make me go," Vicki pleads with him, tears running down her face.
"I have to. This is wrong. You shouldn't be here," Matt argues, shaking his head and fighting the tears.
"I'm sorry. I just didn't want to be alone anymore," The older Donovan cries, hanging her head with tears falling onto the floor.
"Neither did I. But I have to let you go," The blond Donovan weeps as Bonnie casts the spell. "Goodbye, Vicki," With this said, she disappears, leaving him alone again. "She's gone."
Alaric helps Elena out of the car, leaving Stefan inside, weak from the vervain. "Hurry up before it blows."
"Wait! Wait, wait, wait!" Elena shouts, grabbing Stefan, but he's too heavy. Luckily, help comes in the form of Blake, who pushes the Doppelganger aside and reaches into the car, pulling Stefan out of the burning vehicle.
"Run!" Blake shouts, carrying Stefan away from the car with Alaric and Elena behind her as the car explodes.
Later, Elena sits in Damon's room. She checks on her cheek, which has a minor burn when he comes into the room with a tube of cream. "Give it to me. I can do it," Elena tells him, holding her hand out.
"No, let me," Damon argues, moving it away.
"Damon, come on," She sighs, having had enough of his games with the headache forming from too much drinking.
"Elena, you almost got barbecued. The least I can do is apply first aid," He replies, applying the cream on her wound using a swab.
"You played your part of the plan really well tonight," The brunette girl comments, looking at him.
"Oh, yeah?" The arrogant Vampire questions, suppressing a smirk.
"You had Rebekah drooling all over you and your marshmallows," Elena teases him, though it hurts a little.
"Yeah, before she skewered me. I thought you were too drunk to notice," Damon remarks, looking at her.
"I was faking most of it," She lies.
"So was I," He tells her, looking at each other and sharing a ruined moment when Alaric arrives.
"Ready to get going, Elena?" Alaric asks her, glancing at the two.
"Great work tonight, Ric. Sorry about the car, man. Bummer," The older Salvatore Brother jokes a little, annoying the history teacher, and Elena looks at Damon before leaving with Alaric.
Caroline gets up from the couch, putting on her dress as Tyler watches her naked, putting a blanket around his waist, glad his Mum isn't home. "You're always running out on me," Tyler comments.
"You have to earn the overnighter," Caroline retorts, glancing at him over her shoulder as she fastens her dress straps.
"I consider that a challenge," He grins, making her laugh, and she puts on her jacket before leaving.
"Bye," She smiles, walking towards him sweetly.
"Bye," The young Hybrid smiles back, and they quickly kiss before she leaves the living room. She is replaced promptly by Rebekah behind him, standing in the doorway. "What are you doing here?" He asks, turning around to see her.
"I have something for you," Rebekah informs him, smirking.
"What?" Tyler asks, frowning, unsure how he feels about her being here alone with him.
"A little present," She replies, leaving before reappearing with a girl bleeding from her neck.
"You should go," He warns her, feeling the bloodlust becoming unbearable and thinking about what he and Caroline discussed earlier.
"You sure?" The blond Original questions, tilting her head. "I think my Brother would want his Hybrid to indulge in everything life has to offer." She teasingly bites into the girl's wrist, and Tyler rushes to the girl, biting into her neck, overcome with bloodlust.
Maddox sits with a Grimoire on a lap as he reads from it, not knowing that Katherine is beginning to stir from her place. Greta walks into the crypt, seeing the Vampiric Doppelganger moving, and she quickly places Katherine under a sleeping spell. "You should be more careful, Maddox," Greta warns him, lighting the candles around the tomb, and Maddox ignores him, too busy with the spells to protect the crypt from those who wish to awaken the ancient Vampire from his slumber. "You need to make sure these wards are strong enough from the Bennett Witch and her Scooby Gang getting their hands on him." Her phone rings, and she quickly answers, seeing it's her little Brother. "Hey, Luka, what's wrong?"
"I just watched one of Klaus' future Hybrids rescue Stefan from the back of a burning car. Guess who was involved?" Luke replies, walking down the street to the McKnight apartments.
