Light unwrapped his arms from around his legs. Naomi was in front of him, her eyes filled with worry as she tried to comfort him. Sayu's dead; in the old timeline, she… Light's heart was breaking into a million tiny pieces at the sight of his little sister. She didn't deserve that, the treatment from their father, none of it.

"Light, sweetie, what happened?" Naomi said. Light looked at her, his hands shaking as he unwrapped his arms from his legs. "Did you have another vision?"

Light nodded his head, "Sayu… died."

"Oh, sweetie, I'm so sorry," Naomi said, wrapping her arms around him and pulling him against her. Light buried his head into her shoulder, her hand stroking his back. Sayu died, his little sister died, and Light wasn't there to protect her, to shield her from their father's abuse. If only he hadn't been convicted of being Kira, if only Light had kept his head down and not drawn any attention to himself, but how, he didn't know what made L think Light was Kira. No matter how long he racks his brain searching even tiny details, from Kira's appearance to his execution.

Light pushed Naomi away, crawling over to his bag on Naomi's table. Opening the strap, Light shoved his hand inside, grabbing his phone before pulling it out. He knew it was dangerous that L would know his phone number and be tracking it the second he turned it on, but at that moment, Light didn't care if L found him or if he was dragged back to that cell. None of that mattered; all he cared about was hearing her voice, listening to the sound of his sister still alive in this timeline, and that was the only thing which mattered most to Light in the end.

Light opened his phone and pulled up his contacts, scrolling through them before finding Sayu's. He pressed ring, holding his phone to his ear, and listened to the ringing tone. It rang and rang, almost cutting off when she finally picked up.

"L-light, is that you?" Sayu said, her voice washing over him in waves as the tension in his body left him. "Please answer me."

Light opened his mouth but stopped; what could he say. Hi Sayu, sorry for the random call, but I just saw you die in the future, and I needed to hear your voice; bye? No, he couldn't do that to her; he should hang up, pretend he rang the wrong number and turn his phone off. L could come through the door with an army of SWAT any second, and his sister shouldn't be involved.

"Dad rang us. Said you'd gone missing, and if we heard anything, we needed to call him immediately. I've noticed how distant you've become like you were distant before, with how much pressure Mom and Dad put on you, but this was different. It's like you couldn't look at us without this guilty expression gracing your face. What happened, Light?" Sayu said. Light froze, and their father had contacted his mother and sister; what's L planning?

"What did Dad say?" Light said. Naomi stared at him, confused, but he waved her off; he'd explain everything once he was off the phone. Naomi nodded, sitting beside him to comfort him.

"That's not important right now! Light, are you safe? Are you mixed up in something dangerous?" Sayu said, panic filling her voice. Light's heart broke; he never wanted anything like this to happen to Sayu; she shouldn't be scared for him.

"Please, Sayu. Tell me what he said," Light asked again. Sayu sighed.

"Not much. He rang late last night and said that you were missing and that if you rang or came home, we should contact him immediately. Then he hung up. What's going on, Light?" Sayu said. Their father must've done that against L's wishes, as L would know that Light would put his family at risk like that.

"I'm safe. I can't explain everything it's… it's complicated, but I promise that I'll come home once I've dealt with this. I will help you with as much homework as you want, and we'll do whatever activities you want to do," Light promised, "Goodbye for now, Sayu."

"No! Light, wait," Sayu said, but Light didn't let her finish; he couldn't give her time to change his mind. Light hung up and turned his phone off, dropping it onto the floor. Naomi opened her arms, and Light fell into them. Her warmth comforted him whilst Light tried to figure out what he should do now.

L was perplexed by the mystery surrounding Light Yagami. His intelligence, the incident with Raye Penber, his strong sense of justice, his father's connection with the NPA and the Kira Investigation, as well as his actions in the cell and his attempt to flee being arrested, all pointed to the chance of Light being Kira. Everything made sense in L's mind; all he needed was the evidence to convict him, but last night changed everything. Not only is there a Second Kira, but Light saw his face (poor planning on L's part); he spoke L's real name, but nothing happened. He should be dead; Kira wants him dead; if Light is Kira, then Light should've killed him before sunset. Yes, it would be undeniable evidence of Light's guilt, but would that matter when he has the opportunity to get rid of his greatest enemy?

