Weiss was currently inside one of Beacons training rooms with Winter behind her, giving her instructions on summoning. It's been a few weeks since the Dance now and the Vytal Tournament was in progress. Weiss has been throwing herself into studying and training for it.
She glared at her spinning glyph on the floor, trying to make a Grimm come from it. An Arma Gigas to be exact. The Grimm she had to defeat in order to even be here right now. Though no matter how much she tried, the summoning just never worked.
"You have to imagine it better, Weiss. What it looks and feels like." Winter instructed from behind.
Weiss closed her eyes and took a deep breath then began to think about the Arma Gigas. They were big, strong, and wielded a sword. A true knight to stand between her and the enemy.
Jaune appeared in her mind.
"No, no! Not him." Weiss chastised herself and her glyphs began to fluctuate as she focused on Jaune instead of an Arma Gigas.
"A Grimm but one under my command. One that will... Will..." Her thoughts faltered as images of Jaune taking Pyrrha's hand invaded her headspace. The grip on her rapier tightened and she let out an angry groan, standing up. The glyphs dissipated and she glared at the ground.
This happened all the time these days. Jaune and Pyrrha continued to grow closer while she was stuck watching. She tries to keep herself busy or think about something else, but whenever she begins thinking of... Him, she just can't stop!
"You're distracted." Winter said and Weiss turned to look at her sister, their frustrated expression being replaced by one of slight embarrassment with her stance rigid.
"I- Sister... I'm sorry, it's just..." Weiss looks away and sighs. "It's just me being foolish." She says and relaxes a bit.
Winter takes a few steps towards her, hands clasped behind her back. "The Schnee's glyphs are able to summon our defeated foes. Once the semblance is unlocked, so is that power. All it takes is a bit of training, which you've had plenty of at this point. The fact that you're still having so much trouble with it means your head's not in the right place."
Weiss awkwardly flinches at that and looks up nervously to see her sister staring at her. "It's... Well..." She mumbled, unable to get the proper words out.
Winter closed her eyes and sighed, relaxing her stance by lowering her arms. "Weiss, if there's something you need to talk about, I'm your sister as well as your instructor. I'm all ears. Especially if it has to do with father."
Weiss was silent for a few moments, thinking of what to say. Part of her wanted to dismiss the notion of speaking. Winter likely assumed it was something to do with their family. But...
Taking a deep breath, Weiss steeled herself. "Winter... Have you ever dated a man?"
Weiss could see her sisters eyes widen. Their expression one of shock, though only for a moment. She collected herself quickly and frowned. "Is that what this is about? Is some boy giving you trouble?" She asked rather angry.
Weiss lifted her hands up and shook her head. "No, no-" she stopped mid-way and narrowed her eyes, looking over to the side as she thought. "Well..." Jaune did constantly ask her out once a week for a couple months, causing her a fair amount of irritation... But that was a whole can of worms that she didn't think would help the situation.
When she looked back at her Sister, they seemed ready to take the warpath. "No! I mean it, no! No boy is bothering me, okay?" She said and could see Winter's expression and demeanor relax.
Winter took a breath, seeming to accept the answer. "I see. Then this would be about...?"
Weiss took a moment to collect her thoughts and let out a light huff, looking at the ground as she spoke. "Well... There was this guy who liked me." She wasn't sure how her sister would react to a man having feelings of her or vise versa... But hopefully she can help.
"But I constantly pushed him away." Weiss felt her heart grow heavy once again as she spoke. "I thought he was just after my money and name like all the other suitors from Atlas... But he wasn't. His feelings were genuine."
Weiss' head slumped down. "Now he's moved on from me and began connecting with another woman and I don't know what to do." She shrugged her shoulders. "The worst part is I don't even know how much I like him. I never gave him a chance and now I won't ever get the chance to understand how I feel about him. It just wouldn't be fair of me to get in the way of his budding relationship due to my own uncertain feelings."
She looked up at her sister now, frowning with a sad expression. "What if I just hurt him more?"
Her sister listened to it all silently. Weiss wasn't entirely sure what she was thinking. Hopefully she wasn't upset with her for these silly feelings.
Winter took a deep breath. "Yes." she responded.
Weiss looked confused. "Yes? Yes what?"
"Yes, I've dated a man before." She clarified and Weiss' eyes widened. She did ask that question, though if she was honest she didn't expect that answer. She doesn't remember her sister dating anyone.
Winter apparently saw her confusion and continued to explain. "Perhaps 'date' is the wrong word. We attended plenty of balls when I was younger, before you were old enough to." She said and looked off to the side, her expression relaxed as she seemed to reminisce. "I was fourteen. He was about my age, I think a little older. But we got along well enough and he was rather handsome. Even if he was after the schnee name and fortune I thought- 'Well, he's not so bad. Maybe he actually likes me too.' Or something along those lines."
