For the next two days the new team laid low in Sawyer's home while Bella stayed in a room she had rented for herself. Bella was able to visit them since it was spread around that Sawyer and Bella were engaged.
Which is why she was having a conversation with Mina right at her apartment.
"Why didn't you tell me you were engaged?" Mina asked sternly. She was happy for her little sister, but upset that she wasn't informed about such an important thing in Bella's life.
"I was going too," Bella replied as she made tea, "when I came to visit you and Quincey."
"Oh…"
Bella flinched at the oh, knowing Mina remembered that she had talked about her own divorce. Bella keeps herself calm as she brings the tea over.
"And he accidentally blurted it out," Bella explained, "plus the ring was big too. So we both were rather surprised by the turn of events that it just slipped our minds."
Mina laughed at how sweet and funny Isabella's proposal went. She smiled at the thought that her sister's life was getting back to normal.
Then the clock hit ten thirty, making her sigh. Isabella looked at her confused.
"I need to get going," Mina responded, "work and all."
Bella smiled at Mina as she led her sister towards the door, waving her goodbye as Mina got into a carriage and rode off to the museum. Bella got ready to head over to her team. She started getting worried about Mina and whatever she and her new team has to do while a crazy man posing as a phantom with newborn vampires and test subjects trying to get them.
Bella shook her head as she laughed out, "I need to calm down. With my new team watching over them I'm sure she'll be fine."
-August 4-
"I don't think I'll be able to look at fireworks the same again."
"I agree…"
Bella looked over at Skinner and Ripper as they were practically spread out on a couch with the smell of smoke clung onto their clothes and hair. Both were completely bandaged up from the fight against the newborn vampires and craze invisible men and women. Arronax was bandaging himself up from cuts he got from his sword fight on a flaming rooftop; Bella was amazed he only got some cuts, from the looks of it not deep enough to need stitching, and not getting second or third degree burns.
With the thought about scars Bella turned her attention back to Sawyer to continue changing his bandages. He got hit by a silver bullet instead of letting Bella get hit, but other than that he was fine besides a few scratches and bruises.
"I can't believe you took a bullet for me," Bella muttered as she finished up, "I would have been alright."
Most of the bruises and cuts she got were healed thanks to her vampiric healing. Sawyer smiled at her as he held onto the bullet.
"Darling I couldn't standby and let you get hurt," Sawyer said, "besides this isn't the first time I got shot by a bullet."
Bella's eyes landed on the bullet hanging on the chain around Sawyer's neck. From the story she heard, and read in high school, he got it when he was fourteen years old in his leg while helping out his friend. The fact he still holds onto it, makes him proud, and now the silver one will be added onto the necklace as well.
Knowing that Sawyer would hold onto it made Bella feel flustered as she looked away. She noticed Sawyer's landlady, Mrs. Field, standing in the doorway with her hand raised. The older lady smiled after being noticed.
"Miss Murray," Mrs. Field announced as she turned to leave, "your sister and her associates are here."
Then Mrs. Field was gone.
'What?' Was all Bella could think as Mina burst through the doorway followed by Quatermain and three other men, all looked worse than Bella and her team.
"Isabella are you alright?" Mina asked worriedly as she pulled her sister into her arms protectively. The men's eyebrows rose, seeing how their leader was worried to a sister that none of them knew existed until today.
"I am alright," Bella replied looking at Mina before looking at Sawyer, "he made sure of it."
"Hello again Sawyer," Mina responded looking at his shoulder. He looked up at her with a smile.
"Hello Ms-"
"Tom?" Quatermain asked once he saw the man.
"Oh," Sawyer muttered, "hello Quatermain."
"Professor Arronax?"
"It's good to see you again Captain."
As Bella looked behind her Captain Nemo was staring at Arronax while Ripper and Skinner looked like deers in headlights as they were being stared down by, who she assumes, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Griffin.
Suddenly the room got tensed until Mrs. Field popped back into the room.
"Excuse me," Mrs. Field said ignoring the tense air, "but there's a carriage waiting outside for you Ms Murray and these gentlemen. Driver said your boss wanted to speak to you."
Mina stood up and motioned the group of men to leave. Each left with a suspicious look on their faces. Mina was the last to leave when she turned to look back at her sister.
"Bella," Mina said scarily calm, "there is something I would like to talk to you about. I'll see you tomorrow."
With that she turned and left, the five sat there feeling absolute dread.
"I will be honest with you all about what my sister and I went through," Bella explained as her eyes remained glued on the door, "if you all can do the same."
