Light pushed past people on the street, ignoring the angry shouts sent his way. He needs to get as much distance between L's headquarters/ prison as possible before L or his associates to come after him. The Shinigami King's warning is blearing in his mind. The Second Kira! The Second Kira's tape will air on Sakura TV today turn six pm, and Light didn't know what time it was! It's getting dark; the sun is slowly setting, so it must be approaching six.

Turning down another street, Light barely registered what was happening as something grabbed him from behind and pulled him from the ground and into the sky. Light stared at the two claw-like hands wrapped around his arms.

"Ryuk?" Light said as he turned slightly to get a better look at the Shinigami. He hadn't seen Ryuk since their first verbal encounter four months ago, which doesn't explain why the Shinigami suddenly turned up now. Unless he knows about the Second Kira and tries to keep Light from stopping the broadcast, but that goes against everything Ryuk said last time about him being a spectator in all this and not helping either Kira, L or Light.

"Hey, Light-o. Been a while," Ryuk said as he flew them over buildings towards the small park.

"Why are you here, Ryuk? What does Kira want?" Light asked the second his feet were back on the ground.

"Nothing Light-o, I'm just bored," Ryuk said as he stretched his wings out.

"Kira doesn't keep you entertained anymore," Light scoffed as he turned away from Ryuk and started heading to the exit to the park. He needed to get to Sakura TV, and the sudden appearance of Kira's Shinigami wouldn't slow him down.

"Hyuk, Kira's entertaining, but so are you. I want to figure you out, Light-o. It's scarce for the old man to get involved with you humans, especially those who'd died," Ryuk said. Light looked up at Ryuk.

"What? And you're not going to ask me," he said, getting out of the park and darting across the road.

"And where's the fun in that Light-o." Light looked back at the Shinigami, resisting his urge to roll his eyes before focusing back on where he's going. Weaving in and out, Light broke through the crowd as he finally arrived at Sakura TV.

'Going in through the front will draw too much attention to myself. I need to keep myself hidden before the broadcast starts. It's too risky to stop the broadcast from happening completely; the Second Kira is probably watching already and might take some action against Sakura TV if they refuse to comply with the Second Kira's demands. It's best to let the broadcast start before interpreting it,' Light thought as he slipped down a back alley. Last time Sakura TV shut itself down, locking all the doors, but if he's lucky. Light grinned. Slowly pushing the side door open, Light looks behind him, ensuring no one is following him before slipping inside.

He hides in the bathroom, waiting for everything to quieten down. The small window opened so he could hear when the broadcast started. Ryuk stayed quiet, watching Light with interest. Light didn't stare back, keeping his eyes on the ground. Light wasn't sure how he would stop the broadcast; he can't go in demanding they stop the broadcast with no plan. Unlike his father, he doesn't have a gun, and he doesn't have time to find any threatening weapon he can use, but he still needs to stop it once it's started and get the tapes away from Sakura TV. Maybe he should try and steal the tapes before the… no, he can't risk the reporters' and staff's lives. The Second Kira needs to see the broadcast start and for part of their message being heard before Light stops everything.

"In other words, all our reporters and staff here are Kira's hostages. Aside from that, we have a professional obligation to share this message with you. I assure you that this is not a hoax, and that Sakura TV is not airing this tape for the purpose of sensationalism," a voice drifts through the open window. So, it's begun.

"Huh, what's this?" Ryuk said before leaning out of the building to watch the broadcast on the nearest Jumbotron.

"Four days ago, our program director here at Sakura TV received four tapes. After a thorough examination, there could be no doubt that they were from Kira himself. The first tape we received contained a prediction of the time of death for two suspected criminals recently arrested. And as predicted, at the exact time that Kira had specified, both men died suddenly of heart attacks yesterday," the reporter said.

Light closed his eyes, allowing the words to wash over him. He remembers this night before clearly, sitting on the sofa with Sayu as his mother is at the hospital with their father. Sayu clinging to him in horror as they watched the whole thing unfold as three police officers died right in front of them before a vehicle crashed through Sakura TV. Later, Light discovered his father had fled the hospital, stolen and driven the vehicle there to stop the broadcast. At the time, Light had felt proud of his father, but then, six days later, the same man arrested Light for being Kira. Now, Light didn't know how he felt about the man. "Kira has instructed us to air this second tape today at exactly 5:59 p.m., and we intend to comply with his demands. This tape should offer proof of his powers by predicting yet another death. Beyond that, we understand that it contains a message to all the people of the world from Kira. And now, the video."

