Here it is, the sixteenth full chapter of Miraculous Quirks released earlier than I expected as I have underestimated my recent productivity and level of insomnia and as such have gotten this done ahead of schedule so I can release it early. After the last chapter I am sure y'all know what is coming now so there really is no need to say anything more here and as there are no questions to respond to here and no guest reviews to answer I will leave this note here which means that it is time to sit back, relax, and enjoy the 16th full chapter of Miraculous Quirks.

Disclaimer: I do not own either of these great works of fiction.

Chapter 16: Begin the Sports Festival!

Adrien and Marinette stood at the far end of the waiting room reserved for Class 1-A before the opening of the Sports Festival for first years in their PE kit as that was what everyone had to wear for the Sports Festival to ensure it was fair due to the Hero Course's costumes having certain advantages. It was so strict that both Marinette and Adrien had been ordered to hand over their Miraculouses, though only a select few knew that was the name for the special jewelry that they wore was called, so that they didn't use them either.

While Adrien seemed fine with handing his ring over, apparently Plagg and Tikki were in a special box with Mage, some of the other kwamis, and a few other Guardians were around to watch the Sports Festival, so they knew that their kwamis were near, Marinette had been a little more hesitant to part with her Miraculous. It wasn't that she minded handing over her Miraculous, she knew the rules and respected them, especially because of the boost her costume gave her, it was more that she'd grown accustomed to having it in so taking it out was a bit weird.

Thankfully, she'd prepared for that after she'd been told she would have to remove it and now wore a standard piercing in her navel that was specially made out of tungsten to at least have the feel that something was there. She did note that Adrien had tied a bit of work out tape around his right ring finger, so he too seemed to feel the need to have something there as well. That was good, it would help them feel normal as they got ready for the Sports Festival.

The three-day event, held at a special stadium on the vast U.A. campus they hadn't seen before, with beefed up security this year, always began with the first years and this year the buzz about them was greater than usual. Most years it was the third-year students who drew the biggest crowds as they were the best but this year it was the first years who had the attention and for good reason.

Not only did they have the son of the number 2 hero in their class, but they had the first ever class of first years to face a real villain attack almost as soon as they had started at U.A. Naturally that had led to a lot of intrigue. Add in that All Might was now a teacher and there were high expectations for the competition.

Marinette expected no less. Over the last 2 weeks, all of them had been training hard either at school, home, or wherever they liked to train to get ready for the Sports Festival. For the French duo that was at U.A for the most part as that was where most of their friends were so it made the most sense to train there. There were facilities available to them where they lived that were on par with U.A. but they had preferred the school's.

Both Adrien and Marinette had trained hard, individually and with each other and friends, over the last two weeks to be in peak shape both physically and with their Quirks so that they could take on the Sports Festival and do their best in it. It was what they were all aiming for, and everyone was ready for it.

At the moment, all the class but Iida had gathered in the waiting room and were either chatting with each other about the upcoming events or quietly getting psyched for it. Neither of them needed to talk, they were ready for this as the Sports Festival was nothing compared to the real world, so they kept quiet as they waited for the festival to start.

"Attention Class 1-A." Iida said coming into the room with his usual loud determination and in full class rep mode. "Get ready, we are heading out soon."

"Looks like it's time bugaboo." Adrien said with a grin as he got off the wall.

"Not yet." Marinette said noticing one of their class using the moment to approach another. "It seems you were right that he'd make his move before the start of the Festival though it is right at the last minute it seems."

Adrien had told Marinette about what he noticed that day at lunch two weeks prior. He knew that Todoroki was listening to them and their discussion about Midoriya and All Might, and it seemed like now, right before the start, the half and half Quirk user was going to confront the green haired boy in front of the whole class.

"Midoriya." Todoroki said seriously and getting everyone's attention.

"Hey Todoroki." Midoriya responded clearly a little nervous at having the top combat student in their class confronting him. "What's up?"

"From an objective standpoint it's clear that I'm better than you." Todoroki said simply without emotion.

"True." Midoriya said, no one could lie with that assessment though a few looked nervous or in Bakugo's case pissed at that. "It's pretty obvious which of us has more Quirk control right now."

"But you have All Might in your corner." Todoroki said causing those who were unaware of the interest All Might had taken in Midoriya to gasp but Todoroki didn't seem to care about anyone else in the room. "So, I have to beat you."

"Woah what's with all these declarations of war." Kaminari said to break the awkward silence that Todoroki's words had briefly caused amongst the class. "First there was that General Studies student, then Class 1-B and now Todoroki."

"Yeah come on man." Kirishima said getting up and putting a hand on Todoroki's shoulder. "Lighten up, we're here to have fun and compete."

"No, we're here to win and become heroes, not be friends." Todoroki said dismissively as he shrugged off Kirishima's hand. "Don't you forget that. This isn't a team thing, it's individual."

Todoroki began to walk to the exit to head out as everyone was stunned at his actions. He'd singled out Midoriya as his rival, marking him as a legit threat and thus one of the best in the class. That was not going to be good, either for them or the others as it would fuel them to beat both boys.

"You're right Todoroki." Midoriya said stopping the boy in his tracks as he turned and they locked gazes, Midoriya looking nervous but certain as they spoke. "You are probably the best, it's why you got into U.A. so easily, but we're all here to stand out, to do our best, and I'm no exception. I am here to win this so I'm going to be coming for you too Todoroki, we all will."

Todoroki just grunted at that and headed out of the room as the other all seemed to take Midoriya's words to heart before getting up and making their way to the entrance tunnel they were set to enter from. The gauntlet had been laid down and they were all ready for it.

