Dear Harry

I feel the same as your friends Dean and Seamus, as much as I miss Mom and want to see her more often, I find it constricting being at home for any length of time. Mom doesn't expect me to ask permission or care where I'm going or where I've been most of the time unless she's forgotten that I'm not still in elementary school, and she's never set me a curfew but I hate having to think twice about what I leave in my bedroom and what I need to take with me each time to keep safe in case Mom becomes paranoid about the strange books and clothes in my room. I've become accustomed to having a room where nobody touches my stuff except Ethan who occasionally grabs a book to help him with an essay, but I know he takes good care of them and never removes them from the room without my permission and would stop if it worried me.

I don't think that the Finnegans not attending Hogwarts would be blamed on anything to do with you. Seamus would have told his parents about the students being petrified and Ginny Weasley being kidnapped, he shares a dorm with Ron, and if Ginny sits near you guys as often as you sad she does Seamus probably knows her fairly well too, after all. It isn't just you who was in danger, the entire school was, and Seamus wasn't in any more danger than everyone else because he was sharing a dorm with you. I also think that it was likely whoever's manipulating the professors isn't just doing it because you're there and they don't want you to have support from them. I don't know what their end goal is but it seems that it would have to be bigger than that somehow.

It sounds like Hogwarts are well aware that they're not the best option for educating students from nonmagical families or who live in the nonmagical world. Given the prejudice against them and the fact that the professors don't seem to care enough to step in and stop the bullying of those students it's a wonder that Hogwarts even wants them. Why not let them go to Scoil Draiocht and leave Hogwarts to the students who want to spend their entire lives living in the magical enclaves? My guess is that it's probably financial, there aren't enough pure blood witches and wizards willing to pay the Hogwarts fees to make the school viable without the students like you, Dean and Hermione. As for Scoil Draiocht not wanting to set themselves up in direct competition with Hogwarts for those students, it could be just avoiding a fight, or they really don't need the extra numbers over the summer. I would expect they have enough difficulty finding staff that want to live in the time dilation with all of you all summer for the number of students they have now.

The stuff she said about glamours was a little concerning, we've been glad that Polyjuice is so difficult and expensive to get but if you could achieve similar results form a glamour then you'd never know who was hanging around watching you. I know you want to use them to look older so you can travel without attracting attention but if changing your hair and eye colour or the shape of your face doesn't take much effort you could be a different person every day. Is there an advantage in using Polyjuice instead of a glamour charm?

My internet chats with my study groups seem to be dying off a little as the summer goes on. It's natural I suppose, as they get busier with their jobs and internships, and build new social connections or reconnect with old ones, to have less time to chat to college friends. Hopefully that's all it is and things will get back to normal when they arrive back here in September. I guess I'm also spoilt by the fact you spend most of your week in time dilation and contact me much more frequently from my point of view than yours.

Mom is doing well, Daniel has broken his ankle but Mom hasn't been concerned by the change in schedule when the others have stepped up to cover the time he'd normally spend with Mom, and Aunt Ethel has even managed to get Mom to come with her to stay with Daniel for a couple of days to help look after him. It's more so Aunt Ethel can keep an eye on both of them until either Mom's friends or Daniel's friends can take one of them off her hands, but Mom is pleased to have been asked to go and help. I offered to come home for a couple of extra days this weekend but Aunt Ethel reassures me that Jan will be back on Monday and she can manage until Friday. I'm to go straight to Daniel's. I've not spent much time with Daniel and never even been to his house let alone stayed there. I don't know if Aunt Ethel has remembered that I can't drive and Mom doesn't do well on public transport most of the time. She'd be better off dropping Mom at the house when I get home, I hope she isn't intending me to try and look after both of them for the weekend.

The sun is white, it's the way our atmosphere refracts light that makes the sun yellow and the sky blue. Either, Batman must be lying about where his power is coming from, though I think that would've been revealed by now if he was, or perhaps the authors of his origin story were ignorant of the science and the yellow became an established fact in his origin story before someone who knew the science behind the yellow of the sun could correct it. The other explanation is that what would make the sun look red on our planet would be excessive smoke ash or extreme pollution in the atmosphere so if that were the reason the sun was red on Kryton, it could be the reason Batman would get less energy from the sun on his planet than he does on earth.

Your friend always

Spencer
