Ch 61: Resurrection is two parts to the Key
"What a long day! Sorry, you have to stay late with me, Eri.", Egon apologized to the girl as he locked up the facility with Izuku for the night.
"It's okay, Egon. I like being here and with you.", Eri told him with a smile as she sat in Izuku's arms.
"Professor! Professor!", the voice of Chopper yelled from behind.
Turning around they saw the reindeer, in his Heavy Point, running towards them with something in his arms and a wreck of a man trying to keep pace with him. The man was wearing a business suit that had been wrinkled and torn in several places, with a few bleeding cuts along his face and body. His eyes were wide and wild, filled with tears and his breath carried anxiety.
"Chopper? I thought you went home already?", Izuku asked him.
"We need help!", Chopper exclaimed feverishly while running towards Egon.
"Help with what-OH MY GODS! What the hell happened!?", Egon yells as he looks down at the animal's arms.
In the animal's arms was a little girl no older than Eri herself, but she was broken. Her eyes opened, and glazed over, her body clearly with broken bones and an arm that was barely still attached, her mouth covered in blood. Seeing this, Izuku quickly covered Eri's eyes and turned away from them in order to not puke.
"There's no time!", Chopper exclaimed.
So Egon quickly unlocked the door and let everyone inside as they all ran to the medical wing that had been moved to the Chemical Division. Once there, Chopper placed the girl on the table and began to grab machines and different medical instruments and medicine.
Once Egon got the machines hooked up and Chopper sloppily brought everything closer, he asked him, "Okay Chopper, now tell me what's going on!"
"I was walking back home when I saw a car accident and when I got close I saw that man clutching his daughter outside of the car! She wasn't moving and really injured! The nearest hospital is too far away! We have to help her!", Chopper explained in a hurry as the man, the girl's father, stood by the side of the examination table and held her good arm.
Egon gained his composure from the initial shock and took a closer look at the girl. In all the time she was here, she hadn't moved, spoke, or even blinked. He checked her pulse, heartbeat, and breath. Then slowly turned to Chopper and told him, "Chopper…she's dead."
His eyes went wide and he rapidly barked at him in a tizzy, "What?! Then get the defibrillator, Narcan, and begin chest compressions!"
"Chopper!", Egon yelled as he clapped the reindeer's face between his hands, making him go silent as he said in a somber tone, "She's gone. There is nothing we can do."
Chopper pulled away, shook his head, and argued back, "But there has to be! We're making leaps and bounds in technology and medicine here. I should know! I've nearly found a cure for cancer!"
"We can't cure death, Chopper. I'm sorry, it's out of the question.", Izuku jumped in, taking Chopper's hand, and assuring him of the facts.
Making Chopper lean his head down and repressed the urge to cry, while the man mourned his daughter. Even Egon and Izuku shed a few tears for the girl. So Egon took a white medical sheet and draped it over her body while closing her dead eyes.
"Not everything is out of the question.", a voice said out of nowhere, causing everyone to jump as they turned to see an old scientist standing at the open doorway.
"Dr. Wily?", all three of them said at the same time.
"What are you doing here?", Izuku inquired.
"Were you still in the building?", Egon questioned.
Wily sighs and tells him, "I lost track of time. But enough of that. I have the key to this predicament."
"This isn't a missing limb or a disease. She's dead!", Egon exclaimed, getting tired of having to explain death.
"Not for long.", he said as he pulled out a Singularity Soul Fragment that was colored black with a white glowing bone-shaped pattern in the center.
"Is that?", Chopper said in surprise.
Upon seeing the fragment, Egon's face went pale, and then red with anger as he yelled at him, "Dr. Wily...what is wrong with you!? I told you and everyone else to get rid of those Splinters!"
But Wily ground his teeth and narrowed his eyes and he yelled back at the man with a convicting finger, "You're a fool, Professor Egon! Research is about studying and learning about all avenues! No matter what it is!"
Taken aback at first by his outburst, Egon centered himself and argued back, "There should be common sense in discovery and creation! Otherwise, it's madness!"
"The world is our oyster! We should find out and use everything we can no matter the power involved!", Wily argues again.
Egon grabs the fragment and waving it near the man's face, exclaims, "Power like this should never be in the hands of any mere mortal! It's not about if you can do it, but should you even try!"
"PLEASE!", the father of the dead child yells in a desperate plea.
Egon looks down at the fragment in his hands, back to the girl and her father, and back at the fragment once more. His morals and emotions fought against one another. He has the power to save an innocent person in his hands. If he had this power when his parents died, would he still use it despite all the what-ifs? He clutched the Fragment in his hand and made his decision.
"This time, and this time only.", he said firmly while pointing his finger to Wily who only smiled wryly at him. Activating the Fragment in his hand he said to himself, "Please work."
He then raised the Fragment over his head and brought it down on the girl's body! A glow came upon her broken form and in seconds all of her wounds, injuries, and blood stains disappeared like nothing. Chopper quickly rushed around as his body was repaired and hooked her up to several of the vital machines. Once turned on the machines began to beep, much to the animal's surprise.
"Heartbeat is back.", he announced as he looked to the next monitor. "Pulse is back!", he exclaimed as he looked at the last one, "BRAIN WAVE ACTIVITY!", he yelled in surprise and relief.
The girl stirred and coughed a few times before weakly opening his eyes and asking, "D-Daddy?"
The girl's father sobbed in happiness and holding her in his arms he assured her, "Yes! Yes, my Suki! Daddy is here!"
"It worked…it really really worked.", Izuku said in disbelief.
"We raised the dead.", Chopper, now in his Brain Point, said as he realized the gravity of the situation.
"By the gods, what have we done?", Egon asked himself as he leaned against a wall, hand over his mouth in a form of shock and sickness.
