The Spartan of the Planet of the apes

Responses to questions or statements:

-ZILLAFAN: Know where I can find that script for that? The Beneath the Planet of the Apes: Planet of the Men, never heard of it.

- Well yeah. I kind of already knew that as they were limited with the technology they had available back then.

-TK0421: I do plan on having some changes to have Six not be too overpowered, as you can see in this chapter. But yeah, he's going to be a real game changer for the humans.

-For sure, what you typed was exactly what I was thinking. The film only portrays her as a villain since it takes place from Noa's and the ape's point of view. Besides, flooding the bunker was the only real option she had. They were surrounded by Proximus's army, her revolver had at most five more rounds in it, and heavily outnumbered. What else could she have done? Mae did literally nothing wrong.

Honestly, if it were up to me, I would have her stay true to her beliefs and ideals despite the bond she developed with Noa. Have her remain as a driven person to have humanity rise back up even if it means apes get stupid again or even wiped out. I personally think that would be a lot more interesting to see than her just joining the apes cause they're the "good guys".

-Jason Chandler: Definitely, though I personally do think that Kong is rather smart. Maybe not on the same level as a human, but definitely more so that the average ape.

-Austin: Yeah, this is going to be a disaster.

-I'm not going to spoil what I have planned but Six and Dot are definitely going to cause changes with their presence. But things are still not exactly going to go smoothly. Especially with some rather justified trauma on both sides.

-Guest: I'm well aware of that and the message of the movie. I'm just saying that I still at the end of the day root for my own species.

-Guest: Honestly, I'm going to have to disagree with you on that. The Colonel acknowledges in War that they did this to themselves as he so put it "We tried to defy nature, bend it to our will. Nature has been punishing us for our arrogance ever since." So, I'm inclined to believe that he too would have opposed the experiments that led to the apes evolution along with Mae.

-Dude, I'm already well aware of that. I'm just tired of how humans are portrayed as monsters in almost every media like this, it gets rather tiresome after a while. I'm sorry but that is just who I am, we could be portrayed in the most despicable, heinous, and monstrous way possible and I'll still root for the home team. I can't help it.

-SON jaeger: Yeah, that would be awesome.

-Morgriff: While Six and Dot do consider the possibility about the Covenant being in their new reality, as of right now they're more focused on helping them get out of their current predicament as they're more worried about the virus and the current survival of the human race than a possible threat. They do plan on helping them advance once civilization recovers.

Now, onto the story!

Chapter 5

"They're animals!" = Normal speech

'There may be more inside.' = Thoughts

"The Spartan's here!" = Hand signals

"/ Target's down. I say again, target is down. /" = Radio

(Location: San Francisco, California)

The two vehicles followed the M12 FAV as it led the convoy across the worn down Golden Gate bridge and into the Muir woods with Dot highlighting the road that will take them to the dam. Breaking off from the road when they reached the woods and drove through the dirt trail that led to their objective.

Six and Dot had worked the whole day yesterday to see if they could create an alternative to the dam but unfortunately, it appears that there were still too many risks involve for it to be viable. While the problem could be fixed, they didn't have enough of the necessary tools on hand and Dot had calculated it would take longer than there two week time frame. He had gotten in touch with General Andrews and requested technicians and personnel to aid them in this endeavor, however they were declined as they didn't have the men to spare as Lewis-McChord was struggling enough as it was just trying to keep things together up north.

As such, the dam was now the only real chance the survivors of San Francisco had.

Dreyfus had taken the news stoically, but Lex could tell he was sadden by the news even with his rather poor social skills, even more so by the news that wouldn't be getting any help up north. The Spartan-III swore he wouldn't let them down before he departed earlier, these people had already been through enough, and he was not going to let them lose what little they had left.

Suddenly, his H.U.D flickered for a brief second, an occurrence that has occurred more often over the years. However, he had a feeling that for this case it was due to his closest friend.

"Dot?" He asked his A.I companion.

"Sorry, boss." She apologized. "Just performing some light maintenance work and calibrations on your armor's software." She appeared beside him in the Warthog's passenger seat in her usual attire.

"And how's it going?"

"Well... I'm doing the best I can. But without the help of the usual maintenance crews and software updates, there's only so much I can do. Your cloaking's still only going to last a few seconds at best and your motion tracker's still a bit finicky. Can't rely on it to give you accurate positional updates."

As much as advanced and powerful that MJONIR armor was, it was still at the end of a day a piece of equipment, albeit a very expensive one. Which meant like any piece of gear, it needed regular maintenance to keep running. It's why there were entire crews of engineers, software technicians, and maintenance personnel dedicated solely to maintaining power armor suits.

