A/N: I know it's February, but I've had a prolonged illness and physical therapy rehab stint. I missed writing the annual Bonesology Christmas fic challenge. It will be a multi chapter story using one holiday/winter themed word from the provided list…
The first one takes place in season 7, before Christine is born
It was the weekend before Valentine's Day. Booth normally didn't celebrate Valentine's Day because he hadn't been in a relationship worth celebrating. Now he was in a relationship with Brennan and while she didn't believe in the commercialization of the holiday. He'd planned to make Brennan a nice dinner and send flowers to the lab and he knew she'd accept it because it brought him joy. Over the last few months Brennan had learned to tolerate Booth's gestures, if asked she would blame pregnancy hormones, but Booth would say it was because she enjoyed being doted on. Booth tossed another shirt in his bag and looked up at the T.V. the snowstorm that had been forecasted since mid-week had been upgraded to a blizzard warning overnight. Normally Booth wouldn't be packing to spend the weekend at Brennan's apartment but due the impending blizzard and the fact she was 7 months pregnant he wasn't taking any chances. Since finding out that they were going to be parents they took turns staying at each other's apartments, Brennan stayed at Booth's apartment more than he stayed at hers. Brennan should have been at Booth's this weekend but she had a book deadline looming and his apartment was too over stimulating for her to write in. Booth grabbed his suitcase and garment bag with his suits for the week from his bed and headed to the kitchen to grab things that he'd gotten to survive the weekend storm with. After loading up the SUV Booth made a few more quick stops before heading to Brennan's. since she wasn't expecting him Booth knocked on Brennan's door rather than using his key.
After a minute Brennan opened the door, "Booth! What are you doing here?"
"Hey Bones. I'm going to wait out the blizzard here with you."
"Booth this isn't necessary, it's just a snow storm. It probably won't even snow…." Brennan stepped back and let Booth into her apartment.
.""Bones, it isn't 'just a snowstorm' it was upgraded to a blizzard overnight…"
"Oh… Booth, you don't need to stay with me, I will be fine."
"Do you know how many babies are born during blizzards?"
"No, but I have over a month until my due date…"
"Yeah, but our little girl might try to come early just to add excitement to the blizzard…"
"I highly doubt that will happen…"
"it'll make me feel better if I'm here with you. Plus, blizzards are more fun if you're with someone…"
"All right, but I have a book to finish writing by next Thursday. I cannot be disturbed.
"You won't know I'm here, Bones…."
"I always know where you are, Booth. it will be impossible for you to be completely silent the whole time I'm writing, but if you can give me a few more hours I'll be happy." Booth nods and puts his bags down.
"What is all this?"
"My clothes and supplies for the storm, bread, milk eggs, bacon, hamburger meat, stuff to make soup, pancake mix ,veggies. I got your almond milk, veggie burger crumbles, that 'chicken' stuff you eat, tofu and salad stuff…"
Brennan smiled, "thank you for getting the almond milk, I'm almost out. Christine has been wanting it a lot the last few days…"
"You're welcome."
"What kind of soup are you planning on making?"
"I can make veggie noodle or potato. What sounds good?"
"Both…"
Booth chuckled and kissed Brennan's forehead, "I'll make potato tonight and veggie in a few days…"
"Okay." Brennan moved to the kitchen table and sat down waking up her laptop.
"You write at the kitchen table, Bones?"
"Or the couch, I alternate."
"How come you don't covert the spare bedroom into an office? Your dad only uses the bed maybe twice a year."
"I tried that when I started the second book, but I couldn't write the smut scenes in there…." Brennan shrugged. Booth chuckled and started putting the groceries away.
"I'm going to go finish this chapter on the couch…"
"Okay. I'm going to start the soup in a little while."
"Sounds good."
Booth nodded and took his bags to Brennan's bedroom. A while later Brennan smiled when Booth silently sat a plate with baby carrots and guacamole and half of an apple sliced and slathered with peanut butter and sprinkled with mini dark chocolate chips on the end table beside the couch. "thanks, Booth."
"You're welcome, Bones." Booth picked up her tumbler, "I'll get you some more ice water."
"Put lemon in it."
"Okay."
A minute later Booth sat the tumbler on the end table, "Thanks, Booth."
"You're welcome, Bones."
"Booth, you can sit next to me if you want,"
"It won't disturb you?"
"No, I'm writing an interrogation scene and am stuck on it. I could use a different perspective."
"Okay. Let me get the rest of your apple."
"While you're doing that I'm going to go to the bathroom. You can read the last chapter . and this one so you know what's happening."