Weiss listened to her sisters every word. She's never heard of this before and was very interested.
"Then one day he came to me in private to talk." Winter continued and her expression dropped a little. "He confessed that the only reason he even began speaking to me was because his parents told him to. That even our father was in on it. They wanted to secure our relationship and attempt to push marriage early."
Weiss let out a slight gasp. "I, uhm... Sorry he turned out to be so..."
Winter interrupted her. "He was fine. I was the problem."
That confused Weiss and her feelings went from pity to confusion. "Huh?"
Her sister sighed and looked down. "When he told me that I got so upset. I even began to cry. I felt betrayed... That was my lowest point. Deep down, I hoped that he truly liked me. To make a long story short... I slapped him, stormed out, then after that final straw I joined the military... We never spoke again. I heard he ended up meeting someone else and started a family a few years later."
There was silence after that and Weiss was still confused. "I... I don't understand. How were you the problem? He was the one who hurt you."
Winter looked up and locked eyes with her. "Because I regret my decision back then." She said and Weiss' eyes widened.
"Not slapping him or storming out. I was emotional and things happen. Joining the military was also the best decision I made." She sighed. "What I regret is not making up with him. It wasn't him who created some cruel plot to get my fortune or under my skirt. He was under the same circumstances as myself, some teenager under his parents thumb. He even defied them and told me the truth. Yet all I did was lash out and put it all on him."
Weiss was silent. She didn't quite know what to say to that. Her heart certainly went to her sister.
Winter then smiled. "You don't have to feel so upset for me. I've moved passed this a long time ago. Sure, I think back on it during rare moments but it's not as if I'm suffering." She assured her and Weiss nodded.
"Anyway, the moral of the story is- 'It's never too late.'" Weiss' eyes widened and before she could speak further, Winter continued. "If you have feelings for this man, even if you're not completely sure what they are, don't give up so easily." Her sisters eyes narrowed, staring into her own confidently. "You dig in your heels, you don't give up, and you put everything into getting what you desire."
Weiss took a long breath at that, feeling rejuvenated from her sisters powerful words.
"Tell me, Weiss. Did this man who you pushed away give up after only one attempt?"
Weiss blinked and then shook her head. "No. He was actually rather persistent." She wasn't sure how Winter knew to ask that. Perhaps her earlier wording of Jaune gave her a hint.
Winter nodded. "Right. Then shouldn't you respond in kind? At the very least, he needs to understand you're still an option for him." She said and smiled. "As for this other woman he's been speaking to, whoever they may be I'm sure they're no match for-"
"It's Pyrrha Nikos." Weiss clarified and Winter stopped short and her eyes widened.
There was a short silence before Winter brought her fist to her lips in a thoughtful expression, not making eye contact with Weiss. "Oh..." She said and Weiss saw her sister have her first uncertain expression this entire conversation.
That took the wind out of Weiss' sails a bit. Apparently even her sister didn't think she stood a chance against Pyrrha of all people.
Winter flinched and her arm went back to her side. "R- regardless. This might be a battle, but it's no arena. She may be the 'Invincible Girl', but that's only in a fight. This is a completely different stage. One where I do believe you have a bit more experience in, even if those experiences were negative."
Weiss smiled. Despite her sisters earlier fumble, that was true enough. Throughout her experiences with suitors in Atlas and her time in Beacon, she's slowly learned good intentions from bad ones. Using those, she could even out do the Champion herself. No offense to Pyrrha, but her sister was correct. This isn't the kind of battle she can just ignore.
"Okay." Weiss said with a confident smile. "I won't give up and if nothing happens between us, it won't be because of my own inaction."
Winter nodded. "Very good." She said and took a deep breath. "Now then. Since I'm sure you're still thinking too much to do semblance training, you'll practice physique."
"Huh?" Weiss mumbled.
"I want one hundred laps around this arena." Winter said. "Aura and Semblances are great, but they don't boost your stamina. Get moving. It's always been your weaker area."
"Yes, sister..." Weiss sighed and started to jog around the arena. Despite the training, Weiss had a smile on her face for now. She still had the Vytal Tournament to get through, but after that the rest of the school year had no major events. She will be able to approach Jaune and put her hat back in his ring so to speak.
Well, here's ch3. I really am just sort of going with the flow on this one. It apparently turned into a Jaune/Weiss fic despite Jaune having zero speaking lines in it lol
It's weird and fun to write if nothing else.
I feel like I wrote Winter to be a little OOC. But I wanted her to give some big sis advice to Weiss. The only way for her to do that is to have experience in the subject they're talking about.
