Katie and Oliver

"Are you serious?" Alicia peered over Katie's shoulder. "You can't break up with him in a letter. We're not bloody first years."

Katie jumped at the sudden attention and then, with a heavy sigh, threw her quill to the side and scrunched up the piece of parchment. She was clearly distressed. If Alicia didn't felt so sorry for the younger girl, she might have laughed. Instead, Alicia only raised her eyebrows in question. When Katie didn't immediately respond, Alicia cleared her throat and shot her with an expectant look.

"Well, I can't break up with him in person!" Katie wailed suddenly. "I never see him!"

Alicia couldn't help but smile at such dramatics. She propped herself up on the desk, ignoring Katie's quiet protests. She waited a moment for Katie to fall silent.

"I didn't even know you wanted to break up with Oliver," Alicia said softly. "What happened?"

"What happened?" Katie repeated. She looked up at Alicia with narrowed eyes. "He left."

"He graduated."

Katie shrugged. "Either way, he's not here anymore. We don't see each other. He doesn't come to Hogsmeade trips. He's too busy to see me during the holidays. He doesn't even write! I thought we were going long distance, not no contact."

"Oh..." Alicia trailed off, all of a sudden feeling bad for having been so amused earlier. "I didn't know. I'm so sorry."

"It's fine." Katie didn't sound fine. "Just help me write this blasted letter, will you?"

Alicia hesitated.

"Please," Katie said, pleading. "I've tried to get him to see me in person, I swear. But he keeps making up all these excuses."

All of a sudden, Alicia wondered if that was by design. Perhaps Oliver knew what was coming and was trying desperately to put it off. Then again, Alicia didn't remember Oliver being all the perceptive. Maybe he was just too focused on his Quidditch to realise. Alicia jumped off the desk and summoned a chair. Then, giving Katie a comforting pat on the shoulder, she placed a fresh piece of parchment in front of them.

"All right. Let's do this."