"Okay." Brennan tried and failed to get up on her own, Booth wordlessly held out both of his hands and let Brennan pull herself to her feet. Once she was up Booth kissed her forehead.
"Thank you." Booth nodded, got Brennan's apple and sat down on the couch. A few minutes later Brennan came back and sat down, waiting for Booth to finish reading. A few minutes later Booth sat back and looked at Brennan, "this is really good, Bones, but Andy should be a little more pissed at Kathy for defying him and getting hurt."
"Her injuries are minor…."
"Doesn't matter, she's his responsibility his priority is to keep her safe..."
"So, you've been mad the few times I've defied you and gotten hurt?"
"Yes. Not only because you're my partner and when your partner gets hurt you hurt…. Also, because I've thought of you as more than a partner for a few years now and it makes me sick to think of something happening to you. Plus, the fact that you're not a trained agent and got hurt means a shit ton of paperwork for me, more than I have if I fire my gun…" Booth grinned Brennan chuckled and picked up her laptop. Almost two hours later the chapter was finished, Brennan saved her work and closed her laptop sitting it on the coffee table.
"Thanks for the help, Booth."
"You're welcome ,Bones. It was fun helping you finish the chapter."
"I did find it enjoyable, also. Perhaps next time I have writer's block I'll see if you can help me overcome it."
"Okay. "Brennan snuggled next to Booth, he put an am around her and pulled her close and kissed her. Later Brennan slowly opened her eyes to find Booth stroking her cheek, "Good afternoon, sleepyhead."
"How long was I asleep?"
"Almost three hours…"
"I didn't sleep well last night and you're really comfortable…"
"Good to know…I'll start the soup soon…"
"Okay. Do you need help?"
"No, but you can sit and keep me company if you want."
"Okay." Booth helped Brennan up and they headed to the kitchen. Once Brennan was sitting at the counter Booth placed a filled wine glass in front of her. "I can't drink that, Booth.."
"it's sparkling grape juice, Bones…"
"Oh… did you read the rest of my book Booth?"
"No, I'll get it at the bookstore when it comes out like I always do."
"You always buy my books, Booth?"
"Yeah, I actually pre order them from Maggie's Books. on release day she meets me there before she opens and I get it and get a coffee and read a chapter or two before work."
"I can get you an advance copy, Booth."
"No, I don't want to ruin my tradition."
Brennan smiled, "Okay."
An half hour later Brennan took a bite of soup, "Booth, this is really good."
"Thanks, it's Gram's recipe. She tried to teach me and Jared how to make a lot of cheap easy meals as we grew up. I was the only one who paid attention…"
"I'm glad you did."
"Thanks Bones."
B&B
The next day Booth woke up to Brennan sleeping as close to him as Christine allowed. After carefully getting out of bed and leaving Brennan to sleep Booth went to the bathroom and got ready for the day. Booth grinned when he looked out Brennan's living room window, everything was covered in a deep fluffy white blanket of snow and it was still coming down, after taking pictures and a video and sending them to Parker Booth went into the kitchen and started breakfast. An hour later Brennan came into the kitchen.
"Morning Bones."
"Good morning, Booth."
"Did you see the blizzard?"
"Yes, I don't mind snow, but I'm glad I don't have to go out in it. Did you tell Parker?"
"Yeah, I sent him pictures and a video…"
Brennan smiled when Booth handed her a mug of tea. "Thanks, Booth…"
"You're welcome, Bones. Pancakes will be ready in a few minutes…"
"Okay." A few minutes later Booth put a plate of heart-shaped pancakes and berries in front of her.
"I know you don't believe in Valentine's Day, but I used to make different shaped pancakes and stuff for Parker and I need to practice for when baby girl gets here…"
"Booth, we have almost a year before Christine can eat pancakes…"
"I need lots of practice…" Booth grinned and sat down across from Brennan with his own plate.
Brennan grinned back, "you make really good pancakes, Booth."
"Thanks Bones."
After breakfast Booth cleared the table and Brennan got out her laptop and sat at the kitchen table and started working on her new chapter. Booth put together the bassinet Brennan had gotten for Christine to use in their bedroom. They were still hammering out where they were going to live, neither of their apartments were big enough but finding a house that Booth could afford and Brennan liked was proving to be a difficult task. Brennan hadn't asked him to put it together, but he needed to do something to make himself feel better. They had seven weeks until baby girl was supposed to arrive and they didn't have a house yet, but at least she had somewhere to sleep. With that done Booth went to the kitchen to figure out how to make Brennan a heart shaped lunch.