Even with the onboard suit station on the Prowler, the years have not been kind to his power armor. Especially since they had to cannibalize some parts like his built in shield generator to perform some repairs back on board the Prowler. Still, as Chief Mendez once taught him, "The man makes the weapon, not the other way around." When push comes to shove, he will make due like the Marines.

"I know you'll do the best you can, Dot." Lex reassured with Dot giving him another one of her smiles meant only for him.

"Oh! By the way, I got another look" Her hologram disappeared before appearing again. This time she was dressed in a crop top along with jeans instead of her Naval dress uniform. She gave him another smile before twirling and putting her hands on her hips. "So...what do you think?"

Lex chuckled. "You're still trying to figure out a look, Dot?"

"Hey! It's hard, okay." The AI replied as she pouted. Over the last few years, she had gone through various design choices for her avatar such as an ODST, standard UNSC Air Force pilot fatigue, and even a medieval knight outfit. Always going back to her default look after trying it out for a couple of days. Though, she occasionally went back to her other designs every now and then.

"Dot, just go with whatever you want, okay? You know you don't have to ask me how I think."

"I know. But, I do." She said as she briefly looked away before turning her gaze back to him.

"Look, we're almost there. I can give you my thoughts later." Dot agreed as her hologram vanished from view.

A few minutes later, he radio to everyone that they were approaching their destination before parking the Warthog on the side of the road that was right next to a nearby trail.

"We're here?" Ellie asked as she grabbed her background and slung it over her shoulders.

"No, we're still a few hundred meters out." Lex answered as he grabbed his M4A1 SOPMOD Block II and grabbed a mag from his armor's webbing. "The vehicles are two big to fit through the trail here so we're going to have to hike it from here on out." He informed as he slid the magazine in the rifle and thumbed the bolt release.

"Alright people, take only what you need and what you can carry. We'll come back later for the rest of the gear." Lex instructed as he grabbed an M203 underbarrel grenade launcher from the back of the truck and mounted it underneath his round. Loading an 40mm HEDP grenade round to finish off.

"Really think we'll need that?" Foster asked as he closed the back doors of the van he was driving.

"Just in case." Was all Lex said as he began leading the group through the forest.

After a few minutes of trekking through the woods, they finally came across a clearing that had their dam in plain view.

"Well, it looks mostly intact, so that's good." Malcolm commented absentmindedly.

"Let's not start popping the champagne yet, fellas." Dot chimed in. "We still got to take a look inside."

"Already, let's start looking for a way in."

"I'll head this way. See, if I can find another entrance." Carter said, already walking by the time he finished his sentence.

As everyone began scattering to find a way inside, Dot noticed that Six's heartbeat began elevating and he began looking more closely at elevated positions where potential snipers and observers could lay. His grip on his rifle tightened as he flicked the selector switch from safe to semi-automatic and pulled the charging handle back, releasing it when he saw the familiar shine of a bullet.

"Something wrong, Lex?" Dot asked in concern.

"Just...getting a bad feeling is all." He answered. "Something tells me we're not alone here.

Throughout his entire career as a Spartan, Six had always listened to his gut and instincts whenever he was out in the field which saved his life on several separate occasions like the time when he dealt with those Elite zealots with Jorge back at Visegrad relay. An Elite had hidden himself behind a pillar and attempted to cut him in half when he moved by, only his instincts had saved him as he dodged with with a millisecond to spare before his head would have been rolling on the floor. Or back during the battle of New Alexandria, where he was moving down an empty street before his gut flared up and he ducked before a Jackal sniper made a new hole in his HAZOP helmet.

Still, though he didn't have a clue on what was out here that would cause his danger senses to start ringing. As far as he could tell, there wasn't anything out this far from San Francisco except for maybe a few grizzly bears.

"Boss, I'm not picking up anything on sensors and I'm not seeing anything on thermal either. As much as I trust you, I think the most dangerous thing we'll find out here is maybe some-"

Before she could finish her sentence, the familiar sound of a gunshot boomed through the forest. Prompting the group to instantly turn in the direction it came from with Six turning first with his weapon raised with everyone else reacting a few seconds later.

With the gunshot, Six immediately leap into action as he went into full combat mode. "Fall in, on me! Let's move!"

He immediately sprinted in the direction Carter went, not even looking once behind him to see if the others were following. A few seconds later, Six found Carter with his Smith & Wesson Model 629 drawn and pointed at an ape that was hiding behind a tree while screeching with another lying on its back with a gunshot wound in the chest. The former water department employee was yelling for help as he ordered the monkey to stay back.

