Twilight Meets The Dawn Chapter 4

After the incident with the grizzly bear its body along with the elks were loaded onto crude sleds the apes had crafted from boughs from the trees to carry the spoils of the hunt home.

Now the hunting party traveled the long road home back to their refuge. Some rode on horses while others went on foot. At the head of the procession were Caesar and Blue Eyes on either side of him on their mounts. Riding alongside them were some members of Caesar's inner circle and closest confidants, which were Rocket, his son Ash, and Koba.

The troop marched passed the gas station. The tribe often had to pass it whenever they came this way.

As they did so Caesar watched Blue Eyes examine the gashes on his chest. Blue Eyes will be scarred for life now. Despite his stubbornness, those would need to be tended to. His mother Cornelia would probably see to that.

The remainder of the journey back to the tribe for the hunting party went without incident.

But just because there wasn't any more trouble blocking their way doesn't mean there isn't something bothering Cesar.

Specifically, their unexpected and uninvited guests.

Forehead creased in worry, Caesar glances back at the family of nine humans in the middle of the hunting party.

Koba, Grey, Stone, and a handful of others surround the humans on foot and on horses with spear tips directed at the intruders should they try anything funny.

From the start Koba had wanted to eliminate these strangers from the get-go, but Caesar had stayed his hand. Caesar knows from just that brief encounter and what this group did to that grizzly bear with their own hands that any of these humans could take them down in less than 10 seconds. Therefore making quick work out of all of them without too much of a sweat. Caesar refused to take such a risk without knowing any of the facts.

Caesar wouldn't tell any of them this, but morbid curiosity makes him want to see and learn more.

Caesar would convene with the entire Council and then decide what to do.

The Cullen's are doing their best not to provoke any unnecessary reactions from the apes from any sudden movements. Instinctively, Renesmee is kept in a protected position in the middle with Bella while the others are circled around them to act as a shield.

Edward and Carlisle are at the front.

The whole time they've been moving Edward has been keeping close tabs on the thoughts of the apes, specifically the alpha male.

Catching onto what Caesar is thinking, speaking in a whispered tone only Carlisle and the other members of their family can hear, Edward said "Caesar is deciding on what to do with us. He's divided. He's considering killing us to protect his people and the other is letting us live so he can learn more about us and where we came from."

Carlisle said "I'm not surprised. With all these apes have accomplished on their own, Caesar has to consider things from all angles. We must not do anything rash so they don't assume we're an enemy."

"We're going to have to explain to them what we are," reasoned Edward. "They saw what we did to the grizzly bear. They're not stupid. Even with Jaspers's gift in play to keep all these raging emotions in check I don't know if it'll be enough to prevent a fight. I'm catching a lot of hostile thoughts here."

Wisely, Carlisle said "Which is why I don't want to give them any more reason to fear us than they're probably already feeling. The more docile and nonconfrontational we appear the less fear there's going to be when we reveal what we actually are."

"I hope you're right on this, Carlisle, for their sake," sighed Edward.

When the hunting party returned to the village they were met with smiling and excited faces.

They all stopped in the center of the village near the fire pit.

From the spot Maurice was standing next to a stone wall, he hooted and grumbled at the children that surrounded him for their daily lesson on their history, letters, and words. The orangutan gestured for them to focus their attention on him, but it was hard to do so when many couldn't turn their eyes away from the hunters. They were far more interesting than all of this boring stuff. It may not be as stimulating, but to read, write, and the ape's three most important laws.

The laws were Ape Not Kill Ape, Knowledge Is Power, and Ape Together Strong.

It's Maurice's job to make sure these lessons travel to future generations for life. In this, he would not fail.

Everything seemed to appear happy and festive for tonight's meals with all the meat added to their food supply until the Cullen's are spotted.

All at once the atmosphere made a tremendous switch to being fearful and highly perturbed.

Anxious mothers snatched their young children and hustled them inside their huts for protection while males that had stayed behind to guard their village took up their spears, prepared to defend their home.

A council meeting is held around the law stone to decide on the Cullen's fate.

The Cullen's are kept under guard by the Gorilla Guard in a secure spot away from the Council.

Edward keeps a close monologue with what he can hear with his mind reading and see with his eyes from their sign language. He comments to the family that the one-eyed bonobo called Koba is the most resistant to them because of the abuse at human hands he endured like many of the tribe. It's a sentiment shared by many as those who recall human cruelty were afraid. Not wanting to endure that darkness again nor for it to spread over their offspring.

