No-One But You (The Star Child's Eclipse)
Chapter 6: Sofia (Part 6)
…
Before we dive into the realm of knowing what's hiding in the Dark, let's fast-forward a bit and focus on something a little more fun, and fluffy.
…
Two characters in this story were in "fluffy" moods, if you recall, and it had something to do with going out on a date.
Coincidently, Steve Rogers and Wade Wilson were paralleling one another, because they both asked their significant others to plan something "days ago."
Remember?
…
Well, Tony Stark and Ezekiel Stane were "paralleling" one another as well, and they both were stalling.
They weren't stalling because they didn't want to spend time with their "fluffy" lovers… no.
They were only stalling because their busy minds absolutely refused to stop and take a break.
Ezekiel was getting a number of things ready, lining up experts, and building a series of companies to root his way out of his previous line of work.
Tony, on the other hand, was really digging into what happened with Ezekiel's technology back in Battleworld, and he was learning a thing or two about Victor Von Doom, thanks to the adorable Sofia Strange.
So, long story short, they were busy…
…
It took a century for Steve to pull Tony away from his Doom snooping, and that notion carried all the way to Wade Wilson on the complete opposite side of New York.
…
The funny thing about all of this had to do with Tony and Ezekiel's expensive taste.
They were unaware how much they were actually "paralleling" one another out there in the wild, and they happened to book similar reservations.
Now, nerd alert, but someone existing within the same exact state of their "parallel extension" means that they technically orbited that person or coexisted in a mirrored pattern that was actually reversed.
So, if Tony Stark mentally planned to book an exclusive table on the west side of an elite restaurant called 432 Park Avenue, then that means Ezekiel Stane mentally planned to book an exclusive table on the east.
Are you following along? Ezekiel is technically mirroring the act, but in the opposite direction.
ANYWAY, the restaurant dominated the entire 12th floor of a building that stretches up 96 stories tall.
Wade Wilson had never actually been to 432 Park Avenue, and he was acting like a giddy school girl as he looked out at the skyline of New York.
Ezekiel didn't think much of it at first, because he was thinking more about the menu.
His focus changed a bit more after Wade's fluffy nerves settled. He made himself at home in his seat, and he tried not to touch everything in sight.
Ezekiel had gotten used to Wade's peculiar behavior, and he figured out a while ago that his date was a cocktail mix of mass anxiety and energy that wouldn't quit.
The "Jackal" was just the opposite. His demeanor was cool, or sometimes cold. It's all a manner of perspective.
…
"Did you… did you know I have, a daughter?"
…
Wade's voice kinda cracked a little. Shit got all quiet, and the mercenary just spoke out the first thought that crossed his mind.
They'd been in a "relationship" and Facebook official for, shoot, how long? When was their first butchered date? It was right before Battleworld, Wade remembered that detail.
The mercenary's brain also started going crazy, because he hadn't brought up the fact that he had a daughter to anyone.
Seeing Sofia Strange randomly at the house is what sparked the inner debate, and now Wade felt like saying something about it to his quiet coyote.
Ezekiel slowly glanced up from his menu after his charming date randomly spoke, and an unexpressive look remained on his face.
Wade's choice of words were, interesting, and Ezekiel wasn't sure how to respond.
…
"I've heard the rumors."
…
OKAY. Hearing rumors was a good start. Wade was super sweating the chat for some reason, partially because he considered himself to be a dead-beat dad in the first place.
There was a tragic story connected to HIS seven-year-old daughter, and it's a sad story that Wade did his best to avoid.
UHM, he closed his eyes for a time, loudly cleared his throat, and choked up something else to add to the subject.
…
"They're true, the rumors. She's seven, but… she doesn't know anything about me, and she lives with better people."
…
Better people was an understatement. Wade felt too guilty to dig into that portion of the terrible story any further, and Ezekiel slowly swallowed down the information he'd heard.