"Looks like this will be interesting." Adrien said with a grin as they headed out and walked to the tunnel, Present Mic's voice booming out of speakers as he opened the Sports Festival and the crowd cheered for the start of the Festival. "All these declarations, should make this even more fun."

"That it will be kitty." Marinette said with a small smile. "It's time we showed what we can really do. No holding back, even against each other when we have to compete. The best student wins this, regardless."

"Agreed, it's every cool cat for themselves." Adrien said as they reached the waiting point. "The clever cat gets the mouse after all."

"Please no puns." Marinette said. "I was just getting used to not hearing them."

"No pro-meow-sises." Adrien said with a grin that Marinette groaned at how bad that one was though at least it was a sign that Adrien was getting more comfortable with their situation. "M'lady."

"For that I'm going to beat you for sure in the first event." Marinette said. "Watch it kitty, this bug won't get squashed."

"Whatever you say." Adrien said lightly in French as he brushed the back of her hand with his. "I know you still get a little weak with me my love."

Marinette proved that by blushing and tripping over her feet. Even after knowing who Adrien was, knowing that her love was reciprocated, and finally dating him, he could still have this effect if he tried to do so. He caught her around the waist and helped her up before she caused a scene which only caused her blush to deepen but a few of their class saw and were confused at the sudden change in Dupain-Cheng's usually confident behavior. That confusion didn't last long though as the time came for them to enter.

"It's time for the U.A. Sports Festival!" Present Mic said loudly and enthusiastically as they reached the end of the tunnel and towards the pitch. "It's time for our potential heroes to show what they have as they compete to show us what they can do and try to achieve worldwide fame. First up, you already know them from the USJ incident where they fought actual villains; it's Class 1-A!"

The crowd cheered as they walked out, and the vastness hit them. Even Marinette and Adrien were taken aback by the sheer size of the stadium and the number of people that were packed into it. They knew how large the Stade de France was and that it paled in comparison to some of the American college football stadiums they'd heard about, but this put even those stadiums to shame. There had to be at least 150,000 people packed into it screaming and cheering for them.

"I didn't realize that there'd be this many people." Izuku said nervously. "It never looked this big on TV."

"Let's just hope we can give our best performances with all these eyes watching us." Iida said. "But it is preparation for becoming a hero so we must get used to this level of attention."

"True." Izuku said.

"How are you feeling about this?" Kirishima asked Bakugo as they walked.

"I don't care." The perpetually angry boy grunted. "I'm still going to win this."

"They haven't been getting nearly as much screen time." Present Mic said interrupting any chatter going on as he continued his introductions. "But this next group has just as much talent, it's the Hero Course's Class 1-B!"

They all turned to see the 20 students in Class 1-B walking out looking just as serious, though a few, mainly the silver haired guy that had challenged them and some bland looking blonde dude, threw glances or glares their way. It was clear that they were there to upstage 1-A and prove which class was better, not that Class 1-A cared.

"Next up it's the General Studies Classes C, D, and E!" Present Mic said enthusiastically as the two General Studies classes walked out, the purple haired guy who had issued the initial challenge leading the way. "And Support Classes F, G, and H!"

At this the Support Course students walked out their entrances and joined the throngs. Marinette did look over to them as there was a chance that the way they did the rankings after the first event that there would be more spaces than Hero Course students so there was a chance that the Support Course might have someone who could advance.

However, at a glance none stood out with the possible exception of a strange girl with steampunk style goggles over her eyes, a weird harness strapped with gear around her body that inadvertently pushed up a deceptively large bust that had Mineta staring, and pink dreadlocks. She was also grinning as she walked and Marinette quickly deduced that she was likely either the best, most enthusiastic, or most prolific Support Course student so the one who'd likely do the best of them.

"And lastly, the Business Course classes I, J and K." Present Mic said interrupting any thoughts again as the last group joined them, and they all made their way to the center of the stadium where a clay or brick rectangle was set up. "Give it up for all the U.A. First Years!"

The crowd cheered as all 11 class, a total of 222 students, reached the center of the arena and faced a small, raised platform at the midpoint on one side, the one where Present Mic's announcer's box was. On the platform was a striking, dark haired, woman in a skin tight outfit that left nothing to the imagination and very much showed off her large assets. With a flick of her wrist, she whipped a small flogger style whip that had to be a sex toy as the broken pair of handcuffs she wore as bracelets clinked with the action.

"Listen up." The R-rated Hero Midnight who was serving as the chief umpire for the first years said as she got everyone's attention, especially the males though plenty of females were staring at her as well for various reasons. "It's time to get this Sports Festival started."

"Someone should really tell Miss Midnight what she's wearing." Kirishima muttered. "It looks embarrassing."

"That outfit should come with a warning label." Kaminari added. "Not that I am complaining, she looks great in it."

"Is it really appropriate attire for a high school." Tokoyami said.

"It's perfect, all female heroes should wear that." Mineta said with a thumbs up. "And that's tame, I have an original Midnight costume poster from her U.A. days when it was at its best, well many as I have ruined some, and she was way better back then. So much exposed skin, it's a shame that she forced the rule change, I would have voted against it."

"I don't even want to know." Adrien said with a glare at the class pervert. "And don't you dare share Mineta."

"It is a bit much." Marinette said as Mineta became a drooling mess as he openly lusted after Midnight, and everyone gave him a wide berth. "But doesn't she have a Quirk that is skin based or comes off her skin. She actually needs exposed skin for it to work."

