"Stupid ass kid!" The demon cursed once he was transported right back where he came from. "Why couldn't he just scream, cry, and piss himself like other children do when they get scared? Since when did kids start growing balls early?"
"Considering who spawned him I'm not surprised." The other demon said. "Little shit will probably grow up to be deranged just like his old man. I didn't think Al still had some of that nightmarish sociopathy in him. God you should have seen what he did to me when I swallowed up his brat, and he's mortal now! Oh the humiliation! Though not as humiliating as your defeat."
"What the hell does that mean?"
"I was defeated by a mortal man, you were defeated by a mortal child! Ha! One that hadn't even hit puberty yet!"
"Shut up you electrified asshole! We both botched the job which means the boss will be pissed off at both of us!"
"You're only halfway right Val." Both demons turned stiff when they realized that their superior had arrived to reprimand them sooner than expected. "I am far beyond the point of being pissed off."
"Sir I know we failed to get her. But if you just send us back to earth we will not fail this time. The kid was a surprise, we didn't know what to expect from him. But we do now, so we'll fix him to where he won't interfere and then bring his mother to you."
But the dark figure who reigned over them only let out a laugh that made them quake and cripple with intense fear.
"Valentino." He finally spoke. "Do you honestly think I would actually send you back after the stunt you tried to pull with her? Did you really think I wouldn't find out? That I wasn't watching your every move while you were up there?"
The demon called Valentino felt his terror in crease when he realized that the tyrant was referring to his attempted rape of Charlie.
"Now wait a minute, let me explain. I know I may have crossed a line but it was really for your benefit. Think about it, if she thought it was her husband who raped her she'd hate him. That's what you want right?"
"Do you think that I am an idiot?!" He thundered with rage. "I know that wasn't your goal at all you damn piece of filth! And even if it was I still wouldn't have allowed you to do that to her! I told you specifically that you were not to touch her!"
He seized Valentino by the throat and hoisted him up as roughly as possible.
"I was a fool to trust you! You're scum that even I find repulsive! And for what you've done you'll suffer a fate worst than the fires of Hell itself!"
"Please!" Valentino choked. "I...I couldn't help myself! I had urges! Natural urges I had to fulfill! You understand that more than anyone! I beg your forgiveness!"
"Forgiveness?" He laughed. "You really think I'm the forgiving type? You're not just vile, you're also stupid!"
The second demon watched in fascinated horror as Valentino was subjected to torture that was dreadful and inhuman, that it could never be spoken of. There was wretched screeches, flesh tearing, bones breaking, flames scorching, and then silence. Silence and Valentino was out of sight.
"And you!" The merciless figure said turning his attention to the demon who remained. "You are just as deserving of the same punishment!"
"Me? What did I do? I never touched her!"
"But you touched the boy! You tried to kill him! I told you that I wanted her and the children alive and unharmed!"
"Well what else would have distracted them long enough for us to grab the girl? Besides you don't even want the boy! You said he took far too much after his father for your liking!"
"Nevertheless he's still part of her flesh and blood! He is still a child that she bore and that makes him precious! He may not be as akin to myself as much as the other one but I will not see him harmed! No child of hers will ever be harmed if I can prevent it!"
He made ready to do to him what he done to Valentino but this demon acted fast due to being a witness to what was to come. He made himself scarce at light speed and the figure, now further enraged, gave the order for his subordinates to seek out the fugitive and capture him by any means necessary. That slime wouldn't get away with what he had done. He'd make sure of that. But for now he had bigger fish to fry.
"Damn insubordinate fools! I should've known better than to trust them to bring her back! Trusting anyone down here do to exactly as I say would be like trusting a Nazi to protect a Jew!" He spat. "Well as the old saying goes, if you want something done right do it yourself."
He made ready to make another trip to the world above and was determined not to return alone. He was becoming more desperate. More impatient. He couldn't allow anymore failures. Not when he had come so far and suffered so much. He would reclaim what he believed was rightfully his and nothing would stand in his way. Nothing.
Before he left he glanced over at a large portrait that hung on the wall. A family portrait. His family portrait. Looking at it brought back memories that made his heart sore, because the family in that portrait had been long ago torn apart.
"Get out!" The woman who held his heart had screeched in a voice which had been completely deprived of all love, replaced by an unforgivable pain.
"Dearest please." He reached for her.
"Don't touch me! Don't you ever touch me again!" She cried with angry tears. "I can't bear to be touched by you! I can't even bear to look at you anymore!"
"Please don't do this. I love you."
"Love?! You love me huh?! Just like how you loved our daughter?! You don't love! How could you? How could you possibly be capable of love and still do what you did?!"
"It wasn't my fault!" He argued.
"Oh yes! It's never your fault is it?! It wasn't your fault that you were banished! It wasn't your fault that they ate that fruit! And it wasn't your fault that she's gone!"
Her voice was so broken.
"Damn you! Don't you dare give me that damn excuse! It is your fault! You did this! Just you! You're the reason this happened! You're the reason my baby is dead and I'll never forgive you for that!"
"I didn't mean for this to happen."
"You think that matters?! You didn't mean it but it still happened because of your actions!"
"They were just sinners! Their lives meant nothing!"
"Their lives meant something to your daughter! But you didn't care about that, did you? All you cared about was your damnable ego! All these years, thinking you were so much better than him...Telling me that he was prideful and egotistical, that he valued his position more than his own children, I believed that. And I couldn't understand why he banished you. But after what you've done, now I do! It's because you're incapable of putting anyone before yourself! Even the people you love!"
He reached for her again. She slapped him so hard across the face that it drew blood.
"You betrayed me! You betrayed me because you caused me to lose the most the precious thing in our lives! How could I ever stay with you after that?! How I could ever still love you?!"
He watched her fall to her knees, bury her face in her hands, and cry.
"My baby! My poor, poor baby! Oh God please have mercy on her! Please! It's all I'll ever ask of you! Have mercy on my child!"
It was the first he had ever seen her pray and it hurt even more. Seeing her turn to 'him' of all others for comfort and help. It made him feel almost as sick as watching the tragedy that caused her to leave him. But he was going to fix it. He was going to fix everything. He would bring back what they had lost, she'd forgive him, and then everything would go back to the way it was supposed to be. He would have his family back.
"It wasn't my fault." He kept telling himself. "It wasn't. I had to do it. I had to. So it can't be my fault."
Delusional. It means to hold idiosyncratic beliefs or impressions that are contradicted by reality or rational argument. In simpler terms, it is when a person continues to believe something even if it isn't true and that's what he had been doing for centuries. Refusing to believe and accept the truth and holding on to a false idea he came up with. Those who are delusional become this way because they feel it would be better to live with an ideal belief of what they want than to live with the reality of something they don't like. Unaware that it would actually be better and much easier for them to accept what is real.
Would he ever give up his delusions and face reality? Acknowledge and accept the truth regarding the tragic event that cost him everything? That is not for me to say. At least not now because now he was still choosing to see life through his delusional mindset.
"You'll see." He told the portrait. "I'll make it right. I'll make it all right again and the one truly responsible for destroying our family will pay."
