Time passed slowly, trapped within these four walls, with no sunset or sunrise, no clocks or windows to tell Light just how long they had trapped him here. Whether it's been one day or one month stuck in this hell with L continuous pestering and trying to get Light to talk, after his… breakdown Light refused to speak, instead, he stared at his cell's walls letting the days pass him by. He wondered what Naomi and Raye were doing, whether they'd found out any information on Teru or Kira.
"It's been two weeks since you've been arrested and no criminals have died," L lied or Light thought it was a lie. The last time it was leaked that L had arrested someone on suspicion of being Kira, the killings stopped the same day and hardly a week had passed until they had sentenced Light to death. If two weeks had passed, then Light should be dead or at least told about his execution.
He glanced up at the camera before lying on his side and closing his eyes. He wasn't planning on sleeping, but the second his eyes close he felt the pull.
Light opened his eyes to find himself staring at a poster of Hideki Ryuga from one of the many movies Sayu was obsessed with.
'I'm in Sayu's room?' Light thought as he turned around. Sure enough, he's in his little sister's room. The room was a mess, dirty clothes scattered across the floor, plates and glasses piling up on her desk. His sister didn't look any better herself, curled up on her clutching a picture frame to her chest as he approached, he saw the picture was on him. The day he and Sayu went to Spaceland, standing behind a character board with their faces poked through. He remembered that day so clearly, it was their summer vacation, their father was at work and their mother was with her friends. Sayu's friends were away so, she dragged Light to Spaceland with her. It's the last time they spent together before their parents became strict with Light, wanting him to spend every waking hour studying for his entrance exams.
"L-light," Sayu sniffed. "T-they said you were dead… that you were Kira. You can't be, you wouldn't k-kill people. They're wrong. Y-you can't be dead, you're my big brother. Y-you can't be gone."
"Oh Sayu," Light whispered, his heart hurting at the sight of his little sister.
"I-I don't b-believe you're Kira. You're not! N-no matter what h-he says. Y-you're another victim. I-I hate this! I-I just want you back. I want my big brother back," Sayu cried.
"I'm sorry Sayu, I'm sorry for leaving you," Light whispered, wrapping his arms around his sister's crying form. His arms passed through her as if he were a ghost, but he didn't care. Instead, he held his arms just over her, pretending he was touching her whilst resting his head just above her own. "I promise, Sayu, I'll make this better. I'll stop Kira and we'll go to Spaceland again. I'll make it up to you, I promise, I'll be a better big brother to you."
Brushing their hand from their face and tucking it behind their ear, they climbed the steps. Their Death Note tucked safely into their bag. No one batted an eye as they strolled past reaching an empty floor opposite Sakura TV, looking at the clock on the wall it read – 16:50 pm.
"Only an hour to go, and then it begins." They grabbed a chair and dragged it over to the window before moving a small table. They pulled out their binoculars and the Death Note settling them down before flopping into the chair. "Soon, the world will know the true power of Kira."
Light wasn't sure what made him snap, breaking his voluntary silence. Maybe seeing his sister like that, broken, begging for him to be alive, that L's attempts for a confession were enough. The constant taunts Kira hadn't killed in weeks, and it confirmed Light's guilt.
"Isn't it time for Kira-Kun to confess? We've caught you red-handed," L taunted. Light stood up, stomping over to the camera, his teeth grinding together.
"Can't you do any better, L? If Kira really has stopped killing, then why aren't I being dragged into an execution site" Light snapped. Challenging L to come into the cell himself and drag him to the execution site himself. He bet his itching to put Light to death.
"You think I wouldn't put it past you to convince UN officials and the Japanese government to agree to kill me without a trial. Tell me L, why am I still alive? Why haven't you killed me! Why aren't I…" Light trailed off.
His body suddenly felt weightless, his mind blanks as the world seems to fade away. The last thing Light feels is something heavy falling away from him as he rises.
When Light came back to himself, he was standing in the Shinigami Realm, in front of the King.
"If you don't find a way to escape in the next day, then L will have you executed, and the old timeline will be reinstated and what you've seen of your family will come true. There is no re-do in this life, Light Yagami," the Shinigami King said, its skull head staring at him.
"SERIOUSLY!" Light shouted. "You pulled me here to remind me of the consequences, the same thing you said three freaking weeks ago! Do you think I'm some kind of idiot… wait, you pulled me here on purpose, didn't you! You're a genius! How long can you keep me here? No, wait, can you also see what's happening back on Earth?"
"I see what I want to see," the Shinigami King said. Light smiled.
"So, you can see what's happening with my body. Oh, this is brilliant! And how long can you hold me here?" Light asked, so many ideas were running through his mind.
"No longer than half an hour or your soul loses its connection with your physical body, and it will rot." Well, that was something nice to think about. He'd previously wondered what happened to Light Yagami of this time, the one who hadn't yet been called Kira and executed for their crimes. Light thought that he might've suppressed the other Light's consciousness, but apparently not. When he came back, his soul killed this body's previous occupant so it could take over its body, Light's certain that was the synopsis of a movie Sayu forced him to watch when they were younger. It's not the first time Light questioned just how his life has taken such a turn that this was the least weird thing that has happened to him, but then again, he has the Shinigami King on speed dial? Mind dial? Something like that.
"Then let's hope L moves quickly," he said, pushing any thoughts of killer souls and rotting bodies out of his mind. He needs to focus on finding Kira and preferably not dying again.
"Yes, as the next hour strikes. The Second Kira rises."