"That would be correct Marinette, Miss Midnight's Quirk is called Somnambulist and she secrets a fine pink mist from her skin that puts people to sleep though it works better on men than women for some reason." Yaoyorozu said from Adrien's other side. "Not sure why that is the case but that's what the records say at least."

"My guess, it has something to do with sexual attraction so it might work well on lesbian and bisexual women as well provided they're attracted to her while not being as strong on gay men or straight women." Marinette whispered in French to Adrien. "But that's just a theory I have."

"It is like mine in that regard and why my costume is the way it is." Yaoyorozu continued knowing what Marinette had said and while she agreed with the assessment she didn't want to reveal to anyone other than the French pair, who already knew, that she could understand French, so she pretended not to understand it as she continued. "For some of us we need to be exposed to work best because that's just how our Quirks work. I would have made mine even less than it is had there not been regulations in place thanks to Midnight's original outfits. As it is, mine is as close to a violation as is possible to get while still being legal."

"Stupid government banning the best costumes just because they're sexy." Mineta grumbled. "We could have seen even more of Yaoyorozu's boobs if it wasn't for that."

"You do realize that because of your costume and your classical, very attractive, Japanese looks, you will receive a similar treatment as a pro." Adrien pointed out. "You're going to be a sex symbol with a very large male fanbase Yaoyorozu, whether you want to be or not."

"I will simply tell them why my costume is the way it is." Yaoyorozu said trying and failing not to blush at Agreste's complement and knowing it was wrong to do so. "Once they see my brains and skill and understand why my costume is the way it is, they'll forget it. My Quirk is not like Marinette's, I have to create the things from my body."

"And I don't have the advantage of variety and multiple creations in quick succession that you have Momo." Marinette said as she exchanged a look with Adrien about how wrong the black-haired girl was regarding her perception but deciding it was best to let her be naïve about it. "But all Quirks have advantages and disadvantages, and this festival will really show them."

"That it will." Yaoyorozu said. "I for one am excited to show what I can do and why I was recommended for U.A."

"Silence everyone." Midnight said with another whip of her flail as Marinette had decided to call it that instantly silenced the students. "To deliver the student pledge we have Katsuki Bakugo."

This surprised everyone present. Well, everyone but Bakugo who seemed indifferent to it as he walked up to the platform.

"He's the representative of the first years?" Izuku asked nervously. "This won't be good."

"Guess that hot head did come first in the entrance exam." Sero said.

"Only in the Hero exam." A brunette girl from General Studies said as she glared at them from where her class was. "It's like they don't care about the vast majority of the student body."

"Right forgot that." Sero said as the girl looked away still pissed. "That girl obviously hates us."

"We have Bakugo to thank for that." Kaminari said. "And he'll almost certainly make that worse now."

"This won't be good." Marinette said. "No way he's giving an actual pledge."

"I'm surprised there even is one." Adrien said. "What is it? Does anyone know?"

"I just want to say that I'm going to win." Bakugo said simply in a bored tone as he reached the mic and cut off all discussion.

Instantly they all blanched, well Class 1-A did because of course Bakugo would say something like that to the entire stadium. The others just booed and jeered him.

"Why would you say something like that." Iida yelled his left arm chopping the air as he stepped forward. "Your representing all of us, say something proper Bakugo."

"Not my fault that you're all just stepping stones to my victory." Bakugo said simply as he turned to them and gave them a thumbs down. "I'm here to win, it's as simple as that. The rest of you are just extras who are in my way."

"I can't wait to crush this over confident jerk and bring him down to size." The silver haired class 1-B kid that Marinette knew was called Tetsutetsu yelled. "Just you wait, you're mine Bakugo. I'm going to take you down a peg you here me."

The only one who didn't see it like that was Izuku. He knew Kacchan better than the others ever would and normally Kacchan would have laughed something like that off as a joke but now he was serious and somber as he ignored a flailing Iida and walked back into the crowd, bumping Izuku's shoulder as he passed. All this showed the former Quirkless boy that Kacchan was going to go well beyond his limits to win the Sports Festival.

"Looks like we're targets." Adrien said as now everyone was glaring at Class 1-A. "Well, even bigger targets then we already were if that is even possible."

"Yup, Kacchan is serious and that means they're all coming for us." Izuku said. "Add in Todoroki challenging me and completely ignoring Kacchan and well he's really motivated to win this now."

"Alright, let's get started." Midnight said as Bakugo was walking back and the screen in the stadium changed to announce the first event was going to start showing that they would have no time to catch their breathes. "What could it be I wonder?"

Midnight accented her words with flips of her flail for emphasis as the screen began to spin through the various events at a speed that was just a blur. It looked like they wouldn't see what other events could be until it stopped. That happened a second later when it did, and they saw that it was an obstacle race.

"Makes sense." Marinette said to Adrien in French. "Wouldn't be surprised if that wasn't as random as it is made out to be for the first event. What better way to both whittle down the field and have us show off in a variety of settings then an obstacle race. It's too perfect to be chance."

"Agreed which means we work together as best we can at the start but in the end we race to see who wins." Adrien replied in French. "Should be fun."

"Should be." Marinette said with a grin.

"All the classes will participate in this one." Midnight said as the screen changed to first show all the classes in a ring and then a track around the stadium. "It's a 4-kilometer track around the stadium starting and ending here and I don't want to restrain anyone, at least at this stage."

The way Midnight said that and added a lick of her lips and a coy wink at the end, sent shivers down many spines at both the implications and inappropriate nature of it. Well, most that is as Mineta seemed to be really into it, at least they knew he was likely a submissive and possibly a masochist, not that anyone wanted to know that at all.