"Give me a sitrep." Lex demanded as he stood next to Carter with his M4A1 raised at the monkey.

"What do you think happened!?" Carter yelled as the two could hear the rest of the group coming in behind them. "I shot him. I shot him."

"What the hell's an ape doing here?" Kemp asked to now one in particular.

"They might be some of the apes that escaped a few years ago." Dot guessed as she recalled the ape group that escaped into the woods at the start of the simian flu outbreak.

Suddenly, she began picking up movement from the left from the top of the hill.

A lot of movement.

"Lex, movement left side!" Dot shouted as the humans heard large amounts of movement coming from the nearby hill. As more and more chimps,, bonobos, orangutans, and gorillas came swinging into view both on the ground and in the trees.

"Get behind me!" Six ordered as everyone began taking behind their resident super-soldier. All of whom now had their weapons raised and pointed at the approaching simian crowd. The humans fear rising as they saw that many of the apes were carrying huge wooden spears.

As they surrounding the humans, one of the chimps climbed on top of a nearby rock and raised his arms, with Malcolm and Six assuming that he was the pack leader. He hooted to a few nearby apes before turning his attention to another monkey that had his arms wrapped around the chimp that got shot by Carter and was hooting in a panicked and worried tone. What got Malcolm and Six's attention was the movement of his hand which calmed the panicking ape down. It looked very much like American sign language, which only served to confuse them.

Just how did an ape know ASL?

"We don't mean any harm!" Malcom hollered out as he kept his Ruger M77 raised, with the leader's attention now turned on him

"They're apes, man." Carter whispered. "You really think they understand what you're saying?"

"They look like just apes to you?" He said back as he kept his eyes on what he assumed to be the leader of this pack.

After several tense seconds later, he instructed his group to do something that shocked every single one of them.

"Put your guns down." Malcolm instructed as he lowered his bolt action rifle.

"You can't be serious." Foster said as he kept his M4A1 raised.

"Do it." He ordered in which Kemp and Fostered slowly complied. However, there was on person who didn't and kept his weapon pointed at the ape standing before them.

"Lex, drop it. Now." Malcolm hissed as he quickly gave a side glance at the armored behemoth beside him.

"Not a chance, Malcolm." Six retorted as he determined where best to fire the 40mm round in the 203 to cause maximum damage to the pack as he kept his gaze focused on the leader.

What happened next was something none of them were expecting nor were they prepared for.

"GO!"

The chimp perched on top of the rock bellowed with such intensity that it echoed throughout the forest with all the humans completely and utterly stunned as a few of them began muttering under their breaths, including Six. Would in a very brief moment, had a flashback back in the bunker at Jericho VII where he had heard the Brute Chieftain barking orders at his subordinates as they raided their place of refuge.

"D-Dot? Y-you seeing-""

"Y-Yeah, boss. I see it too."

The ape leader then jumped down to stand before them, prompting them all to begin stepping back.

"O-Okay." Malcom raised his hands as he struggled to keep his composure. "W-We're going."

"GO!"

"GO!"

More and more apes began shouting as grunting and screaming filled the woods.

"Go! Move!" Lex ordered as he remained facing the horde. Not seeing that Alex dropped his sketchbook with Malcom dragging him by his arm despite his protests with everyone running as fast as they could.

As Lex waited for them to evacuate, he stared as he continued to raise his weapon at him, with the aforementioned chimp as the two of them locked eyes (or visor in Lex's case). What Six saw scared him as he did not see the eyes of a wild and primitive animal, the the cunning and analytical ones of an intelligent being. He could tell that the chimp was both confused and curious when it gazed upon him, but also weary as he himself would when faced with an unknown and potential hostile.

And yet despite all that, all he could think about when he looked at the chimp and the rest of the pack were Brutes. A fact that both fear and a boiling rage to begin filling up inside him.

Before he could think more on it though, his AI friend broke him out of his musings.

"They're clear! Move!" Dot notified him as he quickly turned around and ran back to the vehicles. Leaving the apes behind in the dust and dirt trail he kicked up behind him.

'This is not good.' Was all Six could think as he made his way back up the trail.

That's it for now. Hope you all enjoyed this chapter and that you enjoyed first contact between our resident super soldier and ape leader. So, I am considering making a fic where instead of Six and Dot in the current time period, it takes place in the Kingdom time frame. Would you guys be interested in seeing it?

See you all next time, guys. And remember... stay frosty, gents.
