Chapter 14

Mew sets foot in Loguetown!

Or

A Marine Captain, a revolutionary, and a pirate all walk into a bar.

"Alright, does everyone have their lists?" Nami asked the gathered crew, Luffy immediately raised his hand. "Everyone except for Luffy." Luffy dropped his hand back down. The rest of the crew then confirmed that they did have their lists.

"Does everyone have their backup lists in case something goes wrong?" Once more the crew, sans Luffy, confirmed that they did have their backup lists.

"Finally, does everyone have their GTFO lists for when despite all of our preparation everything goes wrong and we have to leave in a hurry?" This time even Luffy answered in confirmation.

Now fully prepared for anything, the Strawhats split up and filtered into the bustling city of Loguetown, each one determined to get what they needed for the next leg of their journey.

Mew flitted back and forth in the air above the streets of Loguetown. It was currently indulging in one of its favorite hobbies, people watching. The places that Luffy and crew had visited had been fun in their own unique ways. But none had quite enough people for a good spot of people watching.

Loguetown was different though, it was more like one of the cities from back in Mew's world. Which meant that the opportunities to cause chaos were nearly limitless.

Mew's ears twitched as it stealthily flew down to street level, careful to hide itself behind the fabric of the stall that it's target was in. A quick use of Sleep Powder later had the fortune teller inside of the tent fast asleep.

Mew used Psychic to move the sleeping man behind the tent, so that he couldn't be spotted, and then Transformed into an exact copy of the fortuneteller.

Mew settled itself into the comfy high backed chair and rested it's elbows upon the small round table, hands gently pressed against either side of the crystal ball.

Mew didn't have to wait long until it's first victim- er customer, pushed the entrance flap aside and sat in the chair across from Mew. He was an older diminutive man, barely reaching 4ft tall, with gray hair and a bald spot that he didn't even try to cover. He was dressed in fairly high quality clothing that was getting on in its years but was otherwise in good shape.

"Oh great and mighty Sawawawami, tell me what my future holds."

Mew swirls its hands mysteriously around the crystal ball as it channels Future Sight into it. The crystal ball fills with a dark gray mist that seems to be lit from within by a crackling light. The man stares into it, eyes growing wider and wider by the second, before with a scream of horror he shoots to his feet and rushes out of the tent.

Popping out of its transformation Mew looks between the still swinging current and the crystal ball. When nothing else happens for several seconds Mew grows bored and shoots out of the tent. Instantly it crashes into the chest of someone that was about to step inside.

Mew tumbles back through the air as it squeals out what may or may not be expletives. Eventually righting itself Mew looks down at the man that it had crashed into. A man with blonde hair, a hat with goggles that he was still picking up, and the worst case of blocked memories that Mew has ever seen.

"Wha-?" Is all the man has time to get out before Mew latches onto his face like a pink Facehugger, tail even wrapped around his throat to complete the image. Not that anyone in this universe would understand the reference. Letting out a panicked shout the man tries to yank Mew off of his face while a man in a green cloak and a tattoo on his face laughs so hard that he's bent double.

Just as suddenly as Mew had latched on it let's go, shooting off down the streets with its task complete. That being the unlocking of the man's memories, even if they would still be jumbled for a bit. Unless he happened to encounter someone he knew in the next couple of minutes.

But what were the chances of that?

Pretty good with Mew involved, as the pink blur shot into a bar. Chased by the goggle hatted man, whose companion was still several streets back while wiping tears from the corners of his eyes. Mew utilizing the several seconds of a head start to zoom beneath Luffy's hat, much to the confusion of the bartender and the man that Luffy had been talking to moments before.

"I think I might be lost." Luffy proclaims in a stunning bit of self awareness. He looked down the street to his left, a fairly empty one, to his right, also fairly empty except for a small booth and tent, and finally straight which was also basically empty.

"You sir! You there in that lovely straw hat!"

Luffy looked over at the small booth to see a merchant with blue hair waving to him. Curious Luffy ran on over, pausing in front of the low table on which a golden fish was displayed in a glass tank.

"Wow! What is it?"

"This my fine fellow is a golden Magikarp! Look at its shimmering golden scales, marvel at its majestic fins, see the shining intelligence in its eyes! This magnificent fish can be yours for the low price of 10 million berri!"

The speaker stood on the table next to the tank, barely taller than the tank itself. This small merchant was wearing a black tuxedo jacket, pants, and a black newscap. Luffy barely paid him any attention as he stared at the Magikarp, the Pokemon staring gormlessly back. Neither one having a thought in their empty heads.

