"You got a divorce?" Bella asked in surprise.
"Yes," Mina explained, "our marriage was slowly falling apart, so we decided to break it now for ours and our son's sake."
It's been a couple of months since she last saw Mina, or anyone from their makeshift band of vampire hunters really. But she couldn't help it now, she could feel the bloodlust slowly creeping up to her throat, plus she felt herself getting skittish from the cross close by now that she was the new Countess/Princess of Darkness, in other words a vampire.
'I can't believe that was the last thing I heard from Didyme before being forcefully awakened,' Bella thought bitterly.
But she decided to focus on Mina right now. Mina was looking so serious, more serious than when she was a school teacher. But Bella can't blame her, she knows what Mina had to go through, seeing this is the… Bella realized that after moving to Forks she was always dealing with vampires so much that her being Isabella Murray for the last fifteen years made her experience look like a far off wild dream. However Bella knows how much someone's world can change after one awful meeting.
"Bella?"
Bella jumped as Mina's voice called out her name. She was staring at her while holding her son, Quincey. The poor baby, apparently Mina, had gotten pregnant while taking care of an ill Jonathan before coming back to England for Lucy's funeral. Everyone only found out about Quincey was Jonathan's letters to them a month ago that Mina had given birth to their son two months after defeating Dracula. Then for five days the boy was fighting for his life, but now is thriving healthy.
'Wait,' Bella thought, 'if Mina was pregnant with Quincey during this whole ordeal then…'
"Yes Mina?" Bella asked softly. "Is that Quincey? May I hold him?"
Mina smiled as she handed her son over to Bella, carefully helping Bella cradle him. Mina suddenly paused as she turned her attention to her front door. There was someone knocking on it.
'Was she expecting someone?' Bella thought as Mina left the room.
Bella decided to focus her attention on the baby in her arms currently. He was small for a one month old baby, with a little tuft of brown hair, pale skin, and green eyes. He was babbling softly until his eyes locked onto Mina then his emerald color eyes turned into a ruby color.
Instead of panicking, Bella was calm and just smiled down at her little nephew. Letting him see her red eyes as well. Quincey started to babble excitedly at her, extending his little hands towards her. Bella giggled softly, allowing him to have her pointer finger to grab on.
"Oh you're such a strong child," Bella said softly, "don't worry Quincey, I'll be here for you now."
Suddenly there was a hand on her shoulder. As Bella looked up Mina was standing there with a smile on her face. Bella took a quick glance at Quincey's eyes.
Green eyes stared back at her. Smart baby. Bella smiled as she looked at Mina until she noticed Mina's other hand grasping at her scarf as she stared at a picture of her, Bella, and Lucy as little girls.
"I know Lucy would've loved him too," Bella said quietly. Mina sadly smiles at her before motioning for her son. After giving him back, and standing up, Mina stared at Bella quizzically.
"How are you feeling?" She asked, studying Bella's neck.
"What do you mean?" Bella asked, feeling uncomfortable with this sudden gaze.
Mina sighed as she explained, "I heard that you had gotten a job right after we got back to England and you haven't been able to visit till now, so I haven't been able to check up on you."
'Oh right,' Bella thought as they walked to the front door, 'my "job"…'
-Two months earlier-
Bella was fighting against a newborn vampire after getting back to England. Apparently someone has a vendetta against her and everyone who had to deal with Dracula. Now the newborn wasn't much of a challenge now, vampiric strength and the blue fire and all, it was the mad man giving her issues.
He has been throwing holy water, crosses, and whatever holy items he had on hand at her. Each burned against her skin upon the impact. She would snarl at him as she had to smell her burnt skin. But she couldn't knock him out with a deranged newborn trying to get past her.
'I have to kill this guy before he can try to find my sister and the others,' Bella thought, 'but I can't finish this job without being in pain.'
"I'll stop throwing these," the madman said gleefully gesturing to the holy water, "if you tell me where the Professor is. Or, should I bring your sister here?"
Bella's response was punching the newborn vampire into a wall, breaking parts of the wall and getting him stuck within, practically unconscious now, before spinning her attention and started to stalk over to the madman. The man began to pale as whatever he threw at her didn't get a reaction out of her. Now he was dealing with an angry red eye woman with the strength to snap him like a twig.
"Y-you stop right there! You hear me!" The mad man shouted in a fearful tone, he was shaking enough though he had the height and muscle against this small thin woman. He tried to stand tall as he demanded, "I'm warning you, if you don't tell me where Professor Arronax is I'll-!"
Bella stopped marching towards him as she stared at him. She asked, "Professor Arronax? Don't you mean Professor Van Helsing?"
"What?" The mad man asked, before nervously laughing as he continued, "Oh I see! You're just trying to cover up the fact that you know Arronax! Nice try~! But I know you're in cahoots with him, I have my information!"
Before Bella could even ask what this crazy man spewing an older man's voice spoke out.
"Oh do you now? Mind if I have a look at them?"
The madman looked behind him, allowing Bella to see a thin man with deathly pale skin, brushed back salt & pepper hair and mustache, and sea green eyes. He was wearing a dark green three piece shirt underneath a torn up black rope, muddy boots, and circle frame glasses.
Bella was confused until she heard the newborn starting to move. She spun around and ran back at the vampire. There was a commotion behind her but nothing was thrown at her.
'Guess that man got a hold on the crazy man,' Bella thought as she grabbed the newborn by his throat, 'but that means I have time for this!'
In fell swoop the newborn was torn into pieces before Bella took a nearby lantern and smashing it over the newborn's remains. She stepped back as the venom in the newborn ignited and made the remains into a fire.
Bella was so focused on getting rid of the vampire that the screaming behind caught her off guard. As she turned she was suddenly grabbed by the robe man and dragged her into an alleyway behind some boxes.
Due to the commotion the police were running to the sounds. Both unusual people stayed hidden as they watched the madman getting carted off.
"Sorry about dragging you miss," the older man responded, "and for not getting here sooner."
"It's fine," Bella said, "how did you know the man and did he say anything else?"
"Only that the Phantom will get what he wants," the man replied.
"Meaning he'll send more of them?" Bella asked with disdain. the man nodded as she continued, "Are you the Professor Arronax he was looking for?"
"Yes I am," Arronax responded, "and if we're working together from now on may I know your name?"
"Isabella Murray," Bella replied, "let's get to work on who this Phantom man is."
