Chapter 1 - Frozen

Her chest was on fire, but she couldn't stop, she had to keep running. Exhaustion could be seen on her face as she ran and ran through the dark corridors of Hogwarts. Spells were hitting the walls to her left and right as they crept up behind her.

'Keep Running' She thought to herself, tears falling down her face.

This wasn't supposed to happen. They had won, Voldemort was defeated, Harry had lived. It was over, they had moved on, or so they thought. Today was supposed to be about remembering the loss, the life, and love of those who fought at the Battle of Hogwarts. It was the 4th annual Remembrance Ball, a beautiful night, full of laughter and love, the night Harry was going to propose to Ginny.

She held back her cry as she turned back to fire a stunner. Faster, she had to go faster. It was just mere moments ago that the spell had come out of nowhere, hitting Harry in the chest while giving his speech. Hermione had fallen to her knees, as she locked her eyes on Harry's lifeless ones in shock. She could not move, she could not breathe.

Sound ceased to exist as she kneeled in front of Harry. Screams were muffled, she couldn't think, she could not find a solution.

The great hall had become a new battlefield, as death eaters appeared, and began firing spell after spell. The remaining order members and a few aurors attending the event jumped into action and began fighting back.

Ron put up a shield around them, holding as steady as he could. "HERMIONE, we have to go!" he yelled looking down at her. "He's gone! GET UP! Hermione!". He had felt the devastating heartbreak of losing another brother, but he could not think about that at the moment. He was an auror, he had to keep people alive, his family alive, keep her alive, for him. He grunted as he felt the exhaustion of his magic failing. They were surrounded, Lucius Malfoy at the front, viciously throwing spells at his shield. Ron looked at Hermione's unmoving body. "HERMIONE NOW!".

Hermione felt her heart begin to beat faster, as she heard the pleading of Ron's voice. She snapped her head up, wand in hand and fired a spell. A force of wind rushed through them and flung the death eaters on to the ground. Ron looked at her, reached for her hand and pulled up hard. He looked at the chaos around him, seeing the destruction, and death eaters making their way to them. He turned to look at her.

"Run Hermione, run and hide," he said softly. Hermione looked at him, panic bursting out of her, as she understood the tone in his voice. "PROTEGO!" She yelled, and another shield went up. Ron looked at her with sad eyes as he fired a stunner.

"No,please, Ron, we need to go together." Hermione begged. Ron looked at her, "I loved you" he said, then his eyes dashed behind her, "Take her now". He looked at her once more, before running straight into battle, straight to his family, shooting spell after spell.

She felt a hand grip her arm and pull her away with force, making their way through the doors. Watching behind her, as Ron was fighting for his life, fighting Lucious Malfoy.

"RON, RON!" She screamed, attempting to remove the hand that gripped her. She saw Ron turn toward her, as she fought to get back to him, before he continued to fight Lucius.

"LET ME GO! LET ME FUCKING GO, RON! RON" She screamed, clawing at the gripped hand.

"I can't Hermione, keep running, he needs you to go" George's voice rang through her,as she looked at him. "We have to get out of the wards, they are right behind us" he said as he kept pulling her.

They turned the corner near the dungeons, as a green spell hit the wall beside them.

"CONFRINGO"

They heard a shout ahead of them, the spell hit between them, forcing them to jump to the side.

They both hit the ground hard. George stood up, recovering quickie and blasted a protego shield on them. The death eaters behind them cornered them against the wall.

"Look what we caught, the little mudblood, and a blood traitor, the master will be happy to see them" a chilling voice said. The death eater removed their mask to show Augustus Rockwood. George stiffened.

Hermione felt the fear creep up her body as she casted a protego shield around them too.

George looked at them, then turned to Hermione, with the same look Ron had given her. "Mione, I need you to run, I'll distract them." He whispered to her, as he reached into his pocket.

Hermione looked up at George with tears falling, shaking her head.

George smiled, "if anyone is going to help win this, it's you Hermione. Freddie always said, to trust you, trust Hermione and that brain of hers. He loved you, you know. Now, RUN!"

Darkness exploded around them, as George threw his Peruvian Instant Darkness Powder to the ground. "GO!" She heard him scream.

"FUCK, kill them! Don't let them escape" Rockwood commanded.

Hermione turned and ran, sending stunners through the dark. Using her hand to navigate she turned and turned through the corridors, she was almost there, almost to the gate. She saw the night sky, she was going to make it. Hermione rushed towards the gate, preparing her wand to apparate.

"LACARNUM INFLAMARE"

Fire erupted in front of her blocking her path. Hissing in pain as the fire burned her arm, she turned quickly to face them. She gasped, she was surrounded, and then she saw him. Dolohov. Hermione fired a protego shield, separating them, and blocking her from the fire which continued to burn behind her.

The death eaters stood waiting as Dolohov made his way to her, stopping at the edge of her shield.

"Hello pet, it's so good to see you again" He smiled at her, peering at her body. "Such a wonderful night isn't it."

Hermione looked at him with disdain but said nothing. Her mind whirling through different spells, as she thought of a way out.

Dolohov walked back and forth looking at her shield, noticing the flickers of exhaustion. "You filth thought we were gone, that our Master was done, but we were patient. We waited in silence as you filth slowly felt at peace." He said, chuckling in triumph. " I will take my time with you pet, you will be my reward for bringing Potter and the Weasleys heads to him"

Hermione felt her heart stop beating, and felt bile rising up into her throat. Tears fell out of her eyes as she took in his words. Her shield flickered, slowly she felt the drain of her magic. Her grief took over her, she couldn't think, she couldn't escape. She looked at the death eaters surrounding her, at Dolohov. She knew she wouldn't be able to escape, there was no time left. Her mind stopped.

'Time' She thought in desperation, as her mind remembered a spell. A spell she found reading at the Black family Library, from the dark spell books, the frozen time spell. She had little magic left, and the spell requires blood sacrifice. She looked at the death eaters, and thought 'I have nothing left'.

Hermione raised her left hand, and made the movements for the runes in the air.

"What's this pet, what are you trying to do, you have nowhere to go, we will have you, I will have you and taste you pet" She heard Dolohov say.

Hermione looked at Dolohov with pure loathing, without a second thought she dropped her shield, raised her wand and yelled "Tempus Stagnum Sanguinem Retrogradus!".

A golden string made out of light shot out of her want, and headed straight for Dolohov faster than he could react. Thud, thud, thud, one by one the death eaters fell lifeless to the ground. With each death the golden light burned brighter around her. As the last death eater fell, a power surge erupted, pushing her to the ground. She looked up, as she felt the change around her, looking up she saw that her surroundings were not moving, her eyes widened realizing the world had frozen in time. Everything was still, for a moment. Then suddenly, a rush of energy and golden light rushed back in, right into her, followed by excruciating pain and anguish. She screamed out but no sound came out of her as the pain continued to ripple through her, as the light blinded her eyes. Then it was gone. She felt gone, as darkness consumed her.

She felt still, for a moment, before feeling everything around her once more. Slowly she opened her eyes, and saw bright sunlight shining.