"Uh sir?" Meowth asked as he gently prodded Luffy's arm for the fifth time without any response, sharing a confused look at Jesse and James, who could only shrug in response.

"The execution platform!" Luffy's sudden exclamation startled the Team Rocket Trio so badly that they fell over.

"Hey, what's the big idea?!" James shouted as he sprang back to his feet, only to find that Luffy was already halfway down the street and waving back to them.

"Shihihihi, my bad! I have to be somewhere though and Nami told me to not get distracted. By the way, the Magikarp said that you only painted her gold!" Luffy vanished around the corner as he finished speaking.

"Did that guy just say that the Magikarp told him?" Meowth stated as the three of them slowly turned their heads to stare at the Magikarp. The Pokemon not giving the slightest of responses as it floated on the tank.

Unaware of the confusion that he had caused, Luffy once more managed to get himself lost. He ducked into a nearby bar this time and soon enough was distracted once more by a certain smoking man. The two shared an interesting conversation until a small pink blur slammed into Luffy's chest, sending both him and the blur toppling over the bar counter.

Everything had been fine. He was in Loguetown with Dragon so that the man could see his son off before the son headed into the Grand Line. It wasn't supposed to be a hard mission, hell it wasn't even supposed to be an exciting mission.

So why was Sabo currently sprinting down the street after a pink flying thing? Incidentally leaving Dragon behind as the man laughed himself horse?

Probably because the pink thing had latched onto his face and then did something. Something that had left him with a pounding headache.

As the creature once again dodged out of Sabo's grasp he stifled a grumble of frustration. His Observation Haki wasn't the best but it shouldn't have a problem with something from the East Blue of all places! Instead it was providing him with absolutely nothing, zip, zilch, nada. It was easily the strangest encounter that Sabo had ever had. Well except for that one time with Luffy and Ace, but they had all agreed to never talk about that.

If the pink creature hadn't darted into a bar at that exact moment Sabo might have been able to better examine that memory. Seconds after the creature had gone into the bar Sabo burst in after it and rapidly assessed its inhabitants.

One very startled bartender, Smoker, Loguetown's resident Marine captain, and standing up from behind the counter, Monkey D Luffy. The pink creature draped over Luffy's shoulders like a shawl, as it stared at Sabo with glittering amused black eyes. Sabo stared at Luffy and Luffy stared back. Neither speaking for several long seconds.

Smoker just looked on, confused as to what in the hell was going on. This was more action then Loguetown usually had to deal with in a day. And Smoker still hadn't found that Strawhat pirate. Even if he had he wouldn't be informing that upstart Marine captain that had arrived a few days ago. At least not until the pirate captain was in his prison cells.

"L…Luffy?" Sabo's voice cracked as he spoke, overcome by a rush of emotions and newly unlocked memories.

"Sabo?" Luffy was stunned for a moment, his childhood friend was alive and standing in front of him. Sabo was alive!

Mew casually slipped off of Luffy's shoulders and dropped to the bar counter. Where it walked over to Smoker before staring up at him. Smoker finding himself staring back.

"SABO!" Luffy shouted as he tackled Sabo back through the door that he had recently entered through. Mew zipped after the pair, abandoning the half a second long staring contest with Smoker in the process.

Mew floated behind the pair as they rapidly exchanged tales of what they had been up to after Sabo had disappeared and presumed to be dead. It didn't take long before conversation shifted to Sabo's lost memories, how Mew had brought them back, and on that point what in the hell Mew was.

"Mew is Mew, mystery cat, mascot and beloved crewmate of my crew!" Luffy proudly boasted while at the same time managing to explain nothing whatsoever to Sabo. This conversation lasted until Sabo finally managed to guide the pair back to where Dragon was waiting. There was no sign of his earlier laughing fit on the man's face, though his eyes seemed to almost sparkle as he looked at Luffy.

"Let me introduce you to the man that saved my life and commander of the Revolutionary Army, Dragon!"

"And Dragon, this is my little brother-" Before Sabo could finish however Dragon interrupted him.

"Monkey D Luffy, my son and apparently brother of my second in command as well."

Luffy picked at his nose as he looked blankly between the two. Mew meanwhile nearly dropped out of the air with laughter.

"I'm your father, Luffy." Dragon finally said with a twinkle in his eye.

"I have a dad!?"