"So long as you stay within the bounds of the track you are free to do what you want, Quirks and all." Midnight said as she whipped her flail again and flung an arm out to the doorway that was clearly the one that led to the obstacle track as it wasn't one that any of them had entered from and adding to the idea that this had been planned. "Now, take your places contestants."

Immediately all the classes headed over to get as good a position as they could in front of the door waiting for it to start. Above the door were 3 green lights that were currently lit. Everyone was ready, all set, steely faced and determined to race, to prove what they had to for this. Then the first light turned off staring the countdown, followed by the second and lastly the third.

"Begin!" Midnight yelled and the stampede that started the U.A. Sports Festival began.

Almost at once all the students charged to the doorway. It was tall but only about 5 or so people abreast could fit through it and that's not taking into account mutant Quirks. That meant that they were bottlenecked right away as they tried to get through it with everyone pushing and shoving as they jammed in trying and failing to get through it quickly.

"And their off!" Present Mic said enthusiastically while the crowd cheered loudly. "How about some color commentary mummy man."

"How did you talk me into this?" Aizawa's voice said showing that for some unknown reason he was in the commentary booth with Present Mic. "Seriously, how?"

"What should our students be looking for?" Present Mic asked ignoring his friend's protest to how he'd ended up in the announcer's booth with him.

"The entryway." Aizawa said simply.

It took a moment but a few of the students figured it out. The first obstacle was not what was on the outside, no it was to get to the outside. The entryway was clearly designed for this press and to test the students' reaction to how to get out of or through such a situation. The first to realize this was Todoroki who quickly froze the area around him, including several students and burst out in an early lead running and creating a layer of ice as he did that would slow down his pursuers.

"And Class 1-A's Shoto Todoroki has taken an early lead." Present Mic called out as the crowd cheered. "How will the others respond to this early statement from one of the best Hero Course students."

"That should hold them for a while." Todoroki muttered as he ran ahead. "But I'll make sure to keep hindering them."

"Icy-hot bastard!" A roar came from behind him, and Todoroki glanced over his shoulder to see Bakugo blasting out of the entryway and flying towards him.

He wasn't the only one as well. Yaoyorozu had created a steel pole from her hand to vault over the ice, Aoyama was using his navel laser, Sero his tape and Ojiro his tail to avoid or maneuver over the ice and travel across it. Just behind them Mineta was furiously throwing balls and bouncing on them.

"You froze me once." Ojiro called out. "Not again."

"Guess I misjudged our…" Todoroki began before his eyes went wide at who he saw flip out of the tunnel and more importantly what was glowing on his right hand. "Agreste, damn I forgot to factor in what his Quirk can do to mine. I'm going to have to watch for him."

That was because as the throngs had been getting worse Marinette and Adrien had used their training to leap up and onto the walls, using some of the other students to get there as it was fair game before leaping from wall to wall as they traveled, an old trick from their days in Paris that they did in perfect sync much to many student's surprise. That was how they had avoided the walls and leapt out to the ice right behind the leading pack chasing Todoroki.

"Adrien." Marinette yelled in midair having taken a higher angle and now slightly behind her boyfriend. "Ice is inorganic, isn't it?"

"That it is." Adrien said with a grin, his leap had been more forward putting himself ahead of Marinette early on. "Perfect time to test this."

Adrien's right hand flared black as his Quirk activated and coated it with pure destruction. Flipping forward, Adrien did a one-hand spring flip off the ice with his right hand and rolled in the air but kept his right hand clear while also focusing on keeping his Quirk active. The moment his hand touched the ice he pushed his power into it and at once it spread, cracking the ice and breaking it up while turning the area around where he'd put his hand into a fine black dust.

Over the last 2 weeks, in addition to training his hand to hand with Ojiro and staff techniques with Yaoyorozu, Adrien had also been working hard with his Quirk, after Mr. Aizawa finally tested it. His had more growth potential than Marinette's and he fully intended to maximize that. Over the weeks he'd been able to learn how to both impart it faster on a surface from his touch rather than just waiting for Cataclysm to do its thing and had improved his ability to keep it active after a touch, as well as something else he was saving for when he needed it.

It was really useful at this moment as it destroyed all the ice and Adrien's move had propelled him into fourth behind Todoroki, Mineta who was now in second and closing on the recommended student, and Bakugo who's Quirk allowed him to go faster while avoiding the ice as he went. Adrien was running normally but at full sprint as his stamina could handle it.

All Todoroki could think was to swear internally as he turned back and ran ahead. The French boy was good, he'd seen that, but it was clear that in the combat training he'd deferred to his girlfriend, and he seemed to always hold back in other hero classes for some reason.

Now Todoroki understood why he'd done that and could fully understand why Mr. Aizawa had been unable to test it on the first day. Agreste's Quirk was powerful, it was like the hand villain's from the USJ only he could control when it was active and could only affect inorganic material. However, that included Todoroki's ice which meant that Agreste could be his equal if they fought head-to-head.

As Todoroki was thinking this, Mineta closed in yelling at him but before he could catch up a robot hand came out of nowhere and struck the pervert in the face throwing him back. Well, that explained what the next obstacle was and got Mineta off Todoroki's tail for the moment.

"So, this is what the other students faced in their entrance exams." Todoroki said as a giant 0-pointer robot appeared before him. "Not too hard, I'll use you just fine to my advantage."

The robot of course couldn't hear but as it thrust a hand down, Todoroki raised his right hand up and created a series of jagged ice pillars that caught its hand and stopped it while using his right foot to freeze its legs as it was leaning forward. He'd timed it just right to freeze it whole it was off balance. His ice was strong but against a large robot like this it wouldn't hold for long which was just what he want.