Wade had obviously been chewing on the idea of telling him for a long while…
…
Ezekiel could tell, and he wasn't really sure why…
…
I mean, the Jackal didn't necessarily mind knowing that information, but he wasn't sure why Wade was having such a hard time.
It felt like he was wrestling with something, or, perhaps there was something going on with what he revealed.
Wade had to clamp his eyes as shut as they could get after that. Cuz, well, he was telling Ezekiel that information in hopes that he'd ask him some… questions?
Did he have any questions about it? Like, at all?
…
"I'm not very sentimental, Wade."
…
"Yeah? Hah…I've noticed.."
…
"But, I'm working on it…"
…
"I've noticed that too.."
…
Fuck. Some random dude walked up with a big goofy smile, and Wade's nerves just about shot through the table. Were they ready to order?
Uhh, no, not really. Wade completely forgot to even look at the menu. He felt like a freak as soon as the dude spoke, so he buried his face in the menu that was in front of him.
He also wasn't wearing his Deadpool mask, so his body felt all naked and stuff. Ezekiel did his best not to smile, and he turned all of his attention toward the polite waiter.
He ordered something for the both of them to avoid any additional distractions, and Ezekiel said he'd gladly pre-pay to avoid the social interaction.
Wade glanced up awkwardly when Ezekiel asked the man to only return with the food and the receipt.
The waiter seemed kinda offended by what the clever Jackal said, but do you think Ezekiel cared? Run the card, bring the food with the receipt, then scram. That's just basic shit…
He couldn't be bothered with waiters anyway, and you can credit that arrogant personality trait back to his super dead father.
…
"So… is Vanessa Carlysle the mother of your child?"
…
The coast was clear, so an actual question emerged from the mouth of Wade's precious "Shiny," and the mercenary gasped as loud as a dying cow.
His obnoxious gasp made Ezekiel's calm demeanor crack, and he gently laughed against his left hand. How hilarious.
Vanessa? Get the fuck out. There was no way in any hell. Wade was still super bitter about how things went down between him and the lady in question, and he began to wonder why Ezekiel decided to randomly namedrop her. Of all people?
…
"HELL NO, and why oh why do you think it'd be her?"
…
Wade saw Ezekiel's sexy little grin. There was something about Vanessa that seemed to rub the baby Jackal wrong.
Wade could sense it. No. He could almost taste it. He watched that quiet coyote as he moved a bit in his seat.
Thinking about Vanessa Carlysle brought Ezekiel back to a one-sided conversation the two of them were having at Battleworld, right before Victor Von Doom obliterated Ezekiel's broken soul.
…
"She was trying to speak to me while you were facing Doom. I could tell she still cared for you, and that's why I assumed she's the mother of your child."
…
That's all. Ezekiel actually shrugged up his right shoulder after he spoke. His impression of Vanessa was pretty null and void.
Ezekiel actually couldn't care any less about her, her pointless small-talk, or her lingering affection for Wade.
The fuck? Vanessa actually tried to speak to Ezekiel? How random. Wade figured it had something to do with his Facebook update going from "It's complicated" to "In a relationship."
That had to be it, SO Wade took in Ezekiel's passive attitude about the subject and he mimicked the notion. He shrugged up his shoulders too, cuz Vanessa was, whatever.
…
"No, Ellie's mother passed away. OH, yeah her full name is Eleanor, my daughter, but she goes by Ellie."
…
Oh? Ezekiel took in the information as it was delivered, and he started studying the way Wade was dressed.
He looked very handsome, cordial, and charming. The thought of him having a daughter was definitely something to ponder as well, and staring at his clothes helped Ezekiel process the subject.
He barely processed any of it, actually, because his mind began to wander around the realm of feeling jealous.
Feeling jealous in that moment was unexplainable and pretty random, but the word silently crept across Ezekiel's mind.
He wasn't sure what or who he was jealous of, but he figured it had something to do with his unspoken obsession with Wade…