Mew smacked the back of Luffy's head with its tail, making Luffy's head wobble as Sabo facepalmed and Dragon broke into another fit of laughter.

Zoro looked through the barrel of cheap swords while he continued to ignore the chatter of the Not-Kuina, who also happened to be a marine. Zoro didn't need the swords honestly, not with Wado and the two that Mew had given him after his fight with Mihawk. But he had been walking around and accidentally ran into the woman just outside of a shop that sold swords. He'd quickly apologized before ducking into the store to get away from her only for the woman to come in after him saying that she had business here.

"And that's why pirates and criminals shouldn't be allowed to have Grade swords."

"Uhuh." He mumbled noncommittally and continued to search through the barrel of swords.

He had just brushed his hand against the hilt of one sword when something like an electric shock zapped him. At his waist the twin swords Pairobla shifted and seemed to quiver excitedly.

Pokemon Ability discovered!

Pairobla: Sword Trace

When exposed to swords of especially high craftsmanship or of exceptional quality, Pairobla copies fragments of that power to improve its own abilities. (Copies all positive stat changes used by a Pokemon in battle)

Mew glanced back at the Pokedex attached to its tail as the thing unprompted suddenly reeled off a load of information. Ignoring the device, Mew flitted around Dragon, Sabo, and Luffy who soon returned to their own conversation.

Grasping the hilt of the sword that had shocked him Zoro slowly drew it from the barrel.

"I'll sell you any sword in that barrel except that one! That's Sandai Kitetsu its-" Zoro tuned out the rest of the shopkeepers spiel about the sword, only vaguely noting that it was said to be cursed.

The sword radiated an intense untamed bloodlust, one that spoke to how all the swordsmen that had tried to wield it before had failed and been consumed.

"You keep a cursed sword like this in a discount bin?! This should have been brought to the Navy's attention immediately so that it doesn't fall into the hands of a pirate or criminal! How many lives do you think that sword has taken because of its curse huh?!"

"Tch."

Not-Kuina, Tashigi he mentally corrected, she had mentioned her name, and the shop owner turned their heads towards him.

"Oh? You think differently do you?"

"Clearly they didn't have enough willpower to overcome the sword."

"I'll have you know that several well known swordsman have died because they wielded cursed blades, people with much stronger wills then a pirate or a criminal, people like-"

Zoro, not wanting to hear her spiel any longer, grabbed Sandai Kitetsu's sheath and shoved it into Tashigi's hands.

"A true swordsman wouldn't let a simple thing like a curse stop them from wielding a sword. A swordsman that buys into the curse and lets the sword determine their fate doesn't deserve the title of swordsman, all they deserve is to be called berserkers.

You want to take swords like this away from pirates and criminals? Then I challenge you to prove it, prove that you have the conviction to overcome anything in your path to your goal, prove that you won't let something like a curse stop you from your dream!"

Angrily, Tashigi puffed up and glared at Zoro before glaring at the sword he was still holding out to her. Finally, with a quick glance at the shopkeeper, she grabbed the sheath.

"Fine! You want me to prove it? Then I'll prove it! I'll show you I have the conviction to make my dream a reality!"

So putting words to action, Tashigi whipped Sandai Kitetsu from its sheath and tossed the blade up towards the ceiling. Then stuck her right arm out directly in the path of the blade's descent, her eyes fixed on Zoro.

"Chief Petty Officer Tashigi!" A Marine shouted as he burst into the shop and skidded to a stop at the sight that greeted him.

Tashigi was bawling, tears running down her face as she clutched a pair of swords to her chest. All while the shop owner and his wife tried desperately to calm her. It took a few minutes to get Tashigi back into the proper state before she was able to explain what had happened to the recruit.

Sandai Kitetsu had come down tang first and rolled harmlessly off of her arm before sinking almost all the way into the floor. The weird person that she had run into seemed to be impressed and told her to keep holding of that conviction before he left. Which was when the shopkeeper presented her with the second sword, Yubashiri, whereupon Tashigi became overcome by emotion and started crying.

"Anyways ma'am you need to see this new bounty poster right away!"

Tashigi looked down at the first paper before letting out a strangled sort of squeak. On the paper was a picture of Luffy and Mew standing in front of Arlong's ruined palace. The focus of the picture was clearly Mew however and the words written on the page made that even more clear.

Wanted!

Alive!

"Pink Menace" Mew

500 million Berri

It was the highest bounty to have ever come out of the East Blue. Heck, it was the highest initial bounty for a newcomer pirate ever.