"Quick, while we can run between its legs." A student yelled.

"Careful." Todoroki said with a grin as he heard the robot fall and sped up with his lead. "I froze it while off balance on purpose."

"Todoroki's attack was both offensive and defensive." Aizawa said through the speakers that pumped the commentary to the racers as well as the crowd. "It's clear he has a good head for this as he made sure he could pass while creating an obstacle for the others."

"Wow, it's no wonder he got in on recommendations!" Present Mic yelled out.

"But his aptitude could use some more work especially after the USJ where he saw the full extent of the lead villain's power." Aizawa added and this time Todoroki was listening. "Or else he'd have remembered what one his class can do. There are some Quirks out there, one of which is in the Hero Course here, that are hard to use in training. Thankfully, this one won't work on flesh."

"Oh, I see, it's the French exchange boy Agreste." Present Mic said. "You're right there and as an exchange student he's considered on par with recommended students."

"Damn." Todoroki said as he plowed on ahead and focused on winning. "I keep forgetting that. Agreste is too unassuming in class, I can't ignore him for long. He's up there with Midoriya, Bakugo, and Dupain-Cheng as a legitimate threat to me today."

Todoroki was right, Adrien was the one who was the biggest bane for him right now. With Mineta thrown away, Adrien was now in joint second with Bakugo who was above him yelling obscenities as he pushed himself forward and upwards due to the robot while Marinette led the trailing pack.

They had come to the robot, and most had hesitated, not because of the large one but because of thew others around them that were closing. Bakugo was already going high, and Adrien knew he couldn't stop so he ran forward under the about to fall robot's legs and after Todoroki as fast as he could. His speed allowed him to get into position, but he needed a boost, so Adrien ran his right hand along the leg as he passed and imparted all of his Cataclysm into the robot as he did.

"That should help." Adrien said as he took off after Todoroki currently in second, but Bakugo was really showing off his explosions as he cleared the robot and blasted off as well only just behind Adrien.

The robot itself fell forward and crashed hard into the ground and on top of two students as it was turning to rust with a missing leg thanks to Adrien's Quirk. With a yell, a fully hardened Kirishima burst out of it causing more damage to the robot in the process as the Cataclysm finished engulfing it and turning most to rust that was extremely brittle though the entire right leg was now dust.

"Damn Todoroki and Agreste, only I could survive that." Kirishima yelled. "So manly being able to take out a robot like this without assistance though."

"And there is Eijiro Kirishima." Present Mic said as part of his commentary. "His Hardening Quirk makes his body as hard as rock turning him into the ultimate sword or an unbreakable shield."

"Damn class 1-A showoffs." A voice yelled as the silver haired guy from 1-B burst out next to Kirishima his body now entirely steel. "Lucky for me I could survive it but no one else could."

"Hey man, you're copying me." Kirishima complained.

"No, you're copying me." The boy said back to him.

"And there is Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu." Present Mic said as part of his commentary. "His Steek Quirk makes his skin steel turning him into the ultimate sword or an unbreakable shield."

"Even our commentary is basically the same." Kirishima complained.

"If you two meatheads are done bitching about your similarities, use those Quirks of yours to destroy this thing." Marinette yelled at them as she flipped over them having leapt over it going as the crow flies to catch up to the others and running up the downed robot as she did. "Adrien's Quirk is pure destruction; this thing is nothing but a hung of rust that with shatter with a good hit from a Quirk like yours. Man, up and get rid of it."

"Damn Dupain-Cheng, you're so manly." Kirishima said as he noticed what the French girl had said by seeing how much he'd damaged as he had burst free, it was more than he'd expected to cause.

"Still a girl Kirishima." Marinette called over her shoulder at him as she ran before she leapt off the robot with a flip as she followed Adrien, Todoroki and Bakugo.

Marinette ignored what was going on behind her as Kirishima and Tetsutetsu, who had a similar Quirk cut a path through what was left of the zero pointer and freed if for others. A few of the students with more mobile Quirks had gone over it while the others worked together to deal with the small, annoying ones.

They could handle them for all Marinette cared, she had a race to try and win. Already Todoroki, Bakugo and Adrien were well clear of the robot obstacle thanks to their Quirks and Marinette was determined to catchup as she left the area without facing another robot and was now in 4th as she charged after her boyfriend.

Adrien was in front of her as he came to the fall obstacle. It was, as Present Mic called it, a giant canyon with rock formations in it and ropes between them for the students to use. This wasn't a problem for Adrien though. His only delay was having to run wide as Todoroki had frozen the first rope making it so that not even Adrien couldn't follow that way. That also allowed Bakugo to get ahead of him as he was unhindered by it being in the air and yelling at Todoroki the entire time.

Thankfully Adrien didn't have to go far to find his path and instantly ran onto the rope he found without hesitation. His body was now what it was when his Miraculous had been active so he could easily run along the rope without falling or losing speed. That was how he got across with ease.

"And look at our top three go." Present Mic said sounding amazed at what had happened. "All clear the canyon with ease. Who knew that Agreste could run like that on a rope, he's like a cat out there."

"Agreste's reflexes and balance are second to none in the class thanks to an inherited constitution." Aizawa said. "Bakugo may have a faster reaction time or adjustment and Todoroki skill, but Agreste has his own advantages that the other two lack. It's no wonder those 3 are leading and that Dupain-Cheng is closing, she's another one to keep an eye on."

"Oh, the other French exchange student." Present Mic said. "Yes, she's one to look at too."