From the way the meeting is going it is heading in that direction with those wanting to wait and see what becomes of this being in the minority.

Renesmee is the one who takes matters into her own hands, not liking to see how nervous all this is making her loved ones. She slips through the gorillas guarding them and steps with a purpose toward Caesar.

"Renesmee, no," gasped Esme.

Alice covers her lips with both hands and Rosalie clutches her blonde tresses in distress.

The reaction is immediate.

Startled hoots and chitters break out as Renesmee makes her move toward their beloved leader. Some warriors move to intercept her and Renesmee's effortless and quick evasive maneuvers to avoid containment alarm these rattled and uptight apes even more.

But Caesar is unafraid.

Caesar holds up a raised fist, telling everyone to settle and not do anything reckless.

The Cullen's could wish the same for Renesmee.

Caesar lets Renesmee come near, not sensing any danger.

Renesmee lowers herself to her knees before Caesar and reaches out a hand toward his face.

Aggressive snarls break out from Blue Eyes, Koba, and Rocket, but Caesar holds out a hand to keep them back.

Caesar and Renesmee retain eye contact with each other as she uses her gift to show that she and her family mean no harm.

"What's she showing him," said Bella.

"Everything," said Edward. "From the moment she was born to the present."

Edward speaks the truth. Renesmee shows Caesar everything from when she was born, their family, hunting habits, and the hard trials they had to go through including the Volturi and losing friends and extended family along the way.

The entire time this is going on unsettlement hoots, grunts, and murmurs spread through the watching crowd as they witness in confusion to what is occurring.

Finally, Renesmee retracts her hand from Caesar's cheek.

Caesar blinks, shutting his eyes and releasing a shaky exhale.

Without taking her eyes off Caesar, Renesmee slowly retraces her steps until she's within reach of the others.

Bella, Alice, Rosalie, and Esme, encircle her in their arms for security.

Cornelia places a hand on her mate's arms, hooting worriedly to get his attention.

Opening his eyes, the expression on Caesar's face is not fear, hatred, contempt or disgruntlement.

No, there is cautionary acceptance as he regards the rest of the Cullen's.

Shifting so that he's directly within Caesar's line of sight, Blue Eyes signed "Father, what is it? What did that human just do?"

"Something none of us ever thought possible," signed Caesar, marveling at what he'd just undergone. "Maurice, Luca, Rocket, Koba, Grey, Stone, Blue Eyes, Ash, I need you all to step forward and allow this child to touch you as she did me."

"What," signed Koba, angrily.

"Caesar, what's going on," said Rocket.

"I need you to trust me," signed Caesar, waving them all forward.

Renesmee eagerly approached with Caesar's permission and Edwards's word that it was okay.

One by one each member of the Council obeyed their leader, except Koba. No matter how much Caesar insisted, Koba would not permit Renesmee to touch him and prevented Grey and Stone from doing the same.

As soon as the process was complete, every single one of the Council members that were on the receiving end of Renesmee's power now shared their leaders bemused and dumbfounded astoundment.

Sharing a decisive look with his Council and redirecting onto Carlisle, talking from dominant male to dominant male, Caesar said "We have much more to talk about."

And talk they did.

Authors Note:

What do you think the reactions of the apes should be when the Cullens reveal they are vampires to the rest of the tribe?

I hope you all like this one! I certainly did while writing it for your vast enjoyment! ;D

For those of you just starting out with my stuff there are other works on my profile that may catch your interest. I highly recommend you take a look as soon as the opportunity presents itself to you. Who knows, you may be pleasantly surprised by what you discover.

Stay safe everyone. Especially with all of these crazy natural disasters occurring a lot lately due to global warming and climate change everywhere for sure. I swear it's like they're getting worse and worse all the time and it's like officials are simply just ignoring it or pretending it doesn't exist entirely just to go on with their daily lives. Especially those in multi-million dollar companies that rely on certain elements of our planet that we rely on to naturally keep us safe instead of adapting and finding new safer ways to keep in business. There are so many options out there where they can adapt, but they just refuse to see it because all they care about is money. Climate change is altering so much faster than anyone can really keep track of.

So, in light of all this, it is important to live life to the fullest as much as anyone can.

I know I am. ;) See you guys next time.