"The Doppelganger…" She sighs, shaking her head. "Is she alive and safe?"
"Yeah. But I think someone is out to kill her to stop Klaus. I texted Lorilei. She needs a protection spell put on Elena," He informs her. "And I'm not strong enough to do it yet."
"Ask Edward or Alexis. I'm with Maddox," The older Martin explains, groaning at the situation.
"Well, Alexis is busy with Jeremy probably," The young Warlock ponders, reaching the bookshop to find Edward kissing a boy, leaning against the door. "I found Edward, but it seems he's busy too."
"Whatever he's doing, stop him. We need to make sure it's done," Greta reminds him, and Luka sighs, walking up to them after hanging up on his Sister.
"Edward, I need your help with something," Luka informs him, making the couple pull away from each other and turn to look at the newcomer.
"Go away," Edward snaps, but Luka doesn't budge.
"It's important. It's for Lorilei," He explains, not going into detail, but it grabs the younger Warlock's attention.
"Lei? What does she want?" The McKnight boy asks, and Luka smiles, showing him the text.
Elena and Alaric go to leave, but she stops, looking at the man who has been living with her since her aunt and Brother left them. "It's okay if you want to be friends with Damon again," Elena assures him, knowing their friendship was the only thing keeping both of them sane over the summer.
"I don't," Alaric argues, not looking at her.
"I think he kind of misses you," She reasons with a playful shrug, and Stefan steps into the living room.
"Well, you got me tonight. Definitely wasn't expecting that," Stefan remarks, looking at the history teacher.
"That was the point," Alaric retorts stiffly, not noticing the bag in his hand.
"Yeah. You know, you can hate it all you want, but Elena needs me. I'll protect her for now. I think you're both better off having me around," He assures the Vampire Hunter, and they go toward the door. "Elena, wait. You could have let me die in that fire tonight. Why didn't you?"
"Because I still have hope," Elena tells him honestly.
"After everything I've done, you… You still think I'll be able to find my supposed lost humanity again." The Vampire remarks, smirking at her.
"Yes, I do. I know who you really are better than anyone, Stefan. And I'm not giving up," She promises him, not seeing how naive she's being.
"Elena, do you have any idea how pathetic that makes you?" Stefan questions, shaking his head.
"No, Stefan, it makes me strong," The Doppelganger argues, driving two stakes through his body with the sleeve. She takes it off, giving it to Alaric. He looks at Stefan with a smile before closing the door.
"That looks like it hurts," Blake remarks, stepping into the room and walking over to Stefan, helping him sit up. "Glad you're moving out?"
"Definitely," Stefan sighs as she pulls them out, earning gasps of pain.
Jeremy walks into his bedroom back at the McKnight house, leaving a voicemail for Bonnie. "Bonnie, come on. Stop dodging my calls. Don't you think we should at least talk about this?" He sits on his bed with a sigh when Anna appears before him.
"I shouldn't be here," Anna tells him, not understanding why she's here when he hasn't thought about her all day.
"No kidding," He retorts, roughly shaking his head and rubbing his face.
"No, I mean, I shouldn't be here, Jeremy. Why are you thinking about me when you're calling her?" She asks, looking at him.
"I didn't think I was," The young Gilbert boy argues, unsure what he was thinking. "Look, I don't know. Okay. I don't know what I'm doing, Anna. The problem is I don't think I was thinking about you, sorry."
"I see," The dead Vampire girl sighs, sitting beside him on the bed. "What were you thinking about?"
"I don't know," Jeremy confesses, but a certain blond girl enters his head. "What are we going to do?" Anna doesn't answer and just raises her hand; he lifts him, too, touching it and looking at her in surprise, taking her hand. "Do you… feel this?"
"What's going on? I can feel you. How can I feel you?" Anna exclaims, looking at their touching hands in shock.
Damon waltzes around the living room, making himself a drink, when there's a smashing sound, and he turns around to see a cracked vase on the floor. "Keep it up, Stefan," Damon calls into the empty and quiet house and picks up the pieces when somebody hits him over the head hard from behind, making him fall to the floor and reveal the attacker, Mason.
"This is going to be fun…"