Marinette heard but ignored the commentary as she reached the canyon. She couldn't run like Adrien could, he had that balance skill thanks to the cat part of the Miraculous he had but Marinette had her own plan and ran to a far rope that few would use to get across. As she reached it she noticed that it was attached to a spike driven into the ground. She could use her Quirk to cut rope, but she had a feeling that she'd need it for the last obstacle, and she'd only get one realistic shot to use her Lucky Charm. That was why she simply ripped the rope out with her bare hands.

"What is Dupain-Cheng doing?" Present Mic asked as Marinette finished and the first group behind her caught up. "That's not what I'd expect from a Hero Course student."

"Improvising." Aizawa said as Marinette, clutching the rope in her hands, leapt off the cliff and swung on it, using it as a pendulum just as she would with her yo-yo. "She can't have her costume or support item so she's using the course itself to give her a boost by altering it to fit her own specific skill set and training. That's the kinda thinking a hero is expected to have."

"No wonder." Present Mic said.

Marinette just kept ignoring the commentary that they could all hear as she swung on the rope. It wasn't like her yo-yo and even her enhanced strength struggled with it, but she pushed through it as she fell into the canyon and arced up, her angle taking her past the rock pillar the rope was attached to on the other end. As she reached the arc up that her weight allowed her she let go and flipped forward.

This was what she was used to doing as she traversed Paris and while she couldn't balance like Adrien could, Marinette did have her own skills as she flew across the canyon and altered her course so that she landed on another rope with one foot in front of the other. Thanks to her fall, the rope acted as a trampoline and Marinette leapt off it and forward as she crossed the canyon that way to land cleanly on the other side and run after Adrien.

The people behind them had all come to a halt at the canyon as the four leaders crossed it and while some instantly acted, others were more hesitant as they planned how to cross it. One of those people was Uraraka who stopped with Ashido to gape at the obstacle and how some of their class cleared it with ease. The one that stood out though was Dupain-Cheng who was bouncing off the ropes as she reached the other side. Uraraka knew that the French girl was good, but that was something else.

"Yes, my time to shine at last." An excited voice cackled behind them causing the girls to turn to see the support girl with pink hair and googles covering her eyes approaching covered in items. "Now the world will see what some of my babies can do."

"You're from Support." Ashido said surprised that one of that class was this far ahead of the pack. "How come you have all that gear?"

"You heroes get training so to balance it we Support Course students can take whatever we make into the Sports Festival so long as they were made by the maker alone." The girl said as she shot forward on special boots she was wearing that seemed to skim the air. "Now move, my babies need the exposure!"

The slightly insane girl leapt into the canyon before a wire shot out of her harness at her hip and hit a rock pillar reeling her in and she landed on the side going up it with the reel before leaping into the air in a star pattern to show off and sending out another cable to keep showing off how her gadgets could get her across the obstacle.

"Can't let a Support Course student show us up." Uraraka said as she leapt off with as much strength as she could muster and made herself weightless in the process to cross the canyon.

"Speak for yourself girl." Ashido grumbled as she took a more mundane path. "I can't use my Quirk on this, it will just destroy the ropes."

Meanwhile, the leaders had all reached the last obstacle, the mine field. Todoroki had already headed into it, taking his time as an ice path, while the fasted way across, would help the others so this was the best for now.

It was clear to him why this was the last obstacle. The mines were just about visible, but they were really close together and while they didn't pack a big punch, they would still send you flying if you stepped on one. You had to be slow and steady to get through them and you could only see the ones near you so you couldn't rush ahead. It was cleverly designed to slow the leaders down and give them a disadvantage.

This of course didn't matter to Bakugo who blasted into the minefield, flying above it thanks to his Quirk, finally able to both close on Todoroki and gain ground ahead Frenchie as the other blonde had shown himself to be a bit more capable than Bakugo had expected and as such merited at least a little consideration going forward in the Sports Festival. That didn't matter much to him though, this was Bakugo's time to win and make a statement against the icy hot bastard in front of him.

"Bastard." Bakugo said as he blasted past Todoroki with a glare and took the lead. "You're declaration of war, was to the wrong person!"

All Todoroki could do was pick up his pace to keep with Bakugo as they began to fight with each other while Present Mic enjoyed the commentary of it. All the while the recommended student was cleverly keeping in contact with Bakugo to both prevent him from getting in front of him and ensuring that if he stepped on a mine it would take out both of them. It was clear that these two were far ahead and likely to take the top spot pending a major mistake by one of them.

Behind them, Adrien was steadily making his way through the field his eyes closed as he used his above average smell, enhanced thanks to Mage giving him his Miraculous powers as his Quirk which included the enhanced senses of a cat, to pick out the locations of the mines and move steadily through it by detecting the smell of the explosives in them to chart a safe path through the field. At this point Adrien was certain he wouldn't win but he'd still aim for top 3 if her could. He was midway through the field when Marinette reached it.

"This is why I waited." Marinette muttered as she saw what was ahead of her and held out her hand. "Lucky Charm!"

There was a flash of pink and a pair of what looked like high tech sunglasses with a U.A. sports kit print on them appeared before her. It wasn't what she was expecting but Marinette grabbed them out of the air and put them on as that was clearly what she was supposed to do with them.

Instantly her vision changed. Marinette wasn't sure what they were, likely some form of thermal or X-ray glasses, but whatever they were they saw through the ground and to the mines below. She could now see where they all were. As she was doing this, her vision grayed, and she saw a path light up in her ladybug pattern and begin pulsating slightly.