L could only come to two conclusions about his continuous existence. One, Light is keeping him alive to kill at a later date or two, Light isn't Kira. It's hard to swallow that L could've been so far from the truth chasing down Light whilst Kira continued killing elsewhere. Still, if Light isn't Kira, all his prior actions make even less sense; why run if he didn't have anything to hide? Why would Raye Penber believe he came into contact with Kira if it wasn't Light he was talking about? So many questions were racing through his mind, keeping him distracted that he missed the UN meeting.

Light Yagami, just who are you?

"Ryuzaki, I have received CCTV footage from Sakura TV," Watari said as he entered the room. L looked over; that was the second mystery he needed to solve. Last night, Sakura TV willingly played a message from Kira, or a Second Kira, but partway through the message, they suddenly pulled the video, and no one could contact the station. When the police finally got into the building, they found the director of Sakura TV, Demegawa, cowering in Studio Five, muttering about some demon and the tapes were gone. Whoever had gotten into Sakura TV before then had taken the tapes, terrifying Demegawa and his staff before leaving. L needed to know who.

"The individual entered and exited through an unlocked side door; we've pulled footage from the camera covering the door," Watari said as he switched the TV on after putting the tape in. L took the remote and fast forward through most of the footage of Sakura TV staff entering and exiting through the side door. From 4 pm, no one left, with everyone preparing for the six o'clock broadcast. L stopped speeding through the footage at five thirty, watching closely for the door to open.

"Ryuzaki," the hotel door swung open and in came Aizawa, "We've got the sketch of the person who took them tapes and… you need to see it."

L took the sketch and froze at the drawing of a familiar face, a face he'd been staring at for the past month the teen was locked up - Light Yagami. The side door squeaked, and L stared at the tape at 5.55 pm. Light slipped through the door into Sakura TV and disappeared down the hallway. Light has the tapes; He somehow got from his prison (a thirty-minute walk at best) to Sakura TV before the broadcast started. Light… Light knew about the broadcast; he knew that the Second Kira would spread their message and went to stop it.

L's head hurt. How how did Light know? Was he working with or knew the Second Kira? If so, why would he stop the broadcast? The Second Kira idolises the first and wants to meet them; the broadcast was their way of getting the first's attention. If Light was Kira, then he couldn't trust the Second Kira giving up any information about how they kill, but then that circles back to if Light is Kira, then why isn't L dead? What's going on?

Light knows something, something that's keeping him five steps ahead of L, and the only way L's going to find out is if he finds Light. He needs to find Light.

L stared at the blurry picture of Light on the CCTV. Just what are you, Light Yagami?

He wasn't meant to interfere; Light was meant to deal with this alone. Dealing with Kira, with L using the tools the Shinigami King had already provided. Light led to his capture and was leading to his second demise. He shouldn't have interfered; he needs to stay out of it, not to be seen favouring a human. If the other Shinigami knew he'd brought a human back and turned them into… he'd gone against his rules to never interfere with the human realm.

The UN meeting L attended in the first timeline led to Light's death, the police agencies pushing for an end to Kira's terror and slaughter so that anyone suspected of being him would die for his crimes. L had no choice but to let Light die. Had L attended that meeting, had Light not escaped, the events would have unfolded as they did before. Light would have died for Kira's crime, the original timeline reinstated, and Kira's warped justice would have returned tenfold.

From now on, the Shinigami King must stay out of it, but should Light succeed. Should he find Kira, then maybe, just maybe, he'll survive the monster that awaits him.

Light arrived in Aoyama. Naomi followed him, her face covered should she need to intervene and protect Light from Misa Amane and her Shinigami eyes. Honestly, Light wasn't sure if he could convince Amane from Kira's side. Still, he has to try to save her from the cruel clutches of Kira and his deformed ideology of justice. He found her sitting on a bench, watching as people walked past her, to know how dangerous she was, how much power she held with her eyes and the death note, and no one around her knew.

Light sat down, looking out at the array of shops.

"Hello, Amane," Light said, "I'm surprised you came."

"You intrigue me, halfling."