"I am Kira. If this video is being aired on April 18th, at exactly 5:59 p.m., as I requested, then the time now is 5:59. 47, 48, 49, please change the channel to Taiyo TV. The new anchor, Mr Kazuhiko Hibima, would die of a heart attack at exactly 6 o'clock. This is punishment. I will present you with another victim. My new target is NHN TV commentator Mr Seiji Komaizumi, who's scheduled to appear on a live broadcast. He too has dared to defy Kira," the voice on the video said. Light opened his eyes; Ryuk still had his head out of the building, watching. Soon the police officers will arrive, and Light's not sure whether he can save them. How far will the Second Kira go until they realise they must flee? Will they leave the second the broadcast is stopped or hang around to find who stopped it?

"Now that you've seen proof of my powers, you should have no trouble believing that I am Kira. People of the world, please listen to me. The last thing I want to do is kill the innocent. I hate evil and love justice. I've always thought of the police as allies, not as enemies. I intend to create a new world. A perfect world that is free from evil. If you agree to join me in my mission, I know we can make it happen. And as long as no one tries to catch me, I promise the innocent will not die."

"Even if you disagree with me, I only ask that you not publicise your views in the media. If you can do that, you will be spared. All you have to do now is be patient. I'll create a better world that we can all enjoy. Say goodbye to the world as you know it. Soon we'll have a new world brought by benevolence and inhabited by kind-hearted, honest people." Light exited the stall and headed towards the studios, peeking inside each room until he finally found the one they were broadcasting in.

A man, short and heavy-set with dark-brown hair, had his back to the door.

"Our audience rating should go up 60. No, more like 70% after this!" the man said, sickening Light.

"People are dying, and all you care about is views," Light said. The man turned around, startled, his eyes narrowing when they landed on Light.

"Who the hell are you? Who let a kid in here!" the man, Light's eyes looked to above his head – Hitoshi Demegawa, said.

"I let myself in. This broadcast stops now, and I want every copy of the tapes. Do I make myself clear?" Light said, closing the distance between himself and Demegawa. Demegawa looked at him for a moment, then started laughing.

"Ooh, so scary. I'm shaking in my shoes," Demegawa laughed. Light narrowed his eyes as the urge to throw up his one hand washed over him, and he did. Throwing his right hand in front of him, a black mist shot out from it, hitting Demegawa in the chest and sending him flying into the servers behind him. The lights started flickering as Light approached Demegawa's cowering body; the black mist encased his hands as he raised them in front of him. Demegawa's face paled further as his eyes watched something behind Light as if something stretched out, filling the studio with its size. Light didn't look over his shoulder to see what the man was staring at, a part of him scared of what he might find from the sudden weight on his back.

"I want every single tape you were sent and their copies. I won't ask you a second time. Now, do I make myself clear?" There was something different with Light's voice, something darker. Demegawa nodded, his body trembling in fear.

"I-I got it. I'll give 'em to y-you. N-no p-problem, j-just don't hurt me!" the man said, closing his eyes and curling into himself as if to defend himself from an incoming attack. Light lowered his hands, the black mist fading, and the lights stopped flickers. The weight on his back vanished as if it had never been there in the first place.

"Good," Light said, stepping away and walking back to the studio's entrance, blocking it in case any of the staff or Demegawa made a run for it.

"G-get him the t-tapes," Demegawa said. Light watched as the staff scrambled to grab every tape and put it into a paper bag.

"Hyuk, you are far more interesting than any human I've ever met, Light-o," Ryuk said from behind him. Light hadn't sensed the Shinigami during whatever the hell had just happened, but he must've followed Light from the bathroom all the way here, watching in silence at everything that just went down. Light didn't want to think about it; he's never experienced anything like that before. Looking down at his hands, Light half expected them to be still encased in black mist, but they weren't. They didn't look any different to what he's used to seeing.

What just came over him? Did he suddenly have powers, but he can't? He's sure the Shinigami King would've said something, especially if they'd help Light track down Kira, but how many people had the Shinigami King done this deal with? Who knows what kind of side effects being sent back in time had? God, his head hurt thinking about it. Pushing thoughts about weird supernatural abilities aside, Light needed to focus. Armed with a bag of tapes and a warning that if Demegawa and Sakura TV did anything to endorse Kira again, that's he'll be back, Light left the studio.

The side door he snuck in was still unlocked, so slipping back out was easy. The broadcast had suddenly stopped airing halfway through the Second Kira's video, and to Light's surprise, there weren't any dead bodies outside Sakura TV. What he did find was a girl sneaking out of the building opposite Sakura TV. His eyes shot above her head – no lifespan. This was the Second Kira; she's still here.

Whatever possessed him to dart across the street, grabbing her arm and pulling her back inside the building she'd just left, Light didn't know, but recently he's found himself acting more reckless than usual. He is not fully thinking through what he's doing or saying, so really his actions should no longer surprise him. Letting her go, Light stood, blocking the exit as he stared her up and down.

"Hello, Misa Amane, or should I say the Second Kira."