Well, that was different. Marinette hadn't really experienced this part of her Quirk yet as most of the times she used it her vision gave her an order to do things in and she knew what to do but this time seemed to be different.

She had thought about getting something to help her cross the minefield and the glasses had appeared before her. They allowed her to see the mines but that was it, it was the combination of them with her desire to safely cross the field that produced the path. With a grin Marinette set off at a run as the first few in the trailing pack began to reach the minefield.

"What's this?" Present Mic called out. "Dupain-Cheng is running through the mines without setting any off and her pace seems to be only slightly slower than it would be in the open field. Does it have to do with those fancy glasses she's now wearing? Where did they come from?"

"Completely." Aizawa said bored with his job but answering his friend's questions regardless. "Dupain-Cheng has been tactical given her Quirk's time limit and recharge period. She used her raw physical abilities until an obstacle that required more brains than brawn and activated her Quirk to give her what she needs, in this case something to see where all the mines are hence why she can run through the field like that. She may not catch Todoroki and Bakugo at this rate, but she will catch Agreste."

"Eyes up kitty." Marinette said in French as she reached and passed him. "Enjoy the view, I know you like it."

"Now bugaboo, this isn't the time for enjoying your fine derriere." Adrien said with a grin as he decided to abandon pretense and ran after Marinette following in her wake knowing that it was her Quirk that was allowing her to navigate the minefield. "Thanks though, this does help."

Adrien knew his girlfriend's power well and how it truly worked with her mind so all he had to do was follow her while keeping his senses open to avoid a trick or trap from her. That way he'd get through and then he and Marinette would race the last bit for third. Nothing short of something drastic could stop them from challenging for a top 3 spot.

Of course, that was the moment that something drastic happened. As they reached the halfway point with the two leaders over 3/4rds of the way down having slowed due to the spat they were having, a massive explosion rocked the back where most of the hero course were trying to pick their way across with varying degrees of success based on the occasional explosion and wail of a student sent into the air by it. The massive one sounded like several all at once and a large pink cloud, they were using pink explosives for some reason, appeared.

Then, as they all stopped and watched at the sound, a figure on a shard of robot and gripped with a cord of wires from it shot out of the cloud, over their heads and past the leaders to claim first place. On it they could make out a mop of dark green hair and red sneakers. It was Midoriya.

"And Izuku Midoriya has blasted into first with an unbelievable move!" Present Mic said excitedly. "I can't believe this."

The first two to react were Bakugo and Todoroki who shot after Midoriya. Bakugo blasting as hard as he could while Todoroki had given up all pretense of caution and used his ice to cross as they closed in on Midoriya while everyone just watched.

As they all reached the end it became clear that Midoriya had mistimed his blast and he was not going to make it as he came down between the other two boys. Then, in a feet of athleticism that none saw coming from the nervous kid, he flipped forward at the last minute, placed both his feet on the shoulders of the other two, and slammed the metal plate he had down hard on the ground and onto a mine that was between them, holding the cable he used to brace himself to keep his distance. It was an ingenious move that worked perfectly.

The blast threw Todoroki and Bakugo to the side as Midoriya used it to propel himself forward and increase his speed as he landed clear of the minefield in first place, rolled on landing to preserve his momentum before he popped up and sprinted to the entrance to the stadium that was the finish line. He had the lead and momentum and was fixated solely on the goal. He was going to win this and show everyone that he was here.

Behind him, Bakugo and Todoroki blasted off at full speed as they chased Midoriya. The trio of class 1-A sped to the finish line before anyone had recovered from what Midoriya had done well clear and going to take the top 3 spots. It would only come down to which one they claimed as they entered the tunnel, ice freezing half and explosions echoing in it until one emerge into the camera flashes the winner of the obstacle race.

"And the winner is…" Present Mic called out. "Izuku Midoriya of Class 1-A! Shoto Todoroki takes second and Katsuki Bakugo finishes third. What the hell are you teaching your students Erasure?"

"They did this on their own." Aizawa said simply. "Their drive to win propelled them to this point and produced the result."

"Well, you heard it hear, Erasure Head's a bad teacher." Present Mic said.

"What!" Aizawa yelled turning to his friend.

Meanwhile, back on the course Marinette and Adrien, along with two members of Class 1-B who were a fair bit behind them, recovered the fastest and began to head to the stadium as fast as they could. Marinette led Adrien to the end of the minefield and then it came a sprint to the finish line.

"See you there m'lady." Adrien said with a grin as he passed her. "This is pure speed and strength now."

"Damn biology." Marinette swore as Adrien pulled ahead, even with their enhancements thanks to Mage their biology played a role in their top limits and when it came to speed, stamina, and strength Adrien had Marinette in that regard. "Though props to Midoriya, that was inspired and really won it."

Adrien just nodded as he used his slight advantage on Marinette in terms of speed, stamina and strength to increase the gap between them. In a flat race, he was the better one and he showed it as he came to the stadium first and burst into it in fourth place to the three boys standing there panting and waiting for the others.

A few seconds later Marinette came in after him followed half a minute later by a girl with vines for hair and a boy with a skull like face who claimed 6th and 7th respectively. The top 10 was rounded out by Iida, Tokoyami, and Kirishima in that order.

Starting from there the students came in thick and fast, all appearing to be hero course students as a number appeared next to each on the jumbotron in the stadium to denote his or her place upon arrival. It was all done efficiently, and the list stayed up there so that all could see where the students placed.

As the screen filled with names, it also showed the cutoff point. It appeared that the top 44 students, so all the spots on the Hero Course plus two for other students who either really showed off or were aiming to transfer, advanced to the second stage of the festival.

Marinette and Adrien just watched as they arrived with most of 1-A showing up in the top half of the arrivals with the occasional 1-B student before the rest of them arrived in a pack towards the end. The one odd arrival was Mineta who was on the back of Yaoyorozu who's top had been opened to show her sports bra that wasn't doing the best job at hiding her assets and explained the canon sound earlier.

There were two clear surprises in mis. The first was the purple haired kid, Hitoshi Shinso the board said, from General Studies who came in 29th and the pink haired support girl was apparently called Mei Hatsume who came 42nd to surprise everyone with a Support Course student making the cut. That meant that two hero course students placed right on the cusp being eliminated, those being a Class 1-B kid called Manga Fukidashi and a sick looking Aoyama who place in the last two spots.

"Only the top 44 advance but don't worry if you didn't make it, we've prepared other opportunities for you to shine later on." Midnight said with a seductive lick of her lips that most found inappropriate and Mineta loved. "For the rest of you though, it is time to move on and a chance to propel yourselves into the limelight."

As Midnight spoke the screen appeared behind her and began to spin again. Those who had failed to make the cut left, most happy to go as this was mainly for the Hero Course students, while those who had advanced stayed and waited with bated breath to see what the next event was as the wheel spun.

"The waiting is torture." Midnight said seductively as she flicked her flail again and the wheel final stopped. "But prepare yourself for this. The next round is going to be … A cavalry battle."

This got the crowd and the remaining participants muttering as the image showed three people carrying a fourth on their backs. It appeared to be a Japanese thing though as Adrien and Marinette exchanged glances and had no idea what it was or how it worked, but they assumed that Midnight would explain the rules.

"I'm terrible at those." Kaminari complained while Mineta jumped in excitement at the event as it meant that he might be able to ride on the back of one of the girls. "And I can't use my Quirk without frying my own team."

"Huh, it's a team event not an individual one." Tsu muttered getting Marinette's attention, so teamwork was being tested which made sense after an individual event like the obstacle course which had proved Todoroki wrong at the start when made his declaration to Midoriya, there was going to be a team event after all. "I wonder how they will split us up."

"You will split into teams of 2 to 4 people and in theory it is the same as a regular playground event." Midnight said looking over her shoulder coyly at them that made several uncomfortable and Mineta tremble in pleasure. "But there is twist. Each individual has been assigned a certain number of points depending on where they finished with the lowest being 5 and going up in increments of 5 so the second to last in the obstacle race has 10 and then 15 and so on and so on and your total points are the sum of the people on your team. The goal is to take the points from the other teams in the allotted time with the top 16 based on points advancing to the final stage."

"So, it is a point-based system like the entrance exam." Sato said. "Seems simple enough."

"Each team will have a different point value depending on who's on it." Uraraka said as she tried to do math on it.

"That's correct." Ashido said. "So, team composition will have to factor in points as well as Quirks and personalities. Really testing us there."

"Teamwork, it will require skill, coordination, and communication to maximize our points." Marinette said to Adrien in a low voice and reverting to French for it. "We need Aoyama for this, he speaks French and that will give us an advantage. Momo can as well but it's best we avoid letting others know she can speak it."

"Agreed but we need a 4th." Adrien said. "Foundation wise and Quirk range would be key for this. If we 3 are the base then who will be the rider? Makes sense for the non-French speaker to be that person."

"I know and I have an idea who it should be." Marinette said looking to the crowd. "I know just who to ask when we get the chance while you go and get Aoyama on board."

"I trust your bugaboo." Adrien said.

"Maybe you all should shut up and let me finish or else I will punish you." Midnight said angrily with another flick of her flail shutting up everyone though more because none wanted to know what Midnight's definition of punishment was. "Anyway, the point value assigned for the first-place finisher is…10 million."

That announcement suddenly changed everything as everyone turned to Midoriya who just stood there dumbfounded at the news of his points total. He had no idea how he'd ended up in with that many points as it was mathematically impossible, but it seemed like this was deliberate, a way to reward the first-place finisher for standing out though it wasn't really a reward.

This caused everyone to glare at him marking him out as the one to go after at the start. They all knew what it meant. Take his team down and they take the lead in the battle with a guaranteed spot in the next round so long as they held onto the headband. It was clearly done deliberately.

"That's right it's a chance for those at the bottom to claw their way back to the top." Midnight said with a wide, sadistic, grin. "It's survival of the fittest out there so get ready, you have 15 minutes to choose your teams before the cavalry battle begins. You're points will be on a headband around the rider's head and you gain points by stealing other rider's headbands. Those headbands must be wore from the neck up so the more you steal the harder it is to see. Even if you fall down or your team's headband gets stolen you can get up and keep playing but you can't deliberately make a team fall or else you will be disqualified. Otherwise use your Quirks as much as you like. Your 15 minutes to make teams starts…now."

With a flick of her wrist and a snap of her flail the timer started, and everyone began talking and gravitating to who they wanted on their teams. It was time to choose teams and prepare because soon the second stage of the U.A. Sports Festival for the first years would begin.

Well, there it is, the first event of the Sports Festival is in the books and the Miraculous duo has done well for themselves with top 5 finishes going into the Cavalry Battle. I wonder who they will choose for that and what their tactics will be, only time will tell on that front so wait and see. For anyone curious about Midnight's original costume, which the show actually didn't show in that scene with her and Mount Lady talking about exposed skin in costumes as that was still tame compared to her school costume, check out the wikia or Vigilantes as it is in that series I believe. It is as risqué as you'd imagine and then some. However, that is all I have for this chapter so I will leave it off here.
